I was able to get an HTC One X (LTE) from AT&T last night. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

If you have questions about the AT&T version post here and I'll try to answer.
First few observations:
Lightning fast, there is no hesitation doing any action. It's a bit surreal coming from a Captivate.
Camera is awesome.
Thin, light, but solid build, looks good and doesn't feel cheap.
You can't turn off LTE. If you go into Settings -> Mobile Network, there is no option for "Preffered Network Mode" like on the Galaxy Nexus or Rogers HTC One X. Really hoping to get this fixed via OTA or custom ROM as there is no LTE anywhere near me.
Stock browser doesn't have a dedicated "tabs" button. You have to press menu to get to your tabs. Kind of annoying, not sure if that is just an HTC thing or if this is the first phone like that. I'm just going to start using Chrome since it has a tabs button.
Sense 4.0 is nice, it's not obtrusive and actually improves on the stock ICS experience instead of replacing it altogether. I love the WebOS style recent apps list. It really looks nice.
I read some people saying they were seeing some yellow wash out on some screens, and I think mine is OK, but certain apps, particularly games do have a yellow tint to them, but stuff like the homescreen and google maps look great. Temple Run has a pretty clear yellow tint to it when compared with a Galaxy Nexus running Temple Run. Not sure what to make of this. Maybe something else that can be fixed in an OTA.

It's cool but

But can you jump out of a plane and take pics with it?

They only had one in the box and I got it. It is a freestanding ATT store in a relatively small town outside Atlanta. The salespeople there are commission based, so he had motivation to sell it to me. First thing I even said to him was "You can't sell it to me today though, can you?" He said he could, so I had him ring it up. I just kept waiting for the bomb to drop that his system wouldn't let him or something.

It was probably what he was supposed to use as a display...lucky dawg! I have already called around to the stores around me and only one said that they had a few but cant sell them until the 6th. The sales guy told me to order it online and that some folks might get them early...the 4th.

Find a commission based salesperson at a po-dunk ATT store that doesn't really pay attention to the ATT corporate materials.

What town in Atlanta? I will cancel my pre-order and drive over there imminently lol.
Although they probably wouldn't sell it to me since I'm buying for full retail and they probably wouldn't really make any money off me that way.

lucky bastard lol jk

i was using the stock browser on my GNex but have since started to love Chrome Beta. it's awesome and what i'll use from now on.
thanks for the first impressions!

Upon further inspection and comparing my One X with my Captivate, I believe that I do have one of the screens that has the yellow tint to it. Google maps looks fine when viewed on it's own, but when you hold it side by side with another phone you can tell that the colors are a little off. They are nice and bright, but just not the same hue as my captivate. Pulling up the same web pages the difference is pretty clear anywhere there is green or yellow. Blues don't seem to be affected very much if at all.

I could be wrong, but not sure comparing to the Captivate would be the best way to tell if your whites are tinted. Do the whites on the Captivate's Amoled screen have a blue tint? Been a while since I had one, but I recently had purchased a Note (returned and waiting for the One X) and the whites had a very noticeable blue tint to them.

My Captivate always ran cool, so it had a blueish tint to it.
You can always do the screen test app and see just how white your whites are, or if they're yellow.

Which screen test app?
How would I know how white the whites are? Is there some standard to compare it to?

No problems on mine, all my colors looked true testing with screen test app.

So I called into about a million AT&T stores to see whether any of them had the HOX in stock, and I was able to get one employee to reveal that they did! The problem now though is that he's not willing at all to sell it to me...
Is anybody here an ex-AT&T employee or knows the ins and outs of the company policies and would be able to help me procure my HOX early?

Well since someone posted on Engadget with picture to verify that they were sold the One X early I doubt you will find anyone willing to sell you it early. Best bet is to pre-order and it will come May 4. AT&T can't be happy about it.

Can you pull the notification bar down from the lockscreen like in stock ICS?

Mytouch4G screen color washed out and too bright.

Does anybody else notice that the screen colors on the MT4G are a little too high, its like the colors are too bright. I know that I can turn the brightness down, but right now I just have it set to automatic and I like that and I don't want to have to change that.
Does anyone know how to change the contrast on the MT4G? I just want to saturate the colors a little more. Anyone?

