To all of those who feel it necessary to create a separate forum for you rom, please stop. I understand that donations do not make you a lot of money, and that the pay per hour of cooking is probably well under the minimum wage in most countries. And, that opening new forums allows you to collect your own ad revenues, or maybe even harvest emails.
The amazing roms that come out of XDA are the result of collaboration between the thousands of people working out one fix at a time. Moving that knowledge else where creates a headache for people who simply want support for your rom.
Sometimes the XDA format can be a drag.
Having only one thread for an entire rom can bury good information, but...
searching through a thread is a lot less of a mess than having to sign up for a new forum every time you want to get the newest version of a rom, or find a fix implemented by a chef.
I understand that a chef's roms are the fruits of his or her efforts, and that he or she can do what they please with them (according to some interpreations of the law). But much of the progress that allows us to cook came as a result of people openly sharing information on XDA.
I don't see the problem it's really the person decision making the rom. I really hate searching through hundreds of posts to find info and would like to be able to have an easier way. I wish my rom did have it's own forum. Its not like they cant ask here or the rom cant be posted here. I am sure the cooker will support both since he will receive donations from both sources.
Use search link in my sign, its a lot easier and faster to search this forum. I agree there is tons of information in here. And most of all, anything that you can think of has been asked before, all you have to know is how to search, and you will find the information you want. So starting a new thread unless you are contributing is just waste of server space!
I'll take this spot to reinforce what Travito says in the next post. Phoenix is a community driven rom and the Phoenix forum helps us prioritize what we include in a build, the fixes we do and allows us to have a very collaborative process. We do post general fixes on xda.
The OP also doesn't realize the collaboration that goes on behind the scenes between the chefs, moderators and other developers that drive the general improvements in all of the roms that are being produced. This is especially true in the Kaiser community. It is this sharing that drives innovation and improvements. This process isn't necessarily one that I would want out in the open since it is iterative and tedious at times. It takes a long time to fix bugs but we all share our experiences.
One last thing, we on the Phoenix team do NOT accept donations, solicit donations or put advertising on our forum...You see we do this because we believe in helping the community. I am not disrespecting those chefs that accept donations because circumstances vary and needs vary. I am just stating that a private forum is NOT about making money.
Parley
okay, now that my little gaffe is out of the way from being in Parley's account when i posted that, though I'm sure his opinions are similar...
We on the Phoenix team have a seperate forum because it allows for easier bug tracking. XDA threads consist mainly of "Thank yous" so it seems, and you need to realize that we all have normal jobs and social lives. When we do get time to dedicate to XDA, it becomes very tedious and time consuming trying to sort through all the thank yous and trying to figure out which issues have already been addressed by fellow Phoenix users and which are still open.
PDC lets us bug track much more similarly to a piece of Helpdesk or Knowledgebase software, except the Forum basis allows for collaboration on solutions.
Most problems that get posted at PDC are ROM-specific, and not present on every ROM. If we find a fix that others could use back at XDA, we let the other chefs that we work with know and share the knowledge.
If that bothers you then I suppose your problem is actually with the advancement of ROM support and task management.
I'm behind whatever the Chef's feel they need to do and Travito is spot on with the ammount of work just to bypass thankyou or the monotomous problem that has been answered a million times......
Without the chefs here i would have a very dull phone, infact no i would have an n73
So to chefs do as you wish just produce the awesome ROMs you do!! And i wont make a new thread!! JK
Yeah um who cares? Private forums are good for cooking teams and anyone who wants to follow the ROM dev closer.

why ? I think a lot of good info and intentions came from it.....if there is nothing to hide then why curtail legit threads..huh? if you do not like the threads do not read it..simple
..free flow of info is important to this site..remember the only dumb questionis the one not ask.
OP got the answers he was looking for, and some darn good ones...i to was wondering why private forums were being created instead of being kept on this site...

I agree. Frankly, I used to follow XDA and loved it. But there are so many egotistical, immature, thread Nazis and other not so nice users, lot's of time is wasted reading their nonsense. Anyway, yesterday was the 1st day back after months and I was skeptical about the Phoenix team, but after reading this thread, I'm going to check them out for sure.

