Hi guys,
My Sensation, with original ICS, has been working flawless until a few days it go, when it started to randomly shut down. This only happends while the charger is not plugged in. I tried to reset to facory settings, but the same thing happend (even before installing any apps).
Anyone had the same problem?

Same thing here!!
It doesnt happen when i disable bluetooth and push mail.
Need to find out which one is causing the shutdowns.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
Sounds like a hardware issue. Either battery is bad, or the maincard. Often water/shock damage.
Try a Anker battery, it wont set you back many dollars anyways.

I had random shutdowns - There seem to be a few threads around about it, some suggest repartitioning and reformatting the SD card (which seemed to work for me) and some go for some odd solutions like sticking a bit of card at the base of the battery to push it against the pins a bit more solidly.

Hi guys,
I somehow thought that calibration of my battery should be at a very low battery level (3 percent), and after that I've got some problems with my battery.
My phone now randomly turns off, even when the battery isn't empty. Often it's possible to just turn it on again with the power button, and when it's booted, it's all normal again. But sometimes it thinks the battery is at 3% (or some other low value) while before it turned off it was on (for example) 50%. When I reboot then (by myself), my battery widget shows it's at 50% again.
I recalibrated my battery afterwards a couple of times (this time at 100% battery), but it still turns off randomly, so one good recalibration (including the full discharge) isn't really possible, because my phone turns off.
Is my battery completely dead and should I order a new one? Or maybe it's possible to use somebody's batterystats.bin file? Or is there any other fix?
Thanks in advance
I'm having this same issue. Posted in general Sensation last night but haven't gotten any replies. Hopefully someone can figure it out.
Did you flash a custom kernel? Unity v8 is doing the same thing for me during certain processes, so I went back to v7. Works like a charm

Mine have happened on stock kernels.
Nope, I've never flashed any custom kernels. If anybody knows something, please let us know
have you tried wiping your battery stats?
Either wipe stats like he said or try battery calibration. Make sure battery is fully charge if you can before using it. Link here> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16415095 or just search battery calibration on market.

Got the same probs. Using ardhd 3.0.1 with stock. Had the same problems on previous roms. Haven't gotten any replies either. I've tried wiping my battery stats when fully charged, didn't help. Wondering if I should try to revert to stock and see if it disappears.
Any of you guys hade any luck fixing this?

I just recently experienced this issue as well with stock Rom with perm root. I switched to ardHD 3.0.3 and haven't had issues yet...will report if there is anymore issues with new setup.
I went back to complete stock 3 days ago. Stock ruu and s-on. Was fine the first day and yesterday. But tonight it started up again. I'm debating if I should just buy an extended battery or go to tmobile and hope they'll exchange my phone even tho its past 30 days

hmmm...thats curious, the only time i ever experienced something even remotely close to that was when i was running stock w/ android 2.3.3, it didnt seem to like our hardware very much

So I got myself a Sensation XE at the weekend, left it saturday night, was off Sunday morning. Left it Sunday night, was off this morning.
So I'm assuming I have the same issue as you guys have been having.
Is there any way to fix it without rooting/flashing or buying a new battery?
As if I need to do any of those, I might as well just send it back for a replacement. Which I don't really want to do as it'll take days/weeks.
Thanks!
When I contacted htc about the problem they just sent a new battery. I didn't have to return the phone

hey there.
I have exactly the same issues.
Tried out buying a new battery like the Anker Battery 1900mAh.
This worked absolutely fine for about 2 weeks.
But now im having the same problems again.
Now i ordered this Mugen Power 1800mAh Battery.
Hopefully resolving that problem now for good.
I will report as soon i tested the Bat for a few weeks.

You should try wiping everything and installing a custom Rom or a rooted stock Rom and see if problem persists, could be a software issue. There are plenty of stock rooted gb Roms buried a few pages back in dev forum.
Check my sig. Stock roms. There is a rooted gingerbread PD98img, stock. I think it's the 3rd one, iirc.
With the phone plugged into the charger take a pic with flash on and see if your phone resets. Could be a battery issue.

That would be my recommendation. If you knew someone with another inspire you could try their battery. Actually your battery should be under warranty. If your phone is stock looking then you could probably take it to an ATT store and let them check it out and get 1 for free. Or even a call to 611 ATT support might get you a new battery for free. Just tell them it won't hold a charge and the flash causes your phone to reboot and you tried a friends battery and it fixed the issue. ATT has very understanding customer support.
It definitely sounds like a battery issue. I had a very similar issue. My phone would shut off at random times, and one thing that caused it was the camera flash. I picked up a new HTC battery on eBay for like $14, and it runs like a dream! If you cant fork over the money for the HTC brand battery, there are lots of cheaper chinese batteries for like $2 a piece. They would be good to just test and see if the battery is the issue if you cant find a buddy that could let you use a battery for troubleshooting, before you buy an HTC battery.
Absolutely! the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. A new battery solved the issue. If you have a warranty/protection plan call up At&T and they'll take it from there.
Man, I love forums! I was just having this problem this week! I guess my brutal punishment to my battery over Winter break has cost me (I was running the phone down to 0% multiple times a day). Time to get a new battery.

