Can No longer Reply or Forward from any email account - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using Custom Spark ROM for HTC Trophy and suddenly I can no longer reply or forward an email from any of my 4 email accounts. Has anyone experienced this?
I don't know if it's ROM related problem as the Trophy forum doesn't really get much activity at all so I thought I'd ask here.

Umm... could you at least identify which (of the dozens of options) custom ROM you're using? For that matter, what phone are you using - there are two different devices called the HTC Trophy (Verizon sells a CDMA+GSM one called Spark_W internally)?
A much better place to ask this question, aside from the Trophy forums in general, would be a ROM-specific thread. I assure you, the rest of the world has not spontaneously lost the ability to respond to email on their Windows Phones.
It would also help if you described the problem in any degree of detail. Is there an error message? Are you able to write the mail, but not to send it? Do the Reply/Reply All/Forward buttons not work at all? Can you compose mail and send it normally (not as a response)? Are you still receiving mail (i.e. connected to the Internet and able to sync with the server)? Did you recently connect to a WiFi network that you don't normally use, or get a new ISP (some ISPs block the SMTP ports to force you to use their own email servers. These ISPs suck and should be avoided, but you may not have known that about them)?

version 7.10.8107.79 DFT ROM FOR SPAR-W VERIZON VERSION OF THE TROPHY is the ROM I'm using for Verizon Trophy, CDMA.
Doesn't seem to matter if I'm using WiFi or 3g. Started out if no where.
What happens is I click the reply button then I see the pop up with Reply Forward and Reply All. No matter which one I select the pop up window goes back down and I still see the email I wish to reply too. I can receive and even create and send new emails.
I haven't connected to a network I don't normally use.

Did you load any particular app just before this started occurring or make any changes to anything in the phone (registry, settings, etc)?

email problems

hi,
i am having an issue on my TytnII where i cannot get my email to download from Yahoo.
in pocket outlook, almost mediately when i click send/receive i get 'error syncronising' in bottom left hand corner then a bubble appears with 'cannot connect : cannot connect with current connection settings....'.
any idea whats causing this?
i can get web access no problems and all other comms seem to work fine. Just can't get email to work.
any help appreciated!
p.s. my phone is a UK O2 Stellar (unlocked) and i'mm on t-mobile, dunno if that makes any difference. Standard 02 ROM i think.
if you're positive that your out and inports are set correctly
and ssl and the likes are set correctly
then maybe your cellphone network may be blocking those ports
in which case you can try the same using wifi bluetooth or usb to performe
the same operations
using Wifi i can get a bit further so there is definately and issue with my email contacting the mail server via GSM.
But i think there are also issues with my setting so i will try that first, when i get it working solid through wifi i will try to sort the GSM issues.
thanks,
i have it working fine over wifi now but still having same issue with GSM.
any idea how to resolve? change ports?
i had email working fine on my old phone (hermes) using same SIM and email address.
hi,
i am still experiencing the problem listed in the initial post.
I can connect to internet and browse websites, can access mail on yahoo website, MMS and SMS both work fine but still get 'error syncronising' and 'cannot connect : cannot connect with current connection settings....' when i try to use pocket outlook to download my POP mail.
it works fine when usig WiFi so must be an issue to do with the setting that pocket outlook uses for connecting to web but i cannot see where i can change this.
any help appreciated.
all the experts on this forum who know WM inside out and noone has even a suggestion to help with this problem?
sorry if it is too simple for you, but quite simply, i don't know how to fix it!
Hmmm,
I would say you answered your own question! It just looks like your GSM network provider is blocking this ports since your email settings seem to be correct (otherwise it would not have worked via Wi-Fi either!), so, you will have a hard time finding a solution.
However, here a not-so-convenient workaround:
If you can access other (non-YAHOO) pop-email accounts, try to forward all incoming YAHOO email to that email account, then set also your outgoing messages regarding to the functioning pop email account but as reply email use the YAHOO.
Try to contact your GSM network provider's technical stuff to verify your settings / ports. If they can asure you that this ports are not blocked, well, then there is only 1 other party to contact: YAHOO themself!
If you are a paid YAHOO SUBSCRIBER and you upgraded to the pop email account at YAHOO, they might be able to walk you through. If you use only YAHOO's free email: the free service does not work with pop email clients - only via their webmail.
hi,
thanks for the suggestions.
i am fairly convinced it is nothing to do with Yahoo as i can access when using wifi so that rules them out (no?) it also confirms the pop settings etc are correct as i can send and received mail with no problems.
using GSM I can access the rest of the web and i have previously used the same sim in another WM device to access email with no problems so forbidding a change to t-mobiles policy at exactly the same time as i switched phones i think it leaves only the phone as the possible cause.
i have tried t-mobiles technical helpdesk who are still to get back to me after 3 days... i am not holding my breath.
i think it may be something to do with it being an O2 phone/ROM and that it may be trying to connect using their settings when using email? does that sound reasonable?
i will flash a new ROM in the new year when i get new satnav software to replace the dodgy copy of TomTom on the device when it was delivered. hopefully that will solve it.
Thanks for your help.

