Wall charger - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So apparently out of nowhere my wall charger broke. It won't charge the tablet anymore. I know its not the USB cable since I tested it by using my PC .
I've searched and found some after market wall chargers for cheap. But wanted to check on here to see if anyone had any links to trust worthy and good replacement wall chargers.
Thanks in advance. : )

Same thing happened to mine and my aunts as well. Crazy. But I just bought a new one from ebay. Although it was an official Asus transformer cable and all. Honestly I see them for $29.99 on office depot. You can go on ebay and buy it for $15.49 if you take a leap of faith. Good luck.

I just emailed Asus support because honestly its ridiculous that it dies after only 4 months. Who knows, maybe they'll help me out and replace it free.

3rd party TF11 charger
I got a 3rd party charger, probably from ebay, that has been perfect. It does not remotely get hot, just barely warm, while the original was always hot.
The model is KZ328FK, USB connector, output 12v, 1500ma.
Sorry, I have no idea the seller or brand.
Looking at ebay today, there are a lot of the chargers available now and many come with a TF101 connector. This is a big plus.
I would forget the OEM original.

Seems I also have the same problem as you. Going to take in the TF-101 along with wall charger today to the Asus service centre.

Guys, my charger stopped working aswell, what kernel are you all using? I had flashed gueover 16b, i then flashed back to 16 and it worked again!!
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium

Charger
The original chargers have some sort of thermal shutoff. Many have found putting the charger in the freezer for a short time resets it.
Chances are your charger reset itself while you were changing kernels, rather than the kernel being the cause of the charger working again.
I have used test 13,15 and 17b, all with no issues.

You might find this interesting:

If mine ever breaks, or I just have some spare time & a 1-2 amp 12V power supply, I might just try and make a DIY charger

Car Charger and Wall Charger

As far as i can tell i have not had an shutdowns or lockups etc.. while using the LG charger that came with the G2x. I had been using the one that came with my Nexus One and it seems that almost every time i have used it, i would get a shut down or a reboot or black screen of death etc... usually at a full charge. ie i would wake up in the morning to a unresponsive phone.
Has anyone bought an extra wall charger or a Car charger that did not cause any issues? If so where? Did anyone buy the ones ("They call it a Universal charger" ) directly from TMobile? Since technically in the manual LG says to use their own charger..but i thought all manufacturers say that.
I am wondering if the one that came with the Nexus One has the built in circuitry for not letting it get to much voltage or whatever they are supposed to block. I have seen some online that say they have something built into the charger...which not having it may be the issue.
I thought the phone does ..switches to trickle charge when almost full. At least my Nexus did... but i get lock ups sometimes no where near full... with the G2x. And i get it every so often with my Car charger too.
Thanks
I've been using the ones from my HD2 no problem yet.. :knocks on wood:

Before you go out and buy a generic charger from Ebay, make sure you check out the miliamps on the chargers. The G2X AC charger is 1000 mA which is pretty high. My previous Samsung phone was 700mA which was less. If you buy anything that has a low mA rating it will take longer to charge. I bought a cheap generic charger from Ebay before and it was rated at 300mA!!! That's barely enough to keep the battery level the same while you use your phone or have it on. Don't use your USB plug from your computer because the mA is very low and you will run down your battery having your phone on. A good 2nd home charger is the Blackberry AC charger. They are under $5 from Amazon and they are 700mA.
http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-Folding-Blade-Micro-Charger/dp/B001LRPN0S/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
For the car buy this Motorolla charger. 950mA! and about $6
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Vehi..._1_6?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1304028805&sr=1-6
Thanks for the input everyone. I will look into grenademastas suggestions.
Just an FYI... still
...as far as I know, i have not had a "self reboot" (well no lockups for sure... self reboot you have to look for i guess...) since i began using the charger that came with the G2x as my primary charger, for overnight charging.
I also started rebooting my phone once a day when i take it off the LG charger.
And also since i did this, I have not woke up to a "unresponsive" phone where i had to do a battery pull. I was using my Nexus Ones charger as the primary charger.
And i had switched from Launcher Pro to Zeam. So i will try going back to Launcher pro for a few days and see what happens. As i thought original it was Launcher pro causing reboots and lockups. Zeam is pretty fas so if no lock ups , i am not sure what i will stick with.
Thanks for the link, I ordered one for each car. Ive seen a few Micro USB chargers locally for $10-$15 but they never list the ma on the package.
My current charger can only keep up with the N1 when not running GPS. it barely keeps the G2X steady

