Samsung 32GB Class 10 for $33 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Samsung Class 10 32GB microSD card for $33 at Fry's starting later today. That's a great deal. Cheaper than the same-spec Patriot card I bought on sale recently.

Good deal
I saw a similar deal on ebay, but i thought it was sketchy and went with a class 4 32gb SD for $21 from a trusted seller instead. Is the class 10 card speed incredible?

Class 2 = 2 MB/s
Class 4 = 4 MB/s
Class 6 = 6 MB/s
Class 10 = 10 MB/s
So just think of transfer speeds, the bigger the files the longer it'll take. For example say I had a 4MB picture or file and I transfer it to the Class 4 SD card, it will take 1 second. If I had a 100MB file on a Class 10 it will take 10 seconds to transfer while on a Class 4 it will take 25 seconds. If waiting time doesnt bother you then Class speeds wont matter as much but if you do transfer a lot of files or media all the time then they're really important (HD videos etc...). It also helps if you like to update your phone with ROMs and data files frequently. Some of the files range up 200-300+MB in sizes so having a Class 10 will help in transfer speeds. So thats the only difference between the classes, they're guaranteed write speeds under ideal conditions.

I bet you also think the 6GB/s transfer speeds SATA6G claims means you actually get 6GB/s rates as well!

Let's all stop spreading wrong information, please? I was minutes away from getting a Class 10 MicroSD card last week when I read that post.... saved some money since I bought three Class 4's for $60 instead of two Class 10's for the same price!

You know, if you click links, you learn stuff!
Class 2 and 4 cards have better random access speed and random read/write than class 6 or 10 cards in general. To get higher sequential write speeds, manufacturers sacrifice the random access speeds. That's just how it is.
The best all around card I've ever found is Sandisk class 4.
My 32gb Sandisk class 4 outperforms any other class 10 or 2 32gb card I've tested in the random access and random read/write speeds. That's what's most important when using with WP7 or Android when using it for apps or OS files that need to be accessed quickly. Class 6 and 10 cards are setup to initialize the area of the card that is about to be used to make the sequential write/read quicker, but it takes extra time in the beginning to do the initialization. If your using the card where you need to access small bits of info from various parts of card quickly, you will do best with class 2 or 4.
Most people seem to assume that the higher the class, the better the card is for everything, but that's not how it is. Different purposes need different kinds of speed... cards with higher sequential speeds have lower random speeds.

If you try doing things on your own, you also learn stuff. Better stuff.
I use my SD card for storing files.
I back up my ROM to it.
I pull ROM's off it.
99% of the time I access my external SD card, it's to write a large file or read a large file.
So I guess my Class 10 SD card is faster than the best Class 4, 99% of the time for me. \
I've tested the times and measured the write times at least.

lol those are theoretical write speeds "sustained" (minimum meaning "at least")I posted, if I could paste links before I wouldve done it but I couldnt. Its not my fault that other companies rebrands their stuff so they don't have to make multiple models to save money. Yes companies do that too. And no when I think SATA6G i think Gigabits not gigabytes, if thats what you're thinking gigabytes then sorry bro.
I'm not giving wrong information you're just misinterpreting it because you don't understand it. I'm going based on the definition that they listed, not by benchmarks. If the benchmark shows that Class 6 outperforms Class 10 then thats awesome everyone should buy Class 6 then. But I'm not going to list that Class 6 performs 20MB/s and Class 10 performs 19MB/s... Like I said they're not all going to be the same because companies do that they will slap on whatever class to save money. The link you showed me click on it and read it, people will have various results how come the guy that bought 8 of the same memory got 22, 19 and 11MB/s on his results?
Speed Classes 2, 4, and 6 assert that the card supports the respective number of MB/s as a minimum sustained write speed for a card in a fragmented state. Class 10 asserts that the card supports 10 MB/s as a minimum non-fragmented sequential write speed.
http://www.sdcard.org/downloads/pls...ified_Specification_Ver_3.01_Final_100518.pdf
If you want to buy a lower class rating memory then thats up to you congrats you bought one! Just know that benchmarks are benchmarks just because they give you a big number doesn't mean its always better in real life scenarios. (Meaning most likely the card is empty when they do the benchmarks, not full).

