It's a ****ty business practice. It's not so much it's ONLY 99 CENTS. People will overlook this company in their future titles, I will. It also shows their business model for this particular game is beyond WRONG. What's wrong with humanity.... Pft

well not really, bad thing is after milking cash to those people who bought the app and making it free to play and then charging again for the in-game weapons, makes it look like they are ripping people off don't you think?

I agree, that whilst it is only 99 cents/70 something pence, it isn't fair to those that paid for the app. I'm sure they'll compensate everybody that bought it via in app purchases (if they want to maintain any form of reputation). Just give it time

I'm seeing this more and more. The "minimal" price gets them some revenue plus a lot of great reviews because everything is unlocked and you have all of the features. People post "cool game" and "must download" not to mention that they recommend it to friends and on discussion boards. The stores that sell it show 25,000 downloads.
Then... wham! Everything is now locked and its a pay-to-play app. All the great reviews, 4.5 stars, and download counts are still there though. Couple this with a marketing spin of "xyz Game is Now FREE!!!!!" and you'll get even more downloads. All this at the cost of their early adopters (you know, the ones that discovered the bugs, put up with the FCs, and essentially paid to be your beta testers).
Unfortunately, people speak with their wallets. The cynic in me feels that most people will happily use the new version and end up buying $25 of add-ons. This practice works or else others wouldn't be following the "trend." It really sucks. Good luck on the refund or getting some free in-game credits.

+1 that's my point. You see .99c is nothing but let's say 25,000 people downloaded and paid for the game, they would make $24k+, profit will slow down and then BAM! game is now free with premium item purchases to make more cash as profit was becoming slower and most of the people already downloaded and paid for the game. In that way they've also attracted more people into downloading and trying it, thus more potential customers who will buy premium items.
Really bad practice IMO.

I agree me too... My problem also is EA games after purchasing plants vs zombie not compatible for note ics. I purchased it a year ago up to no still not compatible.
They are so fast when accepting payments but to lazy to update there games.

The problem is not the amount of the loss.
It's that you, sir, are being cheated.

I hate pay as you play games I refuse to buy credits, I end up just playing too much to earn free money to buy upgrades.
Id rather pay for an app which gives me free upgrades than get the app for free and pay for the upgrades.

I was annoyed too,
But I was using gameCIH anyways so I'm sort of taking revenge.
Will never spend a real cent in their shop.

Official unofficial Amazon app of the day thread

So, I know this has gone on in other forums, but I figured Id start it here. Ill post the app of the day(Or someone else if they get to it first).
Todays app is Pac-Man! CLASSIC!

Anyone else surprised it was the real Pac Man and not some cheap ripoff?
I put sooooo many quarters in that machine when I was a kid. I wonder how much more money my folks coulda retired on if they had invested all that coin instead of letting me throw it away lol

+100000! I miss tabletop Pac Man too (and Ms. Pac Man.)
Actually it wasn't because of Amazon releasing Pac Man that made me ask that but rather the crazy number of Pac Man ripoffs that are out there on every system since Atari days. Hah and yeah I know, I have like 60 apps from Amazon now, some of them being $5-10 apps. They haven't been cheap in any way to us.
Todays terrible offering is a task killer...

I actually signed up for their playpack this past Friday. It works well on my Internet connection (15/2) and the selection of games are good enough for the amount of gaming I do. I also bought Dirt3 after the fact due to the additional discount. Tons of fun on both the phone and PC.
Just signed up myself actually, but sadly no free Lego Batman. Tried some demos and they played incredibly smooth.
Do I have to pay a monthly fee or can I just purchase the games I want to play?

Fruit Ninja Free has more features than the paid version!

Have you guys noticed this? As I like to support the devs, I paid for Fruit Ninja as soon as I got my Android phone, but when I saw my cousin playing on his phone, I noticed he had a blade I didn't, and when I checked, he was playing the free version, and it had far more thing than my paid version.
Isn't this a bit strange?!
You can unlock blades and such as you play the game, so it's most likely that he just played more than you/better than you.
No no, I had everything unlocked in my paid version, it was updated and I didn't have the blade he had. That's very strange!
Yes, that's right. Last update for paid version is February but August with the free

You mind sharing the source ?
If you are talking about this, they are talking about "repacks" of applications... so actually any app can be repacked with malicious code, not only FN.... that was just an example of live malware on the mart.
So the devs just *****d those who paid for their app? This is insanely wrong!
Is your cousin's Fruit Ninja the official version or a mod? I have a modded one that has 10x more rare fruit occurence.
It's the official version. I tested it myself, downloaded the free app and it has more things than the paid version!
is it really that big of a deal ?
of course its a big deal. just imagine u walk into a restaurant and order a salad. then u realize a free salad counter and it serve more salad than the one u pay for... its definitely a bummer
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
Do they have ads in the free version? I just bought the paid version for $0.10 so I'm not sure how much it usually costs. Perhaps they actually make more money from it so that's why they want to put more effort into it. It does seem like a silly thing to do.

