Just wondering, since iOS is a much more closed echosystem. Do they get forcecloses (or whatever they call them) with their apps.
Recently I've gotten a few forceclose when trying to use the Navigate app. It annoyed me, since this is a google product running on a google phone. Just had me wondering if iPhone has same issues?

Really? I think your Navigate app sent you to the wrong forum?
I used to have an iPhone. I had about the same number of force closes on it as I have my skyrocket which is to say very few.
My android tablet however gets a ton of force closes. I suppose it depends on which android device.

Obviously being on a ICS leak the past month one would expect more FC but I will say my iPhone did have less issues with apps crashing on a whole. But some apps would have issues. I would say apple tends to have issues more with individual apps than general issues like I get with Droid. One is really not better than the other in this case. As usual, its more of the app programmers than the OS that will cause these issues.

The apps crash every now and then, but I attributed it to jailbreak tweaks. I can't remember it ever really crashing when it was stock. Maybe once or twice.
A good deal of force closes are caused by the user. No properly knowing how to use the device. And there are ways to fix force closes. Unless its an actuall problem with an app. Just invloves some reading
I had a friend whose first gen iphone froze up completely and he had to wait for the battery to die before he could use it again.
I'm on stock Rogers ROM (I'm not even rooted). And I've gotten forcecloses for trying to go to the home screen (home.android), navigate app, the dialer once or twice force closed, the SMS app. These are suppose to be the stable core apps, I was just surprised that they forceclosed.
I was just curious if iOS had the same problems for their core apps?
iOS apps don't throw an error on the screen when they have a problem, they simply close. Apple likes a polite crash instead of supplying a useful message stating the app you have might be a pile of crap.
You would be shocked at how many iPhone users don't realize just how often their apps die.
I hear a lot of them brush it off as them accidentally hitting the home button or something similar. That's when I give my signature response... "It crashed you moron."
My wife has an iPhone 4 and she was shocked when I pointed out that her apps had in fact crashed.
Sheep will be sheep I guess.

More like 4 phones (3G, 3GS, 4 and 4S), two different screen resolutions and 3 major versions of iOS.
Some people still use a 3G and a lot of people still have a 3GS, myself included.
Apps are not 100% compatible between them and the 3G only supports iOS 3.1.3 and below.
The 3GS runs 5.1, but it's slow as mud.

One phone or four phones. I was being sarcastic saying one. They are still closed source crap operating systems. My point is that its harder to make an app on android than apple, because of the variations of Android devices.

mehh..
almost imposable to brick your phone.. you can for sure mess something up, but there are soo many ways to get into recovery mode to install another rom, install a different rom, or even go back to stock.
not to mention, Google made Android open source for a reason, so that people can mess with what they want.
anyways, i have tried lots of 2.2 roms, and I am glad i have, since Samsung will take too long to update to 2.2 on their own. can't wait for 2.3 and even more battery saving.
Best froyo rom for me its Ddpj6 Doc.03 no bugs at all with themes addons.

As usual check to make sure what storage the app is installed on. I am having some issue with my Audiogalaxy widget personally. I never told it to do so, but it installed the app on my internal "memory card" as opposed to on the phone. Move it if you have to.
Try restart after that, and if it still isn't working, try removing and reinstalling.

well he tweeted it. he didnt say in progress, he simply said he was looking through the infuse source code... and then said the infuse would get the voodoo treatment. first sound, then lagfix. dont expect it this week or next. or even next month. it might come that fast but it might not. he got a sgs2 and may be sidetracked with that, also he is heavily involved with new stuff for voodoo sound, maybe we will get squeezed in to this next voodoo sound release, maybe the one after.
is anyone who is having trouble using apps to sd? that is known to cause disapearing widgets. the sgs's have ample storage for apps. i dont know why people insist on moving them to the sd. maybe they have a fast sd card but the phone doesnt need much. embedded os is kinda designed to do minimal i/o.
I had the same issues with widgets deleting. I had to uninstall and reinstall from market to get the going again.
I should have said this first, my issues only started after rooting. But then again I only had the phone for about 10 mins before rooting it.
got rid of it already though as I have an sgs2 on the way.

I had the same problem of Widgets Disappearing, mainly after reboots.
In my case, the culprit was that the applications were automatically installed in the Internal SD (16gb one) of the phone instead of its flash memory... The end result was that when the phone booted up, looked for the widgets /before/ it had finished mounting and scanning the Internal & External SDs, causing the OS to simply removing the Widgets since it could no longer find them.
Try checking on Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> <Problematic App / Widget> (And if available) -> Move to Phone
Reboot and they should stop disappearing.
This totally works. Using go launcher and unrooted Infuse 4G. Both Grooveshark and audible widgets now stay active in the widgets menu.

I can confirm this. I think the main issue is, is that we are using software that was never intended for a dual core processor so the end result is random reboots, lag when downloading apps, etc. Even the Sensation which has a dual core processor has its share of software glitches/issues. Let's hope that when Ice Cream Sandwich (Google's next update with dual core processor support) comes out that we'll either automatically get the update from LG/T-Mobile or LG/Nvidia will release the necessary drivers and/or files to the XDA community.

Sorry for the misunderstanding the phone is fine when downloading, but whenever its doing an install for whatever reason it gets unresponsive or extremely laggy for a short second. Try downloading something from the market and then when it starts to install browse the web and see what it does. This is definitely not a major or a minor issue for me since it does this for only a quick second.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Ok, so if you go to market and then go to myapps...and there's like 12 things that need to be updated...and you start clicking one by one, update, ok, update, ok, etc...you never feel any hiccup of lag when it's at the install phase of any of those?
I feel this all of the time. Especially when I use CM's market apps installer that defaults after installing a new nightly...when I have almost all of them checkmarked, then it takes me to the market page for each one of them individually. And it has nothing at all to do with internet connection or speed, because it's the same whether I'm using my 6MBps 4g, or my 36MBps wifi at home. Sometimes, the hiccup will even make me click the wrong button by accident.
my pc,6 core amd, 6 gigs ram, sometimes becomes sluggish while installing graphic card drivers etc. i wouldn't put too much thought into it. it usually takes about 5 seconds to install an app.

Its not the download that causes the phone to be slow. When you're installing an app, the processor is being used and it will slow down the phone, especially when you're updating/installing multiple apps. My g1, droid, captivate, and g2x have done this. My ipod touch did it too.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I find that this only happens when installing an app from the google market. When installing apk's from any other source it seems to be fine.
Also as a note, after updating to the new google app i have noticed that it doesnt slow down anymore. It might be me, but i think its just the old market app.

Your welcome and check out the link below. Even Qualcomm, the company who has designed processor chips for phones such as the myTouch 4g, HTC Sensation, Evo 3d etc. also agrees with my statement about the software not being supported for dual core processors. That's why some of you may have noticed that your previous 1ghz single core phone was either just as fast as these dual core phones or even faster in day to day use. For instance my myTouch 4g (when rooted with Faux Aosp build clocked at stock 1ghz) and Stock Nexus felt just as fast as the G2x when opening and closing apps and even scrolling through the browser (the myTouch 4g scrolled through the browser just as smooth as the G2x, but the Nexus S did not).

I've had my One S for about a week now, coming from a Nexus S. I was pretty blessed with the vanilla updates, but was excited to use the best yet Sense 4. But one of the few gripes I have about this stock ROM is that when I click youtube, instagram or other links that have their own apps, I have no option to "complete action using..." And it kicks me to the web browser every time.
Have you noticed this? If you have, have you found a solution? Or a workaround at least?

This fix worked for me, in that it allowed me to open links to the market through webpages. However, it seems to create a new problem -- it breaks QR code scanners...
Looks like this may be happening on all HTC phones: http://androidforums.com/htc-thunderbolt/550016-app-associations-screwed-my-phone-up.html. From what I have read, this is due to the Apple lawsuit. Given that the lawsuit only dealt with US users, I wonder if European versions are having this problem.

Yeah, I started that thread over on Android forums.
I'm kinda glad to see that I'm not the only one having these problems.
I'm running a Thunderbolt. Just got the update (both my wife and I).
Now both of ours are having this problem.
I've searched and finally narrowed it down to the new App Associations section.
I don't think it has anything to do with which browser is used.
It just now forces all 'Web URLs' to use the browser as opposed to an installed app.
I don't know how extensive this is, and who all is going to be affected by it, but it's definitely a major issue. It destroyed the usability of this phone.
I'm can't root my wife's or my own phone. There's got to be a work around. Or they've got to be releasing a revised update. This couldn't have been done on purpose. The phone worked beautifully before, integrating all the apps that I had. Now everything I do is screwed up. Nothing is working how it's supposed to.
If it's any help...I have an HTC Thunderbolt through Verizon. Stock Rom.
Is this new App Association thing affecting all Androids? Is it something that was updated across the board, or only on specific devices/ or specific carriers? I've been banging my head against a wall trying to figure this all out for the last three days, and it seems like no one knows what I'm talking about, and my posts are invisible. I've been going crazy.

Looks like HTC got sued, so those of us in the US with an HTC product got screwed.
They are avoiding legal issues, be removing an Apple Patented process for detection of things which can open apps that are installed on the phone.
Without this, the phone is junk to me. It makes it wholly unusable and takes literally at least 3-4 times longer to complete my tasks.

There's not going to be an unrooted work around. You have some choices, but they all require you to learn to live with it, root, or get a different phone.
I am an angry consumer, and I punish companies that screw with me by not doing business with them, and encouraging others to avoid then as well. I've also been known to fire off an angry letter, or phone call to the offending party. Apple isn't worried about you or me, so that's wasted effort in this case. What's left is punishing HTC by not buying their products, but it's too late in both our cases, so basically call or write them telling them to "fu***ng pay Apple for the patent license and fix our phones". This App Associations bs ain't cutting it to keep us happy. Like you I don't want to root, but I think it may be the only way, unless a ****-ton of us tell HTC to fix it, it's going to stay the same.

If your custom rom is euro based, this makes sense. They were not part of the trademark infringement case brought by those idiots at Apple, so they don't have the app management workaround that is causing all the problems.
Does your custom rom have signal problems? As I recall, that was an issue being reported by tmous customers who tried some of the euro roms.

Yes, its euro based. I went with it because of the app association. Well I've been using it for a while now and I have no problems with it. I've read about a "data bug" but have no problems with signal or using the mobile data.

I can't get this to work for me, I have tried renaming and deleting, nothing works.
anyone else getting this little popup: "Billing is not supported on this version of android market"
this mostly came up while using the EA scrabble app (laced with ads), but then it came up again while on Firefox.
it's not causing any problems for my phone, just hoping that it is not app trying to send out info to a third party.

I have been getting this message for the last couple weeks. Coincidentally, over the last two weeks my phone battery has been miserable. I just came on here to see whether there has possibly been a connection between any apps, this message, and poor battery performance.
Have you noticed a reduction in battery life in your phone as well? Or perhaps could the two issues I'm seeing be unrelated?

not sure, but I would not be surprised. I'm speculating that it has to do with whatever version of android market we are running and what is setup in the build.prop.... but just speculations....
Are you guys on Tweaked or something? It works fine for me on stock.

Huh - sort of at a loss for what would cause this then. Perhaps its confined to certain apps/sites?

I dunna know.... so far, no popup yet on the released version of tweaked...
Ok...I just got this same popup on my Rezound on CM9 when I was just sitting at my home screen. Whatever it is, it isn't specific to a particular phone or app. I wonder if there's some kind of a glitch on the latest Play Store causing it.
I had it happen te me today as well..
While I was playing a game..
Weird ....
I think your right ..
Playstore ..

I had these toast messages pop up very frequently after installing this game. It would pop up regardless if the game was running or not, so it must be a service that is running in the background.
After I uninstalled the game I see no more of these annoying messages.

So I'm actually using the VZW Galaxy Nexus but I thought I would mention that I'm seeing the same thing. It tends to happen when I'm using the stock Browser... but not Chrome. I'm using CM10, and did not see this with stock or with Ascent. I was thinking it had to do with forcing Wallet onto my "unsupported device", which I didn't do until after my CM10 install. Hopefully that info helps in some way.
So, I just noticed this today on my EVO LTE. But after a recent wipe, I only have two paid apps on it: EA's Monopoly Millionaire and Zynga's Drop 7. And I've made absolutely ZERO in app payments.
I looked in aLogcat and it says "com.android.vending / com.google.finsky.billing.iab.MarketBillingService" keep crashing and restarting.
I'm on an HTC EVO LTE running Viper4G ROM 2.0.2 with Android Market / Google Play Store version 3.10.9

It has nothing to do with the user end, it's the developers end. When they packaged their app and signed it, they forgot to sign it in release mode.
I have the same problem with My Country Online. It appears so often like every five seconds or so. The only way is to stop the app via app manager. Any ideas for a permanent fix?
