For all the newbs that want a straight answer on gameloft games for you captivate, here it is.
after searching and searching on here to figure out how to get 3rd party apps (in paticular gameloft games) without root, i figured it out!!
anyways as you know at&t is not supported on gamelofts website, just t mobile verison and sprint. so what do you do.
1. well first get the captivate usb drivers installed on you computer from samsungs website
2.then i guess you have to install microsoft NET.framework4 to computer,
3.then install the sideload wonder machine to computer, (search wonder machine on this forum, they wont let me post link sorry), unzip it
4. now off to gameloft.com, select what ever android game you want, when it asks for carrier (i selected verison) you can probably do any, when it asks for make pick samsung of course and model ( i did vibrant) again i imagine you can pick any, vibrant worked for me. pay the people. they'll send you a sms with link. if your phone is rooted maybe this would work, dunno. anyways forward it to a email address and open it on your computer, click link and SAVE it IN the wonder machine folder (like in the second folder where all the icons are)
5. enable usb debugging on phone in applications- development before youplug in phone to computer
6. plug phone in computer, pull the status bar down on phone click whatever the usb thing says connect or something, then MOUNT the sd
7. open wonder machine folder, open the andriod central swm icon, run of course, choose the file (gameloft or whatever), click ok then the go button, it should take a few seconds and then say success. shut off usb debugging and it should be on your phone and work
im currently playing modern combat sandstorm on my phone now and lovin it, took me forever to figure out how to get it but thanks to this forum and the wonder machine my search is over. now if i can just get better battery life and take off the at&t apps i'll be stoked
hope this helps someone, all the information was from this forum but no one really gave straight clear answers. so now if your new to andriods like me you wont have to dig so much to find this answer. this was really easy to do
Good tip. At least it gives us a way to get them for now. I wonder why AT&T isnt supported though?

Because AT&T is locking down their phones to third party installers.
Does anybody else have a problem with Gangstar where multi touch seems to be locked/broken. This is on an SGS phone btw.
When i select the Captiate as my model, I only get 2 games that show up under "All Ganes." Does this sound correct? <on the gameloft website that is>

The OP said that you can't use AT&T as your provider. Use T-mobile and select the Vibrant as your model and you should get a lot more games.
That's alot of steps. If you don't have side loading enabled already then you should. All you need to do is go under the vibrant games. Buy one. It texts your phone and then you download from the text. Done!

you can always use marketenabler, set it to t-mobile and then purchase to your hearts content
I have all the try before you buy games that they offer for the Vibrant. They run smoothly on the captivate.

DUH!!! I just skipped to step 1, didnt see that part. Thanks.
Ok...so I did this a week or so ago and it worked perfectly, but now I can't get it to work. Once I email the link to myself I get the message, "Sorry, this game is not available for your phone." I put t-mobile as carrier and vibrant for phone...is there something I'm not doing
Are you doing step 4 on your computer.you can't do it on your phone.you have to use wonder machine to get it on to your phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
yes, I'm doing it on my computer
You should just open the link on your computer save it in wonder machine folder and follow the rest of the steps to install

Unless they changed something to were you can't so it anymore I don't know,i haven't done this in a while, plus now I have side loading enabled so this makes or a lot easier.if your rooted enable side loading (get 3rd party apps) by following instructions on the how to wiki, then when you get the sms with link you can open it right from your phone

I believe Gameloft made it that the games need to be downloaded via a phone browser, it looks like it checks to see what device you're downloading from and if you use a computer to grab the link, it denies you with an 'Unknown' device.
I am having the same experience. You can no longer tell it that you have a Vibrant and download the games to your computer or the Captivate. Now we need a way to have the browser tell the server that we have Vibrants...anyone know how to do that???
On a side note, can someone post the apk of all the trials??? That shouldn't be against any rules or laws since they are free to begin with.
Also, if you purchase the games, will it then allow you to download them to your computer? If the trials are as good as they seem, I'll definitely be purchasing some of them!
Got it
Just changing your user agent string seems to work. I installed the "user agent switcher" add-in for Firefox, then created a new user agent using a string copied from the i9000's entry in deviceatlas.com. I used the one for Android 2.1, en-us:
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; GT-I9000 Build/ECLAIR) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
Then you can just download the APK to your computer and sideload it via your preferred method whether that's ADB, wonder machine, copy to sideload-enabled phone, whatever.
Is there a work-around if regular SMS doesn't work on your phone? I use Google Voice for SMS but Gameloft won't send the link to a GV number.