That's exactly the point.
And I paid full price for it, don't know how much it was though.
All I want is that devs update their apps on Android too, Battleheart is missing 2 new characters iOS version got, and Fruitninja is missing alot of features, and the paid version has even less features lol.
Well if that is the case wouldn't it be better of i just install the free version? Think of it this way. Maybe the free version is used for beta testing, and if everything went well, then it will be updated and introduced in the paid version. You don't want a buggy paid application do you?

Lol, I can't think that way. If I wanted to use the free app I wouldn't have bought the paid version! Now I can't ask for a refund and I'm stuck with a game with less features on my account.

Whos idea were these "free games"?

All of these games that are "free" but when you play them the gold is crazy priced.
Blood and glory.
DH3.
Order and Chaos(Not free but same idea).
Gun Bros.
Six Guns.
And I am sure there are plenty more that I just haven't found yet.
Add six guns to that list as well. I actually ended up using my credit card on the damn thing to buy the currency.
Nothing is really free in this world it seems...lol

TF2 started all of this!
And in Blood and Glory you cant even kill the first guy. Crazy.
You also notice that lots of these games have posts on Google Play and Amazon App Store of people who have paid money for extra stuff and they never get it. I just wish that developers of these games wouldn't be so greedy.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
yes but telling that game is free and then wanting money from user in the middle of it to get to the next level is simply fraud.
They should really stop using word free and come up with different term to call these games that force you to pay or go away.

Exactly. I would MUCH rather pay $4.99-$9.99 for a complete game were you earn armor in game(Like a normal game) versus paying $99.99 for stupid credits.
I think its stupid. Cause i mean if they make their app cost then they shouldn'y add extra credits for money -.-
Those games should be named "pay-play" to know what is all about. I give the credit to the dev's and we all know that nothing is for free on this world. So be more transparent.

Then sell the game! For example, I would buy Airport City, which is a game like this. Around level 10, it becomes impossible to advance unless you spend money. And there's lots of reviews by people who spend money, but never get the credits.

Whenever I come across a game like this, it gets deleted right away. I understand that devs want to be compensated for their work and that's fine..but to me that's just deceitful. Tricky bastards.

I actually love the games that do this. Although forcing the user to pay to play sucks.
I think Order and Chaos has a good system. 3 free months. Nothing in that game requires a purchase outside a subscription... but you can buy gold to get a head start on higher end weapons. But gold is just 1000 silver, so you really don't need to buy it.
This is how it should be for all games. Even apps like Photoshop. Free core then charge for brushes and filters.
Games could also offer sections of the game, like a gate pass, to let you to other sections.
I'd rather pay to play then buy a full game that sucks. I can pay what I want and skip the rest.

Its not about forcing us too play its the old drug dealer method of "here have this sample of our great new drug" but when your hooked the next one is $100. Its just the fact that they don't tell you up front that its a limited demo "Freemium" unless you purchase updates in app.
The really should call it "Shareware" because that's kind of the motto they work on

When will people learn that ANY developer making anything on Android is a pain in the ass for them. Yes iOS gets more updates but that's because they are developing for a very small number of phones. Anyone got a count of the total number of Android phones, me thinks it might be a f'in lot!

Yeah...bought and refunded...Didn't seem worth the $0.25 for the size and gameplay.
I got stuck with the purchase, didn't play it with enough time to see how not worth the 25cents it was.
Maybe when playing it on a tablet it'll be better. But it feels so cluttered too Mich on screen, camera right behind batman.

More than worth it!
Excellent graphics, sound, voice acting and controls. High resolution textures take up a lot of space but definitely worth it. Would like to see more variety in combat. $0.25 is a must buy, even to just show off the graphics.
Use the six axis app and create a touch profile. I use it for almost all my games on my galaxy tab.