But I was confused to, it turns out that it's a known mystery that Sandisc don't claim the higher classes. I almost got the inferior Kingston for a significantly larger price. As seen above, the Ultra is also better when only small bits of data is used, so there you go... I hope this helps!

here's a site mention that this model " SDSDQY-016G-E11M" is a CLASS 2 card!!

Weird, I bought a class 6 16gb from Amazon for $43. You should return it because 1. overpriced, 2. wrong item.
Majed.y
i just had the same experience with KomputerBuy -
just posted the below in another thread:
okay - got my sandisk ultra 16GB micro SDHC in, and as opposed to the pictured class 4 symbol on the advertised unit, what came in is marked class 2
then i noticed the model number for the ultra 16GB adverstised on most seller's websites, including the one i ordered from, is SDSDQY-016G-A11M
and this one's model number is SDSDQY-016G-E11M, the difference being the last four characters
Note: sandisk, on their web, does not state class 2 or 4 for the ultra series micro sdhc
now it gets strange - called sandisk to see what they had to say about this, got to a level 2 tech, and all he would say was the last four digits referred to "production lot number" - which seems odd (i'm in mfgring, and i've never heard of a "rotating" model number - it would create a lot of confusion - how do vendors know what the "flavor" or current model number is, if they order the one used on previous order, and the current model number that comes in is different, there's going to be headaches with vendors calling in, yada yada
doesn't seem viable - suspect sandisk is using that as a cover story, similiar to apple's SOP
so i asked the level 2 tech, is this the same card, with just a different class number stenciled and all he would respond, oddly, was that the class number was simply the lowest read/write speed the card was guaranteed to demonstrate - i told him, i didn't ask for a definition of the class stencil meaning, but that i had asked WERE THEY THE SAME CARD? He just repeated the same answer
he did ask me to identify the seller (KomputerBuy on Amazon) and he confirmed he's a legit dealer
in testing mine, transfering a 662 MB file to the disk, it took 120 seconds exact = 5.51 MBs per second
in seeing the other tests, i'm returning the card
suspect something is going on in the memory market (engadget had an article that memory prices were getting ready to climb) but i have to be suspicious when someone shows me one product and delivers a different one - mine's going back
PS - and just checked Newegg's web, they're showing the next shipment of the correct class 4 card w/reader is due in 10/22/2010
there's got to be a memory shortage in the pipeline
on a sidenote, they have a class 2 16gb sandisk micro sdhc for $46, + $9 for the micro reader, means about $30 less than what i paid komputerbuy (aaaarggh)
Welcome larryccf
I tried to contact KomputerBuy and sandisk but found my self wasting time, so asked for a return and returned mine and got full refund via amazon.
then picked one from Amazon it self, which is real (4).
bad expernice with KomputerBuy.
I took a lot of time searching for this card.
there's something going on in the memory market
as i explained, a) sandisk rep gave me a confusing / deflective answer while trying to tell me not to worry about the class 2 card i received
then when i bought a 8 GB class 4 from MacMall (another sandisk recommended dealer), what came in was the correct product number they had shown on their website, but where on their web they indicated by picture that it was class 4, it arrived and was a class 2
price though, was too cheap and i should have been suspicious ($27)
I've kept it, and will use it till memory shortages / price gouging dies down, and buy one in a local store so i can confirm it's class in person BEFORE i pay

This is something I would advice most people when trying to buy Sandisk Ultra's.
Went to a local shop today and had them order a 16gb class 4(as the title of this thread says) + usb adapter for 77€ and explicitly let them pay attention to the class. They were even going to call to make sure they shipped a class 4.
Went back yesterday and as it turned out Sandisk still shipped a class 2 card...something very fishy is going on here...(almost feels like they can't get rid of their class 2's ^^)
Anyway; since I ordered at a shop (no deposit mind you), at least I don't have to worry about shipping the bloody card back and forth. And I don't have to deal with dodgy answers from Sandisk's customer-service.
Still waiting for the card though.
Kind regards! (and good luck to anyone trying to get a class 4 card)
i bought one here http://www.lowpricememory.co.uk/sandisk-16gb-ultra-micro-sd-card-c-29-p-292 and real genuine sandisk16gb classe 4 .
No typo