Trust story. I found a micro usb charger in my closet and started using it the same day I got my phone because the cored was longer. It was taking FOREVER to charge and when it was at 100% if i started using it while plugged in it would still drain to like 97%. I was like wtf everyone said this phone charges faster than others. Then I checked the specs of the charger and realized it was the charger for one of my old bluetooth headsets and the output was only 150mah .

[Q] Help it won't charge

Just got the battery warning so I plugged it in and to my surprise nothing happened ... checked the plug, restarted.. it just won't charge . When I turn screen off and plug it in the screen turns on but it doesn't charge .. is it busted?

Are you plugged into a wall socket? If you are trying to charge through USB from a computer, it won't charge unless in sleep mode. Even then it will charge slowly.
Plugged into a wall socket atm.. iv tried from a computer I don't get a charging icon like I used 2

Right I just got mine working... try this pull the plug apart and put it back together now squueze them together as tight as you can and try that. Its working for me now ..

It just doesn't work. How is the usb cable connected to your adapter? It just gets in both ways.
Can you send me a picture of how the three parts are fit into each other?
its only suppose to go in one way, just like conncting any USB devices. But tried that, dissemble the adaptor and put them together, it actually happened to me once too, did exactly that and everything fixed. Remember you gotta squeeze pretty hard to put the two pieces together.
Thanks guys, its working. But this is ridiculous, you have to do a dumbbell roll to fix battery plug
i cant get it too charge and i just got it in the mail. why the hell it even come with this wack ass plug in the first place. what a horrible first impression!
I suggest you dont even use it, its dangerous. Mine melted the first day I got it. I went to bestbuy and got a replacement that works great. It charges at 11 volts/1.5 amps

This seriously works?
I just hope the voltage is right... I've tried different adapters for my phone and then my phone started acting weird (like it didn't take calls and would freeze at times). Replaced the adapter and it returned to normal again.
My TF adapter also gets really hot when charging.
Thanks for the recommendation.
I put some petroleum jelly on the metal prongs and smashed it on the counter a few times AFTER snapping it in.
Unfortunately I did them at the same time and didn't test in between so i don't know which if either or possibly both fixed it but mine is finally ****ing charging.
What a headache. I'm really bothered by ASUS for issuing such a faulty component.
I'm probably going to pick up that dynex tomorrow, because I just KNOW this will break again and mysteriously lodge itself into my drywall.
I just had the problem and discovered that the 5 forward pins on the power adapter are apparently quite easily deformed.
The charger is dual output, 5v and 15v.They use a USB3 connector, with the 15v quick charge output on those pins. I expect that they use the old USB 2 pins behind them to supply 5v for a slow charge, and PC data/charge connection.
Just prior to this, I had tried using an extension USB3 cable on it, so that I could use it while charging, and I suspect that was just enough to deform a couple of the 5 pins in the charger, and I got no charge at all from it, even after putting it back to normal. After an hour, the charger was still cold, and no indication of charging on either the tablet or with the table and keyboard attached.
With a good light and strong magnifier, I could see that a couple of the pins (of the 5 in the front) looked a bit recessed compared to the others, and carefully used the tip of a very fine needle to lift all of them just slightly. Having done that, the charger came to life when I plugged it back in, and the TF is indicating that it is charging.
I don't know how solid or permanent the fix will be, but it is working for me now.

