[Q] Need help in choosing an android phone... - General Questions and Answers

Hi friends,
I want to buy an android phone and my budget is at max Rs 17000 INR. I am currently considering two phones, xperia neo v and xperia ray. I need a phone with a decent camera capable of hd video recording. The problem is that neo v does not have Exmor R sensor. On the other hand the xperia ray does not have automatic flash which is a big minus for me. I don't like the idea of turning on the flash light manually before taking a picture in low light. Now if i choose not to turn on the flash light manually on xperia ray and on the other hand if i have neo v that flashes the light automatically, which phone performs better in low light. In nutshell what is more effective Exmor R without flash light or a phone with no Exmor R but an automatic flash light?
I also tried looking at HTC phones but couldn't understand how good their cameras are. I need a phone that has front facing camera as well. Also, i read somewhere that sony phone cameras suffer from image compression issues. I have never got a chance to test the recent sony phones myself so i really don't know about their camera qualities.
My previous phone was a nokia 6220 classic, equipped with 5MP camera with xenon flash and carl zeiss lens and was pretty decent for taking pictures. Unfortunately it died a couple of days back.
Please help.........

I have a Sony Xperia Neo V its camera quality and video quality is very good even it doesnt have Exmor sensor. You should buy Sony Xeperia Neo V. Xperia Ray screen size is not big and it got finger prints on it and they are so visible and because of that phone's screen looks so poor. There is also a phone which has recently launched for Rs.18000 is HTC One V It has a great camera than Neo V. You can choose a phone between Neo V and One V. And according to my recommendation you can buy HTC One V.

Thanks for replying. I have one more question about neo v. It has just 320 mb internal memory available for user. What i have read is that by default all applications in android are installed on internal memory. Isn't 320 mb too low for that? By default, not all applications can be moved to sd card. I have read that there are some ways of installing apps by default on sd card like rooting and using link2sd. Also there is ADB for installing apps on sd card. But rooting voids warranty i guess. Also, someone said that if you transfer apps from internal memory to sd card, sometimes the entire app is not moved, just some portion of it. You can't use widgets for applications installed on sd card.
Is there any simple method of managing memory? What i would like to do is keep internal memory untouched and install everything on sd card by default. Also, can we free some more internal memory by uninstalling stock apps?
I would also like to know about gaming performance of the phone, can it handle heavy titles? What kind of games can we play on it?

Omnia vs. Xperia

I am going to get either the Xperia or the Omnia, the only question is which. I would like opinions from others please.
Thanks in advance.
Personally I'd choose Touch Pro.
it really depend on if you want a keyboard or not as on xperia got one
and higher screen res but lower mpixel cam
but some rumors say that xperia may not get released untill feb 2009
FYI...here's the so called official omnia thread for info:

Thanks for the info galaxys
the camera - Samsung cameras (on phones) are never as good as Sony Ericsson or even LG. Even the G800 with it's so-called 'optical zoom' is rubbish.
Last Christmas I had a LG Viewty, Sony Ericsson K850i and Samsung G800. The K850i camera was much better, even better than the N95 camera.
And yes, I know how to use a camera, and what exposure and focus to use.
The 16 gb version of the Omnia is only being released in the US.
xperia hands down

But Xperia will be produced by HTC. Then we do not know if it will have a great Sony Ericsson's CCD matrix or poor HTC's CMOS matrix. There is no point in this discussion until we see any pictures taken by it.
hm?
comparison at theunwired

What ? Which source mention this ? How do you know that Xperia will be under HTC development? Did SE joined forces with HTC on Xperia platform ?
Check this out about camera and picture quality among these phones : http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=289
Xperia will be availiable in Sweden since mid of October.
I vote for the HD definetly!
the 16 gig omnia was on orange but im not sure if it still is
i have it
the camera is **** hot
Sony the one and only...
when my Uni dies,(not any time soon) i will probably look at the X1 as long as Sony supports this phone it should be pretty good. I'm not a fan of sliders but I have to have a key board the TV out is also a cool feature and who knows maybe a mini Blue-Ray recorder, lol,. Dual expansion slots would've helped since I have a bunch of Memory-sticks collecting dust
i have both omnia n xperia and i must say,omnia kick xperia's ass big time...why u ask?? here's why...
*note:comparison are based on out of box experience.
1)accelerometer based applications + games rules,
2)camera rules,camera features like face detection,smile detection,mutiple scenery mode,lanscape mode,business card scanner,5mp still can zoom in(xperia 3mp but cannot zoom,only can zoom at 2mp settings & below)
3)samsung provide on going official firmware update
4)"end user" provide on going custom firmware update
5)omnia code like *#0002*28346# allow volume cuztomisation. So far there's no such code for xperia volume hack yet.but i could be wrong
6)built in 8gb or 16gb memory.(dun even need a micro sd card anymore)
7)omnia widget is far more useful compare to xperia panel(especially the stupid fish panel)
8)Taking pics with xperia is a pain!! camera shutter speed is too slow.really need a super steady hand to take decent pics or else pics will blurr!!
well, these are my personal experience with both phones.....cheers...sorry for bad english.. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
thx al3xband for the comments.. I still struggling between xperia and omnia. Prefer Xperia coz it is from SE, have keyboard but the price too exp. Now wonder if I shall get a white color Omnia from Singtelshop...

