Whos idea were these "free games"? - Android General

All of these games that are "free" but when you play them the gold is crazy priced.
Blood and glory.
DH3.
Order and Chaos(Not free but same idea).
Gun Bros.
Six Guns.
And I am sure there are plenty more that I just haven't found yet.

Add six guns to that list as well. I actually ended up using my credit card on the damn thing to buy the currency.
Nothing is really free in this world it seems...lol

It's just how the programmers make cash a recent study shows that money from in app purchases way out ways money from selling full version games

I feel valve should do seminars about how to do a free to play game right, with micro transactions that don't break the bank

TF2 started all of this!
And in Blood and Glory you cant even kill the first guy. Crazy.

You also notice that lots of these games have posts on Google Play and Amazon App Store of people who have paid money for extra stuff and they never get it. I just wish that developers of these games wouldn't be so greedy.

The devs work their arses off. How do you expect them to carry on if you're all so (can't honor for the word)?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA

yes but telling that game is free and then wanting money from user in the middle of it to get to the next level is simply fraud.
They should really stop using word free and come up with different term to call these games that force you to pay or go away.

Exactly. I would MUCH rather pay $4.99-$9.99 for a complete game were you earn armor in game(Like a normal game) versus paying $99.99 for stupid credits.

I think its stupid. Cause i mean if they make their app cost then they shouldn'y add extra credits for money -.-

Those games should be named "pay-play" to know what is all about. I give the credit to the dev's and we all know that nothing is for free on this world. So be more transparent.

Then sell the game! For example, I would buy Airport City, which is a game like this. Around level 10, it becomes impossible to advance unless you spend money. And there's lots of reviews by people who spend money, but never get the credits.

Whenever I come across a game like this, it gets deleted right away. I understand that devs want to be compensated for their work and that's fine..but to me that's just deceitful. Tricky bastards.

I actually love the games that do this. Although forcing the user to pay to play sucks.
I think Order and Chaos has a good system. 3 free months. Nothing in that game requires a purchase outside a subscription... but you can buy gold to get a head start on higher end weapons. But gold is just 1000 silver, so you really don't need to buy it.
This is how it should be for all games. Even apps like Photoshop. Free core then charge for brushes and filters.
Games could also offer sections of the game, like a gate pass, to let you to other sections.
I'd rather pay to play then buy a full game that sucks. I can pay what I want and skip the rest.

Its not about forcing us too play its the old drug dealer method of "here have this sample of our great new drug" but when your hooked the next one is $100. Its just the fact that they don't tell you up front that its a limited demo "Freemium" unless you purchase updates in app.
The really should call it "Shareware" because that's kind of the motto they work on

Official unofficial Amazon app of the day thread

So, I know this has gone on in other forums, but I figured Id start it here. Ill post the app of the day(Or someone else if they get to it first).
Todays app is Pac-Man! CLASSIC!

Anyone else surprised it was the real Pac Man and not some cheap ripoff?
I put sooooo many quarters in that machine when I was a kid. I wonder how much more money my folks coulda retired on if they had invested all that coin instead of letting me throw it away lol

+100000! I miss tabletop Pac Man too (and Ms. Pac Man.)
Actually it wasn't because of Amazon releasing Pac Man that made me ask that but rather the crazy number of Pac Man ripoffs that are out there on every system since Atari days. Hah and yeah I know, I have like 60 apps from Amazon now, some of them being $5-10 apps. They haven't been cheap in any way to us.

I'm seeing this more and more. The "minimal" price gets them some revenue plus a lot of great reviews because everything is unlocked and you have all of the features. People post "cool game" and "must download" not to mention that they recommend it to friends and on discussion boards. The stores that sell it show 25,000 downloads.
Then... wham! Everything is now locked and its a pay-to-play app. All the great reviews, 4.5 stars, and download counts are still there though. Couple this with a marketing spin of "xyz Game is Now FREE!!!!!" and you'll get even more downloads. All this at the cost of their early adopters (you know, the ones that discovered the bugs, put up with the FCs, and essentially paid to be your beta testers).
Unfortunately, people speak with their wallets. The cynic in me feels that most people will happily use the new version and end up buying $25 of add-ons. This practice works or else others wouldn't be following the "trend." It really sucks. Good luck on the refund or getting some free in-game credits.

+1 that's my point. You see .99c is nothing but let's say 25,000 people downloaded and paid for the game, they would make $24k+, profit will slow down and then BAM! game is now free with premium item purchases to make more cash as profit was becoming slower and most of the people already downloaded and paid for the game. In that way they've also attracted more people into downloading and trying it, thus more potential customers who will buy premium items.
Really bad practice IMO.

