Please post the manufacture date of your phone if you have NOT have the problems
Please post the fix if you have had the problems but did something that remedied it!
I got mine on 5/27. It rebooted spontaneously a couple of times in the first two days. However it has been working flawlessly for several days now. Not sure what happened. Knocking on the wood.

I have had my device for 3 weeks and yesterday I had to pull the battery for the first time due to the phone not coming back on. Today I lost signal out of the blue, and couldn't search for networks. Had to reboot the device.
I want to root the device and install one of the custom gingerbread roms but if I need to warranty this thing I want it stock.

I'm using gingerbread roms so its hard for me to comment here. But I have not had many issues even with these roms. Mu build date is may 9 iirc
I did however exchange my battery. I have done a couple of battery pulls but mostly due to rom issues and that has been very rare. I don't consider a battery pull to be a problem unless its once a day or more. I have had the device about a week.

You can revert it back to stock

Dated 4/11, stock and unrooted. No reboots, lockups or anything of the sort.
I just used this phone outdoors in direct sunlight. I mean straight on as direct as it can be bright sunshine, and the display was easily visible even just set on auto. I can live with a little light bleed along the edges on a screen that works this well otherwise.
This phone is fast too...
ETA: This is my original and only G2x, no exchanges. I guess I got relatively lucky.
Only two "random" reboots in a little over a month (both occurred shortly after plugging into my laptops USB to charge).
Got mine on 4/20. No reboots ever.

Bingo. Makes me forget the sensation even exists.

<SIGH> My better judgement be damned, I just picked up a 4th G2x - dated May 13th... Hoping I have better luck with it...
No reboots our issues, build date 4/25/11..
Best phone around imo... Except sgs2 maybe.lol
All of the above daily! Most unreliable device I've ever had.
never had this problem at all build date 3/31
I seldom have this problem (3 times so far from the date I purchase).
Stock rooted ROM.

Actually that's not bad - I've had PCs reboot on their own more often than that, brand new even!
2 days old - 3 reboots
I've had this phone for 3 days, and I've seen it reboot 3 times.... Very concerned about this.
No problems, 4/14/2011
I think mine has rebooted by itself twice in almost a month. It also froze once and I had to do a battery pull.
Aside from that, no problems at all. I'm really happy and count myself lucky that I've never had to replace my unit *knock on wood*

...
It's about time a poll was made about this. I just hope that once and for all this matter gets concentrated in a single thread. I hope this thread gets a sticky until the the G2x issues are resolved or have come to a sufficient conclusion (I'm not so optimistic about T-mo after the Vibrant).
Getting a 4th replacement sometime tomorrow according to T-mo & UPS, just to note. I'll spare the details and update my post when I have more time. =X
On Stock ROM (Rooted) it rebooted every time I used the stock web browser.
On AOSP ROM 1.2.0 (slows.... 40 sec pause/freeze) on the stock browser
I'm still on AOSP for now. Just crashed on me again, but it happens when I web surf on the browser.
Its annoying but hoping this crap gets better. I swear buyer's remorse every time I think about how unstable this phone is.
Just got my third G2x from T-Mobile. I'm running LauncherPro. I must have done something wrong because I backed up to SD card but after installing new phone it gave me an error reading SD card. I had to reset everything!
Anyway, I got a 2nd replacement (this is number 3 phone) because the 2nd one continued to have the random reboot issues.
This one is different from the other two. The icons in the top bar are smaller and the GPS signal button is different. Could this be an upgraded software?
It states Android 2.3.3, kernel version 2.6.32.9 and Software version LG-P999-V21e
Trouble is, this phone is way worse than either of the first two! I think only 1 reboot so far (1 day) but 3 times now after the phone sleeps I have to remove battery to turn it back on! And it will not allow me to mount the phone as a USB. Sometimes the message appears to turn on USB but it will not work. Touching the screen does nothing. Then the screens start to rapidly change.
Looking like number 4!
What other programs have you installed? These types of issues are almost always apps and not the OS or the hardware. The fact you are having similar problems with three phones seems to indicate that even more. Stop blaming the device and figure out what you are doing to it to screw it up.
Try installing the GB drivers to your computer via LG. That's what I had to do to get my phone to mount.

I agree. "I went through 8 G2x's and all of them did the same thing after I restored my backup..."
Also, get off the stock firmware as it is absolutely unstable (Sleep of Death (SOD) and resets). I've been running MIUI since mid-August and haven't had 1 reset or SoD. Most CM7 nightly builds are good but a few will cause issues. Look at the stable version of CM7 or Weapon.

