[Q] ROM Toolbox - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm curious what people are doing with it. I usually enjoy tinkering with things, but I'm a bit cautious with ROM Toolbox since trying to get bold fonts to change too I've only managed to boot loop my phone. I see a lot of talk lately about screen resolution, but what else do people like to change? I'm wary of some of the UI options because its disclaimer (and after causing so many boot loops, I don't want to get into something I can't recover from so easily)

I love the toolbox, don't change your screen resolution, google apps and goodies hate that. There are font apps in the market, fontimizer I think us the name, never an issue for me.
If you want a snappier phone get v6 supercharger, I love it.

I use fontimizer currently but to me it seemed with toolbox that you could go to font installer preferences and select and replace individual system fonts one at a time. Of course you would need to know the names of the fonts you are replacing, and like I said since a wrong choice is a soft brick, experimenting is a bit tedious.
What do you use it for though? A sort of "all in one" for ROM manager, tibu, and root browser? What else?
I like the idea of being able to change so much but I don't know how to find out the safe margins for the skyrocket. And the only time I see toolbox mentioned in the threads here is in relation to LCD density.

[Q] Is there anyway I can apply a custom theme without rooting?

I want to use a different theme but I got my nexus s off Craigslist with no warranty so I'm scared to mess it up so I want to go around rooting.

Depends on how much you want to actually change,
Check out LauncherPro and ADW for starters, and you can always change your wallpaper. Beautiful Widgets is another app that can help. Anything beyond the home screen like fonts, and notification icons, I believe you have to root.
Gluck.

Yes you csan apply themes without rooting, but the themes will need to be built for a particular launcher.
Do a search in the android market for Home Replacements. Wait...Here...I've done it for you.
https://market.android.com/search?q=home+replacement
I use Launcher Pro Plus, but there are many out there. Some good some bad, but you should experiment with them.
Good Luck
You can skin, but you can't theme.

Best boot animation manager?

I know this has probably been touched on, bit I can't find through search.
What is the best boot animation manager?
Go to market on your phone, search boot animation and decide for yourself. Just because one of us likes 1 certain app won't necessarily mean you will as well.

Infuse Roms?

Hello everyone i just signed up and i own a Samsung Infuse 4G and ive been flashing some roms on it lately and i want to know in your opinion what is the best rom.
i tried zeus, and i like it but i hate build 5.2 and build 6, because of the fact that wallpapers do not scroll. live wallpapers do, but static ones do not. I love build 3 fixed for ZEUS because it has scrollable wall papers and the app drawer is transparent. i dont like the black background when looking through my apps i like it see through.
but, being build 3 it freezes quite a bit. i tried CM7, didnt like it. i want to try something else.
I hate flashing roms and testing them because every time i restore it gives me an error saying "No sdcard/.android.secure Found. Skipping restore of SD card apps." so i have to re install 1 by 1 the apps with titanium backup and its really annoying. once i reach my 10 post mark i will start to post in the developers thread but this is all i can do now.
in a rom in need stability, no freezing no non working elements, all that.
clean, simple and crisp.
no dumb animations to lag the os and use mass ram. clean simple and fast. id even use gingerbread with touchwiz 4.0 like on the samsung galaxy s 2 skyrocket LTE that has a very good stock OS. maybe there is a way to put that on my infuse? I want to try s.u.r.f.a.c.e. rom but that's a hard way to flash it
any suggestions?

You can always Port your own ROM. Just saying.
If all you don't like about ZEUS is the launcher's look, then you can use one of the alternative launchers available off Market... err Play... or whatever Google is calling its new and improved more privacy breaking app download thing.
Off hand, the two I can think of are GOLauncher and PhoenixLauncher. I currently use GOLauncher on ZEUS and like it quite a bit, plus it's free. I think I'm going to give PhoenixLauncher a go after some of the bugs are worked out.

I agree, and also I'd recommend GoLauncher as I use it on Zeus build 5.2 and love it. Give it a Try!
I don't like those launchers iv tried them, I like touch wiz 4 which Zeus build 3 has, so I am using this for now.
Has anyone flashed the s.u.r.f.a.c.e rom?

Yerp on the surface rom...super lite...has lots of add on apps...smooth,stable....
The reason that wallpapers don't scroll is a SAMSUNG issue, not a Zeus issue, a change they made in the new gb leaks, so they wont change, on any rom built from that leak. Build 3 is no more and outdated, so if you don't want another launcher I suggest keeping build 3 because I removed it from the server. And tw 4 is way too buggy and unstable, that's why it was removed and will not return.

Alright thanks,
And now I understand that about Zeus,
But anyway great job with it its still an awesome rom. I'll try to flash s.u.r.f.a.c.e
How can I flash surface from my current position (Zeus build 3 with the ruxk kernel)?
Thanks for your replies

Well I'm currently running Z.E.U.S Rom Build 6. When I was stock GB (for the short time that was) I used the TouchWizz 4.5 Launcher, and I'm using it now. Scrollable wallpapers plus you can flash icon themes. Here is the XDA Thread Link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061883
And the download itself:

Hope that helps man
From what i understand...its bad to restore all apps from TB, as some may not be compatible with other roms due to missing or added files
At least if your restoring the data part too

Boot Screen Animation Question

ok i haven't posted in a while but have recently been toying around with my phone again and i recently came across a boot animation i really want on my hero. i know a lot of people have moved on to bigger and better phones but i still use my hero every day i <3 the little phone.
Here's a link to the video of it. i tried changing the numbers in the DESC.txt file to change the resolution to fit the hero but i just get a blank screen then it loads on up. so what am i doing wrong? from what i understand that should be all i need to do to make it fit and work, or is it a bit more involved than that? is there something else that needs to be done like changing the resolution of every part file?

DPI- out of box

I apologize if this has been asked, I didn't find it on a search.
I can't recall the last time that I didn't have a rooted phone. I want to try out the nexus out of box for a bit before rooting, but I was wondering if I can change the DPI on a non rooted phone. I hate using stock phones where I feel like an old blind person from his big the words are.
Also, I have never owned a nexus. Since it's stock android, no bloatware from carriers, what are the benefits to rooting a Nexus? I've never messed with the clocking of the phones. I mainly enjoyed it for customization and DPI.
It may seem like dumb questions but while I may not be tech dumb I'm no dev!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
To my knowledge, it is impossible to change the DPI - or pretty much anything - without first rooting or flashing a custom firmware.

The stock OS has options under Display and also Accessibility to raise the size of display fonts. You may find this more satisfactory than changing the DPI, as the latter can screw up app interfaces.

Thanks, I will try this first. I've changed the DPI on all my rooted phones so I'm used to that. I'm just not sure when I will root the N5

I would say rooting a Nexus is like rooting any device.
You are open to many more possibilities android has to offer. As you've rooted before you know that already
But since you wrote that you've only done so for certain customisation reasons then there's a lot more you can learn if you want to.
I for one need root at least. Keep it stock image but rooted is a bare minimum.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
I would at least unlock the bootloader first, so that you do not have to worry about data loss when you do root.
