here's the working by the developers
http://youtu.be/WkJ8jeWb0V0
you can remotely switch on wifi via sms even see call sms log record voice....
so this app is the beloved one to track your lost device and have it in your sight to make sure no one gets their hands on your loved droid
heres the description as in the google play
Cerberus helps you get back your lost or stolen Android device.
Cerberus is a complete anti-theft application, the best protection you can get to recover your misplaced, lost or stolen Android device. This is a free trial for one week, then you can buy a lifetime license for a small price (2.99€) from within the application: no monthly or yearly fees, just a one-time payment. License is associated to your Cerberus account, if you have multiple devices you can use all of them (up to 5) with the same account.
It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code
- Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!
Cerberus automatically enables GPS if it is off when you try to localize your device (only on Android < 2.3.3) and you can protect it from unauthorized uninstalling - more info in the app configuration.
The app works even if the device does not have an internet connection thanks to remote control by sms messages. Also, the SIM Checker feature allows you to know the new number to send texts to, if the SIM card is changed. Texts received and sent for Cerberus remote control will not start any notification and will not appear in the Messages application.
Cerberus does not drain the battery because there is no background service running: it will activate only if there is a remote control request and will stop afterwards.
More features for rooted devices: complete uninstall protection (a thief will be able to delete Cerberus only by flashing another ROM), GPS auto-enabling even on Android > 2.3.3. More info on the website in the Help section.
If you already bought SIM Checker Pro you can have Cerberus at a discounted price, contact us for information.
Have any questions, issues or feature requests? Contact us at [email protected] and we'll be glad to answer!

True .... !!

one thing's certain
if you lose a phone in india, it's almost impossible to get it back... GPS, anti-theft and all doesn't matter if the other guy doesnt want to give it back.

TextHer - P2P serverless messaging app for Android

Today I am launching TextHer app which enables users of android phone to communicate privately and securely between them.
TextHer
It is a peer to peer (serverless) messaging app where the messages are directly sent from one phone to another without being routed through or stored on any servers.Messages will be not be routed through carrier's server instead it will be directly sent from one phone to another using data connection.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spacenext.texther
Sending a message:
To send a message to another phone just type the primary gmail address of the phone,type your message and send it.
For example my phone's primary account is [email protected],Just type the mail address or just the account name(ramanean) and send a message
Features
1.No Registration is required and Free unlimited messages.
2.Secure/Instant communication between any two individuals
3.Instant Delivery of messages (unless the other phone doesn't have a working data connection)
4.Messages are not stored on any servers.they are stored only on your phones.
5."Background Send" option which allows a delivery of messages incase of a failure.
6.Messages are encrypted by AES standards
This app would make it difficult for law enforcement and spy agencies to track what is being communicated between two phones as the messages sent are encrypted by a standard AES algorithm and the messages are not stored on any server.It allows secure communication between two phones without the fear of being tracked for their messages.
Serverless:
It's not entirely serverless as we store the ips on our server and give it to the clients which enables phones to connect with each other. And I have plans to come out with another version which would never involve a server.
I hope I would get a constructive review on your site.Please let me know whether you need any extra information

a) This app won't be available in certain countries in the Middle East and south East Asia!
b) There is too much of snooping around and that's why I have come out with this app
c) On other hand it would help organizations like Occupy Wall Street and people in their protests.It would great help in free speech
MY answer to others who question my app!
Why do you need a intermediate person to message/communicate your loved one? Whether we use a third person to communicate with our loved ones inside our house? The answer is No.. and that is the reason I have come out with this app.
Okay here's what I discovered after a bit of goofing around:
1) You use app for a few minutes and it is impossible to get out. Pressing back keeps bringing you back to previous screen. In a loop.
2) I tried messaging myself. Didn't work.
3) I tried messaging on ramaean. App not installed
4) When I tried messaging to shangce, it force-closed on me.
5) You need to have a more consistent UI. You have used all the colors in rainbow
I don't want to come off as a ****, but if someone wanted to use an app for truly private communication I think they should be asking the following questions:
Could you describe in detail what happens to the text from the time you press Send to when the recipient's phone beeps?
How do we know your servers aren't logging our messages?
Why should we use your app instead of an encryption app?
Please don't take this as an insult to your app or hard work, but they are legitimate concerns for any security related app. I would be much more comfortable if there was an encryption feature.
You got some of the points wrong
a)My mail ID is [email protected] and not "ramnean" (use ramanean)
b)You can click on the home button in the bottom help menu to come out
c)I won't reveal from my that mail address "shangce"
d)I don't know which provider you are using.l
This app will not work if the phone has internal IP's!!
UI :
I need to work a big on UI As I always choose colors wrong

