HTC will have a major flagship device hitting Verizon shelves in the fall. It’s said to feature a whopping 5-inch 1080p HD display (a non-PenTile screen), a new chipset that includes a quad-core Krait CPU and an Adreno 320 GPU, HTC Sense 5 and a Scribe pen. Yes, HTC is launching a Galaxy Note competitor.

Nice, I hope we get official Sense 4 by then!
You lost me at 5 inch screen.
This is supposed to be a phone. Something I keep in my pocket comfortably.
The 4.3" screen on the Sensation is pushing the upper limits of what is practical to be carrying around all day every day.
oommmgggg 5" screens are so retarded.
The article is so vague and cloudy that you can stick through it with a finger. Sense 5 four months after Sense 4? In a company whose main asset is the software layer? Sure, sure.
don't bother listening to BGR they just post whatever pops up in their inbox to get pageviews.

lol I agree. And please HTC, allow the battery to be removed on this new device along with allowing us to upgrade the amount of memory. The fact that I cannot do this with the upcoming ONE-X means that I have no interest in that phone (even though I'm tempted by the 4.7 inch screen size).

I agree with this, when I went to the ICS ROMs I got about a 25-30% battery improvement, making it unnecessary to buy a larger battery. The lack of an SD (or XD!) slot is the killer for me. They are not going to put enough "virtual SD" memory in the phone to satisfy me, and I am not into major cloud storage. They are not going to pay my internet bill or put in more damned towers so I can get H+ to sync 32+ gigs of data, and I want my data on my system.
As for Sense 5, meh. They will go through 4.1 and then probably 4.5, 4.6, then maybe 5.0.
hopefully sense 5 will be stripped down even more

Ya non-removable battery and no mircoSD is a no no.
Even the S3 which is just as slim as Tue One X has SD & removable battery.
Perhaps next series would have what ONe series is lacking

Hi!
I returned my Samsung Galaxy S2 back to the store and am now waiting for the HTC Sensation. While the Galaxy S2 is a nice phone, I really despise the TouchWiz. Even with ADW Launcher EX & WidgetLocker mitigating the terribleness of the interface Samsung has built, the stock apps still are very uncomfortable to use - especially e-mail, messaging and calendar are lacking. And most of their other attempts at apps aren't any better - dismal at best.
The back cover is unpleasant to remove which is peeving if you like to switch the battery to a fresh one (although spare batteries are not released till mid-june) or regularly move between different countries and therefore like to change SIMs (like I do).
I also would have preferred a capacitive home-button, instead of a physical switch.
Other bugs (which will probably soon be patched) are bothersome as well, like the 3G data connection regularly stalling - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097612
Specs-wise I think having a higher resolution screen will be a very nice addition, the lower amount of RAM & internal storage probably won't be all that noticeable. I wonder why HTC didn't include an HSPA+ radio, but I think that is something I can definitively live with.
Are any other Samsung Galaxy S2 expatriates lurking on this board? What were your Galaxy-experiences, why are you now waiting for the HTC Sensation instead?

I didn't mean to paint you as a fanboy. By the same token I'm not a fanboy either. Before the disaster that was the G2X my last five phone's were HTCs and I really liked all of them. I had to get the SGS2 because the Sensation wouldn't have been availbale before the G2X had to be returned to T-Mobile. I would have seriously considered the Sensation if that wasn't the case. I'm a phone geek which is why I'm following the Sensation; not to bash it. Both phones are going to have considerable strengths and weaknesses. We should be able to discuss them without threads turning in to page after page of "yes it is," "no it isn't." Peace.

I disappoint... Galaxy S II is much better!
Since 2003 I'm a HTC sure user but now I have to disappoint at all with you and with HTC!
I'm very sorry the new sensation is just considered worse than Galaxy S II but we have to admit this is the thuth!
1) Also if the Galaxy Display resolution (480x800pxl) is lower than htc sens (540x960) its technology is better than htc because is "amoled" and so we have a lower battery consuption, better coulor and luminosity, and better view when there is much sunlight
2) RAM: 1024Mb for Galaxy, 768Mb for htc: no words.....
3) Internal memory: 16Gb or 32Gb (depends by the phone version) for Galaxy while htc sens have got just 1GB! no words still!!
4) cameras: Samsung first one 8mpxl, second one (frontal) 2mpxl; for htc sens is 8mpxl the first one too, but 1.3mpxl the sencond one....
5) battery consuption: with a very similar usage Galaxy SII lasts about 2 full days, while HTC sens just 1/1,5days
I'm very sad to tell it but this time I'll change and I'll buy a Samsung...
Good decision OP, who cares about SamSux. I'll give give them 2-3 month and all hell will break lose in there. SamSux bashing SamSux, look at our development section phones isn't release and no clockwork mod yet and we have 3 roms already. That just tells you HTC is more superior than SamSux. Untill they change their filesystem, HTC will be prefer choice for dev community. Don't matter what spec they have.