My Charger melted

wtf...
tablet wasnt charging. The charger was plugged into the outlet with the usb cable connected.
i noticed my tablet was dead and when i go to charge it, i feel the cable is hot..
then notice rubber/plastic casing that covers the pin connection, is melted.
(the part with ASUS name)
not sure where to see the model number. i just smelled it and its not good... fawk
I wonder if they got the same company as apple to make the proprietry cables lmao
But seriously thats not cool send the pics to asus they will probably send you a new one and a cover or something to keep you happy

Contact ASUS, send them pics. Do Not send them the unit yet. If they don't replace it immediately, send it to UL Labs.
Asus tech support have the tendency to not think at all and just declare your warranty voided because the outside is melted or whatever. They always claim it's a sign you tamper with it.

i have to do so as well
With the history ASUS has with AC power adapters we all need to keep a watchful eye on our adapters. It appears they maybe under built. Meaning the components used in their construction are not big enough to handle the load.
Maybe we need to follow DEVCAKE's thread and build an AC adapter?

By the way my adapter died yesterday.
I've never noticed anything with my TF's charger (I just worry about the cable getting damaged at the docking connector), but now that you metion that...did notice that my Eee PC's charger always did get awefully hot at the brick :-S
So i called yesterday after i got lost in that crap website. most links would end up dead.
The rep gave me an RMA number and emailed me instructions.
I sent them an email with the pic. THanks for the suggestion. Hopefully i can get something resolved.
For now...i cant even charge the damn thing.
I know this is almost a month old since the last post, but curious to know, did they give you any push back or require the old 1 back?
Same here. My Asus charger is very very hot. I need to emphasize the very because its really very hot.
These chargers are very cheap. Running hot is a known issue and if it quits working put it in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer for 30 minutes. Sounds stupid but it will reset the overload switch in the charger. I've done it. I also don't keep my tab on the charger all the time.

Ever since I got my first asus product, (eee pc 2Gig surf) I have had charger issues. They always make them very flimsy. My transformers charger gets extremely hot as well. My grandpa owns a viewsonic gTab and the charger for that doesn't burst into flames like mine when he charges it. Thanks for the pictures, I won't leave it plugged in when its not charging anymore.

I had to do something like this with my ASUS netbook. It had an indicator light on it that would randomly stop working because it got too hot. Had to unplug it for up to an hour to get it to work again. On that note anyone know of any third party transformer chargers that work better/less hot?

Did you include the socket adapter (UK/usa/europe plugs)? Or just the bare adapter...
Have to send it in as well (getting it picked up tomorrow) and wondering whether or not to include the plugs/adapter.
i love how asus charges $50 for this overheqting piece of **** charger. if they are going to pull an Apple on pricing then the quality better be top notch
Mine died to (I don't really know from what but i'm guessing from overheating or some low quality issue), and I found a perfectly fine 12v output AC adaptater with USB port for 10$ in a supermarket. It's a little heavier but have a much longer cable and doesn't threaten to burn my house during the night.
But loosing the USB cable itself must be anoying.

help finding a Wall charger

hey guys, Its been driving me nut to find a right charger for my lg g2x from wind. I bought the phone used and it only came with a crappy usb car charger that doesnt have the right voltage. when i plug it in it goes crazy on the touch screen and stuff.
I already know it the charger and i had use my old blackberry charger on it and it work ok. but the thing is the amp on the BlackBerry charger is lower then the stock charger.
I need help finding a 4.8v 1a wall charger.
I already try ebay and got a cheap charger that is 5.1v and 700mah but it doesnt work it does the same thing where the screen goes nut.
I have an extended battery with charger but i would like to have a really ac wall charger as well. if anyone out there know where i can find the orginal or something that works just as good an doesnt do that funny touch screen crazinesss then I am all ears.
thanks in advance.
Amazon had them. I picked a extra one for a few dollars.
Hope that helps you out.

it makes no sense that a 5.1V charger would not work, i use my computer to charge most of the time and it is 5.05V on the USB. i think that you just got a bad cheap charger.
here is a moto 1st party one on newegg, it should do all that you want

Fasttech QI charger A021527514 $35

Ordered 19/2 Arrived 26/2 - 7 days from China / Singapore.
Comes with supplied charger.
Only had it one day.
Takes about twice as long to charge as a normal 2amp pregnant plug.
Looks good
After 2 weeks use
The charger works quite reliably with a TPC case on. The only problem is efficiency. It still takes twice the time to charge, and sometimes excessively long. Last night the phone was at 26% charge, put on mat, went to bed, after 10 hours was only at 76%. A cable charges it from flat in about 2 hours.