DOES NOT AID IN "KAISER ROM DEVELOPMENT" enough said
Hey, can we possibly organize the ROMs in this section, if not in all of XDA already.
Make a thread and organize based on the base ROM, or based on the Developer or something. Its just so cluttered.
The way androidspin does it is great. I have webdev experience and am willing to help out.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but since it is related to ROM development, I thought it was relevant.
We need to have categories that separate rom types so eclair wont be in the same place as hero and we need mods or think tanks to be in its on sub forum too.
for me that is great idea
Too bad it won't ever happen. Seems like XDA doesn't give a crap about anything anymore...
I've been wishing that they were organized by types, (eclair, hero, etc.) for a long time now too.
+1 for organising by 'Flavour'
why reinvent the wheel when andriodspin does what you're looking for (including link to xda release threads)..?
further, maintaining a list like that (especially in vbulletin thread format) would be a huge chore that would require intimate knowlege of each and every rom that gets posted.
I used to maintain a list of ROMs in my stickied thread until there were more than a handful.
all that being said...if you want to maintain such a list, more power to you. I'm sure people would find it useful.
Agreed,
The problem is some of the roms here tend to get missed by Android spin, especially if they have just been released, or the dev does not use AS.
Also, this would be very beneficial to WinMo users not just Android users.
I am throwing the idea out there hoping that people are in agreement, and we can get XDA to allow us to start working on.
Rather than yet another thread, it would make sense to have a dedicated ROMS page.

Q4T.
Besides, if a DEV doesn't bother to post to sites that have lists like AS, who's fault is that, but the DEV.
Good morning folks, as the title says, new to Captivate. Any ROM's that folks would recommend. Currently running 2.2.
I"m going to set this up for my son for Christmas and want it to rock. Using Simple Mobile. Are there any known issues with carriers other than AT&T? Thanks for any input. I appreciate it. Time to root this new toy
get ready for bashing...this is Dev section.,...read the rules before posting...
I would recommend all the roms in dev section, as they all are really good.
Next time ask questions in Q and A section.
read the new user guide and watch the video, then hang your head in shame.
DO NOT POST IN DEVELOPMENT UNLESS YOU ARE DEVELOPING!
People don't like when you ask which ROM is best, this is a general nono in the world of XDA. The best thing to do is just do a lot of reading and make the decision for yourself. This way you will have learned a lot of interesting things, and the devs will be happy as well. Hopefully not too many people completely tear you apart for this thread... If you read enough you will find what you are looking for. Good luck.
honestly though, ive just been using the latest leaked stock roms, rooting, removing bloat, and adding modified kernel and running ext4. been beyond happy
Anything from The Collective is excellent, but thats just my opinion.
Cyanogenmod is probably the most popular, a good choice as well
In before lock...
This is akin to going to a sports forum and asking "which team is the best?". It tends to just start a flamewar.
Granted, I think there are things that do differentiate some ROMs over others, and give them advantages... some people might argue it comes down to preference/priorities though. My priorities were:
- HSUPA (eliminating all I897 "stock" ROMs)
- Simple/stock-ish theme (eliminating a ton of other ROMs)
- Stability/reliability
For that reason, I've been running Apex for a while. Before that I was a fan of DesignGears' Captivate ROMs but he's moved on to other devices.
While there are people running early alpha/beta releases of Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) ROMs as daily drivers, the ROMs still are a bit too quirky for my tastes so I'll wait a bit longer.
Well this is the Dev section as others have mentioned...but I know how confusing it is to get lost in this vast sea of roms...so I will tell you what I felt the best ROM...well apex 11.1 is the best in my point of view
I go bake a batch of Christmas cookies and y'all have a field day in Development - moved to general and closed.
Dear All,
Excuse me if I start a new thread here but it is my understanding that certain questions are not to be made in the development section.
I know much has to do with personal taste, your own experience and research, but I am coming from an HTC Aria, and I am looking for a custom ROM for my Inspire.
There are many ROM's posted that I know and appreciate have a lot of hard work and dedication from developers and unconditional testers and followers, as for instance the specific ROM thread for BinDroid's ROM itself alone has close to 900 posts, so please don't be offended by my questions, as for what I have seen and managed to read it seems to be that this might be what I am looking for:
Is this a stable ROM for daily use?
Are there any trade-off's / sacrifices (camara, video, flash, sound, buttons, gps, etc? that don't work or have limitations?)
I can understand that for many long time users and followers there can be "known issues" , but please understand that for newcommers these are not, so your kind comments will be most welcome.
I thank you all for your support and look forward to your answers and any recomendations that you may have.
Cheers!
I would say this Rom is stable for a daily use. For awhile I was running this Rom for little over 2 months. It's very clean. Its one of the handful of roms out here that works form start to finish. The support from the inspire to the desire hd threads for this is very quick if you had any issue that you may come across. I couldn't remember the last time I.had any major issue when using this. Battery life is great if you do a lot of Pandora browsing uploads like to fb etc. Works for me with my inspire. So would differently say flash this sucker.. its worth it.
If I remember right the only thing I did was a different kernel and a uv script lite other then that bad ass.

