[Q] Does Slider (sl-101) have the same issues as TF-101? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there!
I recently bought an Asus Tf-101 and I'm really enjoying it... However, I've seen a lot of users complaining about random reboots and SODs. For the 10 days I've been using it I only experienced SOD and only if the tablet stays in stand-by for a long time, like 6~8 hours (during night time most of the times).
Because of this, and honestly I don't want to experience those RR, I'm considering returning it and getting a SL-101. However, I'm not sure if the slider as the same issues since they aren't very different.
I'll also take this shot to ask for any suggestion from you, like what other tablet should I get or workarounds to make this work properly (I don't want to root or flash the device, in first place I wan't a device whose brand was able to make it work without any major issue). I really would like to buy the Prime but it is out of budget and, here in Portugal, there is no TF300 yet and I actually wanted one with ICS...
So.. any feedback on SL-101 or any advice from you?
Best regards,
Miguel Ribeiro

I have an SL101 and i NEVER had any random reboot or a SOD at all, mines not rooted or flashed or anything. The only thing you MIGHT experience is some occasional lag.
Also, the ICS update is LATE AS HEEEELLL
I hope it helped

I have an tf101 b70 us with stock rooted rom. Since yesterday updated it to 9.2.1.24 and were ihad screen tears with youtube and rr/sod with the .21 firmware it still doesn`t show at the .24 firmware. But it is to early to say it is solved only have the .24 for about 27 hours now

Just a question, does the TF101 Dock has the same problem with the YouTube app as does the Slider? My AZERTY Slider can't mark a space if i dont press the up key first

I've got the SL-101 and I do have some Radom reboots. Seems to have just gone away for now. After I got the last update they stopped.

I've noticed that as well.
When i got my device it was actually in sleep mode - wasn't shut down.
When it first woke up - i had no sound. a Reboot fixed it.. didn't really get the chance to play with it much since (just happened yesterday).
Mine does that too

I have also experienced this a few times.
I've had this happen once. I have a long list of problems I've encountered. Now that my touchscreen is totally dead and no amount of rebooting will fix it, I'm convinced I have a lemon.
Any solution for this? I just got my tablet and it everytime I have wanted to play sound, I had to reboot. The reboot process is slow, I don't want to do this every time I want a bit of sound.
I've run into this myself after applying the latest patch. Thus far it's the biggest issue I have, and it's certainly an irksome one.
Yet more great service from asus had a pm about this problem going to provide some thing to log it as they cant produce this fault proves theyvare listening

I have this problem as well. No sound after long sleep. Reboot would fix it. This happened after latest update.
Occasionally I have the no sound after sleep but a reboot fixes it.
Just another data point.
im in the uk and i have noticed that since the update yesterday this problem seems to have stopped, i know ASUS haven't worked on it as i have been discussing it with them via PM, is anyone else who updated yesterday finding this problem seems to have gone away

Another case: sometimes no sound after long (over 1 hour) sleep.
I seem to have this issue as well. +1 for a fix.
Sorry for the double post, but I thought it was worth it to say I have not been having this problem since the upgrade to 3.1. I will post back if the issue reoccurs.
Sadly, I have this issue, losing sound after long sleep. Seems to me that the only way to restore sound is by a shutdown/restart. Seems like Asus/Google can't get it fixed. I'm on ICS, Android 4.0.3, build 9.2.1.24.
If sound ever cuts out on me (It hardly ever does) Usually a mute and unmute, then a force close of the system vol control fixes it.

[Q] TF101 _STILL_ rebooting after downgrading to honeycomb!

Since Asus ICS update was a gigantic failure for me (Youtube HD videos broken, reboots, etc) I decided to 'downgrade' back to honeycomb. However that DID NOT fix the rebooting problem. And sometimes it doesn't even reboot, it hangs on the bootscreen and does nothing, and sometimes it bootloops or just doesn't wake up from sleep. Just to note I am using the Revolver ROM for honeycomb (fully updated) AND I did not have these problems with the rom before I tried ICS.
Has anyone had similar issues? If so how did you fix it?
Please, my transformer is becoming more and more useless
How did you downgrade to HC? Did you also downgrade the kernel and bootloader?

I rooted my device and used an app that installed CWM.. Kernel is downgraded when flashing revolver and I did install an overclocking kernel from revolver parts. Bootloader I don't know.
Perhaps you should try updating the bootloader? It's just a theory, but I doubt it will make you Tf any worse.

