Weird HD7 Problem - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently change wireless carriers here in Australia from Optus to TPG which in fact share the exact same network. Optus renting out bandwidth to TPG. A few days into changing over i noticed that i was intermittently able to message my girlfriend and only my girlfriend.
When i was unable to message i would get the upside down smile face and the try again message in the messaging hub even when she was standing right next to me with her phone. I then would test it messaging my dad on the same network and my mum on a different network and it worked perfectly both ways. I have noticed that if i get her to message me sometimes it allows me to message her again successfully.
So last night i got fed up, delete her contact from window live re added it then did a hardware restart. When the restart i could not get my Data connection to work at all and I noticed this first of when originally logging into windows live. I then notice in the Market place I was missing HTC apps, and Music, I did another hard reset and Music Shows up but when I clicked on it then I clicked the link to get unlimited music which logs into my Zune account, the music button disappeared from the market place again and still not HTC apps.
I did another hard reset and then i got only had Apps and Games option in market place, no music or HTC apps. I turned my phone on and off and then i got this. http://i43.tinypic.com/1op1l1.jpg
To get rid of it i had to pull the battery but it worked fine after, i then did a soft reset and got HTC, MUSIC back in the market place but i was unable to download the connection manger as i got an error. I wake up this morning and my data connection is working so its possible the network is down or my phone is honestly a broken. Any help would be great.

i think the sms problem is your carrier problem, and, the red-green-blue screen is the spl mode, a place where you can flash your phone (not anymore for bootloader 5.x, you need a goldcard to do that). you'd better goto htc service center to not to risk your device.

I'm in a similar situation. Using a tmous hd7 on simple mobile. When I first start my phone fresh, data doesn't work so I skip live sign-in. Then I go all the way to the main screen then connect to my WiFi network. After that sign into your live acount. Wait a minute or two for HTC apps to show in marketplace. Next download and install HTC connection setup. After install open app and at the bottom tap the "..." and tap manual select. Wait a few seconds and select your carrier from the list.
Works fine for me everytime. Sometime HTC apps don't show right up in marketplace after I sign into my live account bit it will.

[Q] HTC Dash Missing Programs/Icons

Hello, everyone,
I hope this is the right forum, but please feel free to move it to the correct one.
My wife's HTC Dash (on a Rogers plan) began acting strangely yesterday. She said she was in the middle of texting when the Comm manager screen came up. When she finished her text, the shortcuts along the top of the screen were all missing, and when she tries to use them, it says something to the effect of "Error opening the shortcut of locating the target filename." I can't say exactly how this happened, since I was not with her at the time.
She can still send and receive text messages by highlighting the "Text Messages" section of the homescreen, and she can still access her contacts for calls and texts. The calendar can still be accessed through clicking on appointments in the home screen, but not through the shortcuts. Also, where the Comm Manager usually is on the home screen, it is now blank, but I can click on it and access the Comm Manager screen.
When I open the Start Menu, the only icon that remains is the T-Mobile "Set up Email" option. I can also not sync the phone to the netbook it's set up on. When I plug the phone in, it is recognized by the computer but in Mobile Device Centre program, it imply says "Error."
UPDATE:
I can plug the phone into the computer and it will be recognized. I can also use file explorer to see the files in the phone. Also, the phone will not let me change ring modes (Normal/Meeting/Silent/etc)
Has anyone had this issue before, and would a factory reset correct the issue? I told my wife it's likely she will lose her contacts, but she's not too concerned about it, since she can get those back easily enough. She just wants the full functionality back. She does not use the phone for email, so I can't speak to that.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this. I hope someone can help us!
Thanks
I'm sorry, but i can't help you with your problem, but you don't have to loose the contacts etc from the device as you are able to connect to a pc.
Find a program called 'jeyo mobile compagnion' you can download a demo from the official website, and you can make a back up of contacts, sms and call histtory
btw, afaik you probably have to make a hard reset (factory reset).
good luck!

