I'm not looking for a two-way sync here. I want a one way sync!!
So here's what I want to do. My company wants to switch our salesforce to tablets, be it ipads or otherwise. After researching ipads, I find their software choices to be extremely limiting. And while the android software is generally similar, I can root and create 'factory' images of how these devices will be setup for our employees right on the SD card for emergency recovery, so I've pretty much settled on the galaxy tab 10.1. As far as sync software goes, I want an android program that will check a remote location for files and download them. This needs to be automatic, if left in the hands of our reps, nothing would work.
So I'm thinking a desktop app that allows me to select a folder/folders to upload from, and an android app that downloads those files. Extra points if the client side recognizes when a file has been updated and downloads the newest version.
Ideas?
I'm not 100% sure if this is what you're looking for, and I haven't tried the app myself but based on the description it seems as though this app would do exactly what you want. You could set up triggers to send to each device to download your new files.

For all the newbs that want a straight answer on gameloft games for you captivate, here it is.
after searching and searching on here to figure out how to get 3rd party apps (in paticular gameloft games) without root, i figured it out!!
anyways as you know at&t is not supported on gamelofts website, just t mobile verison and sprint. so what do you do.
1. well first get the captivate usb drivers installed on you computer from samsungs website
2.then i guess you have to install microsoft NET.framework4 to computer,
3.then install the sideload wonder machine to computer, (search wonder machine on this forum, they wont let me post link sorry), unzip it
4. now off to gameloft.com, select what ever android game you want, when it asks for carrier (i selected verison) you can probably do any, when it asks for make pick samsung of course and model ( i did vibrant) again i imagine you can pick any, vibrant worked for me. pay the people. they'll send you a sms with link. if your phone is rooted maybe this would work, dunno. anyways forward it to a email address and open it on your computer, click link and SAVE it IN the wonder machine folder (like in the second folder where all the icons are)
5. enable usb debugging on phone in applications- development before youplug in phone to computer
6. plug phone in computer, pull the status bar down on phone click whatever the usb thing says connect or something, then MOUNT the sd
7. open wonder machine folder, open the andriod central swm icon, run of course, choose the file (gameloft or whatever), click ok then the go button, it should take a few seconds and then say success. shut off usb debugging and it should be on your phone and work
im currently playing modern combat sandstorm on my phone now and lovin it, took me forever to figure out how to get it but thanks to this forum and the wonder machine my search is over. now if i can just get better battery life and take off the at&t apps i'll be stoked
hope this helps someone, all the information was from this forum but no one really gave straight clear answers. so now if your new to andriods like me you wont have to dig so much to find this answer. this was really easy to do
Good tip. At least it gives us a way to get them for now. I wonder why AT&T isnt supported though?

Because AT&T is locking down their phones to third party installers.
Does anybody else have a problem with Gangstar where multi touch seems to be locked/broken. This is on an SGS phone btw.
When i select the Captiate as my model, I only get 2 games that show up under "All Ganes." Does this sound correct? <on the gameloft website that is>

The OP said that you can't use AT&T as your provider. Use T-mobile and select the Vibrant as your model and you should get a lot more games.
That's alot of steps. If you don't have side loading enabled already then you should. All you need to do is go under the vibrant games. Buy one. It texts your phone and then you download from the text. Done!

you can always use marketenabler, set it to t-mobile and then purchase to your hearts content
I have all the try before you buy games that they offer for the Vibrant. They run smoothly on the captivate.

DUH!!! I just skipped to step 1, didnt see that part. Thanks.
Ok...so I did this a week or so ago and it worked perfectly, but now I can't get it to work. Once I email the link to myself I get the message, "Sorry, this game is not available for your phone." I put t-mobile as carrier and vibrant for phone...is there something I'm not doing
Are you doing step 4 on your computer.you can't do it on your phone.you have to use wonder machine to get it on to your phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
yes, I'm doing it on my computer
You should just open the link on your computer save it in wonder machine folder and follow the rest of the steps to install

Unless they changed something to were you can't so it anymore I don't know,i haven't done this in a while, plus now I have side loading enabled so this makes or a lot easier.if your rooted enable side loading (get 3rd party apps) by following instructions on the how to wiki, then when you get the sms with link you can open it right from your phone

