[Q] andriod.phone crash when adding image widget -with Gummy ROM 1.01 - General Questions and Answers

First off, I just want to say Hi to everyone on the forums, this is my first post, but I've been lurking for quite a while, waiting for the right time to flash my phone –Should have done it sooner
Also, I want to thank everybody involved here, especially devs, for all of their hard work! -- I’m really not trying to suck up here… Just trying to portray sincere gratitude --
Anyway, I tried searching the forums here for related issues, as well as, the interwebs, but didn’t find anything relevant. So I apologize in advance if this is a known issue or a repost… Also, I tried posting this issue in the Gummy 1.01 release thread, but I’m a newbie so, I have to post it here:
This past weekend I finally got fed up with the buggy STOCK ROM for my SCH-i500 (Fascinate) and took the plunge and installed the latest Gummy build available for it (1.01). Everything is running very well so far, and I only have a few minor gripes, but all in all, it’s pretty awesome! Except for one big issue that I found…
If I try to add a photo widget to any of the launcher home screens, the screen goes black, and the bootup animation starts up, followed by a window that states “android.phone has stopped”. This is how I did it:
Menu>>Add>>Widgets>>Photo Gallery>>Choose an image>>[select an image]>>Crop.
This does not happen when I choose the other two options (“Choose an album” or “Shuffle all images”). I think this is either an issue with ICS 4.04, or Apex launcher. I think this because the same thing happens with my friends Galaxy Nexus; he is running Liquid ROM - not sure what version - based on ICS 4.04 with Apex launcher. It’s a completely different phone and he has a different kernel, which makes me assume it might be related to ICS 4.04 and/or Apex. … I’m not sure though because I’m not a dev…
Is anyone else having this issue?
*Update: Tried it again, and it completely crashed the phone this time. I had to pull the battery out to boot. Also, the phone started in “Safe Mode”. I just rebooted one more time, and everything seems fine again…

I'm having the same problem with my Verizon G NEX, Ive searched online and haven't found anything except for this post its a pretty strange bug if you ask me. anyone know of a fix ?

Just an update for anyone who comes across this thread... The issue has been resolved in the updated version Apex that just came out (v1.1.0).

mt3g green screen problem

First let me start by saying hello to everyone and how much i love this website for its plethora of information!! I am have attempted for 6 hours today in attempt to fix my problem and will only post a thread as last resort. I have reached my last resort. Here is how it all started....
Today i decided that i wanted to have the new updated Android Market so i could pay for apps using my tmo account. i noticed that my cyanogen 4.2.15.1 and the previous ones before do not use the updated market (from what i have found, it causes some problem), but i was unable to find a way to just update the market. i have also been toying with the idea of switching roms (i have used cyanogen since i rooted my phone almost a year ago) and was thinking of a super fast Hero rom. From my research, i found one that i thought was the best of the best. getting in a little over my head and doing the proper research and educating myself, i jumped in (not a normal move for me, i tend to collect as much info as i can before a make this type of move but i was work and bored ). so i downloaded and flashed a new rom. here are a few things i did wrong:
I did not wipe before i updated to the new rom
I mistakenly flashed a Hero rom for a 32A phone, thinking mine was 32a (idiot)
I did not change my radio or spl's (from what i am now reading, that was a big mistake too)
so, obviously, the rom did not take and it froze on the green mytouch 3g screen for 40 minutes. no big deal, i thought a would just wipe it, then try again. same result. ok, i will just restore to my nandroid backup........unable to restore . panic started creeping in. ok, i will just redownload the 4.2.15.1 cyanogen i had and WIPE and flash it. after attempting this many many times, it still freezes on the green mytouch 3g screen. i even thought of using an older cyanogen, 4.2.9.1 i believe, thinking they use old info that was still on my phone. no luck. i have a feeling i am missing something very obvious and will feel totally stupid when you guys help me, but, i am stuck.
I would love to have a kick ass Hero rom and if someone can explain to me the proper way of doing so with a recommendation of the most kick assey one, that would be greatly appreciated, or if someone can kindly assist me to get back to my original cyanogen rom, that would also rock. thank you in advance and i know you guys will make whole again!

dark droid FC & crashes

I'm forced to post a new thread in general, as I'm not permitted to post on the dark droid forum (very very stupid policy IMO).
I rooted and got Dark Droid on my Droid 3. I loved its new functions and look. I've had it a week, today, and I'm going back to Gingerbread now.
I've kept tallies. 25 FCs, 3 freezes, 7 [edit - 9 now] crashes.
Not to mention so many UI glitches.
These problems seem to be random and have no common root. Always with different apps running, performing different tasks....... doing nothing at all...
It's horribly unstable and I feared that keeping it on my phone just a little while longer might leave me with a brick. Yay brick...
I'd be very happy to try a fixed version since, as I said, I love its look and feel. Until then, I'm sticking to bread and butter.
Merh :/

My point is to let someone know of these problems, hope that this shot in the dark gets to the right people.
As I said, I can't post where it belongs. I'm not just going to make 10 spam posts for the permission.
I really don't care at all as I have no intent on staying here anyway.
Just wanted to report the bugs.