I've got the exact same issue after the downgrading to revolver rom HC. How do you update the bootloader?
Also, I noticed that no problems occur when the device is charging, kind of wierd

Hope someone can tell how to update the bootloader. I was going to do the same thing with an tf101 because of all the reboots but if it dont help I rather wait to see how's it going..
The issue is that something goes wrong when the tablet goes in to "deep sleep". This is the same thing that is happening in ICS.
Now, I've found a temporary 'fix' for this issue. The fix is that you don't allow it to go in to deep sleep.
There is a program called WakeLock (It's on google play, my account is not allowed to post links :/) that lets you do just that.. Open up WakeLock and check the PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK radio button and then tap the Aquire/Release Lock checkbox. Now you're set! The tablet should not reboot.
This has worked fine for me as a solution and my tablet has been running all day without problems. There IS a downside though, your tablet WILL consume more battery power since it doesn't go in to deep sleep.
As a countermeasure to that I used setcpu and a screen off profile that downclocks the CPU to around 200-300MHz and after a full day I'm at 50% battery life (13 hrs on battery), not amazing but acceptable (my usage consisted of having wifi on at all times and watching 3 episodes of community and light web browsing).
Hope this helps!

The tf101 I want to downgrade don't have that deep sleep issue.. It reboots when it's in use, often repeatedly.. And often stuck on bootanimation (eee pad screen).. So maybe I should try anyway..

In the stock firmware on the ASUS site or in the OTA updates, there will be a blob file. The bootloader can be extracted from there with the blob tools (search in the dev section).
I'd make a flashable version, but I suspect that you have a WW TF.
Ok, now this is crazy.... I thought that I was going nuts when after a complete wipe (using SuperWipe script) and re-installation of Honeycomb from scratch, I too still had the reboots!!!
How can that be? The reboots were NOT there before I installed ICS!
Is it possible that Asus updated the firmware in a specific integerated device during the ICS update that is casuing these issues or something? I don't know how else to explain people having the same issues even after reverting back to Honeycomb!
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I do remember hearing that the bootloader was updated with ICS - would that normally get reverted back to the "old" bootloader when doing a full wipe with SuperWipe script and re-installing Revolver (Honeycomb verison) from scratch?
Hmm, maybe the best thing to try would be to try the old bootloader with new ICS? Maybe that will stop the random reboots with ICS too!
Thanks!
No, most roms don't touch the bootloader. The stock roms and the OTAs will flash it. Although I'm not sure how much it could do once the rom was booted. I've noticed a few bad flashes lately, but they are usually resovled by flashing again with a full charge, overnight, plugged into the wall, not the USB port. Give that a try first.

If there is anyway someone could package the old Honeycomb bootloader, i'd be willing to try it! I have been unable to find a way to get back to stock Honeycomb (in order to re-write the bootloader). I'm assuming that I'd need an NVFLASH version of stock honeycomb firmware to get there from here?

Two days ago I disabled the apps "Android keyboard" and "polaris" . Since I use Swype on the tablet and quick office, figured it couldn't hurt to try. Usually I'd been waking up to a frozen tablet or stuck on reboot screen. Two days now no freezes. Not sure if it has rebooted while asleep, but I use it every night for several hours, and since I did that I've had no problems. Maybe just lucky two days. Someone may want to investigate that further. Wifi is set to turn off when screen does. Hope this helps someone.

What version tf do you have? US WW etc? Is your serial number nvflash compatible?
The other problem will be the system updates, but I think you can just delete dmclient?

i have a us transformer with the exact same problems. I went from Revolver HC to revolver ICS back to Revolver HC and the ICS reboot issue is persisting. I thought it was just me, glad to see (for my sanity's sake, not your torture) that it's not just me. I know on my old Captivate, if you used a GB bootloader with certain Froyo ROMs there was bad effects. It is possible it plays into it somehow. I never flashed an official ICS update, but since the customs are based off of ICS official it is possible something was changed. I have tried different Kernels, different Daemon settings etc, and the longest i could go was 2 days with no reboot. Mine does the same thing tho - sometimes it reboots. other times it just hangs on the ASUS screen until it kills the battery. It doesn't do it while plugged in. I have super wiped, re-flashed, restored old nandroid backs ups, you name it i have tried. Any help here is much appreciated as i have started using my kindle Fire as my primary tablet because i am becoming so frustrated with the TF. It has rebooted once while in use while playing a game. The rest is while off. Once li clicked the screen off to put it down to get a drink and it rebooted. Its quite maddening at this point,
I was eventually able to downgrade my bootloader to the version that came with 8.6.5.6 (its the version I had laying around). So, I am now running the 8.6.5.6 bootloader with Revolver ICS - we'll see what happens.
First night was encouraging - over 5 hours of deep sleep last night an no issues... I'll keep an eye on it and report back.
It just makes NO sense how the reboot problem is now present even on Honeycomb, where is wasn't as issue beofore!
I now wondering if ICS either updated some firmware on some device in the TF (wifi chip, bluetooth chip, etc) or that the bootloader might be the difference....
So I now have a Honeycomb bootloader (verify bootloader version by looking at text on sceen after holding vol down + power) and ICS OS. Time will tell....
Can anyone else explain how the reboot problem could cause the issues on honeycomb as well???
Thanks!