I believe Gameloft made it that the games need to be downloaded via a phone browser, it looks like it checks to see what device you're downloading from and if you use a computer to grab the link, it denies you with an 'Unknown' device.
I am having the same experience. You can no longer tell it that you have a Vibrant and download the games to your computer or the Captivate. Now we need a way to have the browser tell the server that we have Vibrants...anyone know how to do that???
On a side note, can someone post the apk of all the trials??? That shouldn't be against any rules or laws since they are free to begin with.
Also, if you purchase the games, will it then allow you to download them to your computer? If the trials are as good as they seem, I'll definitely be purchasing some of them!
Got it
Just changing your user agent string seems to work. I installed the "user agent switcher" add-in for Firefox, then created a new user agent using a string copied from the i9000's entry in deviceatlas.com. I used the one for Android 2.1, en-us:
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1-update1; en-us; GT-I9000 Build/ECLAIR) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
Then you can just download the APK to your computer and sideload it via your preferred method whether that's ADB, wonder machine, copy to sideload-enabled phone, whatever.
Is there a work-around if regular SMS doesn't work on your phone? I use Google Voice for SMS but Gameloft won't send the link to a GV number.

Does anyone know how Chrome to Phone reacts with multiple devices?
I have Chrome to phone nicely working on both home/work laptops and Chrome to Phone on my phone
but now I have a Xoom I'd like to be able to push links to either phone or xoom depending on what I am planning on using... I recently tweeted a link from laptop to pick up on Xoom... when I thought it'd be simplier to C2P it...
Had a quick google and search on the forum but couldn't see any/many people doing it without logging out and logging in and using multiple accounts...
just a simple 'where do you want to send the link' a bit like the Android Market works would be good enough...
Thanks
Have the same question! Got a phone+xoom and unfortunately the one i install chrome-to-phone apk the last is the device that gets "registered". no way to choose the device to which to send to!
bummer!
It sends to both. I can't see a way to change it.

I wonder if its something we can bug google to add as a feature in an upcoming update...
Would so love to see something like this - send either to my phone or my tablet: it makes perfect sense! Wonder why nobody has made anything like this?
Apparently more than one extension exists for this function.
Use the correct extension, this allows for selecting a device from all recognised devices in your Google profile:

Hey guys, I'm currently using a HTC sensation with the default browser.
The other day a website I was on redirected me to an untrustworthy site which then (via javascript) started an automatic download (virus) I quickly killed my connection and deleted the partial download.
So on my PC I run Google chrome with a "click to play" plugin to avoid rogue javascripts, I am looking for something similar for my phone.
I know chrome is available for my phone however it does not support flash player which is a requirement, I am aware my current browser has a "on demand" option for plugins but I have tested it and it doesn't work.
I tried opera today and couldn't get along with it.
Could anyone tell me the best way to control what gets downloaded from websites on my phone.
Thankyou in advance for any helpful replies. D
I mean, maybe I have been amiss, but I was under the longstanding impression that hijacks, viruses, and all such malware really didn't effect Linux systems. Like, at all.
Well I don't know much about these operating systems but an executable that downloads itself is not something I want on my phone, regardless of its capabilities.
It was an android application package I do not know if its able to extract itself or if it relies on the user to click on it in the download section, don't know what it installs but I'd rather not find out.
I know there is a lot of gripe about the White list of what websites are allowed to use flash. I don't have a lot of knowledge on the topic so I wanted to fish around a bit for some information and pose some questions.
-Is it always going to be like this? Is it likely that they will release someway for users to control their own flash preferences?
-Is it likely that a 3rd party will release something that will allow a setting like this?
- [Edit] If more support for Flash is to be forthcoming, what would one expect the timeline to be? How long would it take? [I know this will mostly be speculation ]
- [EDIT] if firefox or chrome were developed for it, would they have to run off of the whitelist as well?
-As someone who hasn't touched windows 8 full, does the full OS have a similar flash limitation?
Also if this is the wrong place for this I am terribly sorry and will move the thread where ever it goes.

Hello
I don't think it will always be like this. I think someone may create a tool that automatically adds websites or simplify the process for us. Or we may even have a list that the community creates and we could possibly set our browser to auto download the list via options or script or 3rd party software. That being said, I do not think full windows will have the same flash limitation..at least not in desktop mode, because they can install whatever windows app they choose. It's an awesome device nonetheless.