Can't reply to SMS

For the past 2 weeks, I've been bugged by this error message when I'm replying to an SMS:
"The message was not sent to one or more recipients. To verify address and network coverage, select Retry. To save to Drafts, select Cancel"
I have reflashed my Omnia with 3 different roms and I still get that error whenever I reply to an SMS. I'm now on my 4th rom (M2D04).
I had Vito SMS-Chat installed in the previous roms. I did not install it now thinking maybe it was the culprit.
Have anyone else experienced the same problem?
Now I'm really pissed. I reflashed again, now using Secany's HK3 rom. Didn't install any apps, just wanted to check if the problem with replying to SMS will be gone. But I still get that error message!!!
have you made sure your operator settings are correct
My operator settings are correct.
Sometimes I can send/reply to messages, but most of the time I can't.
I've seen similar problems get resolved by checking this option:
Go to messaging-->menu-->options. Go to the address tab and make sure under 'In contacts get email addresses from' it reads 'All email fields'.
Try giving it another shot now.
Thanks, I'll give it a try!
No luck. Still can't send/reply SMS.
I am now suspecting my telecom provider is blocking SMS coming from Samsung Omnias. Is this possible?
Here's the situation:
The telecom provider (Telecom A) I'm using is aggressively promoting the iPhone 3G. Another telecom (Telecom B) is marketing the Samsung Omnia. Here, the iPhone is losing to the Omnia. So is it possible that Telecom A is sabotaging the Omnia if you use Telecom A's simcard on the Omnia?
I switched my sim in the Omnia to that of Telecom B's last night. So far, all my messages were sent without any problems. If I didn't encounter any SMS errors until tomorrow, then I think my theory is right.
Also, I have 2 other friends who have Omnia, one is using Telecom A, and the other is using Telecom B. The one using Telecom A also have the same problem as mine, while the one using Telecom B haven't encountered it yet.
Ahhh, CONSPIRACY ALERT!
No, I doubt that your theory is correct! You forget one thing: your "Telecom A" earns money while you're sending a short message - no matter what phone you're using! They surely promote their own phones when you sign up for a service agreement or upgrade your existing plan; however, what they want you to do, is, to make many calls and send plenty messages because that is what they rely on to make money.
I really think that something in your settings is still not correct - this is the only one reason why it won't send out your messages!
Using Telecom B's simcard on my Omnia the whole day today, no problems with SMS sending.
Regarding the settings, if there are incorrect settings, then I won't be able to send a single SMS. But there were times that my SMS goes through.
I was thinking.....maybe its just sim/signal issues more to do with the combination of Telecom A + your Omnia. Figures...because your saying it works perfectly fine on the other chip. And that automatically rules out anything to do with the roms or the device itself. I've seen issues like these...and well sometimes....there really is no explaining them.
But I never experienced this when my phone was still new and on G3 rom.

advice on instant messenger

I am coming from a Tmobile Sidekick. Im not sure if many of you are familiar with that phone, and if you are not, don't familiarize yourself with it.. worst phone ever.
The one feature i liked about it was the fact that even if i lost service and got an instant message through their IM client, i received it when i regained service, no matter if it were 1 minute later or an hour later. My guess is that the messages were saved on the server till the phone sent a message to the server that i actually received the message.
Now, I am a ATT Fuze (raphael) user and I dont know which clients use the same mechanism. I know the original messenger that comes with the phone does not, and neither does AIM mobile.
Does anyone know any messenger which uses such a mechanism? The reason I am asking if in my work place I do not always have service, and do not want to lose messages.
Palringo might, but I'm not sure.

Picture mail: unsuccessful

i had this error yesterday.fixed it by installing the sprint RUU...im back on fresh 1.1 btw...heres the deal though, yesterday i was getting picture mail errors,id get the "download" button,id push it..n it would give me a "download unsuccessful" message..tried it on the stock app and on handcent and id get the same thing..i looked it up on google n seems other people have this issue too,but no clear fix..just wondering what the problem is?and what's the fix besides resetting your phone back to factory settings...i'd really hate to do this over again if this starts happening..
ps: when i get pic mail,it shows up as a "download" button instead of the slideshow viewer.not sure whats up with this.
edit: i had called sprint customer support yesterday, they transfered me to tech support, tried sending me a picture n didnt work as well...so i just "reformatted" the hero to stock with the sprint ruu.
Im starting to think there was a problem with the Sprint picmail server or something because I had the SAME problem only mine just kept saying downloading and never opened. I then Ruu back to stock and rerooted and flashed Fresh 1.1 and everything was fine again but from what Ive read ALOT of people had this same problem so Im thinking it HAD TO BE something to do with the service. Which means I spent over an hour for nothing, lol
Word lol.freakin sucks.annoying as hell..u think it was just their pic mail service that as down or what couldb it be?cause when u reformat the phone it all starts working again....also,when u get pic mail,do u still get the slideshows or just the download button?
you guys made sure ya wasnt on wifi? my picture messages NEVER worked while i was on wifi on my G1 or Hero, i always wondered why though!
Yup.WiFi was off.I had that happening hen I first got the phone..but this time it had nothin to do with WiFi.it was more like an error.like if the download link was broken or u didn't have picture mail service..its weird.
Yeah there's a problem with MMS downloads when on wifi.
Think it has somethign to do with redirecting data through the wifi network when connected.
Yeah, it's not the Sprint network, its the phone. Pretty much all of out HTC Hero's suddenly develop that problem 4-5 weeks after purchase. A hard reset is typically the only fix. And no, currently pic mail cannot be sent or recieved on wifi. Though we are working to fix that bug. I get this issue countless times a day, along with "I can't play YouTube videos". And my all-time personal favorite, and the most common, is "I set a pattern lock and forgot it, and now it's asking me for my gmail information and I don't remember my email adress or password." But yeah, I've tried everything under the sun on our side of the network to fix the hero pic mail, and nothing works aside from a hard reset.

Why bother!!
There are two issues here 1 is plain old sending email, the other is picture mail.
On wifi I can't send from gmail . I can send from accounts of both the isp and a web based mail provider. On 3g I can't send from the isp account. I can send from gmail and the web based account. Asking sprint why they block sending from the isp account, they reiterate some company policy. Asking the isp why they block gmail, same answer. As far as I can tell they both refuse to agree to share mail packet user info as it could lead to "spamming" (really loss of customer reliance on their services). Ok some redirection (and encapsulation) from sprint to the isp of email would be needed, but so what.
Now as for the second issue, If it sends email, the account will send picture mail. just verified it.
Could you clarify what you mean? What ISP are you talking about? If you have an email through your ISP, it could be your ISP blocks POP access to their outgoing servers. I know Cox does this, but I ahve found taht changing your outgoing port to 465 will still allow you to send. So if you are more specific with your problem there is a god cahnce I can help you out.
I was having sms/mms issues last nite while at a club...met a couple girls, they texted me,the phone vibrated, sayin i received texts then it would delete them...i was using hanecent...i uninstalled n tried chompsms, problem kept going...meanwhile,just out of curiosity,i tried to update the profile n prl,id get a "1012 error.cant update"....rebooted the phone a few times and nothin,i finally uninstallled chomp n handcent,n started using the stock message app,n voilllaaa..i would receive all sms n mms......this morning i tried doing the updates again and they actually worked....im not sure what the problem is/was...im guessing either 3rd party app's hide/delete messages or maybe a phone or network problem...as of now im leaning more towards the sms app's..cause as soon as i uninstalled,i had a buddy sending me pics n they started showing up.....theres an app in the market, called unread sms or somethin like that, which is to show hidden messages...i tried it but didnt work.just thought id point this app out so you guys know this is a known bug...hopefully newer 2.xxx roms will fix this,or maybe this problem will land in the right hands cause its freakin annoying and a serious ****-block lol....
Yeah, it's not the Sprint network, its the phone