[Q] Phone (G2X) Freezes after long calls

Hi,
I rooted my phone a couple of days back & upgraded to ICS using Hellfire v1.8 rom.
Since I was getting lags, I also got the flak0's lag fix.
I have started facing an issue the phone would freeze post a long call on the phone screen, I can't even get it to reboot by pressing 'lock+vol up' button. The only way is to remove the battery & put it back.
I saw a similar issue seen in this thread from partzman2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28342782#post28342782
But unfortunately, I am unable to comment on the thread as I don't have enough posts in my name. I searched the forums for this issue, but couldn't find a solution.
Any help is appreciated.
My sincere thanks to dev folks
Just wanted to take a moment to thank the dev folks who put in a lot of work in creating these roms/mods - experience is so much better, I can't even begin to explain.
I have had g2x for more than 14 months now & I had been running stock froyo 1st & then GB (2.3.3) - the experience was so bad, that I used it only for making phone calls or occasional emails, as i couldn't even browse or do anything w/o hitting some problem or the other. Even phone calls used to crash at times.
After updating to ICS, I haven't stopped using the phone be it browsing, watching you tube videos, trying new apps, emails etc, with occasional phone calls .
Again, thanks a lot for so much hard work, its really appreciated.

Hi, welcome to XDA :fingers-crossed:
I have some sort of sad news for you. In general-- ICS on the G2X isn't really stable right now. A lot of rom's have problems with lag after a few weeks, graphical errors, rebooting, and phone calles (as you mentioned). I'm not sure exactly how to fix your problem, but I had it too. I couldn't find a suitable fix, so i went back to Cyangogenmod 7 (gingerbread)
The latest nightly (newest build uploaded on their server) is available here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=tenderloin
If you are NOT using the march 2012 baseband, flash "old_baseband.zip". I am looking for the file (not sure what thread it is in).
What baseband are you one?
Also, If you must try ics, i suggest Owain's build 77. It's one of the most stable I've found so far.
I'll update post soon.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I went through quite a bit of dev threads before deciding to go with ICS - I was quite curios about its features & was ready to take the risk.
Only thing is that owain's recent 79 build seemed to have quite a bit of issues from the posts, & hellfire seemed a bit old/stable, so went with that. I didn't consider using old owain's builds (which might be an overlook from my part).
Is there a way I can find what I might lose (& possibly gain), if I switch to owain's 77 build?
I am using Jul15, 2011 baseband & kernel is 2.6.32.59-CM9-faux123-050.
Is there a better baseband/kernel that I should try?
I switched the kernel to harsh kernel & I feel that the speed has improved, but "freezing on a call randomly" issue still exists. Also, it crashes & reboots once in a while but I still feel that its worth all the pain as now I am actually able to make use of the phone.
Blazing Angel, did you find the latest baseband which I can try using?
Another bug I found is that I cannot really configure the lock screen buttons/shortcuts - as in adding a an app to be able to accessed from the lock screen like we do for camera. I see the option of changing this in setting but it doesn't persist when I try to change it.
Anyone seeing this?

The latest baseband is march 2012. To update, you need to install Tmobile's V21Y update.
Follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674901
Note: If you install this, and try to use a rom other than CM7 7.2.0, you need to flash owains New_baseband fix after flashing a rom from here
http://owain.hopto.org/T-Mobile LG...w_baseband.zip
Hi just want to add info with new baseband the bluetooth doesn't work.

some of that i experienced my self , most of the times the camera and hdmi port is sacrificed in the g2x
Thanks for the info guys. Say my gps works/locks already (takes a bit of time though) with the hellfire ICS, is there anything I get by flashing this new baseband?
Does it or would it fix the random freezing on calls by any chance?
Basically, I read the instructions & it seems that I'd have to go back to stock, unroot & then re-root + reflash + restore my apps etc - seems like too much if I am not getting something out of it.
If it doesn't add much value, then I will consider doing it once another stable version of hellfire or owain's rom is released..
BTW, did anyone experience the lock screen config issue I posted in my earlier post - basically I can't add custom short cuts to the lock screen, there is an option to do this in the settings but they dont stick (I am on hellfire v1.8 right now)