You can't do this on any android phone, rooted or not. Could you take a picture or maybe tell tmobile your problem, it might be an actual lcd problem.
Yeah I thought that I was the only one. Especially on this site when you view it from your mobile browser, the brown XDA heading is too bright and faded
I noticed it when I got my wife a MT4g. On her phone the colors are slightly more saturated and the blacks are slightly darker also. It is kinda bothering me now.

My wife is experienceing this as well. She went to look for the night time bedside clock app and found when the app turned the brightness down to 6 the entire screen went black, but at a brightness level of 7 the screen was dim, but still brighter than I would expect.
She commented on her Vibrant when the brightness was turned down it would go all the way down and have a black background, not a washed out dim gray background.
Hopefully there will be a fix coming.
I posted elsewhere that the screen, while obviously not as good as the Vibrant's, seemed to be just as good as that of the Nexus, Incredible, Eris, etc.
Well, I stand corrected. After reading your post, I downloaded 'Night Watch', and compared the look to that of my wife's Nexus. The Nexus does indeed appear to have a black background at 39% brightness, with vibrant green (color I chose) numbers. The MT4G appears more grey-ish, with less vibrant green numbers. Even when I reduced the brightness by another 5%, the MT4G was still grey-ish.
Now, I'm not sure if this is the screen hardware itself, or something in the contrast settings of the phone. It did bum me out a little, as I've been a pretty staunch supporter of this phone since I got it.
The dilemma is,
Do I decide to go back to a Vibrant for a nicer screen, but much fewer options? (not much chance of that)
Look to find another Nexus; and tak ea step back in terms of processor speed, ram, features, et.c (with the exception of the color trackball, which Nexus lords over ever other phone)
Wait until something better comes out; as there are no other android phones comparable to this one in terms of features, available by T-mo right now? (Wait? Really? Arggh!)
All in all, I'm very happy with this device. And maybe I'm just knee-jerking. But, in truth, it does bother me somewhat. Thoughts?

I know exactly what you mean, the blacks look grey and the reds look pink.
I think there is something wrong with the contrast balance in the software somehow, because it does seem like a nice screen, but those are just my thoughts.
I sincerely hope that this is the case. If so, perhaps some tweaking can be done in the settings, mch like, but nothng at all like, the registry settings change in WinMo phone, wherein the colors/contrast could be adjusted by assigning different numbers.
I realize that there is a huge difference between android and WinMo registry tweaks. But it's hard to believe they would simply included an inferior screen to go along with so many other hardware improvements.
its not an amoled display guys, it's never going to be completely black or have as high a contrast ratio as the nexus or vibrant.
Yeah, I know what kind of screen it is, and I know how others look in comparison, my point is though, my Mytouch3G had better colors. It just seems like something could be done via software.

It has only been out a couple of weeks, I would give it some time and everyone complain a little to T-Mobile and hopefully they can add it to a future OTA update.
I only had the MT4G for a night before returning it for a replacement (which is still in the mail), but I agree: The screen looked very washed out. It was so bad that I am now considering keeping my Vibrant.
I am not asking for SuperAMOLED-like quality, but something average would be nice... not low quality crap.
I'm starting to think there's production issues. The very first 2 units I saw had the washed out look. I saw one today that seemed fine. I went thru the menus and changed the backgrounds. Everything seemed much better on this one.
I wish I could compare them side by side, but these were in 2 different stores.
Thoughts?

I had been weary about the screen ever since I got mine last Wednesday. From reading reviews talking about how great the screen looked, and then mine was kinda... blah. First words in my mind when I turned it on was how washed out some of the colors looked.
I took mine back to T-Mobile tonight and swapped it out for a new and I have to say that there's a huge difference. Some of the colors are still a little off, but it looks like it's the app's icon and not the screen itself. Compare the newest YouTube app's red to the TasKiller's red, for instance.
Now to wait on the OTA so I can re-root this thing and clean it off.
I wish I had something to compare mine to. I went to the store, thinking I would compare mine to one of theirs. But it was a bust; as the screen looked exactly the same. So either mine is as good as the replacement you got, but just pales in comparison to the Nexus. Or it's washed out, the one in the store is washed out, and I'm still at square one. Unfortunately, there's no way for me to tell.
I took my MT4G back after running the Asphalt demo next to an Epic and Droid X. The colors were totally faded out and missing details seen on the other devices. The Epic is over-saturated and the X seems to split the difference, not to mention the size is awesome.
Hmm...
Well, being with T-mo, neither of those other two is an option for me. But, I'm thinking about it, and I'm starting to think our phones only seem to pale in comparison.
What I mean is, side by side, yes, they seem to be less-than-stellar. But when used on their own, they seem to be pretty alright... though obviously not as good as what our minds recall the others being.
If you look at a 60hz 1080p tv side by side with a 120hz edge-lit LED tv, yes, the original would look tame. But that's not to say that it doesn't look great on it's own.

Reddish brown tint?

Just got the nexus s and put it on the lowest setting of brightness. What I noticed first was the pulldown bar was brownish red. Is this just a feature of the s.amoled screen or is mine different?
Anyone have this?

On lowest screen brightness, the pulldown shade is just a more muted shade of the two greys that it is on brighter settings on my phone.

Does it look normal at middle and highest brightnesses? Should be shades of grey on a stock unmodded phone.
If you go to this link on the web browser in the phone, does the colors match what they look like on your computer? http://www.pptfaq.com/webcal.gif
There's definitely something not normal; not a hint of red or maroon on mine.
You've rebooted, right? Hate to suggest it, but a factory reset might clear any software caused issue before we have to say it's faulty hardware.
the shades of grey between 249 and 251 are reddish/maroon and further down the spectrum, its the same.
could it be a hardware issue? thinking of just going back to BB..

Yeah, it doesn't sound right to me, without actually seeing the phone.
You're going to have to try two things, the order of which is just a matter of which is more convenient to do:
1) Look at someone else's phone and see if it looks the same. If there's a Best Buy nearby go in and ask to see the demo phone turned on and look at the same screens. If the other phone you look at is the same, maybe it's just your perception, it they're different, then you know for sure you have a problem.
2) Do a factory reset just to make sure there's not a software glitch. After the reset, don't add any new apps or play with any settings until you've checked the colors to see if they're the same or have gone back to the normal greys. If same, bad hardware in my opinion, if back to normal, obviously a software glitch.
The reason I say the order you try either of those above is just personal convenience opinion is that if you're going to exchange the phone, you're going to want to factory reset (and wipe the sd card!!!) before handing the phone back to Best Buy, so if resetting up the phone isn't that big a deal to you, doing it first to troubleshoot might save you a trip to Best Buy. Reset is easy enough, though, to do right in store if you opt for the store visit first.
Let us know what you find out either way.
Will do. Thanks a lot!

I have the exact same problem. This has happened to me three times, with three different Nexus S. I've seen a non-defective Nexus S working before, so I knew they were defective. Check YouTube reviews in HD and you will see the difference.
I had to drive 200 miles each time, just to swap this phone. During my third (and last visit) I was harassed by a Best Buy Mobile employee, who implied I was lying. He didn't want to swap it for me. It was an unbelievable situation.
He took my cellphone and ID inside and brought it back 15 minutes later saying he compared to another one, and the "defect" was in my settings. I told him it wasn't (I tried everything before driving there), and showed him the brownish/reddish tint. He told me (very impolitely) that unless I could show him the defect, he wouldn't swap it. I told him I would be pleased to, if he brought another Nexus S so I could show him the difference. He declined to do so.
(Please bear in mind that in every single return I've made, I kept the phone in intact conditions. I didn't remove ANY STICKERS. There were no marks -not even finger prints - on it. Everything was wrapped up.)
Still, he swapped my phone, saying "this is your last time, you made me lose more money than the very few dollars I would've made with you".
I was threatened, he wrote "No more returns" in my receipt, and said I would be black listed so there would be no chance of me ever swapping this phone again.
Not surprisingly, the "new phone" has the same problem.
It just amazes me how little costumer service skills was shown. I drove 200 miles. Twice (one of the times I was able to go back to the store before driving back home). I had to leave my job earlier. I need my cellphone for work. Instead of receiving apologies for this very unfortunate problem, I was humiliated in front of the entire store.
I can't exchange it now, am "black listed" and with a defective Nexus S. I will try to contact Samsung as they might be a bit more approachable than Best Buy.
I would have went straight for the store manager if an employee treated me like that. If that didn't do it a call to their corporate HQ would have done wonders. That behaviour is 100% wrong.

