[Q] Kernel Flash Help... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Currently running a SkyRocket i727 with GB 2.3.5. I have ROM Manager, Root Explorer and ROM Toolbox installed and the device is rooted. Also flashed CWM. I would like to flash my kernel to one that allows me to replace/modify the boot animation. I tried this one from Da_G:
ponack.net/TPC/dagnarf/cwm-ke...el-0.43-v2.zip
On reboot, I get a "Process system....." failure and the phone won't do anything. Pulled the battery, booted in CWM and restored from backup. Phone is working now.
Can someone help me with doing a kernel flash that will work? The ROM is the stock ROM. I was told that you can flash the kernel without having to flash a new ROM.
Thanks.

This is my favourite gb kernel

Flash 010 mainline edition
If that doesn't work try Eugene's sgs2 streamline kernel

What does kernel flashing do?

Coming from the Captivate, which was my first Android phone. I never had to flash a kernel. I just downloaded the rom I wanted and flashed that. I have not rooted my Inspire yet, but will be soon. I haven't decided what rom I want to flash yet. It is between a few of them:
1. ClearDroid Inspire
2. CoreDroid Gingerbread 2.3.3
3. LeeDroid v.2.2.2
4. Android Revolution 4.2 B2 Gingerbread
All of them but ClearDroid's requires you to flash a kernel, what is that and how do you do it?
Do I place both the rom and the kernel on to the SD card, flash the rom, then some how flash the kernel? Do I do it the same as in flashing the rom through CWM? What does the kernel do?
Sorry I am still new to rooting and I want to learn more about. Any information would help out..
Thanks.

Can't install Tiamat

I can't seem to install any Tiamat ROM onto my Xoom. I flash both Rom first then an OC kernel second and my device won't boot. It stays stuck on the Motologo. Ive re-download both files and even flashed only the rom leaving the stock kernel. Same results. So right now I'm stuck on rooted stock. However I was able to flash Tiamat universal Xoom root and it worked fine.
I'm using Rogue Recovery v1.1.1 Ive also used the CWM provided by universal Xoom root.
I just can't seem to get custom ROMS installed.

[Q] About to flash Cyanogenmod 7.1..

Hi.
I'm about to flash my first custom ROM and have a few q's before I do it. Im on a SGS2 rooted with the help of Odin and S2root (like superoneklick I guess). I have flashed CWM recovery via Odin and my kernel is called 2.6.35.7 [email protected] # 12. My build number is XWKI4.
First question is if its safe to flash CM7 with above root and kernel (I know that its never completely "safe" to flash anything but you know what I mean =).
Second question is if I should flash through ROM manager or CWM recovery.
Third question is concerning market and gapps. How do I do to be sure of having at least market when Im on CM7.
Cheers!
I would definitely flash the ROM through recovery, I dont really trust ROM manager for that. Do a full wipe before flash. As for GAPPs, you can flash that through ROM manager.

[Q] Installed TrickDroid 6.1. Do I need to flash new kernel now?

I've successfully installed TrickDroid 6.1 and also the Tweaking software on my T-Mobile One S. At the very end the of the install instructions it says, "You can flash the stock kernel with the Boot Flash Script afterwards."
I've flashed many ROMs on other phones before but don't recall this step. Is it necessary? Right now the ROM works fine, but some of the tweaks (volume wake and Google Ears) do not. Thanks!
Idk about "have to" since torxx uses stock kernel... but I think he modifies it so I ALWAYS flash the boot.img that's packaged in the rom.zip
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
I believed the Trickdroid 6.1 has an OC kernel built in.
So if the OC kernel is what you want don't have to do anything else.
If you want the stock kernel run the boot flash script

Restore back to stock from custom rom

Im on synergy v1.3 and if i want to go back to stock do i only flash the stock rom in pda??? on the android development section for this phone they have a direct download and a kernel download ..will i need to flash the kernel download too? im not using a custom kernel(i dont think synergy has one yet). Yes, all you need to do is download the stock verizon rom for this phone onto your computer and Odin back to stock using PDA. Only use the PDA section in Odin. If you didn't change kernels then you don't need to flash the kernel, because the kernel is already the stock one. You can use custom kernels on Synergy. I'm using a custom kernel on synergy 1.3. What I did was downloaded the verizon ez recovery app from the play store, give it root permissions when you open it. Included in that ex recovery is a few different recoveries including CWM and TWRP and invisibleks v2 kernel. You can flash a kernel using that program. You simply just select the kernel and hit flash and then reboot recovery. The only downside is that when you flash a kernel you lose your recovery. But since you have the easy recovery, you just flash a recovery and you'll get a recovery back. Its really simple and awesome! I'm using Imoseyons Lean kernel v12 and it allows over clocking to 1.9! And under locking as well. I'm getting phenomenal battery life.
Current~Samsung Galaxy S3 SynergyRom 1.3 & Imo's Lean Kernel v12 Oc'd @ 1.9mhz

It shouldn't matter if you have a flashed a custom Kernel. Just Odin the stock ROM
Also if you want to go completely back I believe you will also need to flash the stock recovery and possible the flash counter.