I loved the fact that the Galaxy S2 is a very sleek design, thin and light. But the drawbacks - especially in the software area - are very obvious. Their replacements of stock Google apps are, in general, not better but much worse than the original. Plenty of bugs still plague the software - the current version of Music player causes random reboots, data connection is stalling all the time.
Sense (from what I could test on colleagues phones - mainly Desire HD) seems much more thought out and usable to me. I will, still, probably switch to a stock Android ROM, should one arise. But I don't want to be dependent on that.

While AMOLED certainly does produce excellent black levels and saturated colours (maybe even oversaturated), after owning a Nexus One with AMOLED since release I do think the drawback of the technology is the inevitable screen burn-in you get after a few months of use. Nothing that is really bothersome, but LCD technology certainly does have its advantages (besides the higher resolution)

The actual available application memory on the Galaxy S2 is about 2GB, the rest is formated as an internal SD card. In my situation, I typically have about 500MB of app space used - 2GB would have been a nice, but that will still leave me with plenty of headroom once my Sensation is here. A 32GB SD-card will take care of all other storage problems (mainly podcasts, music).

This will vary greatly, but the battery access cover on the Galaxy S2 is very flimsy and uncomfortable to remove. I always carry a second battery for my Nexus One, I will do the same for my Sensation. Changing batteries on the Galaxy S2 (as soon as replacements are available in stores) will be a hassle.
i've done the opposite i've got rid of my sensation and have back ordered the sgs2 the biggest killer for me was the locked bootloader

You may get flamed by some of the fanboys, but at the end of the day it's all about what feels good to YOU and stuff the rest. I again prefer the more solid feel and try to avoid "cheap" plasticky feel, plus have been put off by plenty of users in many forums I've been to who knock Samsung's lack of updates. Hopefully for you they sort this out. Good luck with your choice
I probably still have a month or 2 before the Sensation is available here, and am hoping for some positive news re the bootloader saga.

I currently have a G2x as well as the Atrix. Ordered the Sensation and the SGS2 as well. Been using both the G2x and the Atrix for a while now and so far, I'm inclined towards the Atrix even though it has the locked bootloader simply because Ive had too many random reboot issues, freeze issues with the G2x (even though I've returned it twice) and I'm not concerned about the light bleed issue.
Once I've received the SGS2 and the Sensation (This Tuesday woohooo!!), I'll have all 4 to test with side by side. Will narrow it down to the top 2 and those are the ones I'm keeping I usually have 2 phones (1 work, 1 personal). If anyone has any suggestions or want me to look at/compare something in specific, let me know.

Get the One X
If the Sensation gets a proper Sense 4.0 update, then the Sensation is more worth it unless you do heavy gaming. When it comes to poking around Android, a quad core offers little improvement over a dual-core.
go for the one x man the sensation unfortunately is already old
One S
The One S is similar to the Sensation. You need a big hand for One X's 4.7 inch screen . Apparently, that's why iPhones don't get any bigger. You're supposed to be able to reach the top left corner with your thumb whilst holding the phone.

Free for two years...that's HTC dropping you a hint.
For now I wait to know what are the possibilities of the dark side before you get into the purchase of one X.
Sensation has removable battery, microsd expansion, Dual core 1.2Ghz Qualcomm S3
Phones that dont have microsd or removable battery
Xperia S (Dual core 1.5Ghz S3) - no microsd, embedded battery
HTC One series - no microsd embedded battery (free 2 years dropbox) (X - Dual core 1.5Ghz S4 or Tegra 3)
Galaxy Nexus - no microsd (Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9)
Ask yourself what you do need
To be fair, the One X has 25gb of USEABLE storage, and I have NEVER used more than 16gb on my hd2( which was the size of my sd card)
I don't mind not having a removable battery, I'm sure that any 3rd
Party accessory producers can make a portable charger( they probs already
Have a few)
I think the Sensation is best for flash rom and so the removable battery is important for me and internal capacity ...

And seriously now i personally don't get this SD Card hype...we have already 32GB on the devices, what's the point in stuffing more when the battery of any smartphone today can't keep up more than a day or so of normal usage, let alone HD video playback or gaming.

GS3 is an Awful looking phone, the mockups looked sexy, ah well. dont care about SD Card, unless you get a class 10 you will knacker you performance. Sammy are offering 50gb dropbox, but do you needthat much for your phone.. Really.
TouchWiz has a few new bits but still looks like a bear's arse. Also why just 1gb ram, where is the rumoured 2gb?
They had a chance to make it stand out from all the other Galaxys, they failed. HTC One X may have a few software bugs atm but i am well and truly sticking with HTC. I have had a Galaxy S2 and Nexus and actually missed HTC

I am glad I didn't wait. Not being a fan boy or anything, but the phone looks ugly compared to the OneX, even the back of he S3 looks ugly. Touchwiz is also ugly compared to Sense.
There will be the people that will go with it because they "need" the extra battery, or SD Card. Neither bothered me as I have a portable battery anyway.
I dont doubt that it will be quicker than the OneX on benchmark tests, the camera might even be better (although it only does 25 snaps compared to our 99 ) but it has Touchwiz and it looks fugly!
SGS3 in a word : Ugly
Have you guys thought to switch to Sensation and what have kept you not to?