There is no doubt that I am enjoying my new toy. However I really enjoy certain facebook games, like Marvel Avenger's and Draw something, but unfortunately the flash support of Facebook doesn't extend to these. I got this to replace my laptop, it's unfortunate that I can't play these on the go any more. I suppose a time line for flash support would be another question I have.
laptop replacement...I think the surface pro is probably a better option for laptop replacement than the RT. Unless of course you only do light amount of things on your laptop, and do not care about not being able to install 'regular' windows applications such as Photoshop. Even then you could remote desktop into your PC and use those applications, Some people have reported very good results using remote desktop on the surface, but I have yet to try it or myself. Don't get me wrong though, the surface RT is a very powerful device and a lot better then android and ipad as far as productivity IMO. We are just little behind on the number of applications, and even then you could argue that most android and apple apps are useless. Nonetheless, the do have us beat by the numbers. We get a real high quality app right out the box - Office.
I was at a crossroads before I purchased my Surface. I love androids and I couldn't decide between RT or android tablet. I played with the Surface and I feel in love, Whereas the android tablet would have been just like having a bigger phone. There's not much I could do in an Android tablet that I couldn't do on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
I also though I wanted the Surface PRO at first, but upon further research, I came to the conclusion that RT was the right choice. I wanted a Tablet that can do light PC related tasks, not a full mini laptop - I have a DELL XPS 15 and multiple desktops for any 'serious' work I may need to do. The pro will probably get HOT and windy and noisy due to the fans as well. I think a lot of people who purchase the pro may end up returning it and getting a RT because I do not think the PRO will functions completely like a tablet. I may be wrong but I guess only time will tell.
I love this thing.
To answer some questions:
Win8 (x86/x64) includes the whitelist in its iecompatdata.xml file, but doesn't "respect" it (i.e. all Flash sites work).
While an official tool to control Flash usage is quite possible, don't hold your breath. A few unofficial tools already exist, but tend to be a bit limited and/or cumbersome to use (I'm working on an improved one myself).
A Windows Store app, even if it could get approved, probably wouldn't work for most people; the relevant file is outside the app sandbox, so the user would have to manually grant permission to access it.
For Facebook games (or other places where an external video is embedded manually), try adding the domain of the Flash file itself (usually found in an OBJECT tag, with an extension like ".flv"). For example, if the Flash file comes from "http://flash.facebook-games.com/IMaedAGaem/flashgame.flv", you should try adding "facebook-games.com" to the whitelist. You can try using my old scripts (working on updates for them) for this, although I can't promise they'll work in that case (haven't ever tried). The link is in my signature.

So what's the real hope? That more websites get whitelisted?

That, or that Microsoft discontinue the whitelist
you do understand that you can easily add to the whitelist yourself right?

Yes, but it would be nice to not have to. And I'm not always 100% successful
We have emails, clouds, folders, files, devices, just so many things to keep track of. Can we keep up with them all? If you said yes, then this app is not for you. If you said yes but want to make your life easier or give your brain a break then listen up folks.
I believe most of us would remember where a particular file is, who wrote an email a couple of days ago, what kind of attachment it was, etc. But what if the only thing you remember is a phrase or a certain keywords of the sentence. How would you find it? Your client or manager wants you to resend a report back you've submitted 5 months ago and you just don't remember which cloud services you've uploaded to. Perhaps, you remember a certain parts of the PDF file but can't find the file because the file's name is something completely different.
KonanLink is here to solve all these problems. This is probably the most advanced file search app out on the market right now, perhaps a bit too advanced for normal users IMO. There's computer & mobile side of the app. The benefits of having the KonanLink computer version is that the app will index your computer and use it as a search engine. This means you would be able to search through content of files Also, it turns your computer as a server so when you need to search your PC remotely for files, you would also be able to download it to your mobile.
Features
-Searches emails, cloud services, PC, mobile devices at once.
-Searches through contents of PDF, Word, Excel, Power Point files.
-Search remotely from anywhere in the world.
-100% control over your privacy. Nothing gets stored on the server anywhere.

We have released this app early last year and just started to market the app. It has about 10K downloads from the Google Play Store. We are constantly trying to improve the product and add more features. If you guys have any feedback or suggestions, please let me know and my team could make the adjustments accordingly. I also think our UI is a bit on the weak side so if any of you UX guys want to bash on it, I would love it! Give it a try you guys. I know file search app market isn't too big but don't want to give up on the app....just yet.
I linked up my mac, gmail, dropbox but I can't seem to find files from my mac? Is this a bug?
