Galaxy S3 launched - General Topics

Now that another piece of plastic made by Samsung has been launched, you can all relax and carry on......
Looks to me as a mutation between Galaxy Nexus and S2....no worries, it's "mimicking warmth & beauty of nature" though
let the games begin.

LOL funny how HOX screen was too big for the past month when the sgs3 was rumoured to be 4.6inch - but SGS3 is 4.8inch confirmed.
& still just 8mp camera, so much for expecting 12mp.

Just like the RISC architecture was better than x86
And seriously now i personally don't get this SD Card hype...we have already 32GB on the devices, what's the point in stuffing more when the battery of any smartphone today can't keep up more than a day or so of normal usage, let alone HD video playback or gaming.

And don't forget 23 gb free storage on dropbox, I would rather have all that back up space for all my photos then a removable SD card.

Is 32gb storage plus 25gb (50gb really as 25 can be received via skydive too) cloud storage not enough? LOL

GS3 is an Awful looking phone, the mockups looked sexy, ah well. dont care about SD Card, unless you get a class 10 you will knacker you performance. Sammy are offering 50gb dropbox, but do you needthat much for your phone.. Really.
TouchWiz has a few new bits but still looks like a bear's arse. Also why just 1gb ram, where is the rumoured 2gb?
They had a chance to make it stand out from all the other Galaxys, they failed. HTC One X may have a few software bugs atm but i am well and truly sticking with HTC. I have had a Galaxy S2 and Nexus and actually missed HTC

although s3 seems better but it cant match htc one x build quality. did u guys see loudspeaker. its looks crap ewwwwww. Nice that i didnt wait and bought one x otherwise today i would have bought one x really one x is overall consumer device. s3 is a geeks dream who care about specs and rooting custom roms till core. as i can see both devices are top notch with each having pro and cons but afterall htc build quality can hardly be questioned. i would go for one x on one x vs s3. sgs3 better lhck next tym

I am glad I didn't wait. Not being a fan boy or anything, but the phone looks ugly compared to the OneX, even the back of he S3 looks ugly. Touchwiz is also ugly compared to Sense.
There will be the people that will go with it because they "need" the extra battery, or SD Card. Neither bothered me as I have a portable battery anyway.
I dont doubt that it will be quicker than the OneX on benchmark tests, the camera might even be better (although it only does 25 snaps compared to our 99 ) but it has Touchwiz and it looks fugly!

SGS3 in a word : Ugly

there's quad core and microsd support is useless , 32 gb memory
I'm just gonna go all the way and say it's a letdown altogether. No quad-core (inb4 "IS IT REALLY NECESSARY?! No, but in the future it might be), no MicroSD support, no user-removable battery, Sense 4.0 is terrible and completely ruins ICS.

It's not useless. MicroSD cards are about replace-ability and portability. eMMC corrupts more frequently than MicroSD cards, and then what will you do?

The AT&T varient has the new Qualcomm S4 which blows away the Tegra 3 in benchmarks (Go to anandtech). I think the One X looks pretty amazing, but I'm 99% sure I'll be getting the GS III when it comes out. I love my SII so much, and I don't think I would want to ever go to a display that isn't Amoled. Anyways, the SIII will blow this away just like the GSII blew the Sensation away.
**You guys are totally misinformed when it comes to processing power. The S4 is much better than the ****ty Tegra 3. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5563/qualcomms-snapdragon-s4-krait-vs-nvidias-tegra-3

The biggest letdown is no microSD. That's the reason I got the G2 over the Nexus S.
HTC had a chance to wow me as I have been looking to upgrade my phone. This "HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!!" was a major let down. Any additional news was not good news. Not quad core in the US? AT&T only is an instant killer for most people I know. I'd rather use a walkie talkie from the 90's with the giant metal antennae than use AT&T.
So... anyone have a suggestion for a new badass phone coming out? Preferably I'd love to have something that can use my powermat. As for HTC...goodbye business.
Not that overly impressive preview of the one X.

The lack of sd support has always baffled me. I can't understand why certain manufacturers would omit such an important and basic feature, such as an sd slot. If anybody could shed light on this, Id be curious to know.