Fast Tech
Waiting for mine now, ordered on March 2nd...
AW: Fasttech QI charger A021527514 $35
Bought mine from Fast Tech too:
Charging speed is satisfactory but the battery temperature worries me a little...
The back of the device says:
Input: 5V 2A
Output: 5V 1A
And even apart from that it's pretty obvious, that it takes more time to charge wirelessly.
I'll try keeping the temperature lower by adding some sort of distance piece between charger and phone, maybe even charger and table - the little 'feet' on the charger's back are tiny...
Mine also gets much warmer on it than it does on the orb charger from Google/LG. Seems to charge fine though, I just use this one to top the phone off at work because its not secure or reliable enough to trust charging overnight.
How much did you pay for the original orb charger?
Google Play Hardware isn't available in my country

Like $70US shipped. Worth every penny to me. It secures the device (I have had no slipping with the 3 Orbs in my house) and charges reliably. To place the phone on it where it wouldn't charge would require it to be placed at a very unstable position that is unnatural.
IT sucks they aren't available but it probably has something to do with regulations in your country on these types of devices. Google probably needs some sort of certification first. Id offer to bootleg one to you but by the time its all said and done it would probably be $100US before it got to you.
I don't think it's because of regulations - no Google hardware has ever been available in Austria. It's just a small european country.
I could wait until it's available in Germany - they got all devices so far.
In the meantime I'll keep testing this Fast Tech charger.
The LEDs are enjoyably dim and it works pretty good.
But sometimes when the phone is at 100% already and it receives a message the charger beeps as if the phone has just been placed on it.
I'll keep investigating
Here's two pictures, display at maximum brightness.
ive got one but i cant connect and use it by any other input eg xbox 360 usb or a standard usb socket only uses adapter included ,I've sent 5 email saying this but they don't understand they keep saying check the charger supplied but that's not the problem,it will not work with any other usb powered input
Sent from my KFOT using xda app-developers app
I also tried using it with another adaptor (5V 1A) - whenever I placed the phone on the charger the right LED that flashes blue when charging turned red and the phone emitted a notification sound.
Using a Samsung Galaxy Note 2's adaptor (5V 2A) works - but only if the phone is placed directly onto the charger - using the adaptor that was shipped with the carger it also works if there's a gap of ~2mm.
Here's another picture of the charger, this time in a well-lit office.
good news and bad news ,good news is they have admitted its doest work on my usb charger or any other one apart ftom a pc or original charger and bad news is there still advertising it as powered from any usb port anywhere

Well, after a few weeks my resumeé is: It works - but only kind of...
- It emits lots of heat. It seems to stop charging at 40°C (red fault LED visible). Definitely not the best way to treat your battery.
- It's unreliable. Sometimes it doesn't start charging, sometimes it stops prematurely.
- It beeps.
So if you just want to use it in your office to keep your phone charged with short and sporadic usage periodes in between it should work, if you and your colleagues can stand the beeping each time you place your phone on the charger.
If you plan to use it as overnight charger or when the battery is rather dry, prepare to face disappointment.
But I guess that's all you can expect from a charger half the price of the original one.
Now I've got a new qi charger air box gonna set it up tonite box looks okay and theyvre even sent UK plug adapter looks good fast tech didn't Send one as far as I could tell they really was not bothered with my problems with there charger if you don't like it post it ,if its faulty its at your expense . fingers crossed with the air box one