Does anyone know any free sync tool for Android Phone?
Being a new user of Android phone, I have quickly browse through this site and find most discussions are about outlook sync, application backup or using iTunes for Android phone. Yet probably we can share information about the free sync tools that we can find on market, in one thread.
So far I have a HTC phone so the software comes with the phone is HTC Sync.
However it does not support playlist like the iTunes does. And also many features it doesn't seem to work up to my expectation.
I find another free software called Android Manager. However it only supports WiFi connection with PC. Well, no problem for me.
It supports synchronize my outlook contacts/calendar with my phone. But it doesn't support task/email sync. I am OK with it. I buy the phone not for my job but for personal entertainment.
The software did manage to edit/manage/backup my photo/video and most important of all playlist. Application installation, management and backup are also easy to do! I find it much easier to get started then the HTC sync as the interface is a bit like iTunes concept. Agreethat my previous phone iPhone 3G provides good user experience and its sync software iTunes is great! But my user experience with current Android phone is also wonderful! All I hope is to find a good PC tool and so far Android Manager is OK!
If anyone can share experiences about other PC sync tool which provide multi features like the original software, that will be really great!
an excellent app! it works pretty terrific in my G1. but the only bad thing is that it only supports wifi...as a free app, i still give it pretty nice credit tho...
HTC Sync don't support old Android phones in any way.
Juts like my HTC Dream.
I also don't think HTC will update the support for these old phones.
So I am using Android Manager WiFi as well.
I have WiFi AP at home and office,so that the wireless connection is quite convenient for me to sync my phone.
I like to use Wireless sync.
I even don't need to install the USB driver onto my PC to have a USB link.
Hello, I am a fairly new g-tablet user. I received one for Christmas and updated it on Dec 25th. I am still experiencing some issues such as if the battery dies then the date/time resets to Dec 2008. I mainly use it for e-reading using the Amazon Kindle app. But would very much like to use for more than that since that would make it a very expensive e-reader!
I came across this forum today when over my business education listserve (I teach computer applications) several ideas were given on how to use an ipad in the classroom. One feature was that you could download an app that would allow you to connect to your laptop/desktop and operate it using the ipad. (So you could walk around the classroom while you taught) So I performed a search to see if the g-tablet had a similar functionality (which I have not found yet).
Then I see all of these different ROMs and updates, etc. that can be used to make the g-tablet more user-friendly. I have a Motorola Droid phone and am familiar with the android market, etc.
What I need to know is what would be recommended steps to get my g-tablet up and running more effectively? Most of the posts that talk about the new ROMs started before the Dec 24th update, so I am not sure what the next step(s) would be.
I appreciate your help.
Kim
Probably the 1st thing I'd suggest is to get Google Market (aka "market") onto your Gtab and do at least the main "market fix". That would get you access to a ton of applications.
Once you do that, you can download pocketcloud from the market. That'll allow you to access your PC from the Gtab.
There's also office style suites in the market, such as documents to go, that allow you to view and/or edit MS Word docs, etc. That'd probably be useful.
The "gMarket" that comes with the Gtab takes you to the Handango website. That's NOT the Google market.
Jim
Thank you Jim. I found the guide to install a different ROM and followed the directions to use Vegan 5.1. I now have access to the Market and the PocketCloud app you suggested works great!
Thanks so much!
have you tried getting on the IRC channel irc.freenode.net #tegratab live discussion and many of the nicks you see here can be found there as well.
I'm sure you already know this, but the sort of app you are looking for is a VNC viewer. I haven't compared the available android vnc apps yet, but a quick search should turn up serveral options quickly.
Here's something a quick google search turned up:

That would've worked for the OP if he had VNC server running. Fyi, one of the nice things about pocketcloud is that it does both Vnc and RDP.
Not pushing pocketcloud... Just an Fyi.

I'm not looking for a two-way sync here. I want a one way sync!!
So here's what I want to do. My company wants to switch our salesforce to tablets, be it ipads or otherwise. After researching ipads, I find their software choices to be extremely limiting. And while the android software is generally similar, I can root and create 'factory' images of how these devices will be setup for our employees right on the SD card for emergency recovery, so I've pretty much settled on the galaxy tab 10.1. As far as sync software goes, I want an android program that will check a remote location for files and download them. This needs to be automatic, if left in the hands of our reps, nothing would work.
So I'm thinking a desktop app that allows me to select a folder/folders to upload from, and an android app that downloads those files. Extra points if the client side recognizes when a file has been updated and downloads the newest version.
Ideas?
I'm not 100% sure if this is what you're looking for, and I haven't tried the app myself but based on the description it seems as though this app would do exactly what you want. You could set up triggers to send to each device to download your new files.

