Saving and Restoring Layouts - HTC Inspire 4G

I have tried searching but haven't found an answer.
Being a relative newbie, I like trying out different ROMS. Is there a way of saving page layouts that can be restored once the new ROM is loaded, or do all my previous pages have to be recreated by hand?
ex-egll

Too many variables and too much potential for config conflicts. best to recreate by hand, or flash less often

If you use a third party launcher and have a backup of that launcher, then when you restore the launcher your home page should be what it was..
Titanium backup..

None of the backup apps will restore the widgets. This is due to the way android works. you will have to reset up the widgets each time you flash a rom.

I was just about to edit my post to reflect the same.

I have been told that some of the launchers have backups within themselves though. I always use the stock launcher, so I can't, authoritatively, speak any further to it.

Possible to backup yout HTC Sense "Scene"

I want to switch between roms, then restore apps via TitaniumBackup, then restore my icons on their respective pages.
Possible?
I would love this... Would take a lot of the tedious 're-layingout' of the home screens every day or so.
This should be relatively easy I would think, since there are already 'saved' configurations in the ROMs.

i dont think ive ever heard of anyone finding those files, but i have heard talk of doing it before. any progress on that ever made?
TitaniumBackup DOES allow this to be done. I'm currently running DamageControl 2.07.2, and I restore my HTC Sense desktop everytime I wipe the phone or change ROMs.
Under Backup/Restore, find the one that says "[DESKTOP] HTC Sense", this will allow you to backup and restore the exact Sense layout you're running.
A possible side-effect that I've experienced is that after reboot my HTC widgets disappear, so I use RootExplorer (paid app) to re-install HTCClockWidget.apk under /system/app. That will take care of the disappearing widget.
Hope this helped!!
Fresh Kitchen can do this. Look under the tools tab.
id like to know where the folders are located. it'd really help gain some space.

Or you can just clear the data in SETTINGS > Applications > Manage Applications > HTC Sense
That brings the widgets back as well... Or at least, brings back the ability to re-add them
Doesn't that also wipe your home screens clean?

but it also means that you'll have to reconfigure the Sense desktop, making the backup and restore useless

Kitchen doesn't support 2.1 roms though. I once backed up my sms from the same screen the backup scene button is on and I restored it to a 2.1 ROM and it went completely wonky and I had to RUU!

[Q] Titanium Backup: Meaning of Colors and Symbols

What is the meaning of the different colors and symbols in the Backup/Restore screen?
you find it by using Menu => Legend, here is a screenshot
just found this out the other day
Thanks. Easy enough
You guys have any problems with TB? Like automatic batch back up not backing up...except maybe 2 or 3 apps?
Not me. Seems to be backing up everything.
Works fine here. Excellent app.

Hey, I had a related query, some apps show up on titanium backup that aren't actually installed. For eg. in my nexus 4 in India, Earth, wallet and such apps aren't supported. And these apps are highlighted in a bluish colour. But I'm just basing this on observation. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thank you!

I know this is an old thread, by almost two years, but if anyone out there is like me, I like being able to reference a document, image, sound, etc. when doing tasks, especially involving removing backups or anything that could potentially harm your system. So here is the latest Legend for Titanium Backup Pro 6.1.5.6

I've had that happen a few times too, not sure why
It certainly is, I'd love to see compatibility with multi window so I can look through my app drawer and maybe to operate a few other apps to check stuff like data or if it might be something I'd actually use. That's future speak though as a lot more apps would, too, need to be multi-window compatible.

It works if you're using a third-party launcher. Can be funky if using the system launcher though.

Using TiBu to restore launcher settings for a system launcher after changing ROMs can result in things getting REALLY messed up.

[MOD] Solution to Launcher Redraws on GB

Hey all, this mod is for those who are having launcher redraws on GB. This was an issue since GB was released. For those who don't know, a redraw is, simply put, when your launcher's icons all disappear but reload after a few seconds.
Here's what you do:
1) Get your launcher moved into /system/app. You should do this from a clean flash (edit the ROM.zip, put it in, and rezip the file). You could try to manually push this, but I don't know how that'll work. You could also try to convert it into a system app by using Titanium Backup PAID (thank you shawnshine for this one).
To get the apk for your launcher, you should uninstall it and reinstall it. Once you reinstall your launcher, go to /cache and look for downloadfile.apk. That's the app you just recently downloaded (in this case, it's your launcher). Save that downloadfile.apk, rename it to whatever you want, and move it into /system/app whenever you flash a new ROM.
2) Edit the build.prop for your ROM. Use Notepad++ and add this line at the bottom, without quotes: "ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1" Save the changes to your build.prop. You can manually push this and this seems to work as well.
This thread is really made so you guys could get the edited build.prop and push them yourselves. I'm including only the most recent GB ROMs.
3) Flash your ROM and enjoy less redraws. If you choose to manually push it, wipe your dalvik cache and fix permissions.
I take NO credit for any of this. jager555 was the one who mentioned #1. AntonX is the one who mentioned #2. Of course, all the build.props that have been edited belong to the respective developers who tweaked it and such.
If the developers have a problem with me posting their build.props here, please let me know, and I'll remove it.
UPDATE: Here's a short explanation of why this thread died down. When 2.3.6 was just released, I tried using this mod again to fix the build.props for all ROMs. Unfortunately, it seemed to be ineffective, so I dropped this completely. However, icy56 recently informed me that this still works on 2.3.6 (at least the newest ROMs), so I decided to pick this up again!
Below are the three most commonly used ROMs on this forum atm (Valhalla Black Edition, ICBINB 2.3.7 v2, and AOSP Style X). For those of you who haven't made the move yet, I kept the older ROMs in Older ROMs.zip.
Let me know how this works for all of you! I know it definitely made a difference on LauncherPro and GO Launcher EX.
Sick!! Thanks works great it was def an annoying issue.. I just moved the apk in root explorer and reinstalled into system app

hey just wanted to say i can attest that these settings do lessen the withdraws.
For launcherpro users, settings that have completely stopped withdraws for me are setting memory usage to low, not checking "prevent FCs", and checking "keep in memory"
EDIT: Forget this post. It was another issue.
Wouldn't using the "convert to system app" function in Titanium Backup Pro for your preferred launcher do the same thing?
I pushed it and didn't lose settings.. like I said I moved adw from data app to system app and then immediately clicked install and it reinstalled successfully
The launcher will fc if you hit home without reinstalling in system app

The only reason why I don't want to set the memory usage to "low" is because it makes my previews lag with 7 screens. Also, I've been reading that we should keep the memory usage as "high" instead.

What's causing your redraws? I usually get a redraw after playing Cut the Rope for a level or two, but now it doesn't happen at all.
Yay!! It worked. I played Nova 2 for a while and my launcher didn't redraw still!

Maybe you should try a fresh flash.

I put in the Beautiful SGS4G modded build.prop. Try manually pushing that into /system. Go into CWM, wipe your dalvik cache and fix permissions. Let your phone sit for 10-15 minutes afterwards to let the dalvik cache rebuild.
Keep in mind that wiping the dalvik cache and fixing permissions are optional, but it would be safer to do that.

[Q] How to restore categories and home screens?

Is there a way to restore categories and home screens when switching ROMs? I restored all apps except the ones in red in Titanium Backup, but that put everything in one big download folder.
Maybe my backup for root
I've googled around for a bit, can't find it.
My guess? First test out which ROM you want, then make it completely right one time.
Good luck with it.