a) I used the correct id. there was a typo in above message. Anyway, this isn't a deal-breaker.
b) I should still be able to come out of an app by pressing back button. Don't you think?
c) Didn't get you.
d) It works after disabling WiFi. My bad.
e) You can try a two-colour theme.
Can someone post the app here? Can't download it as I am in the middle east

What's the version of Android you are using?
Ok, so is this still a "NO" for us in the Middle East? Will you post the apk file here or will I have to wait till I get back to India later this month to download it?
Is there some reasoning for barring people based on location? Am pretty sure that:
a) A terrorist is neither in our midst nor that one would be wandering around in the xda forums looking for something they could use.
b) If they are aware of a software such as this they could always get one of their partners in crime to download it from an off site location and mail it to them.
Hope that you will post it here.
Thanks

Remember that the app works only for external ip's it doesn't work for natted ip's (I am trying to fix it)
Send a message to yourself to see that whether it works for you! If you didn't get your own message then it won't work for you as you may on a natted/internal IP
Nice idea, flawed execution. No functionality in any of my tests. Currently attempt to use Redact instead.

[APP][FREE][Non-root] USSD vulnerability fix

Hi XDA's !
I made a quite simple, small and free app that will help you to fix the recent showed USSD/MMI vulnerability which affects many android devices.
For reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2-0B04HPhs
Most Samsung phones are fixed to data wipe (there's not reported MMI command for HTCs), but still MANY Android devices are vulnerable to MMI commands including PIN code change ones, that can block your SIM card, after executing MMI command for PIN change more than 10 times with wrong PIN (for example malicious URL with 10 frames with PIN change instruction).
Please follow the installation instructions below:
1. Check if your phone is vulnerable - open your mobile browser and navigate to: http://goo.gl/4IWgL (or use the barcode below)
2. If your phone is vulnerable you will see your IMEI number displayed.
This means that service MMI commands can be executed on your phone, when you visit a malicious web page. The MMI commands are service commands, and if you see the IMEI it doesn't mean that your phone is vulnerable to the Samsungs data wipe vulnerability. BUT an attacker can still block your SIM card issuing a MMI string to change your PIN code more than 10 times. Finally your SIM card will be blocked.
3. If DON'T see the IMEI number, you are safe and you don't need this app
4. If you see a popup with your IMEI number, then install this app from Google Play (click on install button on the the left).
5. Once you install the app navigate again to: http://goo.gl/4IWgL (or use the barcode below)
6. Your phone will ask you how to complete the action. Choose USSDFix and mark it as default for this action.
7. You will see a notification that your phone tries to open a page that contains a USSD call and will block it.
8. Your phone is safe now !

* No background processes
* No services in memory
* No ads
* Hidden launcher
Use this barcode to test your phone:
NOTE: The app uses a hidden launcher and will not appear in the list of the other apps on your phone desktop. If you want to remove the program, please navigate to Settings / Manage Applications and then remove "USSDfix" app.
The app is available on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antispycell.ussdfix

First it handles calls from browser like "tel:", then it checks for * and %23 (#) in the dialed string.
Are the HTC's vulnerable too? and the Sense 4?
Unfortunately some HTC's are. You can test yours using the URL provided in the thread (or using the barcode scanner).

The problem is that if you open a malicious URL in your browser, the browser can send a USSD command tothe dialer to factory reset your phone.
I hope that they will fix this soon, but if you are vulnerable and cannot update your phone you are at risk.
well my sensation is a culprit of it too ..unfortunately
i tested the app and its working perfectly well ...so SENSATION USERS GO AHEAD AND USE THIS APP
BTW voted for PORTAL .... lot of people should know this vulnerability and the fix for it

Edit: Btw I used the vulnerability of the xda app to thank you.. As I'm out of thanks for today lol

see at the end you should kinda prevent browser to give control of using phone ...thats what this app does ..its like a firewall ..which checks the code before giving the command to the phone ..if you bypass the firewall itself ..how can you expect it to prevent using phone
its like you bought an anti-virus for your PC ...installed it ..but then DISABLED it ..and claiming it not working
get the point now ?