The stock Gingerbread firmware is absolutely rock solid. I have been running it since it was released and have had zero problems. The only change to the system is that I rooted it. If I install an app that gives me the slightest trouble I uninstall it immediately. There is nothing wrong with the GB rom as LG delivered it. The Froyo rom did have problems, but the GB rom is very good. Many of the custom roms are based on it and just have hacks and tweaks. Very few are compiled from source like CM is.
Update to Phone
First, let me say that T-Mobile Customer Service is great! Every time I call or visit the store they are friendly and try their best to help me.
I called T-Mobile and explained the issues on this phone, as one person wrote above the "SOD". She walked me through a bunch of steps, and I'm fine with that, I understand she has to be sure i have done all the typical troubleshooting. She confirmed that the new one had GB.
She is sending phone number 4 out today. Meanwhile she said go by the store to have them check the battery, just in case. I did that, it was kind of funny. Gal says, no need to test it, I'll just grab a new one. She comes back and inserts new battery, "There ya go, brand new battery". Ah, Miss, I say, it won't turn on now. "No, that can't be, its a new battery". She finally went and got me yet another new battery!
Hopefully this 4th phone will do the trick.
As for the apps, maybe I do need to uninstall some, but it seems like what I have are all mainstream apps:
Launcherpro
Beautiful Widgets
Touchdown Pro
Pure Calendar
Juice Defender
Batter Monitor Widget (free edition)
All of the above are paid apps too, not free versions (except Battery Monitor).
Any thoughts, known issues on these?
Thanks!
All those are pretty common apps, none of which I've had trouble with. Juice defender has been a cause of connectivity, etc issues for some people, but works fine on all my devices.
If I were you I would ***** until they replaced it with a Sensation, Amaze, SGS2, etc. I've seen so many people with 3,4,5,6 replacements on this board....why? As much as I like the form factor, the G2x is not worth 4 replacements. NO product is worth 4 replacements. Needing to have a product replaced is one thing, having to replace the replacement, or more, is ridiculous. Fool me once....
At what point do you say, "wow screw this POS." 4 replacements is a company jacking you around. I got lucky with a mostly mint G2x on launch day. Had it had issues I would have replaced it, beyond that..... the G2x is a nice phone, but there is absolutely zilch nada NOTHING special enough about it to deserve 4 replacements.
I don't mean to sound like a douche or harsh or anything. I just don't get why this is a recurring theme on this board. Would you do this with a pair of jeans, or with a TV, or with tires? No. The product sucked the first time, why repeat the experience?
I hear ya Adamhart. On the phone with CS today I asked this very question. She said I was not eligible for a different pone ... yet. She indicated that x number of returns within 90 days usually trips the option. First sign of trouble on number 4 and I will be calling. When the phone is working I like it, but I'd happily trade it for something else.
Thanks for the note on Juice Defender, I noticed on another thread some issues so for the moment I have it turned off.
Fouth Phone Arrived
So number 4 arrived next day. I set it up. Such a pain to have to reinstall everything. So far all is good. The battery life is not improved but one day later with no reboots and it starts up without a problem (no sleep of death!).
So far so good.....
I' ve been using an extended battery for a few months now and its been great. No reboots or SOD issues.
Couple of weeks ago I insert the stock battery. Within the hour I have 1 freeze up and 3 SOD! That stock battery is defective. Its been the cause of 80% of my problems with this device.
4th phone has same problems. Already posted a rant! I'm going to try rooting!
You know I never had a problem with my g2x and I see all these people going thru 3-6 phones THANK GOD I'm not on that statics.

And I see mostly the ones who have problems don't usually nvflash cwm and install a custom rom.

