Steve Wozniak prefers Windows Phone over Android - General Topics

He loves everything. Even getting in line to buy a iphone.

Obviously, he is the 1%

He still uses a iPhone. It's his choice, he lives a free and easy life now.

That is a completely false statement. The thing that Woz loves more is barbecue restaurants. If you follow him, almost 100% of his foursquare checks come from these places.

Without Woz (and after him, PARC, Jonathan Ive, Scott Forstall, etc), there would be no Apple, true. Without Jobs, Apple wouldn't be Apple, though. We saw how the company foundered, marginalized and distracted, when not under his leadership. (Fifteen hundred different models of indistinguishable Performa/LC/PowerMac models; overpriced underperforming Newtons; rebadged Canon printers; OpenDoc; Taligent/Pink/Copland ...)
I know Woz (not well, but I have met him in person (through John "Cap'n Crunch" Draper, back when The Cap'n was flinging 3.5" disks of PGP around raves). I love Woz. I was an Apple IIe/IIgs user back in the day. But Woz' contributions were of a day. All too quickly, the bare-metal hacks of elegance Woz excelled at -- nybble disk reading routines with 1:1 interleave; tricky hi-res NTSC video output -- they just weren't necessary anymore.
I think it's telling that Jobs went on to usher into the world standard-setting new gadgets until his dying days, whereas Woz tried to launch a universal remote control, put together some jam sessions, and then basically retired to teach middle school kids and play around on his Segway and other new gadgets -- all of them engineered by other people.

Jobs was a charismatic mascot who used his companies perceived underdog status, marketing acumen and relationship with mass media providers to generate massive amounts of undeserved hype for his average at best products.
The biggest standards set by apple while Jobs was in charge was patent trolling and
frivolous lawsuits.
Good on Woz for not being a fanboi.

Doesn't mean you should 1 star them.

Yes it does. It isn't right for my android device. If they fix it I will adjust rating. Seems perfectly fair to me.

Because they have no way to block it from showing up on the Market to a crippled Tablet running Froyo. 1 star the Android market for not allowing them to block your device completely. 1 star Samsung for probably never giving you Honeycomb which supports the "xlargescreen" in the Manifest.
The Android market is targeted at phones. Not tablets.
You know all that talk about fragmentation? Galaxy Tab (not a real tablet) users and HTC Wildfire (no GPU) users that 1 star apps because of their crippled phones screw with the ratings, thus making the fragmentation idea that developers have keeping them from developing for Android.
Yeah games are also about gameplay too. One-starring something because it doesn't work in the first place is not a proper review.
People affected should not even click on the ratings. They should email straight to the developer for support.

I remember playing this game on my iPod classic a few years back, thanks for the heads up
As a developer (one free game in the market so far) and an avid Android user I must say I'm inclined to side with Ashvsaod. One star is a bit harsh - maybe 2 or 3 tops is more suitable but I understand him nevertheless.
As a developer, if you can't make it work, you should at least point out in the description that it doesn't work with tabs, period. Even more so in a 7 bucks game!
But to be honest I don't think it's that hard to make it work either. My game supports 2.1 and up and it works full screen on the tab (there was basically one programmer working on it for a few months in his spare time - so it ain't the complicated). Even without the xlarge tags you can still query the screen size in the code and make adjustment. I don't think it's justified to blame the platform for their inability to make it work.
But that's besides the point. The main point is that ff a damn expensive app doesn't work on Tabs (which are a rapidly growing chunk of the android sales) it should be mentioned clearly.
Nice to see some bigger developers pushing out games for Android for once and not sticking with the iStuff
The ratings and comments should be used for reviews not bug reports.
I bought it for the sole fact that I can hope to see more, and hopefully original games from them on Android!

Nonsense, handling screen scaling is _trivial_ under android and has been since 1.6. Absolute sizing is just lazy iPhone-like development. Failing to take into account the best practices of the platform if precisely what low-star scores are for.

I suppose this is valid. However, I opt to contact the developer first before lamenting in a Reviews section that not a lot of them may care to review due to emotionally charged ratings anyway.
I've had a ton of success by contacting the devs. They're usually so courteous and modest, as well as thankful that I actually advised them of a bug as opposed to just leaving negative feedback. I've left only a few legit 1 stars before and retracted emotionally charged ratings in lieu of contacting the developer. So far, no one has ever turned me down. And I admit that a couple of bug reports were sent with an admittedly douchy tone as well lol
Huh?

Think it would make more sense to compare it the mobile version of the game on a similar platform. Like the version on iPhone: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crystal-defenders/id300186798?mt=8
It has 4 stars there as rated by users which I believe is more telling than reviews of the game on a home console. I believe the attitudes of users playing this game on a phone would make more sense than the attitudes of people that are playing a mobile game on a home console.

