[Q] Ressurection Remix email problem - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I would have posted in the ROM's thread, but the forums won't allow me...
I've installed RR on my GT-i9100 and it works lovely apart from this one issue:
I use 3 email adresses. 2 of them are gmail and one is my university one, manually set up through exchange. My uni email updates as soon as I receive an email (as it's notification is set to push), yet my gmail accounts never update, unless I manually refresh their corresponding folders (despite the fact that they are set to check for any new emails every 5 minutes). I have tried disabling the gmail app and the google+ app, as I thought they were interfering, but that hasn't solved anything. Anyone have any ideas what the issue might be?

E-mails not updating at set internvals

This has been an on-going issue of mine and unfortunately no one in the Rhodium forums has been able to figure out the cause. It seems that either a. my phone won't check for e-mails at the correct times when it's asleep, or b. data turns itself off and the phone is unable to check for new e-mails.
What this boils down to:
- I have my phone set up with the correct settings for my e-mails client. It will update when the phone is actively being used.
- It is set up to check for new e-mails every 10 minutes. However, due to this issue, I have manually chosen send/receive and received an influx of 4 hours worth of e-mails.
- I have tried multiple ROMs, Radios, and settings but the issue still remains. I even had this issue with the stock ROM.
- I tried to use Seven for push e-mails and this seemed to work better as I was receiving e-mails more frequently (and reliably) however, it would randomly disconnect from the Seven server for multiple hours (I could reconnect it by turning off my data connection and restarting it). I got in contact with a Seven tech, but they either started ignoring me, or are taking an extended vacation.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Current ROM/Radio is in my signature. I am using SBCGlobal for my e-mail client.
Thanks in advance!
Well, I think it is obvious that is not ROM related problem. Therefore possible reason left which is the 1) device hardware or 2) something wrong with your Email server
My suggestion would be:
1) Increase your pull time from 10minutes to 30min and test with your current email server.
2) Create a Gmail email account if you don’t have already one and test the same pulling intervals for that Gmail account ( for pop3 Gmail very is reliable)

Thanks, I can increase the intervals relatively easy, but I don't receive e-mails frequently enough with any other accounts other than my sbcglobal. I guess I can try subscribing to a bunch of threads here and change my e-mail to a google account.

Have you ever use flexmail?? http://www.webis.net/products_info.php?p_id=mail
I was using that software before having exchange account

I will try that out and see how it performs.
I just thought I'd update by stating that changing the sync time to 30 minutes didn't resolve anything. I also tried that app that was suggested but had some issues with it too.

I like your feedback, thanks! Anyhow what is the problem with the flexmail? does it give you any error message? I read in few forums that SBCGlobal(which seams actually a Yahoo mail) given few people problems with receiving mails. Would it make sense to forward SBCGlobal incoming mails to a Gmail account and you would pull the emails from the gmail account or even use the pushmail functionality (activesync)?? The disadvantage on this is that if you reply to a email then you reply with your Gmail Account address
I'll try forwarding my sbcglobal (yahoo) e-mails to my gmail account and see if that helps at all. Will let you know!
So I set up my sbcglobal account to forward to my gmail account. So far so good I was even able to set up google sync and get it pushing emails directly to my phone with active sync. Now to just spend the time of moving all my accounts over to my gmail account =/
well done!! enjoy your push mails
Great!! Good advice and was going to be my suggestion! Congrats

Sporadically loosing Mail notifications

Hey guys!
I'm loving my One S (except some few bugs, but hopefully they'll be fixed).
One of the bugs is kind of wierd...Sometimes, my Mail-notification just won't work.
That is, I receive a mail but no sound or icon is popping up.
Anyone seen this?
I'm using HTC Mail-client as I think it's way better than the Gmail-app
Have you set up everything in the mail notifications settings (for every account seperately)? I have 3 accounts and often forget something
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Yes, all the notifications are set correctly.
It's working, but sometimes it won't vibrate, notify or play the sound :S
As I'm using the mail for my work exchange server, I wonder - how can you tell the mail arrived and no notification is seen.
As you enter the mail application it will update itself. Might be that your mail application didn't check mail until you entered it and then you also saw the new mail?
Well, There's like 2-3 seconds before the app updates and there I can see that there is a new email and sometimes when it updates and there is even newer mail, those will be downloaded after update is complete.
I see...
So I can't help
I discovered a new problem, so I gathered them in this thread
Can one of the MODs please close this thread?

[Q] why is my email not syncing all the time?

Hi all.
Hopefully someone can help.
Basic I've bought this tablet and it was already rooted.
I'm not sure what rom I am on but a screen picture is attached.
I am using the exchange e-mail for my gmail.
However it seems to work fine for the first few days and then it stop syncing and e-mail start disappearing out of my inbox.
I've tried deleting the account and installing them again but the same thing happens.

