[APP][4.0+][SMS App] Emu Messenger Beta - Android Apps and Games

Emu Messenger Beta is an SMS app for Android which allows you to share your location with anyone and get messages re-sent at a later moment, for example when you get home.
Download by pointing your Android at http://emu.is/download
(Direct Download for those in regions without Play Store access.)
Marco? Polo! Look for magic buttons on messages like, "Where are you?" Tap to send a map of your location – that updates as you move around.
Sometimes you get a message at the wrong time. Remember to take out the trash! Pay the rent when you get home! Emu has the answer, with Yo-yo. Swipe across a message and have it re-sent to yourself when you get home, to work, when you get up in the morning, or when you leave wherever you are.
Push to Talk: Running late? Hands full? Press and hold anywhere in a chat, then speak to send a message. There is no step three.
It all works over SMS/MMS, just use it instead of your built in Messages app, so no need to invite all your friends.
Send us your feedback to [email protected] and especially if you'd like to join our labs program to get a sneak preview of some nifty upcoming features.

Very Nice!!!
Definitely one of my favorite messaging apps. I love the ease and functionalities. It's a breath of fresh air from the typical SMS app.. The tutorial is awesome. How do I get my messages to transition like that? I'm not a big fan of peach, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. Any chance for off-line voice typing? And how do I get in on the alpha testing?

I've been working with the OP on this app and really believe that it provides functionality beyond existing messaging apps. My personal favorite feature is being able to resend message when I get to home or work. This has saved me multiple times from forgetting things.

Hello
i can't install it...it says device is not compatible.
I have a galaxy s3 with android 4.1.2
and i'm from germany...is the location the problem?
Thanks

Suggestion:
Needs at least basic theming ability. Chat bubbles and maybe a few color changing abilities.
Perhaps the ability to change 'yoyo' times. I get to work at 7. Ability to create the gps coordinates for Home and Work and/or other to effectively use yoyo in different scenarios.
Really liking the clean simple interface. Although the colors are a bit... not to my preference or mismatches my themes, it is very simple UI.

The marcopolo, slightly confused. Is it constantly updating my gps to them for 30 mins? Is there a way to shut it down? It doesn't request to turn on gps if its off.
A way to delete individual text and not entire thread would be nice.
How do i access the 'alpha' features? (obtain code)
Perhaps a feedback link inside the app.

When doing voice to text, option to cancel with a timer before sending or ability to see txt prior to sending where send button is required. This will prevent me from being a post on 'Damnyouautocorrect.com'...

Thanks for the great feedback, keep it coming. A few responses in the interim:
Re the yo-yo times, it should automatically detect your work and home location (might take 24-48 hours for a full cycle) at which point the times should go away; let me know if that doesn't happen for you.
Good point re deleting individual messages.
Ability to cancel speech message? Absolutely! Stay tuned
Email us at [email protected] to get access to labs.
I looked at the XDA beta testers community and it didn't seem that active, perhaps we're talking about two different things? Do you have a link?
Themes - point taken, we'll mull on it.

Fantastic. Thanks for the quick response.
One issue with the work detection. (I've raised this on a few apps regarding location awareness) I'm a general contractor and I'm usually bounching between several different locations throughout my day. If just a specific time set or perhaps a yoyo to 'Set specific time'. This would make a good work around. I get dozens of text per day that I'd like to re-text me. I've been using Google Keep but its getting chaotic inside the app. I was using a reminders notification app (notif pro) but I need my notifications for emails and other stuff. Great idea. I'm really liking the concept.

Yes, the Xda beta thingy on there isn't super active but the very few teaters there are very thorough and look for bugs/errors. They go beyond the use it as you would usage. Just a thought to ponder.
Will email for alpha code. Hope to get in.

Should alpha features be discussed here or via email?

Couldn't download, its says Incompatible with my devices (P990 using CM10.1). Does it's about country restriction ? I'm from Indonesia

Still Loving It
I ditched the other messaging apps for this one and have been very happy with it. :good: It's light weight and I love the off-line voice typing. No more having to search for a keyboard that uses Google's offline voice typing. I also love the alpha features. So far I've only run across two. But I'm not sure if these are really them or if they had already been there all along and I've just now found them. lol. One thing though, I work 2nd shift and the time options for when I get home or when I get to work does not correspond with my work schedule. Would it be possible to provide and option to change this? Keep up the good work. Thanks.

First of all, thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like the app.
Is the app not detecting your home and work automatically? It should shift from a time-based offering to location based once it has detected where you live and work, but if it isn't doing that it's a bug we need to look into.

Very nice app. I go to a couple of websites to see device specs, separated by a lot of categories. All in one is always better, especially in an app. Something more I would like for this app is the ability to "favorite" devices and have them in a favorites list. Great app, nonetheless
Edit: Noticed the 1.5Beta 2 weeks later -_- Just updated and loving the favorite and compare features. Thanks again for this app

I get the same on mine. SE Xperia X10 on Gingerbread.
I think it's better to remove the SMS/call functionality from your application, because there are a lot of people(including me) not installing the application because of those permissions.
If you use this:
Code:
startActivity(new Intent(ACTION_DIAL, Uri.parse("tel:6365551212")));
With this you don't need the permission to make calls, and the dialer will be started with the phone number pre-loaded, so the user only needs to press the Call button.
And for sending SMS messages you can use this guide, which also uses intents.
Then you don't need SMS/call permissions, but the user can still call/text when he needs in your application.
This is simply astonishing. Great work. Although I have an Evo 3D and won't be moving from it at any time soon, I know a few Hero owners who could do with this App to see what they should upgrade to.

Yes, the user will be able to see the advertisers number. But I think your sent SMS is in the SMS-app of the user, so he always will be able to see the advertisers number, although I'm not sure.
Can you post the apk?
It doesn't show up in the Market on my phone. I can click a link that will open it in the Market but it doesn't give me the option to download it. And when I try installing through the Market on a pc it says it's not compatible with my device.

http://youtu.be/WkJ8jeWb0V0
you can remotely switch on wifi via sms even see call sms log record voice....
so this app is the beloved one to track your lost device and have it in your sight to make sure no one gets their hands on your loved droid
heres the description as in the google play
Cerberus helps you get back your lost or stolen Android device.
Cerberus is a complete anti-theft application, the best protection you can get to recover your misplaced, lost or stolen Android device. This is a free trial for one week, then you can buy a lifetime license for a small price (2.99€) from within the application: no monthly or yearly fees, just a one-time payment. License is associated to your Cerberus account, if you have multiple devices you can use all of them (up to 5) with the same account.
It has three ways to protect your device:
- Remote control through the website www.cerberusapp.com
- Remote control via text messages
- SIM Checker (for devices that have a SIM card): you will automatically receive alerts if someone uses your phone with an unauthorized SIM card
Remote control allows you to perform many operations on your device, like:
- Locate and track it
- Start a loud alarm, even if the device is set to silent mode
- Wipe the internal memory and the SD card
- Hide Cerberus from the app drawer
- Lock the device with a code
- Record audio from the microphone
- Get a list of last calls sent and received
- Get information about network and operator the device is connected to
- And much more!
Cerberus automatically enables GPS if it is off when you try to localize your device (only on Android < 2.3.3) and you can protect it from unauthorized uninstalling - more info in the app configuration.
The app works even if the device does not have an internet connection thanks to remote control by sms messages. Also, the SIM Checker feature allows you to know the new number to send texts to, if the SIM card is changed. Texts received and sent for Cerberus remote control will not start any notification and will not appear in the Messages application.
Cerberus does not drain the battery because there is no background service running: it will activate only if there is a remote control request and will stop afterwards.
More features for rooted devices: complete uninstall protection (a thief will be able to delete Cerberus only by flashing another ROM), GPS auto-enabling even on Android > 2.3.3. More info on the website in the Help section.
If you already bought SIM Checker Pro you can have Cerberus at a discounted price, contact us for information.

TextHer - P2P serverless messaging app for Android

Today I am launching TextHer app which enables users of android phone to communicate privately and securely between them.
TextHer
It is a peer to peer (serverless) messaging app where the messages are directly sent from one phone to another without being routed through or stored on any servers.Messages will be not be routed through carrier's server instead it will be directly sent from one phone to another using data connection.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spacenext.texther
Sending a message:
To send a message to another phone just type the primary gmail address of the phone, type your message and send it.
For example my phone's primary account is [email protected],Just type the mail address or just the account name(ramanean) and send a message
Features
1.No Registration is required and Free unlimited messages.
2.Secure/Instant communication between any two individuals
3.Instant Delivery of messages (unless the other phone doesn't have a working data connection)
4.Messages are not stored on any servers.they are stored only on your phones.
5."Background Send" option which allows a delivery of messages incase of a failure.
6.Messages are encrypted by AES standards
This app would make it difficult for law enforcement and spy agencies to track what is being communicated between two phones as the messages sent are encrypted by a standard AES algorithm and the messages are not stored on any server. It allows secure communication between two phones without the fear of being tracked for their messages.
Serverless:
It's not entirely serverless as we store the ips on our server and give it to the clients which enables phones to connect with each other. And I have plans to come out with another version which would never involve a server.
I hope I would get a constructive review on your site. Please let me know whether you need any extra information

a) This app won't be available in certain countries in the Middle East and south East Asia!
b) There is too much of snooping around and that's why I have come out with this app
c) On other hand it would help organizations like Occupy Wall Street and people in their protests. It would great help in free speech
MY answer to others who question my app!
Why do you need a intermediate person to message/communicate your loved one? Whether we use a third person to communicate with our loved ones inside our house? The answer is No.. and that is the reason I have come out with this app.
Okay here's what I discovered after a bit of goofing around:
1) You use app for a few minutes and it is impossible to get out. Pressing back keeps bringing you back to previous screen. In a loop.
2) I tried messaging myself. Didn't work.
3) I tried messaging on ramaean. App not installed
4) When I tried messaging to shangce, it force-closed on me.
5) You need to have a more consistent UI. You have used all the colors in rainbow
I don't want to come off as a ****, but if someone wanted to use an app for truly private communication I think they should be asking the following questions:
Could you describe in detail what happens to the text from the time you press Send to when the recipient's phone beeps?
How do we know your servers aren't logging our messages?
Why should we use your app instead of an encryption app?
Please don't take this as an insult to your app or hard work, but they are legitimate concerns for any security related app. I would be much more comfortable if there was an encryption feature.
You got some of the points wrong
a)My mail ID is [email protected] and not "ramnean" (use ramanean)
b)You can click on the home button in the bottom help menu to come out
c)I won't reveal from my that mail address "shangce"
d)I don't know which provider you are using.l
This app will not work if the phone has internal IP's!!
UI :
I need to work a big on UI As I always choose colors wrong

a) I used the correct id. there was a typo in above message. Anyway, this isn't a deal-breaker.
b) I should still be able to come out of an app by pressing back button. Don't you think?
c) Didn't get you.
d) It works after disabling WiFi. My bad.
e) You can try a two-colour theme.
Can someone post the app here? Can't download it as I am in the middle east

Ok, so is this still a "NO" for us in the Middle East? Will you post the apk file here or will I have to wait till I get back to India later this month to download it?
Is there some reasoning for barring people based on location? Am pretty sure that:
a) A terrorist is neither in our midst nor that one would be wandering around in the xda forums looking for something they could use.
b) If they are aware of a software such as this they could always get one of their partners in crime to download it from an off site location and mail it to them.
Hope that you will post it here.
Thanks

Remember that the app works only for external ip's it doesn't work for natted ip's (I am trying to fix it)
Send a message to yourself to see that whether it works for you! If you didn't get your own message then it won't work for you as you may on a natted/internal IP
Nice idea, flawed execution. No functionality in any of my tests. Currently attempt to use Redact instead.

[APP][1.6+] Sms Replier - Need Feedback

Hey, I recently released an app to Google Play and was wondering if you guys could help me out to test it and to give me feedback!
The app is called Sms Replier and it's a tool that can be used to send texts to people who call you while you're unable to get to your phone to answer(while you're in an exam, or playing a game of soccer, etc.). I know this idea has been done before, but I want to know whether you think it's worth it for me to keep working on it so as to add features which have not been done in any other app. Please let me know how well it performs/what things I should change about it, and please rate it on Google Play!
I am excited to get some real criticism from android users so that I can continue to make this app what I originally set out for it to be!
The app is completely free! Thank you in advance.
I like it! Simple, but I would love a widget.
If you are lazy: here's a link to the download:

Hey. Can the app send sms at a specific time? For example set it to send an sms to a contact at 2pm and when the clock becomes 2pm it sends the sms. Cz I'm looking for such a feature.
Also it would be great if the above could work on whatsapp too. Thanks

Try SMS scheduler from the play store

what would be good is to have either a widget to toggle on / off, permanent notification to enable access to the menu, or an idle / activity monitor like if phone left idle for x minutes then enable it; as soon as there's human activity then de-activate it (could be linked to the auto screen dim/off).
A very nice app, very useful for businesses. Out Of Office Reply
A great start! I would also like to add some suggestions (some may be repeats).
1. Widgets that you can add to turn on and off selected notifications.
2. Auto respond based on a pre-determined schedule.
3. Auto start on startup option (for scheduled events).
4. # appears over icon to notify user how many messages were replied to while away (like mail or missed call icon).
Keep up the great work!

as bigdog said those are very essential to complete this app.
first time i installed the app.. i was really surprised to see its simplicity really awesome
i would like to add some suggestions and doubts from mine sides too even though they may be repeated
some brainstorming got me to bring up these elements
1. sometimes there can just be miss calls.. you can add up timer like (send sms before ringer, on one ring, on two rings, or like if didnt pick the call at all will send an sms)
2. a status bar indicating that the sms replier with number of sms sent. [a widget would also be helpful]
3. then you can add some templates or profiles like driving, in class or let users create their profiles or templates.
4. there is one more thing that u can get access of contacts and just disconnect the unknown numbers[ofcourse getting the notification with number at our end] and donot sent them a reply in order to maintain the privacy and not let the unknown numbers know what you are upto.
5. and if i may add a option.. a counter to be set to ring if a same person is trying to call for more than two three times or in case of emergency
i will add more when it comes ...
Would be great if it could work on whatsapp!
The difference is that you don't need to click the template to send it when you're receiving the call. It sends automatically when a missed call is recorded. Sorry to assume, but it doesn't seem like you actually tried using the app at all.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
@saredev, does your app have feature that can exclude certain numbers from auto responding but they are in the contacts list. For example, notifications banks or credit card companies. These companies don't need to receive auto-response. I think you might have to check the number when it arrives whether it's a phone number or shortcode before auto-response. Or include a list of numbers from auto-response.

Stylus Write app... One to rule them all?

I just fell in love. Was checking out Papyrus android app because much as I like Lecture Note and S-note they both Can get on my last nerve. I stumbled across what bills itself as a "stylus based wordprocessor". It's called Stylus Write... watched the video demo of Papyrus in Play Store then stumbled across a Stylus Write video... I was instantly smitten. Here is that video:
I think that shows how powerful a tool an active stylus can be. Hope it gives the OP more insight and options.
Best of all the app is FREE!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.styluslabs.write
Obviously this is based on a very brief interaction, maybe 30mins, so before the net nitpickers decend, lighten up. these things take time but I 'm hoping a few folks have tried it already & can add their take comparing to other options.
I was leaning to switching to Papyrus but it just did not feel like a good fit for me. Know what I mean? Some apps just don't feel right to you. Write, however, appeals to me on some visceral level.
EDIT
Found the twitter feed for Stylus Labs:

yes it does support palm rejection with automatic pen dection. There are also quite a few options to control input.

After playing with this app a bit. And it's excellent. I can't compare to the win, Linux, Mac versions but the Android version seems stable. I get a sense the android version maybe the least mature port. There are features not yet present but the dev seems to be actively improving all versions.
There is no HWR → typeface conversion so all notes are saved d diplayed as hand written.
It could use TAGS though it does have BOOKMARKS which seem a quite powerful tool when paired with HTML link support.
Something I find interesting is notes are in HTML format using vector (SVG) to gen the content. If you haven't visited the website take a peek as the whole site is handwritten. That makes for a different look.
Because Write also lets you add HTML links it would be easy to build quite a complex cross-referenced note system--- well as long as you can keep the links updated and in your head. But how great would it be to wireframe (or even a production) sites with natural writing and stylus?
Best way to learn it is to just watch the brief and concise YouTube video. Pretty much everything is in that video.
Basically it's definitely an evolving app. I think there are more than enough features now to make this worthy of being your"daily driver" note taker app. And for sure worth at least an install even if just to use now and then.
Oh, I don't remember seeing ANY ads. Now that makes it even better.

Glad so many are liking this one. Like I posted earlier it was just one of those app which " feels" right out of the gate. Of course I've run into expected features absent but given there are other more mature versions confidence & patience should be rewarded. Well have you tried?
The file output is HTML with graphics as SVG (vector) but for direct sharing with Evernote not sure since Evernote does not support handwritten input directly but their Stitcher is commonly used to get that style notes into Evernote.
EDIT:
Not an Evernote fan or user but the only way I see is to select → copy to Scrapbook then attach that as a file. best info I can offer but one reason I don't use Evernote are things like this along with a few other issues when it was new.

Hi, I'm the developer of Write. Unfortunately, the pen button isn't working on Samsung devices. It appears I can get it to work by integrating the S-Pen SDK, which I hope to do in the next major update.
I will subscribe to this thread, so please feel free to post any other comments or issues.

Is there a way to import notes from Lecture Notes? This would allow me to switch to this app, but I haven't been able to figure out how to import existing notebooks.
Also, how can you back up notes to the external sdcard and to the cloud. Can we use something like dropsync?
PS: the eraser end of the 8pi pen does work. Just not the side button.

This is also a feature I'm very interested in. Using bookmarks / tags one could come up with a hand-written wiki system, which I would find very! interesting. With just some more functions (like being able to, e.g., select some text and having the option to create a link from this text to a new document, which one could then edit), this could be really powerful. Maybe it's already possible now, I've only played with this app fro some minutes, but reading through some notes and then clicking on a link / bookmark to open another note would be really great.

I like some things in this app, i.e. you can move the text easily and fast, the space insertion, the bookmarks, or the curious undo tool (even if sometimes is too fast), but I miss important options like using the keyboard to add text, shapes insertions, and I think the option to change the pen size is too hidden to be used as often as I am using it, it should be easier to find it. I hope the developer will consider this to future versions of this good app, t.y.