1 your card is normal class 2
2 that card can perform beter then 2mb sec write speed
3 class 6 guarantees minimal 6mb per sec.
4 class 2 does not perform the same when it's full or let say more then 50%
5 if you like to use half your capacity you buy class 2
6 if you like speed and size you must buy higher class card.
7 kingston is very high quality and fair priced
8 sorry for my bad english

FIND TURNED REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 32 GB Micro SD... Good Find???

So, after having found these and purchased the Sandisk I found that its performance was lackluster. It ran slower than my 16 gb Dan-Elec. Reading and writing. I wound up returning it and purchasing the Dan-Elec 32gb today. Lo and behold the read and write times are faster. Plus an extra 5 years on the warrenty. Very surprising. A class 4 Sandisk .vs a class 2 semi unknown. Unknown wins!!! I am very happy.
These are the least expensive options I have found to date. With the new options in development is it recommended to get the class 4? Besides running apps, there is no difference.
The 720p video, from what I have heard and from personal experience on my class 2 16 gig, is the same for playback.

I would go with the SanDisk Class 4.
A couple things to remember, the class number is an indication of the MINIMUM write speed that the card is capable of. In my experience, SanDisk cards typically out perform their class on a regular basis.
A higher write/read speed is nice but not sure where to draw the line as far as 'overkill' is concerned.
IMO, a class 4 card is just fine. I don't think the extra speed makes that big of a difference.

I think you are correct, especially after reading this in a similar thread------------------->http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=918
I saw a benchmark test video on digital cameras showing that a Class 2 Sandisk SD Card was clearly faster than Class 4 SD cards from other brands.
Personally I've found that Samsung cards perform best for me - that means speed above their rated class, and more importantly I've NEVER had a Samsung card corrupt on me.
I won't use any other brand now (and most other brands are just Samsung or Sandisk cast-offs, rebranded). My data and my time is too important. I'd sooner use a class 4 or 6 Samsung than a class 10 anything else, and I guarantee you it would read/write just as quick.
EDIT: This love for Samsung only extends to their SD cards - they can stick their phones up their ***es!

Where to find them though?
i have a class 10 16gb but honestly i do not see anything "upgraded" from the stock class 2 8gb. I do not store my apps on SD (YET) so maybe that would be improved when the time comes. Also i was hoping when you open your picture gallery the image would load up more clear but faster but nope still the same. I think get the cheapest one and run with it.

Good choice, anything greater than class 6 is wasted on the phone, even with "HD" recording capability.
As for brand, Sandisk has always made reputable products, and they stand by their products, should anything go wrong.
I'm looking forward to getting my 36GB 4 class soon...

[Q] what class sdhc came with your phone

I was trying out the camcorder functionality of the charge but I was getting an error whenever I tried recording video. Then I took a look at the sdhc card and saw that it was a measly class 2 which is apparently too slow for recording video on the charge even at 320 x480 resolution. I swapped out the card with a class 10 and now I can record without any problems.
Did everyone get a class 2 with their phone?
That's so funny you just posted this, I was going to post similar.
My DC came with a Class 2. Dirt slow on writes.
My Thunderbolt came with a Class 4 and I replaced it with a Patriot 32gb Class 10. Made a big difference in how fast camera pics were saved.
I ordered the same card today to put in my Charge. Should really speed things up when writing to the sdcard.
Hmm, Class 2 here, but photos and video just fine on the highest res. Almost no delay either...
Though, now I'm tempted to get a Class 10 just to see if I notice a difference.

mines a Class 4... how strange...
Mines class 2 and video works fine.
Wondering if it could be formatted to ext4 for a speed boost? Anyone done this or know how?

Mine came with a Samsung Class 2, but I swapped it out for a SanDisk Class 4.

I'm interesting in getting one for my SGS2. PM me if you prefer privacy.
Thanks!
Class 2 in mine but I pulled it and threw a class 10 I already had. Also have a Class 6 and that works much better also then the elcheapo class 2 it came with but I thinking I'm sticking with the Class 10 for now
This is the class 10 card I bought for my Thunderbolt, and have the same arriving today for the Charge. Patriot Signature 32GB Class 10 from Amazon.
Solid performer, very reliable so far.
Those of you who say the class 2 performs well, set your camera at the highest resolution, super fine, etc, everything to make the saved pic as large as possible and take a pic. Once the shutter snaps, start counting "one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, etc..." On my Charge just now with a class two the picture isn't finished writing to the sdcard until somewhere between four and five. I'll do same test once I get the class 10 installed.
On my Thunderbolt, the exact same test just now and the pic is saved instantly; I can't even start to count. Granted, the software in the TB may just be better for the camera, but on the Thunderbolt with the Class 4 it shipped with I saw a noticeably quicker save.
Benchmarks on the two phones class 2 write 7MB/s, read 16MB/s; class 10 write 13MB/s, read 24MB/s.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize how terrible Class 2 is/was. I tried out the Class 2 in my SGS2 and WOW. Slow to just r/w.
Ordered a Class 10. Wanna try it out. I went with Kingston from Newegg.

Patriot, $130ish from amazon
Posted via tapatalk from my Samsung Stealth.
Is it worthwhile for me to blow that much money on a Class 10, or does the phone itself have some sort of capability cap that would make a Class 6 or something a little lower just as good?
It was $87 for the Patriot 32gb on Amazon. I've purchased two at that price over the last three months. No tax, too.
Only you can decide if 50-100% performance boost is worth the price. I can tell you that the difference between Class 4 and Class 10 is noticeable, very noticeable. I've had Class 6 cards, but never in the same phone as a Class 10, so no direct feel for it. You might compare some benchmarks.
Thanks for info, just pulled the trigger on the Amazon one. The camera slowness, including audio not matching the video, is the only part of this phone that made me miss the iPhone.
It's my primary camera for taking pics of the kids so it us to work well.
Thanks!

Unless you're running Linux on your PC, this would be bad because Windows can't see Ext4, so you would not be able to transfer files to it.
I got the Patriot 32gb class 10, but I haven't even took it out of the package because of all the negative reviews it's getting (i got it from newegg):

No issues with the Patriot here, but all those reports of corruption on NewEgg are disturbing. No sign of it here, but gonna be more diligent in backing up. I've had the card in the Thunderbolt for about 10 weeks I guess (got the TB on first day, got the Patriot a couple of days later).
However, I installed one in my Charge and while it makes a bit of a difference, the difference is not nearly as noticeable as the upgrade from C4 to C10 on the Thunderbolt was.
Camera is still slow to save a maximum resolution image, maybe 3 seconds, compared to 4-5 on the C2. On my Thunderbolt, image saves are almost instantaneous. I need to test this a bit more.
Patriot Class 10 in both Charge and Thunderbolt, the Charge benchmarks slower with SDTools app. Like 11MB/s writes and 20MB/s reads. This is pretty squarely in the middle between the TB on C10 and the Charge on C2 I posted earlier.
Seems like i/o on the Charge not optimized perhaps?
I still endorse upgrading to a C10, but not quite as strongly as I had earlier. I'd certainly buy it from Amazon or someone else who has as liberal a return policy (Amazon = 30 days, no questions asked, they pick up the postage) in case you decide the cost/performance-upgrade ratio isn't satisfactory.