He told me he was the "Store Manager". When I inquired whether he was the General Manager for the store, he told me Best Buy Mobile is a separate company. I read a bit on it, and apparently this is not entirely true.
I will try to contact corporate HQ. I'm unsure what are the odds of being heard by Best Buy, though.
Thanks for the tip.

Most likely it isn't the screen protector;
Mine has the same reddish brown tint even in different brightness settings. It just becomes less noticeable, but it's there, and it's different than what a regular Nexus S looks like.
I have this problem on my Nexus too, gawd this pisses me off. I just returned a MT4G because the screen sucked. I have a VIbrant as well and the screen on the Vibrant is a million times better. Good thing I still have exchange time and the 10 dollar a month insurance.
Is this something worth bringing back to bestbuy? Like is it a defect or just a consequence of the technology?

Well I took it in, I compared it against my Vibrant for them. Then we checked it against the demo model, which they said came from another batch. Both of them had the issues, I went ahead and took a different Nexus back and it still has the issue. So I don't know maybe this is just a Nexus S thing that nobody else notices unless they came from a Galaxy S.
To me it takes away from the samoled look, it looks like every other phones screen now. I can't change it though so whatever...

please please help me, Please!!!

I am now on Nexus #4, serious issues with first 3. So #4 looks totally different. The colors are washed out and the UI seems weird. Such as when hitting the bottom of s scrollable screen, the yellow highlights aren't smooth but sorta jagged at the top. The icons at the top of the display (wifi icon, 4g icon, etc) are green. I'm almost positive the first 3 had white highlight not green. The stock nexus wallpaper also seems a bit weird up in yhr right corner. I'm running 2.3.4 but I'm almost certain so were the others since they were all purchased with s week. Please leave me some feedback guys, I'm begging ya. I can't see myself walking into the store to exchangeyet again. Oh and the keyboard is now two tones of grey which again I never noticed on the first 3. The actual letter keys are lighter grey than the function keys.

Well Which carrier? start there...did you root it..have u added a rom??
ALSO my NEXUS HAS GIVEN ME SERIOUS PROBLEMS.. WHICH makes my phone not functional. my problem is that the DATA connectivity has lost completely can brows or any simple thing that requires data.. tried numerous things, such as updating my profile which Fails, PRL, which fails, Every ## method i can think of. I also tried going back to stock VIA ADB... still no data, its as if i had a bad activation...AND SPRINT TECH are totally of no use..they cant even realize that the # methods are different..I am wondering if i need to enter anything in the settings??searched and searched google and i just think that the support on the device is so poor that google almost fails to recognize the problems in actual writing...Now im stuck wondering if i should go back to my EVO again!!!
I'm on sprint too and also wondering if I want me evo back. I do like the phone though and pure Google is awesome. I'm nit one of those people who just looks to break balls and get return after return simply because I'm able to. I've also had to purchase a new $30 zagg with each exchange so I'm out an additional $120. I can't imagine walking back into the store for my 5th nexus. They also said after 3 there not allowed to do exchanges for the same device, its time to get into a new one. I have read all the issues that the last couple of updates has brought to the color profile of the Nexus but I'm pretty sure the others were all on the same software. Can anyone confirm when 2.3.4 rolled out ota?