When it stops syncing - does it work when you sync/refresh manually from app? Do you have any battery saving apps installed? Tthose can disable network connectivity while screen is off and stop apps from background sync.
The other thought is that I wouldn't trust device used and rooted by someone else - I'd do factory reset and re-flashed ROM. Who knows what background apps are installed there?
In your email settings, try m.google.com as your incoming server.
Gmail doesn't use push when using sammy's email app. This should fix/help with auto-syncing.
Also, you have your sync setting set to peak/off peak. Maybe an issue? See if a more frequent schedule is available.
Hi guys.
Thanks for the responses.
I would flash the Rom again but I have no idea which it is.
My email settings are m.Google.com it works fine for first few days then just stops.
I then have to go into gmail to pick my missing mails.
Weird and very annoying ......

Nexus 5 / Android 4.4 Stock Email App - Sync issues

Hi all,
Moved from a Galaxy S3 to a Nexus 5.
Everything is working great, with the exception of the stock Email app syncing with an Exchange account.
I connect to a zimbra server using the same settings as on he gs3. I connect fine and get all my email loaded. The issue is that syncing of the inbox doesn't work. Sub folders seem to but the main inbox will not even manually sync.
I have cleared the caches, removed and re-added the mail account and I still have the same issue. I can send emails fine. I have also factory reset the phone and still have same prob. Syncing is ticked in every possible setting and my gmail app push syncs fine.
Any ideas? I am at a loss and need my company email as I work on call in the evening and weekends.
Thanks!!
I have the same problem with my N5. My exchange email account would start working again if I force it to re-verify the account settings. But after a while, it would stop working.
I've been using Nexus phones since Nexus One. This is the first time we see an update on the default email app. But it doesn't look like Google has done a great job verifying/QA their app before releasing it to public.
I'm thinking to open up an official support case with Google support if you haven't already done so.
Actually, haven't you tried changing the Security Type in Incoming settings from "SSL/TLS" to "SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)"? I just changed it on mine, and waiting to see if it helps resolve the issue.
I'm having issues with stock email client and company exchange, too.
When set to push, as i usually did on the n4, it won't let the n5 properly go to sleep, but phone keeps awake, and consuming quite a lot of battery overnight.
Sync also has stopped yesterday, but started again 2 hours later, therefore I'm not sure wether it's the n5's or exchange's fault.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I have tried this, I have tried every security method (except none, which defaults to SSL/TLS anyways).
I notice if I look under Accounts > Corporate and then my Exchange account, the sync / cancel sync animation is on a constant loop. My S3, for example, just sais 'Last sync at xxxx'. etc. Do you guys notice this also?
Something deff not right with this. How do you log a ticket with Google support? I have tried with Google Groups but getting no response.
Thanks.
Same problem here. Refreshes fine when I manually sync but push is not working. Was working fine on my Galaxy Nexus/Jellybean
I'm not experiencing any of these issues, my sync is working fine, as is the app and battery usage

I have had to move off the stock app and onto K9. My problem is that the stock app is deleting emails from the server when deleted from the phone, even when I make sure it is set never to do so. My account is a POP account and I have never had this problem with any other app on any other device. I tried recreating the account but it was the same problem.
6 people in the company I work for got a Nexus 5. I tried to set up one of their email accounts yesterday, but it wouldn't do anything. It seemed like it accepted the account, but it wouldn't sync any old mail, and it wouldn't notify about new mail. New mail would only show up about 15 minutes after being sent, and only after the inbox was manually refreshed.
Tried K9 mail. Same thing. I have never had any luck with K9 mail, though.
I'm hoping Google fixes this rather quickly. I'm a developer and I need my work email to always be available, because I am essentially on-call all day.
It seems like Google, in their rush to get KitKat out, did way less QA this time around than they have in the past.

This is similar to what I am seeing. After initial sync, I would never get any new messages. Check your subfolders if you have any, these seem to sync fine.
Whats the process to raise this with Google?

Subfolders were not syncing for me yesterday, however, I'll have to wait until my phone comes in today to really test this. Most of the people I work with don't set up their subfolders correctly in Zimbra because they can never get the filtering to work, and I am always too busy to do it for them. As a result, they make subfolders, but just drag-and-drop what they want in that subfolder from the main inbox-- an utter pain in the ass.
In 4.3, "Take Bug Report" is one of the choiced under Developer Options. If that is still present in 4.4, that would probably be the best place to do it.
If that doesn't work, there is always this: http://source.android.com/source/report-bugs.html
Same as I'm seeing too. Initial email download worked fine. Manual sync works. Push sync is not downloading new emails

Got mine working eventually by following this youtube video - GT5uHXLO298 - sorry won't let me post a link as I'm new! Just search YouTube for this reference number.
Took 3 attempts. First time it got stuck in a sync loop. Second time it stuck at waiting for sync. Third times a charm and now getting push emails.
Slick Google, real slick!