8mp camera
dual-core processor.
size is 59x115x11 mm vs 65x126x11 mm
for a future proof... is it worth 100e more investment. the sensation forum is flooded with problems tho.. desire s seems more happy customers. might be because they are sold lots more and only pissed ppl contact forums...
ps. phone buying seems to be harder than i thought
Sensation has problems with the audio
I don t think it s a good choice
In internet you can find newer phones low cost(-100-200€ )
Sent from my HTC Desire S with xda premium
If you want a bigger screen and hungrier battery eater - Sensation is good.
If you're comparing functionality - Sensation isn't enough of an upgrade.
I had this same problem. Now instead of an sensation I'm looking at the Galaxy Nexus.

If you have to choose between the two, I would go for the sensation.

Yeah, if money weren't the problem, I'd go for the One S. But if you have a tight budget, go for the Sensation...

Also of pentile weren't the problem, and storage limitation wasn't the problem
I would have so got the One S otherwise

Anyway, Pentile or not, the screen is still an upgrade from our phone. The clarity and sharpness will be much better.
Personally storage isn't a problem for me anymore. I don't mind the lack if SD card. I think Google wants it this way now, to standardise things and avoid complications, such as app data disappearing, slow apps (due to slow SD read/write speeds)
Having said that, Sammy released the SGS3 with a SD card ...

S4 for me is nicer

But is a more powerful CPU at all necessary? I couldn't imagine any real world situation that could arise in the next two years where a Snapdragon 600 wouldn't be sufficient. The One is just so much better than the GS4, especially if both are running stock.
Samsung for me
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
After two Samsungs, I am not touching another one.
Plus, the Galaxy feels cheap and it has a rather tacky design (and Touchwiz is even uglier).
The HTC One is one of the few Androids with good hardware design and one of the first to give the iPhone a run for its money.
I had ordered the HTC One Developer Edition, but after the delays, I went with the stainless steel Lenovo K900 (http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/lenovo-k900-launches-in-china/) which should arrive next week.
Let's see. I require expandable storage. (No WiFi or 3G signal for 6 hours a day).. Yea, okay, I can stop there already.
Doesn't really make it a decision anymore then, does it? No bloody MicroSD, what the hell was HTC thinking...
Samsung S4 for sure
i think the s4 G edition because of the support

to remain the one-batch forming affect , less jack would be better,
16gb S4
That is a tough decision, I want the S4 Google edition, but I can get a regular S4, unlock it an root it so ..... do I necessary need the Google edition?
The processor on the S4 is better and you have the option for a 64bit external SD. I would get the 16gb version S4 and a 64bit class 10 sd, unlock, root and rom with stock rom and install MOD][15DEC]ExtSd2InternalSd v5.5|Increase your data storage

I don't know if you realise this but the VAST majority of consumers don't need an SD card or removable battery and couldn't care less whether or not the One has those things. Maybe it would help attract some of us power users from XDA but other than that most people (including myself) are more than content with 32/64 GB storage options. If there's one thing I think that HTC simply did wrong with the One, it's the buttons. I don't have any clue why they made the frankly idiotic decision to get rid of the multitasking button and make the home button off-center because it somewhat ruins the aesthetics and functionality for me. That also means there's no way to remap a button to menu (as was possible on the HOX) and as a result the three dots overflow is present in most apps. Other than that, I personally think they didn't made any other obvious mistakes with the phone. Sense was actually very nice and the camera may have been a gamble but it could have been great.

We (people on XDA) are not " VAST majority of consumers " and this poll is not for them intended. We are power users and like every other individual, we share our thougts and answer to a question: HTC or Samsung G. Edition?
If I wan't a lectures, I will go to school (been there done that).
Either way, Samsung G. Edition for me, HTC have too many hardware flaws, for my taste.

HTC One have enormos unused space, button layout is odd and repairability is very low.
As for you Samy, just remove hardware button and game on
I bought the HTC One Dev which should arrive this Tuesday after such a long backorder... I am thinking about returning it and waiting for the Google edition. Would not ever own any Samsung device until they start taking design lessons from ASUS/HTC or their TV designers and start using non-plastic.
EDIT: And for those crying about no SD card... do you really need more than 64GB that comes with the Dev Edition HTC One? Come on, stop watching HD porn in your phone.
I chosed the HTC. More resistant, and I want to try this constructor
Sorry for my bad English, I'm French.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus.
I would go for the HTC I think, mainly because of the design and build quality...