now sony xperia e3 d2212 has a root method avalible so i think sony xperia e3 is best it has all you need and memory problem is solveable with root using foldermount or swaping.
You can look at LG G3 S (D722 in my country; single SIM with LTE; in Europe it's LG G3 Beat) - this is the phone I after all bought at the end. I wanted and still want E3 for its design.
But for only $60 more you get
1. 8Gb ROM with 4Gb free
2. 5 inch screen 720x1280 with the same dimensions of the device (except it's 2mm thicker, which is no pain) - no huge bazels like in E3
3. Better back camera and MUCH better front camera
4. Sligtly better battery
5. Knockcode and double tap to on/off the screen (just a handy feature, not really an asset, but still)
6. Working root solution without any unlocking any bootloader whatsoever.
7. Has better mic and better internal speaker (relevant, since its primary function is the phone; I am speaking from experience - I tested E3)
Downside: LG doesn't have light sensor, but brightness "slider" is just there - in the notification bar; and no "soft touch" covering and no rubber angles.
The rest is just the same: it has a LED notification light, LTE, same CPU, same RAM, same amount of embedded stock ****, NFC and bloody-blah. It's basically E3, improved (except the body).

About buying an M2

Hi, I am an owner of an Xperia L.
I want to buy a Xperia M2 and I want to ask some questions
1) I have read many bad things about the camera. Is it really that worse?
2) How long can the battery last with mobile Data and Wi-Fi activated?
3) Any other pros or contras?
Thank you in advance.
Macmol
1. Front camera is very bad, considering it's a VGA camera. Rear camera's only good after Kitkat update
2. It can last you a full day of work ( at least that's my impression )
3. Pros: Root is possible on both JB and KK; CM11 is coming ( maybe CM12 aka Android L ). Cons: low resolution screen ( isn't even HD, but that helps the battery life of 2300mAh ); the back of the phone needs protection from fingerprints; low internal storage ( 4GBs usable ); RAM problem ( only 1GB )
If I miss something please correct me
Today I'm gonna take a Xperia M2, so, I reserved this topic (which I'll edit later to make my opinion with the phone in my hands).
But, I have a topic created by me which has a discussion about Xperia M2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/general/device-moto-g-lte-xperia-m2-t2885938
There is it.
Regards!
Edit: Now I have the Xperia M2 (D2306 Model), and, everything went too fine. Processor, apps, Data Transmission, but, the only thing that makes me get depressed was the camera (Rear and Front). I tried to update to 4.4.2 KitKat but my phone says that the updates are up to date. So, there isn't any update KitKat for my smartphone. Any ideas to get updated? Thanks btw.
According to me:
1. Front camera is bad (of course) but I never use it. Rear camera is solid after the KitKat upgrade, no more black grains in the photos when zoomed. It is now completely satisfactory.
2. It lasts me full two days of work, using all the regular phone and social apps and a bit of (simple) gaming too. I have to say that I have all push notifications turned off, and I am using Greenify with Xposed framework in Boost mode. The battery is the best of any smartphone I have handled in the last 3 years.
3. Rooting is very easy on KitKat, and CM11 should not be far down the road. The phone works very well and is very responsive with the stock firmware too. CWM is available since a few days ago.
4. The screen is not HD, but is perfectly OK for the web, reading, playing games etc. This is a big plus for the battery life.
5. The front screen tends to have fingerprints. It is wise to protect the back with some type of a casing, as it can be scratched easily.
Everything in hand, price/performance, the M2 is a very good choice for a regular user.

Z3 Camera Issues

Hi peeps,
I am not sure about you guys, but I am very happy abt Z3 camera and its features, I came from Z1 and the camera is good too!
I notice some did mention or some of my friends saying Sony camera suck and that the Z3 camera is not as good as samsung s3 or other brands bah bah bah....
But I asked, what Sony phones are you conparing with and what are the camera or display settings of the Z3 phones. Then I reliased the following issues
1) Some are using Xperia Z ultra to compare with Samsung S3. Z ultra only have 8 MP and no ISO settings so if u want to use a mid range camera to fight with a higher range phone who will lose out? Just like I used a 20MP Z3 with the same setting I will surely win...
He also mention the Z ultra camera pic cannot tell the color difference between white and yellowish white but when I took the same pic, with my Z3, he was shocked....
2) Z3 camera by default has set to 8/15 MP for 16:9. So the pic is not the best yet. You need to change the settings....
3) Off the HDR & Display Enhencment settings, u will see a better quality photo on screen and on PC...
4) If you are using matt, anti finger print or privacy screen protectors, please dont even bother to complain abt the screen quality.... You are using a few dollar to cover up 100 dollar stuff...
5) Only a few case is factory defects which need u to send out for repairs... Nothing is perfect just that u are the few unlucky ones to get a defected product...
I agree with you! I also don't have any complain about the camera at all. It performs well without a hitch. Superb quality and detail.
All I disagree with is the screen one. The screen isn't very good with or without a screen protector. Brightness at the expense of screen quality is a bad move.
z3- lg g3
Sony does not make fkus even after 10 times autofocus, lg g3 first picture is extra