Give us an update on this later
FYI - Still going strong with ICS (Revolver) running old Honeycomb bootloader (8.6.5.6).... I don't know, but I have a good feeling about this (of course, I've had that "good feeling" about 20 times now without any success)!
I'll keep you posted!

The .24 update has been up for less than 24 hours, and you folks are saying that you've already experienced a random reboot and/or sleep of death? Wow -- surprising to see it come up so quickly. I hope you guys performed the cold boot (shut down, then power+vol down and then either wait or choose the cold boot option) as we were told to do after applying the update.
So far I can't say anything about whether its fixed or not. It hasn't been nearly long enough, and won't be for at least 2 weeks. Announcing that its "solved" before running for at least that long seems silly, given the past history on this issue.
For those reporting that it isn't solved for you -- perhaps you could explain what you had happen?
Installed .24, cold booted, and have experienced one RR and Gmail issues in the first few hours of use. No SOD yet thankfully.
Well, I can now confirm on at least one unit that the RR problem is still there, too (I have 2 TF101s in my house). OTA update was applied to a stock, unrooted TF101, cold booted, and about an hour ago it rebooted on its own. It was a full reboot and did not hang on the logo screen.
dang ... I guess I will keep waiting for TF700 then, while enjoying the TF101 that I downgraded to HC few days ago ...
BTW, the TF300 seems to not be immune to SOD/RR either, bummer
any updates on screen tearing?
also, minor note to those having RR/SOD issues? you guys should seriously consider using the "test" kernel by guevor. i recommend 17 or 17c.
guess i'm gonna answer my own question....no more screen tears (for me anyway) with the new update. add that my guevor's custom kernel...and my ics is perfect.

SOD/RR was fixed for me in the last update. I'm scared to update to this new firmware in fear of it coming back

No RR or SOD for me so far. Didn't perform a cold boot yet.
But my Gmail App is kinda buggy. Sometimes it won't load new emails. Going back from reading one to the inbox is buggy, sometimes the app stucks und I have to close it using task killer :/

NVIDIA's fault, their GLESv2 library is buggy as hell (even to the point of crashing the Dalvik VM instance under which GMail is running).
ASUS UK is saying to perform the cold boot BEFORE updating now, conflicting the instructions to do it after the update.

All users MUST perform this before installing the new update. Post below if you have any issues with performing the cold boot and we’ll see if we can help you out.

[Problem] Tf300 randomly reboots itself every few minutes after JB upgrade.

Hi guys
So I bought tablet here in the UK about a month ago and apart from being sluggish on ICS (seems, everyone knows that problem) everything was fine. The JB OTA FW has rolled out and I upgraded and shortly after that TF300 started to play around by randomly rebooting itself every so often. Recently It got so bad that it happens all the time I mean in less than every 5 minutes.
I am gonna take it back to the shop but I am curious if any of you had this problem and if You know what's causing it...Ohh.. forgot to mention that obviously I did the Factory Reset and it didn't help...
I have to admit that after my faulty device and so many people had on this forum I will never ever unlock it after i get it back fixed/replaced...It's just not reliable enough to trust Asus on that especially if it cost so much money to fix it after ...
i ve got mine for over a month now. First ICS and JB later, I honestly can remember it ever rebooting

When I read your issue, the first thing I thought was how glad I am that I'm unlocked and running stable builds rather than the stock ASUS stuff.
If the issue is hardware related, ASUS should cover it under warranty regardless of locked or unlocked. Unlocking it didn't cause the hardware to fail. If it's a ROM issue, you can easily re-flash or try another. It's a win-win.
Regardless, good luck with your tablet.

After doing factory reset did you try your pad without restoring any apps? It could be that an app you had was causing the reboot, it seems strange that it didn't do that on ICS and it does on JB.
Yes i did..but then again it was working fine on ICS so can't be a single app besides it usually reboots when the screen goes off...I started to think that it may have something to do with the bootloader since one it didn't even boot but stopped on asus screen giving me some message about bootloader error etc.(can't exactly remember what it said)..one way or another it is strange that only some ppl get this random reboots and for other jb is working fine so I'm gonna get it replaced or money back and maybe but tf700 ..i was gonna unlock it and flash custom rom but if problem still occurs then I'm completely screwed on money...