I broke my last one (slammed it on concrete) so got a replacement through Asurion, they sent me a refurb (as they tend to do).
thing worked well for the first day, albeit a bit weak on battery, then started having charge issues and general mis-reporting on the battery (it'd say 100% when it meant 20%, around 5 hours after being unplugged it would drop very steeply (~75%) to catch up)
I noticed on the 1809#*999# menu that the Factory Version was registering as Unknown. After a few more days of it being a pain in the ass I went ahead and did a Factory Reset. After which the Factory Version reported the correct numbers.
Works almost flawlessly now, I'm getting a good 30 hours of battery life out of the thing (mostly texting + standby). I'm currently using the default launcher with Go Contacts and Go SMS (It sucks Go Contacts can't clear missed calls properly on 2.3.3 but it's a minor complaint), Facebook, Battery Monitor Widget (3c), and a few other small apps.
Also, I noticed on my first phone that JuiceDefender seemed to cause Sleep of Death issues. At least thats what the process of elimination had me believe (and this was back on Froyo). IMO - just leave everything alone with regards to task killers and battery enhancers, GB actually does a very good job of battery management on its own.
I continued to have trouble with number 4. Called T-Mo. Long story short they said "nothing we can do until LG comes out with new software update".
Phone is just not useable the way it is (mine that is) so I finally followed the advice of so many on this board and I rooted the phone and installed CM7.
I was a little freaked out a first because CM7 looks so different. Now I am comfortable with it. I have loaded up all the apps and configurations again. So far it is good. A couple of times the phone shut down but that may be more to all the changes I have been doing. One the whole it is far more stable than stock. Battery life is a tad improved too, but still not great.
My mom is about to embark on her third try. She doesn't download apps at all. Phone won't hold call for more than a minute.
Within around the last two weeks, my Inspire 4g has been randomly shutting itself off. Not rebooting, just plain and simple off just like i had done a battery pull. I have flashed a few ROM's, but the all seem to have no effect. It seems to do it very excessively whilst Im at my house where I dont have very good reception (Have to out it in a window to text or call) almost rendering it useless, but only occasionally while Im out and about with good signal. I'm not sure if this is due to an undervolted kernel that has happened to be on every ROM ive tried, or if its a radio issue. I would really appreciate any thoughts! Im currently running Virtuous Unity, and my radio is 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M
You definitely need to update your radio. Try using 26.10.04.03. This is the gingerbread radio made for our phones. I think vu has the ril for 26.13.04.19, but either will work. Also make sure there is no overclock set as some phones can't hang. The undervolting could cause issues but not likely. You would see a lot more people with the same issue and you don't.
Well I succesfully installed the radio you suggested, but it was to no avail. It is still having the same exact problem. It only rebooted twice today while I was in school and had strong signal. But now that Im home, its going mad again. Ive noticed that if its left plugged in it wont tend to shutoff nearly as much, like when i have signal. Im pretty puzzled, and dont want to have to purchase a new phone. Im thinking of reverting back to the stock unrooted ROM and seeing if I still experience any issues.
Maybe your battery is failing and not delivering the right voltage. It would make sense that when the phone is on battery and has to do a full work load that it just crashes. PCs do the same thing when their power supply is going bad. Either that or the board. You could unroot and then reroot wiping your sd card too just to rule out software.
I just unrooted and am now back to stock GB ROM, and im still getting reboots. I installed about 20 mins ago, and have had 3 shutoffs. It looks like I may be ordering a new battery soon and if all else fails, looks like ill get to have some target practice! lol I just cant figure why it isnt doing it so bad when I have a good signal. I spent a weekend with a friend, had service the whole time, and didnt experience a single shutoff! It has just gotten so terrible within the last few days, i cant even use my phone at my house anymore!
I also just noticed that when i try to take a picture or video, it crashes. It may be the battery, since the camera uses a lot of battery. Hopefully that's my issue!
I have usually found random shutdowns or restarts to be due to a memory leak or a bad battery. I haven't seen anyone posting about a memory leak. I would bet it is the battery.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
Well Im about to go see if my local att store has a battery for it in stock. If they do, Ill see how it works and report back!
Mine was shutting off in my pocket at work. At the same time my sim card was going bad and would also randomly show the "restart phone or shutdown" msg. Finally replaced the sim and it stopped both problems so far.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using Tapatalk
I think my phone has done that once before, but only like twice at the most. If the battery isnt the problem, ill try the sim. Ill have my brother put his sim in my phone and see if he gets the same results before i order a battery since my local att store doesnt carry any batteries and Id like a solution asap.
Well it turns out it was my battery after all! Really glad it wasnt anything major! I popped my buddy's battery in my phone, and shes running like a dream!
Thank you for your posts. I have been having a similar problem and I thought it was something I had done. I will get an upgraded battery and try that. This was very helpful for me.
Tom
I thought for sure it was going to be something that would require a new phone! Im waiting on my new battery in the mail. It should arrive tomorrow, and ill be back in business!
Hi All,
I've been having a number of problems over the past few weeks with my OnePlus One, not quite sure what to do so I thought I would ask here for any advice.
Overall my major problems:
High CPU usage (and therefore high phone/CPU temp to the point of needing to turn off because of overheating)
High battery drain (and the battery will not last 5 hours even on sleep)