The app I would like to present is called X-Link and is intended to make file transfers between devices (Android or PC) easy.
It's using multicasts to find other clients within the same WiFi network.
So no setup ist needed.
In addition to the Android app there is also a Java based PC client available.
This client has been tested on Linux and Windows but might work on other configurations.
The full description and a short video can be found on the Android Market page:
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.fun2code.android.xlink
You can not only transfer files between PC and Android but also between Android devices.
This is beta software, so there are still bugs.
Please report them in this thread. I'll have a look as soon as I find time and will contact some of you to get things fixed.
There are surely some timing (and timeout) problems which need some attention.
Make sure your router supports multicasts.
Please post comments, I'll try to read them all
Link to PC client
http://www.fun2code.de/downloads/xlink/XLinkClient.jar
Copying of directories
Supported since 0.8.4 beta.
Testing and how you can help
Multicast test
To test if your network is able to deal with multicast messages you can do the following test:
1. Download the file MulticastSender.jar and MulticastReceiver.jar.
2. On one PC start the MulticastSender.jar and on another the MulticastReceiver.jar.
The sender sends screenshots. If you see the screenshots on the receiver's side, multicasts are working for you.
If not, X-Link will not work.
If this works but X-Link doesn't it's likely that there is a problem concerning timeouts within X-Link.
In this case, please send me a mail (xlink [at] fun2code.de).
If sharing on Android does not work
Sharing does not seem to be working in some apps.
If you encounter such a problem, please download the app XLinkDebug.apk and install it.
Use sharing as you normally would with X-Link but select X-Link Debug instead.
On execution the app will copy the information needed for me to fix the issue to the clipboard.
Please paste the clipboard into a mail ans send it to the following address: xlink [at] fun2code.de
installed both the client and app on my Nexus One (CM7)

Was your phone on a WiFi network?
obviously, yes it is
The devices have to be connected to the same WiFi network and the network has to support multicasts (which usually should be the case).
If you are on a weak WiFi signal it might take more than one try to find other devices.
My test devices are:
Galaxy Nexus, Nexus One and Notion Ink Adam
i really do not have knowledge about the Multicast thing, but my Wifi Signal is good. And i used SAMBA and other wifi file sharing apps and they all worked using the same wifi.
And clicked RELOAD many times but i cant see any device in the popdown menu..
Hm ... so this seems not to work on your network
Multicast is different from TCP connections, so this can't be compared.
Wow, it actually worked in HTC Desire!! Great app!! Now I can transfer files w/o any cables!! Need sometime to allow 2 devices to connect though..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I don't know anything about Multicast, but my Mac is on the same Wifi network as my Galaxy Nexus, and the Mac couldn't see the Nexus. I tried "Reload" several times.
Works on Windows 7 64-bit and a Galaxy Nexus. Cool app, really like it!
My only suggestions would either be to get rid of the menu and put it all in the "drag file here" area, or maybe some slightly simpler graphics. They come off a little cheesy.
Other than that, it works well.
Next steps would be to keep app closed, but still have access to dropping files. Root access? I'm not sure how it would work.
App and client work seamlessly with windows 7 and tmo sgsII.
Only thing I notice is inability to share pics directly from my phone's gallery. I use my file explorer and it works fine.
Amazing work. Coffee money on the way
So this is like airdroid but rather than the file browser/tools being built into the web address there's a desktop client?

Hello There,
Using Windows8, DHD and TF101. My PC had no problem seeing the items on my network Alas, every time I tried to swap a file over I just kept getting a pop message telling me there was an upload error. Thanks.
Pity because it was something I had been looking for :-(
Worked perfectly on Macbook running Lion and galaxy nexus
awesome app!
amazing app and super simple to use/set up, great stuff dude =D

Make sure you have x-link at the front of your screen (on your phone) seems it disappears after being inactive and you'll get the upload error problem. I am of course speaking from experience as I just fought with that, bringing x-link back to the front seemed to solve it.
Thanks to all of you for testing!
The X-Link app has to be active on the Android device to be visible to others and for the transfer to work.
If you close the app during data transfer, the transfer will break.
I'm glad that it worked for some of you. I'll do some debugging next week.
Hope things will improve...
For does of you having problems seeing other devices.
You can do the following test.
Run the PC client from console: java -jar XLinkClient.jar
Then try to detect you PC from the Android device.
You should see an output similar to this on the console:
Connecting: 192.168.0.198/4500
If an Exception occurs there was a problem when connecting back to the Android device.
If no output is visible, it's likely that multicasts are not working within your network.
Might help newer users who want to try out your app if you put a download link on your web site or here in this thread. I found your app through xda article and didn't realize that I had to type the link out verbatim with 'XLinkClient.jar' having correct capitalization lol. Took me a minute to figure out, so newer people might just give up without trying it. Just fyi ;-)
Great app, thanks for your work! Working on Mac running Lion and Droid 3.
Working great on Windows 8 Consumer preview and LG Optimus 2X. If i had a job right now, i would send you money for a beer, but i dont have a job at the moment, so a cant. Thanks.