[APP] Easy Contact Sync

Hey everyone,
then next app BETA is finished "Easy Contact Sync".
Based on my last app "Easy App Toolbox", I created this new app for handling your contacts.
Contacts are saved as VCARDs (*.vcf files). This way they can easily be used in any other application that can handle VCARDs.
Feature List:
* Backup/Restore to/from Dropbox
* Backup/Restore to/from Google Drive
* Backup/Restore to/from Box.net
* Backup/Restore to/from SD card
* Auto Sync (automatically backup all contacts every night at 0:00)
* Directly send/share one or multiple contacts
I'm really looking forward to your feedback!
The app is available at the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.goddchen.android.easycontactsync
as well as via QR code

The app uses a freemium model again: free selection limit: 3 contacts at a time, auto-sync is also available via in-app purchase. As you are used to, you can freely choose how much you want to pay!

Does this app maintain the quality of the contact photos?
I've added photos from my SD card for higher resolution as it looks better during incoming/outgoing calls. Would love to be able to restore contacts without having to manually update the pictures!
can this back up my facebook contacts?coz only in htc sence it syncs fb phone numbers and i want to try cm in my phone but will lose my fb contacts numbers
I wanted to know what the major difference is between this app and the google contacts? dont they both automatically sync my contact info.. ???
I'm not sure if this is already supported but if it dosent i want to make a suggestion for a feature ...
I've synced my contacts from google account(phone numbers) and facebook and linkedin and twitter... And manually put them together so each one matches the appropriate contact.. but every time i flash a rom i loose this data.. can you make sure that the links that are mainted are reestablished when i install a new rom and reinstallt the apps and sync my contacts so they atutomatically stich themselves back together.. ????

I've added photos from my SD card for higher resolution as it looks better during incoming/outgoing calls. Would love to be able to restore contacts without having to manually update the pictures!

In the current beta version, photos are not restored. But it is on the TODO list.

Hm, haven't checked this out yet. Give it a try and sync one of your facebook contacts. Then check out the generated vcf file.

Does your google contacts get synced to dropbox, box, or drive? or sync your contacts with google when you don't have a data connection?
I will check out the merging logic and if it can be backed up. Thanks for the suggestion

Heya... very nice app
I read about it today morning and want to test it immediatelly. After 2 mins of testing I bought the premium version right off. Exactly what I'm looking for.
The app and backup itself with DropBox works great on my Galaxy Note II.
Some whishes for the Future if possible:
- SD-Card-Backup takes only the internal card. It will be great if I can select the external SD-Card too
- It will be nice if I have an overview about activated tasks (what - when - where)
- It will be a nice feature if I can change the time and intervall of backup
Thank you for this amazing app.

It currently takes the default "external storage" returned by the Android SDK. But it's a good idea to add a setting for customizing the output folder Added to the TODO list
Well currently auto-backup is always scheduled to run at midnight. In the current situation, it is enough to display an on/off state of the feature. But adding customized scheduling is a nice idea, definitely on the TODO list and with that, of course, any overview about the scheduled backups

Awesome,
yes there were some guys that rated 1 star without giving any explanation in the comment. I have already contacted those guys via G+ but normally those guys won't respond. And therefore I cannot do anything about the causes of their 1-star ratings...
I have also experienced in the past that developers of competing apps and their friends are giving 1-star ratings to all competitors... that's very sad

This actions are very sad...
But also I think - at the end - quality, functinality, and especially the direct right contact between developer and enduser and finally the great idea of Android wins ... I hope so and I trust that