32GB SD cards

Anyone using a 32GB SDHC card in their Fascinate? Just asking because there's one on sale on the Newegg Shell Shocker later today (check at 10AM pacific time). Wondering about speeds and such, and whether Class 10 is worth it (seems like if you want to fill such a big card, it'd be nice to have the faster write speeds of Class 10 but I've seen some reports of incompatibilities/problems with C10 devices).
I was just benchmarking the card that came in my Fascinate (which is supposedly Class 2) with SD Tools and I get 5-8MB/s writes and 16-18MB/s reads which is way better than the Class 2 minimums. The one on the shell shocker is a Class 4 so I'm just wondering whether it'll be a downgrade in terms of speed (just because it's rated for significantly lower speeds than what I'm getting with the internal one). I'll probably end up getting it anyway because I've got ~1GB free on my current one and I want to play with an Ubuntu chroot install.
i got the sandisk 32g class 10 it was worth it. Seems to R/W faster but that maybe due to the SD card boost read ahead cache hack. I think mine is set to 512K. Whether its faster or not the extra space is always a plus
Guess ill find out the hard way with ya, bought one as well. Was also wandering about the speed difference. Noticed the one that came with was class 2 and the 32 was class 4, hoped it at least wouldn't be any worse as i am content with the speed of the included sd. Was really surprised to see that it was a class 2.
Oh well just have to wait until it gets here and see.
DO NOT BUY THE Patriot LX Class 10 32GB CARD!!!
After a few months of light usage (i hardly ever connected it to transfer anything, just had HD seasons of breaking bad, chuck, human target and sparta that I never had time to finish watching) I finally hooked it up for maybe the 6th time since i purchased it, and after transferring some music and more shows, i got a "Damaged SD Card" error. For the last month since that occurrence, I have had to reformat the card at least once a week, and set up my music and just a few episodes at a time (because whats the point of putting seasons on if i'll just have to transfer them over again in a few days) consistently. Sure, it moves along at 12MB/s, but certainly not worth the hassle.
This is not an issue that I have heard of with Class 2 or Class 4 32GB micro SDHC cards, and Patriot says they are working with Microsoft and Google to determine the cause of the issue, but Newegg reviews indicate that this is not an isolated incident.
Good luck with the SanDisk card!!!
Mhm, I got the A-Data 32GB class 4 from Newegg. I benchmarked it and it's not as amazing as the built in card (around 5-6MB/s write and 12MB/s read) but it's not super slow. Yeah, I ended up avoiding the Class 10 cards for that reason actually. It's nice to have so much free space now; I think I'm going to try installing Ubuntu in a chroot jail again.
The new PNY class 10 for tablets is now in stock at Newegg, just ordered one with free shipping.

I got this exact card -- Just arrived yesterday.. I am getting AWFUL performance from it. I mean it performed like 3MB/s write and 8MB/s read.. It only fluxuated by about +-1MB with various SD read_ahead changes.. So disappointed. The worst thing is my phone is NOTICEABLY worse-off with the card in (weird stutters, etc).
Which leads me to something else altogether -- Has anyone noticed that with no SD card in the phone it just flies? I mean even the old SD card which didn't SEEM to give me any stutters was a matter of night and day with it in our out.
jt's CM7 Test Build 10 / EC09 radio / OBT .13 kernel @1400mhz
Old radio was EB01.
_______Update________
So I hadn't tried the card today with the EC09 radio (why should it make any difference?). It seems to have made a difference. Below are my results (with SD Booster app to change Read Ahead value, and AnTuTu benchmark just doing SD Card IO).
PNY 16GB MicroSDHC P-SDU16G10TEFS2
Read Ahead, AVG Write, AVG Read
4096, 6.4MB/s, 15.4MB/s
2048, 6.5MB/s, 15.4MB/s
1024, 6.5MB/s, 15.5MB/s
512, 6.0MB/s, 16.1MB/s
256, 7.4MB/s, 16.3MB/s
256 (2nd pass to verify), 7.4MB/s, 15.9MB/s
128, 6.9MB/s, 14.8MB/s
FAT32 / 16GB Partition
I hope this helps someone. Still not sure why my write speeds are so slow on Android when I've seen them hanging around 12MB/s in Windows (When using FAT32).
Patriot has a lifetime manufacturer warranty on most of their memory. You should contact them about getting a replacement. I run their RAM on my custom built personal pc. It is super stable. Just hoping to help.