People expect more of a console game than of a mobile game?
(Those reviews are for 360, PS3 and Wii ports of an iphone game - of course they don't get fantastic scores!)
I played it on the Wii and did not enjoy it much, but yea, I guess it could be good on a mobile platform.

Why is gaming on Android still lacking of great companies?

I don’t understand why gaming companies such EA, Capcom, Square Enix, etc don’t offer the same amount of games that we can easily find on App Store?
I used to have on my iPhone games like, SF 4, NBA Jam, Dead Space, Metal Slug, Dragons Lair a many others that I cannot find on Android market.
Is there any explanation for it? Android as far as I know is the most popular OS so why those companies don’t develop games to Android?
And I know I can get ROMs for some games (like Neogeo – Metal Slug, King of Fighters etc) but it’s not the same, those ROMs are not really developed for Android, they are adapted so for me we cannot have the best of it.
Wouldn’t be cool to have a SF 3D for O3D? or Dead Space 3D?
Which games, in 3D, would you like to see it?
The only big company that I can see doing a great job is Gameloft, apart from them the rest is rest at the moment.
Shame that they are not treating Android with respect.
Several studies have shown that Android users are much less keen on buying apps than iOS users. Therefore, the large gaming companies you mentioned probably estimate the market for complex Android games is too small to be lucrative.

Perhaps they are not willing to buy because there are no "good games" at the moment?
I have bought 3 3D from Gameloft and will be buy more from them very soon.
In my opinion it is just a matter of what the marketing is offering if there is good games people would pay for it.
I think it may also be because android users are innate hackers. Kind of kills their bottom line.
If we really get "Onlive" on our Android devices like it was announced, gaming is going to take another direction. Try "onlive viewer" and check what gaming is all about.

I don't agree with that, it would be same idea for game consoles.
The gamers know that it is possible to get pirate games online and unlock their consoles, but I do believe that it's not everybody that does that and the same you can say about Android.
You have millions of people using the system and it's impossible to think that all these people would be hacking their phones.
Even iPhones can be unlocked (Jailbreak - Cydia) where you can get free stuff as well.
I really don't see much of logic if this is what these companies are thinking.

Its pretty easy to hack wii/xbox360/ps3 i have done that on all my consoles easy to hack iphone also android everything are hackable! So thats not a good excuse that the big companys dont make the good games to android its all about money and tactics from apples side. But as seen now it very soon will change alot more ppl having android phones today. Apple is at top now but they are close to fall in near future a company are at top for awhile but sooner or later its going to fall. Also its another reason that apple will fall steve jobs have quited. He is pretty good to talk so he had done alot for the company just becouse of hes way to talk about apple product! so hopefully in near future the game companys see its alot money to earn at android too just look at gameloft they earn pretty good for those android games becouse thats quality games its worth to pay for!

It is true that many of our troops die fighting for our nation, however they do not share the same recognition as the man who has significantly impacted technology, he might have influenced some of the tech soldiers use now. I'm not saying troops don't deserve the same attention, because they do but won't be getting it.
Must have hit him hard when Samsung fired back just now and sued Apple to slow down their release of the iphail4s overseas.

Yea Steve and Bill are the founders of the PC era, regardless of their tactics. They have influenced the direction of almost everything technically related in this day and age. More importantly they produced strong competition and created a will to do better. They are, were, and forever will be my heroes.
On a lighter note, it was probably the release of the iPhone 4S that was the final nail in the coffin ("Where is the iFone [email protected]#").

Probably on a military-based website. This is a technology-based website where we discussing the death (and impact) of a death of one of its founders. Seems relevant.
Talking about dead military and those that died at war is not the topic and is what we should NOT be talking about as it is irrelevant. Neither is the topic of starving children or battered women or the economy... those have separate threads.

To all Apple users... (R.I.P. Steve Jobs)

Hello apple users, I have been an android person since I first got a major OS based phone, but the news of Steve Jobs' death hits me as if i was a part of apple. Jobs paved the way for computers, portable media, and the world of super powered touch screens to hit the market. He was an innovator, and a genius. (Personal note, I feel that they spat on the legacy of Steve Jobs by hiring boring Tim Cook to take over the company, I saw the iPhone 4S unveiling, worst unveiling ever, and I watch them everytime they had one. This one had NO WOW FACTOR, I was not impressed, but moving along...) Steve Jobs was the father of apple, and today, a child has been left on this Earth without his father. Android and Apple have had their back and forths, from which phone is faster all the way down to "Dude, you stole my UI! (SGS with the almost identical UI of an iPhone)" but any android user who says that Apple wasnt a pivotal point in the media/communications milestone is ignorant to say the least. I once again send my condolences out to Steve Jobs' family, the Apple corporation, and the legion of Apple/iPhone/iPod/MacBook users who are mourning his death. No one will do it like he did, and the love, compassion, and enthusiasm he had for the Apple Corporation!
May he Rest in Peace,
Ognimnella