Not to completely disagree, but the only time I've had this issue is when my web signal is poor. I don't know why, but for as long as I've been with sprint, my major issue has always been why, at times, if my phone has a signal of any kind, it won't work. And that's been with any phone I've ever had with sprint.
As a matter of fact, the only time I get the "download" button is when the signal is poor. I had a "1" for web and received a mms. It kept failing, tried to browse the web, nothing. Waited about 30 minutes until I got back into good coverage, and it worked fine. That tells me it's the service not the phone.
Yeah, all day yesterday my phone wasnt recieving txts. Luckily I can just reprogram it. (you have to have your unlock code to do this.) But I use handcent, as probably does almost everyone here, and I've never had a problem with it. But there was a major txting issue with the heros yesterday, lot of customers complained about it. If it happens again call Sprint and tell them you need a ##DATA Restore done on your phone. That will take care of it.
Also, updating your profile is just updating your data profile, which is your username and password to use sprint data services. If your internet is working, no need to update your profile, and if its already working it's not suprising to get a 1012.
Your PRL is your preffered roaming list, just tells your phone which companys towers to use first if Sprint is not available. (Based on who is giving Sprint the best roaming rates for that period.) PRL updates only come out every quarter or so, so theres no need to try to update it. If you are within sprint coverage it makes no difference.
@Red250.
Hi. I spend at least 10 hours of every day helping Sprint Android users with every problem you can possibly imagine. I'm sure if you have no internet coverage that would be a problem with getting picmail, which is sent through the DATA network. But as long as you do have internet, they should come through. Yes, for the issue I am talking about, it IS the phone. When customers in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Washington DC, etc call in and have an EV on their screen with full signal, and they are getting a download button and download unsuccessful, I am definetely not gonna tell them they have insufficient coverage. So, considering you have only your own experience to go by and I have around 300+ cases per week from all over the country......I think that I can confidently say that I know what Im talking about.

Thanks. I have no problems using the isp's pop servers from the wifi, being hosted by the isp. I can not access the isp's pop outgoing server from sprint's 3g. That would require sprint to have negotiated a service connection from the isp, which would have required sprint to repacket (forward) my mail packets -so my original packets would appear to originate from the isp's out going server.
Sprint and google have this service. Sprint and the isp have reciprocal server blocking.
This was significant to me 3 months ago. Now it's a fact that i have accepted. I do receive from all accounts on both wifi and 3g. If i really need to send across server blocks, I log into the web mail editor page for either.

Can u post what the steps to reprogram it were?..i already have the password/code thing..thanks
We honestly do not block any servers. Its a simple matter of whether you ISP Email provider allows access to their servers while not using their internet service. If they don't, I can usually find a workaround. For example, if you have a gmail, you could use gmails outgoing server instead. The email will still come from your ISP email adress, just relayed through gmails SMTP servers. But I can personally assure you that Sprint is not blocking your email. We spend hundreds of man hours every week trying to help customers set up their email on their device. Your email provider may be blocking you, but sprint is not. I am currently looking at a list of email server settings and ports provided by Sprint to help you, the customer, to set up your emails on our phones. So I assure you Sprint is not cackling evilly while we block your email servers.
To perform a ##DATA Restore, which completely wipes your programming and then reboots your phone, then takes it back through Hands Free Activation, completely reprogramming it using the correct settings from our network:
1.Bring up you Dialer
2. Enter ##3282#
3. When given choice of View or Edit, touch Edit
4. Enter MSL (Master Subsidy Lock)
5. Touch 'User Name'
6. Press 'Menu' Button
7. Touch 'Restore'
8. Touch 'OK'
No personal data will be lost, this only reprograms the phone. Please allow phone to go through hands free activation process upon reboot.
I'm definately not gonna argue you'll know more about it than I ever want to. I was just stating an exception to the same problem. But you're comment about major cities and full coverage leads me back to my first statement. 5 years of driving cross country in a truck with sprint as my carrier I've seen both ends of the signal spectrum. With 3 different phones, from a flip phone, to a palm treo, there's been MANY times I can have a full signal, and the phone won't connect, or full evdo and the internet won't work. That's honestly the only pet peeve I've ever had with my service.
In case you cant tell by my activity, I'm bored as hell at work. And yeah, Sprints service is not the best. We do get some of the nicer phones, and we focus more on technology than building towers. But we do have the most reasonably prices plans, and you get what you pay for.