If you've read the forums you'll know this is a divisive point: some think the over-saturated purple-heavy colour space used prior to 2.3 is better looking, and some think that the correct colour space is, of course, correct. You make your own mind up. Read the other threads on the topic.
OK so after a bit more time with the phone here's what I'm finding.
I can't remember what software version the first batch of nexus units had but this one is running 2.3.4. I've read that one if the updates has totally screwed up the colors on the Nexus S but this seems to have been one of the updates the TMO version got, I think the ns4g shipped with 2.3.4. Still need someone to confirm this because if my first 3 were running earlier software then its possible that's why this one looks very different. It doesn't seem to be s faulty display because its really only the UI that's affected. Photos sbd such do not look washed out. When outside the deep dark blacks and vibrant colors come back, head indoors and the washed out display is very noticeable. Could this be an issue with the auto brightness?? I could really use some help here guys, especially if someone knows for sure if yhr Sprint version has been updated to 2.3.4 or if it shipped with 2.3.5. Thanks
Most of your questions are found by Googling or searching in the forums, but ill tell you what I know.
The green means that you are synced. White means that you are connected to internet but you're not synced ie you get no Google services. Gtalk, email, etc etc. You want it to be green.
As mentioned above, the washed out colors are from 2.3.3 and on. I think they changed the colors a little bit in 2.3.4 but they will still look "washed out" to someone who came straight off 2.3.2 and before.
Also, the washed out was not tmo specific. It was changed in the 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 OS which means that anyone with those versions will see this. Nexus s is a pure Google phone so the updates are all the same, not network specific.
If being in the sun makes the screen brighter or changes how your screen looks, then yes, that is the auto brightness trying to save you battery life. It does the same to me too. It's annoying I know because sometimes on cloudy days it doesn't brighten all the way but I still can't see the screen as clearly. You can change the brightness of the screen though.
Hope this helps.

I've also had to purchase a new $30 zagg with each exchange so I'm out an additional $120.

Zaggs have a lifetime warranty and even if you have to return your phone, take the Zagg off first and then go to Zagg.com and go to support and get a replacement. They will charge you shipping($3 I think) and as long as you send the old one back in within 60 days you will incur no more charges. Returning your phone is one of the options covered under their lifetime warranty.

T-Mobile HTC One S color?

Anyone know why T Mobile is only launching with the "gradient blue" version and not the micro arc oxidized version that is available internationally?
I have fallen to like the gray version a lot more so I will be getting that but I once was set 100% on getting the red/black one. I'm sure someone people will be disappointed that the red/black version won't be on T Mobile.
*T Mobile at MWC Feb 2012 announced a gray version only, so MAO failure is not the reason for only one color.
Anyone here have the gray version? Thoughts on it? Is it aesthetically pleasing? How does it feel in the hand or outside in the sun? I want to hear some opinions on it before I get it next week.
Hey, I got the grey a few days ago and I absolutely love it; the colours are great, especially the blue accent around the camera and the beatsaudio logo.
Also, no scratches on it =)
The looks is nice for both of phones, but Both of them have one downside... Black have chipping problem, while Gray is slippery
I was at a local T-Mobile store today looking at the dummy unit and the guy told me that they will be getting the black version in the beginning of June. He even checked with his boss when I asked him more about it. I have no idea if its true but they seemed pretty confident. I'm not sure if I want to wait though...

Interesting news...Good for the people who want black.
For myself I am getting gray. I can't go another month waiting for the One S when the Gradient Blue color is already flashy by it self. It would be a nice change having a gray based color phone for once. I have watched literally dozens of videos on Youtube regarding the One S, Form factor is nice, Sense 4 is spectacular, I'm practically obsessed with the phone. Waiting an additional month would be like consuming chilli peppers in the desert, I won't be able to handle it. That being said even if both colors were to be released I would choose gray now.

I personally like the black version, I think it looks a lot nicer but I'm concerned about the chipping. I hope that the version that comes to T-Mobile doesn't have this problem.
Having said that, I'm not sure if I want to wait... Playing with the dummy unit makes me want the phone even more. I will probably just get the phone but time will tell.

Should I switch to the Galaxy S3 from the Galaxy Nexus? UPDATE: VICTORY!!! BOOYA!

I have been having issues with replacement Galaxy Nexus' having incorrect color calibration and I kept complaining to Verizon.
They offered to send me a different device, and considering the Galaxy S3 has better hardware, I was thinking of taking them up on the offer.
The only thing Im really holding out on before I make my final decision is for the dev community to get the bootloader unlocked.
So do you guys think I should stick with my Nexus or have Verizon send me a Galaxy s3?
UPDATE: After talking to multiple customer service reps, they told me the only thing that they could do for me was update me to the DROID RAZR...I told them that that is not a "comparable device" and all of the multiple service reps still wouldnt budge. They even went as far as to tell me that their system WILL NOT allow them to upgrade me to the Galaxy S3. Anyway, so I was fed up with the customer service B.S. and so I emailed their executive office. After about two days, I received an email from them asking for the account info and some contact info. They told me that under normal circumstances they wouldnt do this, but she told me the issue I was complaining about with my Galaxy Nexus was a know issue, but at the moment, they dont have a fix for it. She also told me that the customer service people were lying. That the system will let them do it, but it is just a little more difficult. The only thing that I am kind of knit picky about is that theyre sending me the blue one, because they dont have any white ones left, but its whatevs...at least I am getting a free phone and I won.

Even with the locked bootloader the s3 is still pretty amazing. It seems like everyday someone in the community is making something for this phone to make that much better. Ive never owned a nexus so i cant compare but im sure u would love this phone.
I upgraded from the GNex. You won't go wrong here. First, the TW interface is really nice in my opinion. The battery is insanely great and there was no custom kernel on the GNex that gave me even remotely the battery life I get now. The camera on this phone is amazing. It has a bigger display. Better processor. I say go for it you will not be disappointed.

Thats a very good question. In my household we have both the S3 and the Nexus...and I cant say which one is better. I personally have the S3 and love it, even with the locked bootloader theres still soo much you can do. The Nexus is a fantastic phone on its own, but if you have the nexus and crave the development...then stay with it. Or find someone with a S3 and switch phones for couple days
The final decision is yours, but:
While the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone, I feel if you have the opportunity, you should get the Galaxy S3. While the locked bootloader isn't it's greatest feature, it's roaring development is. There are devs out there working extremely hard to unlock the bootloader on this device. And even though the bootloader is locked, the XDA community has managed to flash custom roms/kernels onto the device using the awesome development of Kexec.
And even without root or any modification to it's firmware, Samsung's TouchWiz interface isn't too bad and it doesn't affect the phone's performance much either, because the phone itself is quite powerful.
However, if you want a phone that was made for development, then the Galaxy Nexus may be best for you.
So my next question is ...if I got it...Pebble Blue? or Marble White?

We have both colours here, with a white Amzer Shellster case+holster for the white, a black set for the blue.
The white has more of a uniform, understated, contemporary aesthetic in any lighting, and almost feels iPodish in terms of first impression, but is far more approachable. That is, I feel current iPods are not only chunky (which is OK), but their thick metal band around the sides and boring uniformity make them look like pieces of industrial equipment with a white face tacked on. By contrast, the Galaxy S III in white presents as more of a fully sleek and "professional" device, overall. The white case we use keeps that overall feel relatively intact.
The pebble blue is brushed and offers different chroma depending upon the lighting and angle, so there's more interest in its somewhat variable presentation. You can't always pin down how it looks during daily use because it doesn't seem to uniformly reflect ambient light sources from the combination of its brushed colouring and rounded surfaces, which is kind of neat to me. There is a possible purplish hue that can come off the surrounding metal-looking edge and Home button at times, which I see as a positive: it adds to that meandering notion of its colour values and personality. Generally a darker phone, sometimes comes across as medium/medium-light in tint and even tone if light is hitting it squarely (and, depending on the type of light source).
My highly subjective impressions, at least. I can offer pics, if interested.

No need to attach pics, thankyou for the detailed analysis...I went and checked it out the the VZW store and I think if I switch to it Im getting marble white.
I still havent called Verizon about getting the S3...but now that the bootloader is unlocked I am going to...the only thing I am afraid of though is that they are going to tell me I can't get the S3 because it is more expensive than the nexus... I know I can fight the fact the specs on the RAZR are inferior to the Nexus, but how do I fight the specs on the Reazound if they try to offer that to me?

I'm not sure they'll make that switch for you from a nexus to a s3

If you want to fight the specs on the Rezound, say the screen on the Rezound is "remarkably" smaller than that of your Galaxy Nexus. I put "remarkably" in quotes because you can stress that word when explaining the differences, even though the Gnex has only a .35inch gain on screensize compared to the Rezound. Screen size does play a factor when some people buy a phone, you could use that to your advantage.
I came from gnex an don't regret it one bit. I was hesitant because I flashed roms for the nexus all the time looking for speed and battery life. Guess what, this phone has that stock! I love it. Rooting an customs roms are just a nice bonus.