It's bizarre, I have a 32GB card in my DHD, what am I supposed to do if I buy a One X, just discard it?
I can understand to a point. I mean the Iphones don't let you meddle with the memory. I think the SD card is A, their way to try and limit rooting, and B, helps keep the thickness of the phone down.
Yeah Ive been doing some research and Nvidia's tegra products are way over-rated. They left out a whole set of instructions, and their GPU gets its butt kicked by the Power VR SGX540 and the Adreno 205. Also this new dual-core Snapdragon blows away everything thats currently out, I don't think it'll be so bad. I'm seriously considering upgrading to this, but my only concern is HTC's site has the AT&T variant listed as 16GB of storage. 16GB and no SD would be a deal breaker, however 32GB and no SD I'm perfectly content with.
Yeah, I really hope the US variant has more than 16 GB. That'd be idiotic.
what's with all these jumbophones? 4.3 is really the max for me, 4 would be ideal
The Desire Z is gonna be my last HTC I guess. They really need to come up with a new design language. The One X looks horrible, it's oversized, though the specs are near ideal at this point. The One S is the looks OK but has a Pentile screen (pentile = gtfo). The One V actually looks the best out of the bunch, but the specs are crap.
I think i'm gonna go with the Xperia P for this round, it's got about the same performance as the galaxy s2 (mali400mp gpu), great design, screen and camera.
Also what's up with all this memory babble? I have an 8GB card on my DZ and it's still not full. 16GB will be more than enough for most people, and seriously if you fill up 32GB, you have issues (you don't need to install ALL the games or put ALL your music on the phone).

Lol someone has little hands . The galaxy note works perfect for me. And you can't say much about storage because different people have different needs. Why not put all your music on your phone? What's wrong with that? The iPhone boasts about being a phone and having good music playing abilities. Why shouldn't we use android as our portable music source too?

The One X/S is HTC's vision of the iPhone 5 running ICS.
Everyone needs to get off the quad-core bandwagon. Yes, QUAD sounds nice but when you do a performance test of the Tegra 3 vs. Snapdragon S4, the S4 blows the Tegra 3 away when it comes to overall performance. I've never been amazed with Nvidia's Tegra series. Nvidia has always been the first to go dual-core or quad-core but they always lacked the gpu processing power. The ulp geforce in the Tegra 3 is embarrassing. Quad-core with a gpu that's not even faster than powerve sgx 543? NO THANKS. You're going to get mad bottlenecking with the Tegra 3. Until Nvidia uses the next generation architecture for their gpus, it won't outperform qualcomm, samsung or omap.
The S4 maybe dual-core but it's a 23nm processor (Tegra 3 is a 40nm) AND it has the new Adeno 225, which is on par with powervr sgx543mp2.
My next phone might be the HTC One S. Ill see if my cousin can hook it up, or a friends upgrade. These phones are awesome only thing I would like is for the one x to be on tmobile or the HTC one s to have a 720p screen and micro sd

Sensation or One X?

Hey guys, I might sign up for a contract after the recent death of
my beloved HD2, but I don't know if I should get the HTC sensation XE
pr the HTC One X, would it be worth waiting for the One X, or should
I just buy the Sensation XE?
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/htc...ternet-only-31-per-month-mobilephones-1154717
Get the One X
If the Sensation gets a proper Sense 4.0 update, then the Sensation is more worth it unless you do heavy gaming. When it comes to poking around Android, a quad core offers little improvement over a dual-core.
go for the one x man the sensation unfortunately is already old
One S
The One S is similar to the Sensation. You need a big hand for One X's 4.7 inch screen . Apparently, that's why iPhones don't get any bigger. You're supposed to be able to reach the top left corner with your thumb whilst holding the phone.
If u want the latest & bigger screen, then go for One. Otherwise the S4G still rocks....

Free for two years...that's HTC dropping you a hint.
For now I wait to know what are the possibilities of the dark side before you get into the purchase of one X.
Sensation has removable battery, microsd expansion, Dual core 1.2Ghz Qualcomm S3
Phones that dont have microsd or removable battery
Xperia S (Dual core 1.5Ghz S3) - no microsd, embedded battery
HTC One series - no microsd embedded battery (free 2 years dropbox) (X - Dual core 1.5Ghz S4 or Tegra 3)
Galaxy Nexus - no microsd (Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9)
Ask yourself what you do need
To be fair, the One X has 25gb of USEABLE storage, and I have NEVER used more than 16gb on my hd2( which was the size of my sd card)
I don't mind not having a removable battery, I'm sure that any 3rd
Party accessory producers can make a portable charger( they probs already
Have a few)
I think the Sensation is best for flash rom and so the removable battery is important for me and internal capacity ...

HTC Sense 5 coming

HTC will have a major flagship device hitting Verizon shelves in the fall. It’s said to feature a whopping 5-inch 1080p HD display (a non-PenTile screen), a new chipset that includes a quad-core Krait CPU and an Adreno 320 GPU, HTC Sense 5 and a Scribe pen. Yes, HTC is launching a Galaxy Note competitor.
Details here: http://www.bgr.com/2012/04/26/verizons-summer-fall-2012-smartphone-roadmap/
Nice, I hope we get official Sense 4 by then!
You lost me at 5 inch screen.
This is supposed to be a phone. Something I keep in my pocket comfortably.
The 4.3" screen on the Sensation is pushing the upper limits of what is practical to be carrying around all day every day.
oommmgggg 5" screens are so retarded.
The article is so vague and cloudy that you can stick through it with a finger. Sense 5 four months after Sense 4? In a company whose main asset is the software layer? Sure, sure.