Digging into the problem
I was going crazy with this problem! I wonder now what is the problem with the battery, because mine it seems like it keeps current like a good battery. Does anyoane has any "hardware-electrical" explanation?
Anyway, at least I have one solution and I am partially happy with it.

I'm assuming when you say it "keeps current" you have been using a current widget. The camera flash puts a heavy load on the battery. On an older battery, it may look like it's fine at idle or doing simple tasks, but it can no longer handle the tough tasks.
Can someone please help me? My htc sensation was working fine and all of a sudden it started freezing, so I took out the battery and put it back in. Now it won't turn on or boot into Hboot. The battery is fully charged and I even tried a different battery but still nothing. I've plugged in the phone without the battery as well and still nothing, the screen does not come on at all. Does anyone have a solution?

Hey man saw your issue...
This happened to me about 3 months ago. I was watching a youtube video when suddenly my phone froze. I did the exact same thing. Pulled the battery, waited a few mins, popped it back in and nothing. If you have insurance on the device you can get it replaced. They completely replaced mine and it was s-off rooted! So you should have no problems at all!:good:
Mine has done that a couple of times. All I do is wait about 5 minutes then pull the battery, put it back in and then try to restart the phone. Sometimes it take 5 or 6 tries before it will reboot and even then sometimes all I get it the splash screen. Another hint is to have it plugged into the charger after you have put the battery back in. If the charging led is on then that means there is a very good chance the phone will boot
Please guys I need help. My phone was running smoothly with no issues before. Then I finished surfing the net after that the phone keeps on shutting down at a setting interval when am in the middle something or not. I have done some things I know to bring it back to its proper working conditions but still, no improvement and I have restored to the original backup system software because I was running on custom rom before the incident and it still happening.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda app-developers app
Tried another battery, ejecting your sd and SIM cards or if the shut down happens with a charger plugged in? If yes then do a super wipe, flash fresh firmware and ROM then test before restoring anything, check all MD5 before flashing.
If it still shuts down with fresh everything then maybe a hardware fault, return to stock and do a warranty repair.

Try THIS fix. Maybe your battery is loose
I have not tried a new battery I will do that and see what happens next. Because I also suspect the battery, I was having 87% battery life when the phone shutdown unexpectedly and I powered it on again the battery became 13%, I think the battery is the culprit here. I will try what you said and see.

Strange of the battery to go down so fast. Yes you should probably try another battery
Ad he said try different battery . My mugen battery was behaving like that then my device turned black and I couldn't boot, no charge light was detected! I switched batteries back to Anker now my device is running fine. Strange because the mugen was a new battery but sometimes this happens. So yes definitely try another battery.

I dont understand you. This fix is for fixing random reboots. Its not too hard to understand.
Maybe you are too young...
Hi guys, I jsut want to share my experience about random reboots...For about 4 month I had this problem with every rom I tried, changed battery but nothing so I sent my device to HTC and they changed motherboard; when they sent it back, problem wasn't solved but after a couple of week I had a clean install of inspiration without restoring my backups via TitaniumBackup (I erased them)...since then no more random reboots with any rom I tried...I just want to say that if this hardware method doesn't fix reboots, consider corrupted app backups
Had random reboots either, by replacing the battery with was 2 years old with an anker suddenly the problems dissapeared all. This trick shouldn't help really but yeah thanks.

Buy an Anker battery, especially if your stock one is ~2 years soon.
Also adjust CPU clock speeds and use apps like Greenify.
Stop flooding the development thread !
u got the General and the Troubleshooting
but this one is Fu&^%$ Sacred
I confirm it worked for my Sensation 4G with even Anker 1900mah. Months ago I used original battery then had random reboots. I bought the anker 1900mah battery, the problem went out a couple of days ( maybe because Anker is a bit bigger than original battery), however later it returned... so I searched for many solution and saw this... I tried with my anker and now for 6 months I have had no more random reboots...

I had my Sensation XE sent in for repairs (Volume button fell off). The shop lend me a Sensation XL. That thing had crazy random reboots. And I fixed it by wedgeing in a piece of folded paper between the battery top and the phone. Only because you could almost slide the battery around in its "seat".
Now I have an unorginal battery for my Sensation. Its a little bit taller and wider, I almost have to force it in. Thats way im sure the few reboots I have are kernel / rom related.

I've had some random power off, I suspected it's battery probelm because the phone didn't reboot, it just shut down. I've put a little piece of paper between the battery and the housing several days ago and it didn't happen since. Simple but effective, at least for me.