1. No select all even after getting premium? REALLY? I have 300+ contacts and am not going to select them all one by one.
2. All cloud options fail. Nothing ever comes up about logging into them for the backup = constant FAILED TO UPLOAD errors.
3. After upgrading to premium why should i still see the button advertising for other apps? Completely out of the question.
4. Get rid of the dumb "how do you like this app" at the bottom. Unnecessary.
5. Add custom backup/restore path selection for backup to sd card and even cloud backups.
6. A settings option is a great invention that allows someone to configure all sorts of things and is an integral part of 99.9% of apps out there, yet this app lacks one.
I rated very poorly in the store along with a review until some of these features (most are no brainers imo) are added/fixed.
AW: [APP] Easy Contact Sync
Year... thats is typically for XDA for a lot of month ago....
every new app with potential will be rated poor or very poor at first...
In my opinion this is primary a discrimination on all the new apps and developers... Could this be the sence of rating? I don't think so... and this could not be the right way...
I have installed many apps which are rated poor or very poor. In any case at the moment I'm shure that these apps are one of the best.
In these days you can only read - especially the descriptions of developers - read and read... and than at least it is your decision if you install an app or not. In most cases developers describe exactly what an app can do and what not.
And than developers get an poor rating because not supporting an feature that never been discussed.
Thats crazy... thats real crazy... I'm very sad about this... I'm sorry... we all have got a great tool named Android in this case... and I'm shure too... these actions are not similar with the spirit of Android !!!

[APP][4.0+][SMS App] Emu Messenger Beta

Emu Messenger Beta is an SMS app for Android which allows you to share your location with anyone and get messages re-sent at a later moment, for example when you get home.
Download by pointing your Android at http://emu.is/download
(Direct Download for those in regions without Play Store access.)
Marco? Polo! Look for magic buttons on messages like, "Where are you?" Tap to send a map of your location – that updates as you move around.
Sometimes you get a message at the wrong time. Remember to take out the trash! Pay the rent when you get home! Emu has the answer, with Yo-yo. Swipe across a message and have it re-sent to yourself when you get home, to work, when you get up in the morning, or when you leave wherever you are.
Push to Talk: Running late? Hands full? Press and hold anywhere in a chat, then speak to send a message. There is no step three.
It all works over SMS/MMS, just use it instead of your built in Messages app, so no need to invite all your friends.
Send us your feedback to [email protected] and especially if you'd like to join our labs program to get a sneak preview of some nifty upcoming features.

Very Nice!!!
Definitely one of my favorite messaging apps. I love the ease and functionalities. It's a breath of fresh air from the typical SMS app.. The tutorial is awesome. How do I get my messages to transition like that?:laugh: I'm not a big fan of peach, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. Any chance for off-line voice typing? And how do I get in on the alpha testing?

I've been working with the OP on this app and really believe that it provides functionality beyond existing messaging apps. My personal favorite feature is being able to resend message when I get to home or work. This has saved me multiple times from forgetting things.
Hello
i can't install it...it says device is not compatible.
I have a galaxy s3 with android 4.1.2

Thanks
Suggestion:
Needs at least basic theming ability. Chat bubbles and maybe a few color changing abilities.
Perhaps the ability to change 'yoyo' times. I get to work at 7. Ability to create the gps coordinates for Home and Work and/or other to effectively use yoyo in different scenarios.
Really liking the clean simple interface. Although the colors are a bit... not to my preference or mismatches my themes, it is very simple UI.

A way to delete individual text and not entire thread would be nice.
How do i access the 'alpha' features? (obtain code)

Thanks for the great feedback, keep it coming. A few responses in the interim:
Re the yo-yo times, it should automatically detect your work and home location (might take 24-48 hours for a full cycle) at which point the times should go away; let me know if that doesn't happen for you.
Good point re deleting individual messages.
Ability to cancel speech message? Absolutely! Stay tuned
Email us at [email protected] to get access to labs.
I looked at the XDA beta testers community and it didn't seem that active, perhaps we're talking about two different things? Do you have a link?
Themes - point taken, we'll mull on it.
Fantastic. Thanks for the quick response.
One issue with the work detection. (I've raised this on a few apps regarding location awareness) I'm a general contractor and I'm usually bounching between several different locations throughout my day. If just a specific time set or perhaps a yoyo to 'Set specific time'. This would make a good work around. I get dozens of text per day that I'd like to re-text me. I've been using Google Keep but its getting chaotic inside the app. I was using a reminders notification app (notif pro) but I need my notifications for emails and other stuff. Great idea. I'm really liking the concept.

Still Loving It
I ditched the other messaging apps for this one and have been very happy with it. :good: It's light weight and I love the off-line voice typing. No more having to search for a keyboard that uses Google's offline voice typing. I also love the alpha features. So far I've only run across two. But I'm not sure if these are really them or if they had already been there all along and I've just now found them. lol. One thing though, I work 2nd shift and the time options for when I get home or when I get to work does not correspond with my work schedule. Would it be possible to provide and option to change this? Keep up the good work. Thanks.

First of all, thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like the app.
Is the app not detecting your home and work automatically? It should shift from a time-based offering to location based once it has detected where you live and work, but if it isn't doing that it's a bug we need to look into.

This "media server" thing is getting ridiculous

I know there have been several threads on this already.
However, today for me it came to a truly ridiculous level.
I had charged fully and unplugged my phone before going to sleep.
Didn't use it this morning.
Now, this morning, I open it up and it's under half battery.
I click the battery in settings and this is what I see:
{

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This was overnight. Nothing running. Just this f***ing media server eating all the battery.
There has to be a solution. Besides rebooting the phone every day.
I don't want to root the phone purely to solve this. Because I know if I do root there are ways to auto kill it and such. But I'd much prefer to keep it unrooted as I have no other need of root and it just seems... excessive.
Can anyone offer any advice? This is nothing to do with media players or whatever. I have no media files on my phone. Only use it for web browsing and games occasionally. The media server is just ...broken. I'm at a loss here, please, contribute your superior knowledge.
Thanks in advance.
I was having that mediaserver wake lock problem also. After rebooting twice a day for a couple days I finally figured out it was due to touch sounds being on. Once I turned touch sounds off I've been getting pretty good battery life with excellent standby.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I've never had touch sounds or lock screen sounds enabled. I checked again and they're off.
Any other ideas?
Media server is a process gg on to keep scanning for the pictures in ur phone. There is a way to disable it and will not harm ur fone. The app is called "Rescan Media Root" u can download it in google play. Open it and press disable. Most of the time the pics will still appear in gallery. If any recent pics u taken in ur camera or anything else is not in ur gallery, just go back to the app and enable it. Wait for arnd 5 mins and disable again.

It might be helpful to use an app like Clean Master, SD Maid or similar to nuke your browser and app caches to see if that helps. Sometimes the caches contain media files, and if any of them are corrupted for whatever reason the Media Server is apt to get stuck on them which can cause battery drain.
Tats why i said to use the rescan media root app from google play. It will disable to media server. But yeah its always best to clear the cache anyway for storage space. I use clean master and cleared over 7 gb in total for a few months.

It will wipe his data because his bootloader isn't unlocked.
@DryEagle
The cache cleaner is a good recommendation. But I suspect you have a rogue app running that should not be running. I think that cleaning program has a task manager also. You should be able to find the source of the issue with that.
Get BetterBatteryStats also.

Technically root won't wipe his phone but the chances of him having a unlocked phone and not adding root are slim.
You can try helium backup as I think it will do a local data only backup without root but honestly never tried it without root and have not read the Google play page in ages.
I can understand your desire to not less with root or unlocking but this is a good example of why a lot of people do. As it stands now without root you have few options to kill the rouge process or even figure out what that process is. Without root the only real choice your left with is factory reset but that will wipe your data. With root you can at least make a backup however unlocking your boot loader now will still wipe your phone.
Try better battery stats and see if that works without root (you can get it here on XDA) and if so it might help you at least figure out what app or process is forcing media to be such a battery drain.

Do you have Google Music installed? If so, try deleting it and see if that helps.
I have found that Google Music keeps running in the background, even if I never opened it.
I am rooted and froze Google Music, and the media server thing hardly ever shows up in battery stats now.

I use Google Music frequently, but on days when I don't use it Media Server takes hardly any battery.
OP - BBB should work without root for some features. I'd download that and give it a whack to see if you can identify the culprit. Might turn out to be something really random.
thanks for all the info guys; in the end i just bit the bullet and rooted the phone (figured might aswell do it sooner rather than later) so now i of course don't have this problems anymore ^^