I agree with this, when I went to the ICS ROMs I got about a 25-30% battery improvement, making it unnecessary to buy a larger battery. The lack of an SD (or XD!) slot is the killer for me. They are not going to put enough "virtual SD" memory in the phone to satisfy me, and I am not into major cloud storage. They are not going to pay my internet bill or put in more damned towers so I can get H+ to sync 32+ gigs of data, and I want my data on my system.
As for Sense 5, meh. They will go through 4.1 and then probably 4.5, 4.6, then maybe 5.0.
hopefully sense 5 will be stripped down even more

In a nutshell. The sgs 3 is the same processor as the one x. Performance will be about the same with multi tasking being better on the sgs 3. You give up an sd card slot and a removable battery in favor of a better screen and more of a solid feel.

I hope you're right man. I think it's the superior phone. If we could only get something like CM9 working completely that would fix the multitasking, then i'd have no complaints.
I had the one x , sold it and bought an s3 (att/rogers dual core version)
Honestly and truly the one x is a better device in some ways. The battery life is much better on the one x due to the lcd screen using less power despite the two having the same processor. The screen is better too, the one x screen is a lot better and clearer even at lower brightness. Not to mention it just overall looks better (brighter and truer whites, colours also actually look natural unlike amoled). And you cant even deny the fact that the one x has a much much better build quality its a better and more solid feeling device.
Though the siii has an edge over the one x in some areas like sense vs touchwiz, i find that touchwiz almost never lags vs the one x still had hiccups in some areas slight homescreen lag etc etc which is almost non existant on the siii. Plus for me the major issue that drove me away from my one x is the multi tasking issue, basically the one x has the most aggressive app switcher that kills an app almost instantly after you exit it, the phone is near useless at multi tasking. iE if i was listening to music and went to change the song while browsing, when i came back to the browser the phone would have to "reload" the app.
With that said, the two phones are practically neck to neck, just depends what you prefer as strongpoints and what you can live with as weak points. I would sell my siii in a heartbeat if the stupid multi tasking issue was fixed on the one x.
just my " two cents."

Curious, what was your net loss selling the One X and buying a new S3?

Hmm i got lucky and got a good price for my one x, bought it for 500, sold it for 480 and bought the galaxy s iii for 500.
I prefer the screen and build quality of the One X but love that Samsung released source code so soon (most likely just to steal sells and pull users like myself)
Everything else has been said. They both have advantages and disadvantages. It's pick your poison.
Me, I chose to go where the source was. No sense waiting 90 to 142 (if there's an update) days and using workarounds to unlock the bootloader if someone else openly offers both.
I know, I'm a broken record since I got this phone. I'll try to post a little less lol. Just frustrated with HTC

The main reason i dont like my GS3 is because the build quality of it feels a bit cheap, like the back battery cover already has a crack in the top right corner. I also get a few kinks like my SD card randomly unmounts, i get lags here and there, a few FC's, and launcher restarts. Other than that the phone is solid...Just a couple things i would expect it to tackle but samsung kinda over looked.
On the other hand ive used HTC devices before and there build quality even back when i was using the G1 was great, they make it feel solid along with adding the perfect amount of weight to the phone. Ive never had a problem with an HTC phone, only with there batterys, thats why i was kinda leery on the One X not having a removable back so if the battery does screw up like it has in my G1, HD2 and MT4G i can just easily put a new one in. But overall i dont mind it having less ram and no SD port because i pay for my dropbox monthly to have extra space.

In a nutshell. The sgs 3 is the same processor as the one x. Performance will be about the same with multi tasking being better on the sgs 3. You give up an sd card slot and a removable battery in favor of a better screen and more of a solid feel.

Agreed. That being said I'm favoring my SGSIII at the moment.

Ok, so i have had the AT&T Galaxy S3 for a couple weeks now and its not wowing me like i was expecting and been eyeballing the AT&T HTC One X and not sure on getting that next and selling the S3. So what are your opinions on whats a better device and why its the better device. And before some one trys to bash me, i like other peoples review on devices and why than going by some internet post without hands on backing to it.

Its getting redundant with that same reply im getting. Like i stated in the OP "And before some one trys to bash me, i like other peoples review on devices and why than going by some internet post without hands on backing to it." I much rather take to a forum where the main phone is the HOX where people that will actaully reply used the One X and maybe both One X and SGS3 and can give me solid reasoning why. I trust some ones word that has used the device longer then just some one who is just doing a review because they have too...