Flickering screen

Hey guys so I've got a huge issue. I'm on now my 3rd SGSIII and I'm getting very annoyed. My screen goes nuts randomly. I think I've found a fix, but I'm not sure what's causing it, as most people don't show the symptoms. My screen starts flashing and flickering, whether it's the lockscreen, the homescreens, within an app or in the app menu it does the same thing. I haven't taken a video of it yet, but will if someone wants to see what's happening. I've had it happen only on JB, both roms and stock doesn't seem to matter. The 'fix' is the same one as AOSP rom users use, which is to disable hardware overlay, however I don't know why a non-AOSP rom would need to deal with this. The roms I've used are: Vengeance, CleanRom, Synergy and The Executioner. I've gotten so annoyed that I've gotten Verizon to allow me to switch to the DNA if I want. I've taken a few Logcat's, if someone who can decipher them more than I can to figure out what's actually wrong would be great! I've taken a bunch of logcats, but only have one posted to pastebin. It was taken whilst I was having the issues. Thanks for the help guys!

Nope, I don't run that stuff because all of the rendering updates and stuff can get annoying to look at while working. I'm able to get the same issues on a fully stock rom, and a pure flashed rom, with a few programs installed. But the fact that the hardware render seems to be the issue to me is just very odd on a non-AOSP rom.
I have been having screen flickering issues ever since I flashed the latest AOKP build (AOSP) I originally thought that it was because of the kernal and the under voting that I applied but even with a different governor and normal volt settings the screen still flickeres. After some poking around I figured you that it is only happening while I am trying to type and by uninstalling the Swype beta keyboard the screen flicker had been reduced to almost nothing. I do not know why the keyboard would amplify the effect but if I use the system keyboard the flickering becomes almost non existent.
Also, the screen flickers anytime a pop up menu is on screen, such as in the tapatalk app, the menu that pops up to allow you to quote someone..

Had been having the same issue on Baked Bean 6, flashed BB7 last night and it seems the problem is gone. BB7 being 4.2.1 I'm guessing whether intentional or not somewhere along the process of updating the "bug" if it indeed was as it appeared was squashed.
I'd be curious to know what was causing this, if by chance you find a definitive answer please post it.
Thanks
Lk
I had a very similar issue for a while, i flashed LEAN KERNEL
Rebooted twice, and problem went away.
For an update, I flashed kt's latest kernal and the flashing has ceased.

[Q] Crombi-KK gets very sluggish within a few days.

In the beginning of December '14 my tf700t had become so sluggish that I decided it was either ditch it and buy a new non-Asus device - or be adventurous and look into how to unlock, root and install Crombi-KK. Since I had nothing to lose and prefer using my old hardware, I decided to go for 'adventurous'. I did my homework and everything went well. My tf700t ran buttery smooth, and I was overjoyed. My first attempt at tinkering with anything android was a success.
Then after a week or so things started slowing down. Lags, crashes and freezes. Having to reboot the device every 5 - 10 minutes, which obviously I couldn't live with, so I factory wiped from TWRP, reflashed and once again my tablet-life was full of joy. This story has repeated itself so many times that I've stopped counting. On Jan. 6th I did yet another restore, and this time I did a nandroid to make life easier when once again I have to restore. This process is fast becoming tedious, though, and obviously it's not a permanent solution to my problem, so I hope someone will take a look at a couple of catlogs and please tell me what's going on, as interpreting these logs is way beyond my skills.
Not knowing much about flashing custom roms, I go with SBdags default settings when I flash. Freezes, crashes etc. seem to happen with all apps, but in particular with Dolphin Browser. Sometimes I notice that the back of the device tends to become warm.
I installed Autokiller Memory Optimizer - but the tablet crashed within minutes .
I'm sure you'll need further info to be able to point me in the right direction, but unsure exactly which, so please do ask.
Thanks a bunch
While I can't say I'm smart enough to give you a great answer like SDBags himself, I can offer whats worked for me. I've noticed this too as a general trend that seems to be specific to the TF700 itself, regardless of your ROM. For all of his wizardry SDBags can't change hardware and the TF700 is starting to get very long in the tooth. When I feel like mine is acting up I back up the app data and just reflash the ROM. That seems to set everything back to a good spot. As for heating up that might be from overclocking the CPU, I can't remember if thats a default option but I feel it always helps. Play around with Zombi-Cat if you haven't already tried it.
Cheers

Actually, hearing from another tf700/custom ROM user with the same experience is a great answer in itself because now I know that flashing a custom ROM on a TF700 hasn't solved all problems for everybody but me. I'll stop worrying that there's something I did wrong and thank Asus for selling me a crappy product and make me learn about unlocking and flashing custom roms without being afraid of bricking it and/or turning it into a fantastic baby bob-sleigh.
Britta
I should add that my post wasn't meant as a criticism against SBdags and Crombi-kk at all. I'm very grateful that I can learn from him and other devs and users here.
