Samsung lists devices to get ICS. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

While obviously our device isn't listed, will an official build from Sammy help our developers?

The answer to that will always be yes. Official builds help port things like CM, AOKP, and other variants.

yes do to the fact even if we cant use the source (which actually google source is about oh 4000x better.)
The proprietary drivers is what we would after.

Cyan is beta on one X.

Just to see what is going on on the other One Series phone, looks like they have a fairly functioning Cyanogenmod already.
Hopefully we start getting the Dev's!
Hope this phone will have more visibilty in the next month.
It most likely will. This is still pretty new

Kernel source is a big part of getting AOSP working.
I don't think the Qualcomm One X got source, so they are probably where we are.

Tell that to ProTekk. AOKP release comes out later today for One S, w/ all components functioning. And that's WITHOUT any HTC source code.

Every One S is dual core. If you mean CM9 on the One X then I'm going to assume there will be different roms for the dual core and the quad core version.

Read the ReadMe text file.. #4 shows how to build a kernel - I think - this stuff is beyond me though...
And this is all for ME865...
Sent from my mind using XDA
This is just the Opensource motorola portions of the kernel for the ME865 (international version of the Atrix2), not the WHOLE opensource kernel, this will need to be merged with the google portions, to compile a full kernel.
Besides, we are already running this. Why not try our hands at AOSP kernels such as cyanogenmod, or AOKP, or something else.... we already have the motorola crippled kernel.... LOL...
why have they released the me865 but not mb865 source? I thought they were required to by licensing stuff, since the linux kernel is open source.

That is the catch, they get away with it, since the two phones are identical minus a few things for the mb865 since it is att&t specific.
They (motorola) can say that they released the source code, that was open, and claim that the AT&T specific parts are propietary, and then they will not release those parts, and so, the me865 will work on the mb865, minus the radio, and the audio. So.... it is all a game of what is really "open"

This is why I hate motorola, google at least has enough sense to keep things open even though they did not start the project. just like chrome, android was previously just an open source project that google took on. at least companies like htc are allowing the bootloader to be unlocked completely legally. I just did it for a family member, it voids your warranty, but so what, that is normally only a month anyways

It means we'll be able to have kernels built specifically for our device.

Exactly what he said!^^^…it means no more trying to force fixes into kernels...possibly fix screen flickers in AOSP Roms without checking disable hw overlays on every reboot... Being able to make oc/uc settings stick better and possibly get more of the S3s stock features ported into AOSP Roms... In general it means greater possibilities for all future S3 development!
I was wondering why there were so few kernels.
I'm pretty new to all this. Can we use this to compile and install?

MIUI v6 is still in its infancy stages and is still being worked on. When its ready, it'll be available.
As what others have said, we have a difficult time understanding what you want. Usually on XDA, you can't request someone to port a particular ROM, especially when those ROMs are already existent on the N5.

They're not outdated though? Cm nightlies are being released every night. A port is when one particular subject doesn't exist but exists for another device (or whatever it may be) to have it for your device.
A port isn't needed because it exists already.
Cm nightlies are released every night.
No one uses a bare bone aosp build. All roms use aosp as a base regardless.
Miui is relatively new and is still in beta.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
I think he's trying to say that he found a rom that he likes that is being built for a different device. He needs a guide to help him take that rom and port it to the nexus 5 so he can use it.
His example is MIUIv6, it's not developed specifically for this device so he'd like to try to port it using an updated 'How-to' porting guide.

Exynos source codes finally released to GIT hub

Here you go, http://git.insignal.co.kr/
Sorry for the stupid question but what am I looking at exactly?
Hopefully we will now start to see aosp and cyanogenmod roms.
I guess the question Im really looking to ask is how do we know by looking at the link that this is the source for our processor?
Well this is interesting
Great news for cyanogenmod

I've read articles back as far as april saying the source was already released. I don't think it is as much the source as it is the documentation..

Well first off, our processor isn't up there yet, but it will be here. They just started releasing source codes on November 1st. Second off its not just about asop and CM it's about being able to fine tune our custom kernels and current TW Roms. Also we will be able to create custom bootloaders for those models that have locked bootloaders that don't allow rooting.

Because of our processor. CM has no plans on working on or developing for the note 5. Unless a Dev takes on the project, that will be the only way we will see CM on our device.

That is your opinion. There are plenty other people who would disagree with that. ASOP and CM are the most popular alternatives to TW based roms. I, myself would love to see MIUI on my note 5, but that's not gonna happen.