Thanks for posting the link to the video. My auto-sync data is ticked in the Data Usage setting. If I turn off then back on again, it still makes no difference to the sync.
The thing with my issue is that I cant even manually sync, if I try, it does not update any emails which have been delivered to my Outlook client. The fact it only affects my Inbox is strange too, my subfolders sync fine.

Yes, I'm getting the exact same issue. Exchange push sync is working fine, but the e-mail app is keeping the phone awake. My phone went from 100% to 41% battery in 4 hours! I have changed the setting to check mail every 5 minutes rather than push to see if this helps in any way.
I have raised this with our Zimbra provider, and they have said they have seen this on another 4.4 device and are currently investigating. Still not sure if its a Zimbra and/or Email App issue at the moment - I am leaning towards a Zimbra issue but will wait and see.
For now I would personally think oft an KitKat issue, as my problem persists with an MS Exchange Server, not Zimbra.

Zimbra Exchange Problems
I'm having all the same issues with Zimbra Exchange on my Nexus 5. Sync will work the first time. Then it will either stop or get stuck in a sync loop.
I have just been playing with the settings and seem to have gotten it to work for a short time (well more than it has done so far)..
On the mail profile set the Days to Sync from 3 days to 'All'. I also un-ticked the 'Sender Image' under General Settings. After a few mins, it ceased pushing emails again, and the sync loop was showing under account sync settings. Its like it was working whilst it performed its 1st sync, then died straight after
My corporate email account has been pushing and such just fine since I set it up yesterday, we run an Exchange 2007 server at my office. Not sure why it isn't working for you guys..

Hi everybody,
I have the sames trouble with my new Nexus5.
I had a Nexus 4 with an Exchange Push Account and a Zimbra Push Account. No problem !
Yesterday,I configured my Nexus5 with exactly the same configuration. And that is a tragedy !
With a perfect similar configuration, the Nexus5 is unable to synchronize email for Exchange and Zimbra ... For Zimbra Sync loop and drains the battery.
Let's hope Google responds quickly
I am reassured that I am not alone

Gmail stuck on "Syncing mail..."

Hi everyone,
I've had a Pixel 2 (128 GB), since November. Had no issues until 2-3 days ago, I noticed that under the notifications it says "Syncing mail..." and just stays there forever. I've got 3 different mail accounts (Gmail, Hotmail, work), I've turned off syncing to all 3 accounts but the notification remains. I'm unable to force stop, and the only way to make it go away is to turn on airplane mode and reboot the phone. But the moment I turn data back on the message comes back.
Anyone got any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks.
Had this issue, too. Removed my Outlook Mail Account and added it again... Solved the problem for me.

Same issue happening for me as well......Cleared data and cache, didn't fix it, removed account and put it back, still didn't fix it. Seems to have started after the most recent Gmail app update.
gmail has been very buggy with this phone. Emails come late or don't sync until multiple attempts.
I have the exact same issue on a Nexus 6P. It happened during the Oreo beta, then went away after public release. Came back this week. I have done all of the steps above - still a constant notification. Super annoying.
Same thing here on OnePlus 3 Oreo
It just started happening last week on my OnePlus 3 with Android Oreo and it annoyed me enough to Google the problem and I landed here. I haven't tried anything yet and not going to (too much work to resync multiple accounts) - this seems like a bad app update. Going to wait it out until the next one.
Same issue, some more info
I have the same issue, it seems to be related to work accounts going through Exchange. If you remove your work account the notification goes away. But if I add it again I still have the same problem. It is also only an issue on Oreo, I have seen that OnePlus users are now having the same problem after updating their devices. For now I have configured my work Exchange email to use IMAP, this gets rid of the syncing message but email is no longer pushed, it gets synced every 15mins
Alternatively you can un-install updates from Gmail and turn off auto update on the Gmail app and then add your Exchange account, this seems to get rid of the constant mail syncing message.
Got the same issue on my HTC 10 after upgrading to Oreo, tried removing and re-adding the exchange account and clearing cache and data but nothing gets rid of it.
I am getting this on my OG Pixel. Probably not something Pixel/Pixel2 related, sounds a lot more like Oreo/Gmail APP related (not specifically gmail itself, just the app).
If I had to pose a guess, this is likely Exchange sync, where some function of exchange sync in gmail is causing the app to prompt this constantly. I won't venture a guess what, though I have a theory. In either way, it's annoying and seemingly benign. as in, it causes no problems either with sync or with the phone, but if you're like me and like to have a neat and tidy notification bar, it will drive you utterly mad.
This comes and goes for me, it's not consistent. Usually toggling WiFi on and off makes it go away after connecting and reconnecting to a network. I have an Exchange account added.
I found out that my issue was that I my outlook already syncs with my Gmail, so i didn't actual have to add my outlook account. It was "gmailified" already.
Solved this issue on my Samsung M30s
I tried all the methods shared by other users, however finally I logged out and login again my email account, then restarted the device to resolve this constant syncing email issue.
I hope it would be helpful to others as well.