I find your comment interesting since I did get the .30 update OTA and I had no issues with the update nor have I had any issues after it finished. It is interesting that Asus pulled the update though I will give you that.
UPDATE: Wanted to add that I did not get the .26 OTA and had to do a manual update using the downloaded file provided by Asus Service located on their site.
Wow, I must be one of the lucky ones, my Infinity has been running so much better since this update my bencharks even went up, I used to get about 13100 on Antutu and now I get about 13590, browser hasn't hung once and I haven't had any game crashes, except the usual Nvidia bug, **** I even plyed Heist on power saving mode all the way through.
Sorry for those having issues, but this machine is so much better then my Prime was it isn't even funny.
Honestly I haven't found any problems with 0.30 update yet. The browser is actually less prone to crashes than before (or at least that is what I can observe). Not sure if this update is creating problems for people, but for me everything is fine so far.
After downloading this update on the first day it was pushed, I have had no issues at all. In fact, it could be in my head but it feels a little snappy when opening apps.

Every update you are going to have some people who say it caused issues. FWIW, I got it and it has not introduced any major new issues for me. In other words my tablet still has a few stability issues but I can't tell if they are new since ASUS' ICS firmware has never been 100% stable for me. On top of this, you always find some buggy apps that may have some issue with the update you hadn't seen before.
The only thing I think that may be "new" is: I got some crashes on the stock browser which were fairly rare for me prior (including one that locked up the tab completely)... I decided to use it as a motivation to test out Firefox for Android and it seems to be running pretty well after several hours of continuous use. So, overall, I'd say I have no major problems with the update.
They could have pulled it because a lot of people seemed to have actual problems with the download and install. Anecdotal: seems like I've seen way more problem reports/"need help" posts on the forums than a typical patch level update. I've seen several brick reports, too, which seems way out of line. So maybe they needed to look at an installer issue before they put it back up.
On the other hand, if you haven't gotten it yet I wouldn't worry much, I'm not seeing anything I'd consider a major improvement, either. I don't care about face unlock. LOL.
I did benchmarks as well. My numbers went up exponentially. Seems snappier! No issues whatsoever. Improved my blue tooth and Netflix now works. I'm a happy camper.
Before this update, I was having occasional issues with Chrome freezing and needing to force close. I didn't originally have this problem so figured it had to do with a Chrome update (I have it set to auto update so I don't know if it's was updated or not but something changed). After recieving .30 though, I can't say I've had an issue with Chrome.
I will say that the task/notification bar keeps popping up unexpectedly. And that never happened before. The tablet can be sitting in the dock open and the screen on but not touched at all by me and eventually the task/notification bar opens on the bottom right. I'm assuming this is a .30 update issue. Anyone else see this?
Chiming in.
No problems after .30 here either.
Yea i havent had any problems what so ever. don't know why everyone else is...

bs player fcs on me now, black market fcs on me, and most importantly FILE MANAGER HD force closes on me. the hell asus ? it was great before that
Have had multiple issues since the update (only had the Infinity for about 2 weeks, and new to Android so not sure if I had it long enough prior to the update for these to show but all where working fairly flawlessly before):
BS Player crashes as soon as I tried to play a file - "Loading files..." - after a lot of googling, switched off something in the options about loading files and seems to work OK now
Dice player has frozen a few times
The email that comes with it - froze on one account out of three and wouldn't swap over - after about a dozen cold boots seems to have been OK for the past 12 hours
Dead Trigger, Modern War and City Crime - all crashing and freezing regularly (had maybe 2 crashes prior to the update)
Boat Browser and the stock browser have had a few crashes
No issues since the latest OTA. It seems snappier and more stable. I am much happier!

When I first got the. 30 update my tablet started locking up and rebooting. It had never done that before the update. I did a cold boot and it still did it. I finally did a factory reset and now I haven't had any issues for the last two days. The tab is much snappier and browsing has improved.
I was having problems with MXplayer, Dice and BS player after the update. I uninstalled all three of them did a hard reset (vol down and power on) and then installed them again. Now they seem to be working fine. I know MX and BS just recently had updates as well. Now BS player has an offset for the audio and it's a great workaround for the BT lag!
anybody have a link to the updates? my ota failed and i cant wait to flash .30