[Q] "Attention Required. Press Here" during updating Apps from Marketplace

Dear All,
I am having a prob for the past week or so. This happened after the marketplace in my phone was updated (my marketplace search bar shows Applications and Games Search now. The music search is gone.).
The problem is that whenever any of my apps have an update, I click on Update All and then instead of downloading the new updates, all the Apps show "Attention required. Press Here".
1. I pressed and retried. Didn't work.
2. I long pressed and retried, that didn't work either.
3. I long pressed and deleted the update, and tried updating again and that didn't help.
4. Restarting phone was of no use either.
Can anyone please help me with this? The only way I update now is delete the app altogether and re download the app. This is quite annoying as I lose the settings on some apps and have to enter them again.
I am using a T-Mobile UK unlocked Samsung Omnia 7 with the NoDo update.
Thanks!
Read this thread.

And for future reference and search:
Why do I get an "Attention required. Tap here." message when I try to download an app or game?
Your phone might have temporarily lost its Internet connection, or you might be trying to download an app that's too big to download over your phone's cellular data connection. If you're trying to download an app larger than 20 megabytes, you'll need to connect to a Wi-Fi network, or connect the phone to your PC and use the Zune software.
Cheers. I did search before a few times and did not find what I was looking for. Thats why I posted here to hopefully find some answers. Thanks again.

I have read all that before plenty of times and none of the solutions have worked for me. It doesnt work over wifi and the apps I download are all less than 1mb. Moreover, I know that anything greater than 20mb required me to download through Zune connection. My phone software is also up to date.
So back to square 1 for me.....
just wait.. it is a temprary problem..
Ok. Will wait for a fix....

Where it says "Pending" did you try holding your finger there and hit retry? (After you established a wifi connection)
It won't auto download it till you do.
No I haven't. But will definitely give that a try next time.

I am actually having the same issues sometimes in UK Marketplace. However, after a while, they "mysteriously" go away and I can download.
Which makes me think it's either a temporary issue on the server or something like that.
In other cases, it worked when I switched 3G off, but I think that's more of a network provider problem.
Know what im talking about
Hi Guys,
ive had this issue when NoDo first came out, i updated to NoDo with the ROMS on here and was still receiving same message for any application i was reqesting from Marketplace, i rolled back from NoDo and my markeplace worked again. so i tried few things different by installing different roms and updating and so on, and still got the same issue when the final update was NoDo.
one thing i did notice was that my app would install over 3G but not over wifi which was the strange part, and 3G is extremely expensive when you downloading games and large apps so that definitly was not an option for me.
i am still using the latest release just before NoDo, because of this issue and i hope some smarty can figure it out or Microsoft release a fix for this soon.
ive scavaged the internet and found zip info that helps ! others tried methods that worked for them but none work for me.
btw i have HTC Mozart and in South Africa

[Q] A few question about WP7

Hello
I just got my Lumia 900, I use Windows Mobile for years, I feel a bit uncomfortable on WP7, I have a few questions:
1. How to sign out Windows Live? I don't want to sign in all the time, it waste data and battery. I know I can just turn off data, but sometimes I want to leave data on for other program.
2. How to know the phone is using data? On WM you see small 3G appears with signal bar, on Android you see 3G appears with up/down arrow. On WP7, I did not see any changes on upper indication area when I am using data.
3. How to lock the orientation of phone dialer? When I hang up the phone, the phone tilt a little bit and cause the dialer window rotates; so, can I lock it?
I wish someone could give answers. Thanks!
Edit1:
Q1 is answerd
Q2: I observed the phone behaviour. It shows 4G when I turn on the data, and sometimes it shows LTE. I assume when it shows LTE, it is using data. Maybe I am wrong.
Q3: Orientation Lock can only be installed for unlocked Lumia 900. so it seems mission impossible by now.
Some new questions:
Q4: Multi tasking: When I download some big files from internet, while I am waiting, I start to open another app. It seems the download is paused. This is very annoying. I cannot wait for hours to use the phone until the download completes
Q5: How to exit IE quickly? If I browsed 50 pages, looks like I have to press "BACK" for 50 times to exit IE......
Q6: Real time battery percent indication on live tiles? Tried to search the market but no success.
Q7: Can the upper status bar(Battery status/signal bar, etc.) fix on the screen?
Q8: How to set IE home page??
You can sign out of Messenger by opening the Messaging hub, selecting Status (from the AppBar at the bottom), and choosing Sign Out. You can turn off syncing of your Windows Live email by opening the settings for the email account and disabling the automatic sync, which will cause the phone to not use any data or battery life for that purpose. I'm not sure what other aspects of Windows Live you want to sign out of, but considering that things like your Marketplace purchases (including apps, even free ones) are tied to your Xbox Live account, which is in turn tied to your Windows Live account, you'd lose a lot of functionality if you actually signed out.
There's no official way to tell when the phone uses data. Short of temporarily disabling cellular data (to guarantee that the phone is *not* doing so), you could try enabling Airplane Mode, which turns off pretty much all background data usage but permits apps and user-initiated actions (web browsing, app purchase, etc.) to use data.
There's a homebrew app called Orientation Lock that sort-of handles the third question (it just turns off the accelerometer entirely until you choose to turn it on again). I don't believe it was ever accepted to the Marketplace though, so you need a developer-unlock for your phone.

Thanks. One more question: On WM, if I connect the phone to the PC, my phone can get internet connection through PC by ActiveSync. It is very convenience, I don't have to turn on data/WIFI. Can we do on WP7? I tried but it won't work.
Connect your phone to your PC and start Zune music player. The phone should get internet connectivity, once Zune recognises your phone.
You need to reconnect 3-4 times it if it fails. It's annoying but it's working.
good!. Thanks, it works.

Help? Particular website access issues from android phone

Hopefully I'm posting this in an ok section. I'm not sure what the issue is, and I'm trying to figure out if this is a software, hardware, provider, or website issue. I am beginning to suspect a software issue though.
I have a stock HTC M8, and as of about 2 weeks ago, I'm having issues logging in to one particular website: http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/ , but ONLY when connected through my wireless provider. The main page loads just fine, but as soon as I hit the sign in button to try to get to the signin page, it hangs for a while, then I get the message "internal error - server connection terminated" .
Here's the thing though: If I try to sign in to the page while connected to a Wifi network, it works just fine, and will continue to work properly even if I turn wifi off, until such time as the page automatically ends my session and I have to log in again. It's just that initial log in that won't work if connected to a wireless network. Also, I can't log out either unless on a wifi connection.
Here's what I tried already:
- Tried to log in using my wife's S4 (also stock rom). No good.
- Tried Chrome and Firefox browsers. Same problem.
- Contacted the website support. They say my wireless connection is too slow. Speedtest says 80Mbps down, 30Mbps up, 31ms ping. Ummm... I'm going to say this isn't the issue.
- Contacted my wireless provider (Telus). They say they haven't made any changes the last couple of weeks.
The only changes I've made recently is that I updated Android System Webview. I can't even get a handle on what the heck this app is for (Typical review: "It changed my life! My acne disappeared, and I won the lottery!")
Any ideas? I'm at a loss here....
In chrome you should check on the requeat desktop page and give it a try

Sadly, I've tried that as well. No go on any browser.
That's why I figured maybe it was something HTC screwed up with a recent update.
Can you access that login with any other method on your htc
Nope. WiFi only. Every other attempt to reach the login page fails. Browser doesn't matter, desktop view is no good, manual or auto login is also useless.
It simply won't load the login page.
I noticed on my desktop that it goes from whatever page you click the login button from, to a log in page, and then back to your original page once you enter your information. It's that transition to and from that login page that seems to be where the issue lies.
I must be in the website you do not need to worry as your droid is safe
Sorry, but you lost me there...
It could be thatbi lost but i dont know coz at somd times i have same problem anf it goea away by itself so i think its a site problem
I thought that originally as well, but they claim they haven't changed anything and blame my ISP, my ISP claims they haven't changed anything and blames the site...
This is why I'm wondering if it maybe has something to do with android web view or the native browser interfering with the whole system since it started about the same time as I downloaded the updates.
You wouldn't by chance know where I could find an apk for the HTC browser 2 versions ago would you? That way I could remove all updates then install that and at least verify or eliminate a possible cause.
Yes i can tell you where is the befault internet brousef app present on your device.
Download ans install es file manager.
Open it. At the top you will see sd card tap that. A mwnu will open. In that menu the first option is / device select that.
In that search for system folder. Inside that you will find many folders but inside folder app and priv_app there are syatem apk
Your brouser app will be inaide one of them.

Ghost in the Machine

Hi guys!
Tried the search but came up with nothing so here goes...
I must admit I'm not very tech savvy but I can follow instructions no worries
I joined mainly because my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (un-rooted) started to behave very strangely early this year.
(and I want to trick it up after warranty expires in August ?)
Short story is that my Samsung account got hacked (or it at least seems like it) and the perp was then able to control my phone remotely. It was incredible watching my phone do as it pleased and all I could do was sit back and watch. Funny thing is that I've never actually toggled the RC switch (find my phone)...
My local carrier (Telstra Bigpond - Australia) account as well as my Google account got taken over shortly after. This would have given whoever it was access to my 3 cloud accounts which add you can appreciate would contain some sensitive material.
Whoever is responsible could well be a member on here so "Hi, there!! "
I pulled my sim and sd card and switched the phone off so I could decide what to do next.
I got a password manager app, changed all passwords (lucky my partner had a spare iPhone 5S sitting around up I could get online) and factory reset the phone.
All seemed to be going well until a few days ago...
I got "timed out" on my Samsung account (is that even possible?!) and while I was putting the password in (on the Samsung website - silly mistake!) just as I hit next I noticed a few dots in a square pattern that did a spinning type of graphic over the password entry box.
Continuing onto the next screen where the two step verification was, which was to send a text to my phone to receive a code and bang! Before I even received the text a six digit code appears in the fill box on the screen (same spinning dots in a square pattern) right before my eyes and then I receive the text afterwards! The numbers matched!!
I’ve also been asked to enter my Google credentials on more than one occasion lately from being “signed out”...
I don't know what to do!
I've tried all of the popular virus type apps and a few file managers to no avail. More like I've been hacked than a virus?
I've removed apps and shut down almost all of them as well as toggling between mobile data and WiFi and restored the phone twice back to earlier backups from over 6 months ago.
I've only ever downloaded from the Play Store apart from just the once getting your better version of the Play Store XDA (LABS) app.
What might be noteworthy is when I was using Google's help function it said that I had a "modified Android" and to contact manufacturer. I can guarantee the phone has never been cracked open.
I can provide screen shots from DevCheck (FLAR2) but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I also don't have any unknown apps etc...
I really don't know what to do next...
Any advice please??
Sorry about the long post.
All the best,
Crackles
Took phone to Samsung and they wiped the device and installed current (Android Pie 9 w. Feb 01 security update) so was looking forward to having a play with the new os until I went to add my Samsung account details...
Entered the password then the 2-step security kicked in to send a text to my number.
The earlier 4 circling dots dropped the 6 digit code into the fill box before I even received the sms! Device (on it's own jumped straight to the remote control button in the Find my Device security section) then attempted to change the password!
Only thing that prevented that from being carried out was I had biometrics activated and stopped the action using my fingerprint.
Seriously no one has any idea on what to do?!
I also had installed a replacement sim card.
I also can't uninstall updates on certain apps like Google Play Services etc, and some apps either have a dead link (press it and nothing happens) or Play Store can't find the app when I hit the downloaded from Play Store thingy at the bottom of the app description page. Hope that makes sense.
As you said, they wiped the phone, which means they most likely flashed the whole firmware, so there's no way for any malware to remain installed. But for what it's worth, you can try to re-flash the firmware yourself using Oding to make sure the whole flash is clean.
If your phone really was infected with any kind of malware, it must have been a 3-rd party app you have (repeatedly) installed. Some apps like Google Play Services cannot be uninstalled because they are vital for system's (or rather apps installed from Play Store) propper functioning.
Also, even if you had infected your device, it would not be able to take control of your device to the extent you described because of app sandboxing, which cannot be broken unless the app constitutes itself as a system app (because every part of the system has to be cryptographically signed, this would break the boot and brick your device) or the user (you) would have to allow the app the necessary permissions to carry out these tasks.
Hey Kernel thanks for the reply ?
Yes I know what I'm saying sounds crazy and even the missus said I was nuts till I showed her.
I can't screen record any more either...
I'm noticing odd little things like when I pull the notifications screen down for a second or so the NFC, Bluetooth and nearby icons are lit up but then revert back to a if they were off. I've switched all of these items off in the settings so are they being sneaky?
So far nothing really bad has happened apart from not being able to put my credentials into the PayPal app. That's using both Last Pass auto-fill and manually entering the email and password. I've un-installed and re-installed many times and it's the same. I'm not going to add any banking apps just yet.
Facebook also got installed in the background about 4 times within a few minutes. Seemed odd to me. I think I've got a screenshot of that.
Malwarebytes found an issue with I'm guessing a theme I got from the Samsung Galaxy Store so I removed it, chose another and it seems OK.
There's still a few odd things happening like certain settings reverting back to something different from what I'd set.
I'll keep tinkering and post anything that stands out.
Is there an app or something that can check every file on my phone and tell if something isn't quite right?
I don't have a pc at the moment but when I do I'll look into Odin.
Thanks again for taking the time I know I sound like a lunatic and tbh I really wish I was haha!!
Hmm interesting...
When I tried to upload the screenshot it stopped and said "bad request"...