Thanks for your questions. After all it is the General HTC one X forum!
Rather than waste a post with a school girl reply, I will help answer your question.
I have had both and took back the SGIII. I like the One X better, mainly because the SGIII screen does not work as well outdoors and the whites are more greyish than the One X.
Hope that helps?
What's not "wowing you" about the SGS 3? This info might get you a better answer.
We seem to be losing more and more people everyday to the sgs3. Source better come soon or I think this phone will be doomed development wise.

Confusion to buy

Hey guys i am new here so sorry if i am posting in wrong section..i wanted a lil bit advice on buying a new phone
i was first about to buy Dell venue pro...read its reviews stating poor battery life...i really loved this phone but cancelled it from my list
Now my current choices are HTC Evo 3d ,HTC Sensation XL , HTC Titan
Samsung Galaxy S3 Is OPTIONAL
Now heres what i've collected research
HTC EVO 3D :- Pros-Blazing fast ,Rugged,Dedicated camera key,3D videos and pics
Cons-3D Sometimes gives headache,bulky
some more info i got on this phone is LG Optimus 3d is better than this in terms of 3d...but i am a brand loyal guy.
Additional questions : I know that its glasses free 3D but if i use glasses will it give me more immersive experience ?
HTC Sensation XL :- Pros- GIGANTIC 4.7 inch display,Sexy looking beast
Cons-No microsd slot only internal memory, 8mp camera is decent
some more info i got is XL in some cases out performs XE which is dual core
HTC Titan :- Pros-Massive but beautiful 4.7 inch display ,butter smooth than android
Cons- no micro sd slot,Windows phone, no bluetooth
Now let me tell you that i am a very rough user of mobile ..no i dont wrestle with mobiles...but my usage is very harsh
like when i arrive at home i throw my mobile 6 meters far at 4 feet height..so i want my mobile to be durable
I dont get hyped by RAM ,Speed,Apps...seriously i am not gonna die if my app loads 3-10 seconds late than other mobile
speed is not an issue and so is lag...like the pinch to zoom lag and all...I am all about 60% showoff and 40% mobile use
i.e 60% mobile should be sexy looking cosmetic beast and 40% overall mobile features
i am favouring towards sensation xl because of its huge display...but the "Beats" thing is gimmicky ..but its sexy looking
Evo 3d is Nearly indestructible with 3d features
and last but not the least i consider titan as "The larger HD2" with windows phone
BTW S3 is option because its cheaply built...
PS :- before anyone giving me advice on other phones pls read below
I am not an apple fanboy..the best use of iphone is to show other people that you can afford an iphone , so no iphone
Galaxy S2 is ugly
Lumia 800 and 900 are beast but they're on windows
thanks in advance and sorry for sucha long post
Look at the s3. It seems to have everything you are wanting (based off your pros and cons of the other devices). It's really fast, has a micro sd slot, 8mega pixel camera, quad core (the international version), it's not super rigged, but there's no real reason to throw your phone (and just get a good case). Ih, and it has a great xda community.

Agree its one of the best devices yet...but you know i feels way to plasticy ...nd also i've got a dog who sees mobile phones as bones..still thanx for suggestion...what about other phones mentioned
Altough you have not mentioned this, I suggest you take a look at the HTC One X. It has nice styling, something you said is more important than pure performance. It's performance will also leave you satisfied as it's among the best android smartphones out there. Sure, it has no MicroSD slot, but nothing OTG can't solve.
In my opinion, you should check that out too before you make a decision. :good:
Honestly my opinion is there is no new phone that is durable, but there are really good heavy duty covers. So don't look for a strong phone they're all the same.
Although my HTC desire HD was good with the metal housing.

samsung galaxy
Samsung Galaxy s3 is the best choice
I'd suggest the galaxy nexus ! I bought one a few weeks ago and I'm loving it ! I understand newer phones have better hardware, but what for ? my nexus is hella smooth nonetheless, and cheaper !!!
You're considering the titan but

In either case, I will recommend something. Don't get a WP until WP8 comes out. Otherwise you're just buying into a dead end that not even xda can likely fix.
For durability, and if you're on AT&T, try the Samsung Rugby Smart. Or even better, try not to throw your phones. :silly:
If you gonna throw your phone, phones like Motorola Razr, Xperia Go are the ones for you...

^ That made me laugh. But I agree. The Razr and Xperia are rugged phones IMO. I currently have the Samsung S3 and I'm worried the slightest accident will 'break a nail'. But, it's a great phone otherwise.
Htc sensation xl:thumbup:

Evo 3D is honestly such a sexy phone. That could be one of your options

samsung galaxy 3 all the way
Samsung or bust!
samsung galaxy s3 is the newest and the best one
I would suggest you One S. Its aluminium body is beautiful, screen is somewhat good (not sure about PenTile), and camera is great. Snapdragon S4 is as fast as Tegra 3, and it's cheaper.
Galaxy nexus no SD card but its durable and it has jellybean I switched from the s2/s3 to nexus and couldn't be happier Google now is awesome