Had the same experience w/ my Hero... Would never work if WiFi is on even if I turned off the wifi as long as the message was sent when it was on it just would work. If u have that problem, turn off ur wifi n have them resend the message...

Can't send POP3 email on Softbank X05HT

I use Windows Mobile 6.1 with Pocket Outlook to access my POP3 account. Until some time last year, I was able to send and receive. Then, for reasons unknown I could no longer send, maybe starting in autumn or winter 2009. The error message says (I translate from Japanese): "Could not send one or more messages. Verify that your network is functioning and that your account settings are correct, then try again."
I finally got around to calling Softbank and they suggested that I look at the port number. Well, the Pocket Outlook interface doesn't actually have an option for port numbers but I suppose that "domainname.com:587" should work. 587 is the port number that my regular Outlook is set to. I tried that on Pocket Outlook now but it doesn’t change anything... Same error message again.
The Softbank guys just keep tellng me it's not their problem, I should change the settings. So... what do I do next?
I don’t think you can change the port number for pocket outlook. flexmail will give you the option. Which email provider are you using?
However Softbank has definitely block the ports and you might need proxy settings. therefore roll the ball back ask them to set it up for you
Bulldog, thanks. You can imagine that Softbank customer support isn't supportive at all. My email provider is Verio. In fact, this is company email (my own company) and others in our company have no trouble with this. They have Softbank phones, use the same settings that I use, use the same SMTP server and have no issues. You can definitely specify the port number as I described. "domainname.com:587" is definitely OK but this doesn't solve the issue. I called my company's IT support guy and he gave me access to his personal SMTP server. Again, I cannot send. He thinks that my specific phone or email account for some reason must be blocked by Softbank....
Alex,
I have forgotten to ask...are you using the original ROM or cooked one
Besides Have you ever test your device with another POP email account and settings (i.e like Gmail)?
Still uncooked. ANd now I am going to do exactly what you suggest: do a lot of testing.
1) Same POP3 account on a different Softbank phone / SIM that I will borrow from a colleague
2) On a different Softbank phone with my own SIM
3) With somebody else's SIM on my own phone
And, as you suggest,
4) Different, unrelated POP account on my phone/SIM
Any other combinations you can think of?
Hello Axel,
The Test procedures (1-4) you thinking of are solid. They should give the answers.
Cheers mate
Ha! I haven't gotten my hands on one of my colleagues' phones yet but I dug out my old X01HT, put in my SIM card, fired it up and tried sending from there. And guess what: no problem, with the same settings I have always used (don't need to specify any port)!!! So what does this mean? My guess is that something with my X05HT is wrong. It's not Softbank per se and it isn't Verio either. So it's got to be the device... Concur?
Yes, Now I would I also think it is the device. If you haven’t yet delete the Pocket Outlook Account and re-setup again, do that first. If that did not help then I am afraid you would need to make hard reset after backing up all your user data.
Hard resert did it
Hello Bulldog, one thing I did not think of was to perform a hard reset. The lady at the Softbank shoi did that today as part of their routine to get phones ready for repair. When she did that I figured might as well try once more and blow me down, that did it. We still don't know why it didn't work before the reset but at least it now works!
Thanks again for your help!