I've used both the Patriot class 10 32gb card and the wintec 32gb class 10 card. Both have corrupted my data after a few days. Heard the sandisk and the lexar cards are good, so you may want to give them a shot.
Got the scandisk class 4 32gb and it's satisfactory
i was just about to buy a larger card when stumbling onto this post.
Does the read/write speed slow down as the card gets bigger in size?

No, but I have found that cheaper/nonbranded cards tend to be slower. Read reviews before buying.
I've got a lexar 32gb class 10. It's absolutely terrible. It takes so long for pictures from the gallery to load after you take a picture for example. Anything using hte SD card is slow as molasses. Oddly every benchmark I throw at it shows high speeds, so I have no idea what is going on with it.
may be could try this (get rid the lba) could help the perfomance and compatibility ?
try read this thread (hope help), I'm not try it my self on my fasci, since my class 10 msd still on it's way send to me.

Sandisk 32GB too slow!

Just purchased 32GB Sandisk micro SD. To my knowledge Sandisk has only one 32GB micro SD card and it's a class 2. I have had same, but in 8GB capacity. From time to time I copy/backup folders to external SD: Navionics, Epocrates, and TitaniumBackup...up to 460MB. On 8GB it would take a minute or two each, but with new 32GB it takes forever. Both class 2; same manufacturer, but smaller one much faster. Any suggestions?
Infusion of Android
Class it up! Try a class 4 or 6.
nvm: I read later that you mentioned you get a faster speed on a Class 2 8gig than on a Class 2 32 gig. I just need coffee. Ignore my comment
I have a Sandisk 32gb Class 2... and it's slooooow. So I tried a 32GB Class 4, and it's still equally slow. I'm beginning to think it's the device, not the memory card. I'm getting annoyed with how much just having a memory card in the slot slows down the phone. I may just tolerate the internal 16gb and stop using an "external SD" because it's gotten super annoying waiting for it to scan all the time.
I have an adata class 4 32gb and its pretty good copying to and from. I got it from a quality retailer. If you didnt get it from a quality retailer, TEST it with h2testw app on the pc and make sure its real. It will take a long time to test it. Writing will go quick and you wont see any errors, but reading and verifying the writen data will take a lot longer and thats where the errors will show if its truly not a legitimate card.
I got a couple of fakes off ebay that i got refunded for, but these people sell thousands of these things on there and alot of people get fooled because they seem to work fine, UNTIL down the road when you cant read the data and lose a ton of stuff.
If you test it and get no errors on the reading side, you got a slow card and thats all there is to it. Its not the phone becuase it works fine with cards for most everyone. Not many complaints showing up

Correction. It's a Class 4 that I bought from Staples.
Sandisk technical chat was a joke and commented:"Well there is no guaranteed read and write speed. Still you can try formatting it with a tool called HP Tool"
My response:"Your comment could be construed as a copout. I believe everyone should have the guarantee that when same manufacturer produces a product and one is classed to have double the transfer capability ...... it should perform as such"
Sandisk chat :"I understand but we do not have any read and write speed on micro SDHC card"

Kudos to you for challenging them... Unfortunately the world is becoming more and more of a marketing-reality. Something can be marketed as anything. AT&T decided they'd rather call their 3G a "4G network" rather than update to 4G... Sandisk decided to call their Class 4 a "Class 4" without any sort of technical evidence of it complying with the standard... and who's going to stand up to them, just like who's going to stand up to AT&T? Very sad state we've gotten to.

Does PNY make Class 10 16 or 32gb cards? In searching on Amazon 32gb Micro SD Class 10, I'm seeing Lexar, and Patriot. The Patriot gets mediocre reviews saying that it dies frequently, and is incompatible with many devices. I'm thinking of buying the Lexar, but I still haven't seen anyone post any better read\write speeds, so I'm wondering if the Samsung can even read\write faster than class 4.

Wanting to buy @ Amazon... I have $300 in gift cards on Amazon, so need something I can order from them. Not a fan of Newegg as they charge Tax in CA, and their "standard" shipping is slooooow (up to 10 days the last couple orders). I have Amazon Prime free 2 day shipping, and no tax here in CA, so I'm trying to stick with them.