I hate pay as you play games I refuse to buy credits, I end up just playing too much to earn free money to buy upgrades.
Id rather pay for an app which gives me free upgrades than get the app for free and pay for the upgrades.

Just thought I would share.

Found this recently and it has made alot of games more enjoyable
Its called Game CIH
http://www.cih.com.tw/download
Basically it lets you edit the values within lots of different games, for instance I use this app to play games that abuse their IAP's.
(Needs Root)
It doesn't work on all games but I found alot that do.
Here are the instructions I followed
[/URL]http://www.se7ensins.com/forums/threads/how-to-use-gamecih-cheat-on-android-games.675752/
This program definitely transformed dead trigger from an IAP nightmare to a great first person zombie shooter.

Kinda but not really it will let you spike values in the games you play and you can cheat per say, let me put it this way I have 70000 gold in the game and I didn't spend any money. I did notice that if you check your stats in the game it only shows what you "truly" have accumulated. but it really makes the game that much better being able to access the 15 or so weapons you would normally have to spend real cash on.

Oh ok, yeah that sounds cool. Especially for an app trying to be greedy and fooling people its a free game. Kudos to you.

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic (AVAILABLE NOW, FREE!)

Yeah so... I might be the only person here who's looking forward to this game. There's no official release date available yet, but Gameloft has announced that it will be available 'later this year' and will be on both iOS and Android.
From what I can tell it looks to be a city builder type game. Playing mini games to earn points, then using those points to buy houses, ponies, items...so on and so forth.
So my questions to you all is: Are you excited for this game? Do you think It'll satisfy My Little Pony fans? Will you be buying this? & If so how much are you willing to pay?
I personally think I will be a good game if they do 2 simple things. Listen to what the fans have to say, and have it reflect future episodes, meaning if new ponies make their appearance in season 3, I think Gameloft should add them into the game and to do as much as possible to have the game reflect the TV show. If they keep the updates coming this game should have some lasting appeal & replay value.
Check out the iPad game play demo and let me know what you think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlBInHiJ-74
As a fellow brony, this excites me. /)
Like you said, as long as Gameloft listens to what the fans have to say. And of course new ponies and cannon names and the whatnot. And I hope that they include some of the maybe not so well known background ponies. Such as Lyra, Bon Bon, and Dr. Whooves, etc.. I'd probably pay anywhere between 5 and 10 dollars. Depending on how much content is actually in the game.
Possibly....even if I stopped watching it after season 2 episode 1....I still read the fanfics though lol.

Edit: just watched the video, no way will this run on her ****ty wildfire s
They could make great use of the Xperia Plays touch pads on this game, instead of touch swiping the screen to navigate you could just use the touch pads. And the mini games could make great use of the D-pad. The game has huge potential hopefully they put effort into this instead of just selling the name and making a quick buck.

The only 'major' issue I've come across is the inability to connect to Gameloft & stay connected.
It's a flaw in the game, I expect this to be fixed pretty soon considering most challenges have to do with connecting to gameloft and interacting with other ponies.

Not really, after you hit level 20 everything you need is pretty much there. I currently have 35,000+ bits right now and that number increases every 3 minutes or so. I've also done all the available 'challenges' for the time being (besides the GL ones obviously)
So yeah hopefully we'll see an update soon...

Would you play this game idea?

Would you play a game where you play as a butterfly?
I want to create a 2d horror RPG where you play as a butterfly/death butterfly and I'm just trying to figure out if that would be weird concept to put the player into a role of a butterfly.
I wont say my full idea cause its very unique, it will be my first game and feature a mechanism that I've never seen used in any mobile game that will separate it from most games out there.
I'm getting inspiration from Japanese horror and anime, so its going to be very spooky, as i have graphics and art background the look will be very professional and I've spent months on the idea and gameplay design. (i had initially wanted to make it an animation, but then i got a nexus 7 and android overtook me lol next up a 4 and 10 arrgh lol)
I'm just really curious if people could get involved into a game that doesn't focus on humanoids, because its going to be a Kickstarter, and i am going to use unity pro and will probably be free.
Thanks

Hard to say if I'd play it with such little information given, but butterfly or not, I think if it's a good game then people will play it regardless.
There are games that let you be a worm or ants, so why not?
I can remember a time when I was just a pixel trying to survive.
Don't you think it is strange asking people to play a game if you are not willing to disclose the info about it. Playing as a butterfly could be horror on its own! Just create it and make a demo/preview.

Not trying to be a downer, but if you're planning on Kickstarter to support your idea, I would think twice. Kickstarter typically works for people who already have a name in the industry..