messages take between 1 ~2 minutes of hanging to send.
Phone randomly waking in sleep (contributing to the battery problem?)
I've looked into it a bit, I've disabled the Google Play Services from waking in sleep, cut down and uninstalled most apps. I've let it drain completely and left it off for 1 hour before charging to full and turning it on. I've tried to do everything people have suggested and nothing so far has worked.
My Phone Build:
Completely Stock CM12.1-YOG4PAS1N0 [Installed through OTA]
Kernel version 3.4.67 - untouched
Never rooted (I've been lazy), no custom rom, nothing touched in bootloader
Always kept safe, no damage, no water damage
I am thinking of doing a factory reset to see if that solves the issue, right now just looking on a way to backup all of my sms/app data (since I can't even titanium because it's not rooted) [All suggestions welcome if you have any good backup software/app that I can use on unrooted phone]. I do suspect a possible virus, hence the want to factory reset, especially about the messages taking so long.
Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance.
Happy to provide battery log or anything if necessary.
Thanks!
Hey there,
I'm so tired of talking about this topic that I can barely work up the determination to write this response. I'll give it a go though and I'll try to keep it short, simple and leave as much emotion of as possible.
So I've had my phone 10 months now. It seemed great at first but it wasn't long before I started seeing cracks (not literally). It began with the battery, or lack thereof. These days it's much worse but even back then it was noticeable worse than any other phone I had owned in the past. I first reported this issue... 6 months ago.
I'll leave that to sink in a little, before telling you that even now my issues are still not solved and I am having to take OnePlus to Trading Standards and receive third party consultation and legal advice.
So six months I have complained and begged them to solve my problem. And in that time my phone has gotten significantly worse.
It exhibits the EXACT same problems as yours. Down to the last note.
The battery... *sigh* Oh the battery. It now lasts around 1 hour of heavy use, 2-3 of moderate use and a bit more otherwise. Even if I leave it completely alone I have to charge two to three times in a 24 hour period.
The CPU seems to be randomly throttling. Performance from app to app will be vastly different.
The heat that comes off this thing is obscene. At times I literally cannot touch the face of the phone or the camera lens they are so hot. (I remember recording some temps once at 47 degrees centigrade).
My messages generally either send or don't. Or maybe I don't wait long enough. I just usually copy the text and resend anyway.
I have issues with my touch screen responding. Funny I never had these or never noticed them when everyone was shouting about it. Now they've released a fix I have them.
Some Wifi networks do not work, they get stuck forever "Connecting".
The phone no longer rings, vibrates or gives any indication of incoming calls. Sometimes it'll pop-up on screen, sometimes there will be literally no indication even on screen except that my phone wakes itself up to the homescreen and then minutes later tells me I have a voicemail (which also has no notification sound/vibration)
As it is I have finally, just this last month been offered an RMA... YES that's right, it's taken them six months to own up to an issue and offer me that which is stated in my warranty and within my rights.
Unfortunately, for them, it is no longer good enough. I have applied to my bank to forcefully remove the money from them and return it to me. That is being decided with the evidence I have, by my bank at the moment.
After that, the ball is in their court and I am free of them as far as I am concerned.
I wasted so much time and breath on emailing and tweeting them and getting no responses, stock responses, blanket responses, repeated verification processes, remote flashing of Oxygen OS to my phone by an engineer (which has brought up more problems, mainly being that Lollipop and Oxygen OS especially are godawful) and general deflection and delay tactics.
They are one the most disgusting companies I have ever had the displeasure of trusting, purchasing from and dealing with.
I hope one day, they go bust and I never have to hear of them again.
Sincere apologies for my vitriol but it is not unwarranted or untrue and I cannot abide. I am extremely sorry you are dealing with the same issues, you are the first I have heard to have the exact same concoction as me. I'm afraid we may have defective (and dangerously so maybe) devices from the factory line, but no one will own up to it.
Hi there,
Have something that botheres me for a while.
My daughter's S7 started overheating not long ago and it seems to get worse every day.
Random reboots every few hours. I was next to her whrn watching a live stream and the video stopped and the audio glitched (buzzzzzzz) just before the phone restarted again. Is this the end or a software reboot can fix that? Or probably a new battery?
Still using the original software version. There has never been unlocked or installed a custom build. Of course its out of warranty long time ago.
Thanks for your help in advance.

I wouldn't worry, it'll probably explode while you're asleep taking the whole neighbourhood with it.
So the answer is, as device firmware is updated so are the apps you use, which demand ever more CPU resource and battery power. This will be the primary cause of the excessive battery drain and hence extra heat on an older model. Of course there's the fact that eventually a rechargable battery will start behaving crazy the older it gets. They are only supposed to function correctly for 500 recharge cycles, after that all manner of craziness happens.
A temp fix would be to check the firmware is the lastest version which goes someway to correct these issues, but eventually nothing will remove the need for a battery change or new phone i'm afraid. Like most electronics they simply arent build to last.
You could also flash a custom ROM and only have the apps you want but that's a different conversation.
Thanks for the reply ?.
I guess you're right. Its like trying to run a compatible game on an old PC while using the video and cpu on their maximum capacity all the time.
I'll look for a light custom rom. Done that many times to some of my older phones so I think I'll manage to install one. Thanks again for the above