Could all this weird bs be happening if the home WiFi has been hijacked?
Sorry for dumb questions.

Whatsapp does the same thing, autocompletes the code, before de sms is coming. This is not a malware. But, don't use password manager... Those can be hacked.
Really my password manager can be hacked?!
I'm using Last Pass.
So moving on I started to poke around the WiFi router and found the PnP enabled and my device was sharing with another device. I did not authorise this. I've since reset the router, changed the pin and access code, disabled the WPS and also factory reset the device that was "sharing" with mine... The owner of said device no longer lives with me. I'm just glad I confiscated the phone from him before he left.
When I'm researching possibilities of what could be going on with my phone the pages won't load. It's like my searches are being monitored and the data is being stopped. I tested this with my partner's phone (on mobile data) and the exact Web pages loaded right up on her's without a hitch! I tried again on mine and they just stopped. Pages would load straight away on mine if searching for something completely different like rc cars or bmx related content. Stuff to do with my phone just won't work ffs!
Like when I tried my first post on here. It simply would not post it up! I ended up having to copy/paste the draft and emailing it to another account that I made up on the spot on her phone. Hence the two usernames in this thread.
I got the 3C TOOLBOX app and in the app management section, Task Manager under service many of them are "custom entries" and I cannot un-tick, modify or reset back to the original version of any of these apps. Google Play Services was the worst. Pretty much every thing it was capable of doing had a "custom action" and I could not do anything with it.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have a serious invasion of my phone..?
Thinking about smashing this thing to bits and getting an S10+ ??
Also the Bluetooth, NFC & Nearby buttons almost any me of the day/night are on for a split second when I drag the motivation panel down. These are all set to "OFF" in settings...
What
The
F--k?!?!?!