Let's first start with, welcome! Secondly, while you're correct dev threads are typically (depends on the dev team or individual developing the ROM) are reserved for development, there are Q&A's for each respective ROM that you should use to ask questions regarding a specific ROM. If everyone created a separate thread about each question they had for each ROM they use you can see how chaotic the forums would get.
The best way to figure out what "issues" a ROM has is to read some of the recent posts in both the Q&A and Dev section, you'll see there what most people are dealing with. Most ROMs here are pretty stable and I would say fine for daily use (ICS has some minor bugs due to source issues but from what I'm seeing there are a couple of somewhat stable ICS builds).Remember this is a development site, so some independent searching and reading is expected on your part.
As for Bindroid, I used it way back when they firsant started with sense 3.5 and loved it. Danny and the team are real nice guys and do great work. I would say that ROM is more then capable of being a stable, daily driver. Just remember, only you can decide what you can live with and c live without. All ROMs come with trade offs, some users don't mind them and don't even consider them trade offs or issues which is why you need to decide for yourself. Goood luck man!
Okay, deferring to the wisdom of the elders on this question. I've been all over the place with ROMs, TW and AOSP, but I'm heading to college in a few weeks and I'm looking to "settle down" with a ROM and ride it out until my upgrade in November. Is there a clear winner out there right now in terms of stability/battery life that still has some cool features? I'm very minimalistic and I don't need to be able to customize every single facet of the UI, but rooted stock is a bit too dull for me! I'm on CleanRom 8.2 atm and it's good but not great, I'm really looking for the ultimate daily driver ROM and kernel, please advise a lowly serf such as myself.
I don't believe the rules of XDA allow a "what is the best ROM" thread, so you may not get a simple answer (and to be honest, people have different priorities in what they want or need from a ROM, so what may be best for them may not be best for you).
That said, perhaps the best approach would be to look through the Android Development and Original Android Development topics and look at both the early posts (the OP, plus a page or two after), and the last page or two to get an sense of the install, the features, and the level of support you might get with each ROM. You will also be able to eliminate ROM's that are no longer supported (eg, I believe Scott is no longer supporting CR, so even though it was/is a great ROM, perhaps not the best to consider).
Also google the ROMs to see if there are any YouTubes showing the install and use of the ROM. There are many good reviews of ROMs and seeing them in action is a big help.
Last, a number of ROMs are being discussed on Google+ so you may want to check out that resource too.
And, it may also be a good idea to actually try the ROMs on your phone. ROMs can act differently on your phone than they might on mine.
Hope this helps!!
My recommendation is read all the rom threads as much a you can and experiment by trying them out. "Best of" rom threads are frowned upon because it generally discourages people to read and learn. I am going to close this and trust you will be able to find what you are looking for with some diligence and have fun trying. Thats what makes this site great!:good:
