Hello guys,
I have posted about this issue before maybe six or more months ago, but it was not sorted out. So basically my problem is that I am running LeeDroid 3.3.3 on my phone. I have been using this ROM since the first time I rooted my phone. The problem is that I want to change this ROM, but my phone will not run any other ROM at. Any ROM that I install my phone hangs on the white HTC logo screen and does not go anywhere from there. I have had a few instances where my phone would load up a new ROM that I try to use, but it would eventually freeze and when I would restart the phone, it would never get past the white HTC screen. My phone does seem to load up Cyanogen Mod successfully most of the time, but I do not like that ROM. I have tried to re-root my phone, use a different SD card, format my SD card and used both CWR and 4ext recovery to try to install different ROMs. Nothing but the original stock ROM, LeeDroid 3.3.3 and Cyanogen Mod load up and I hope that someone might have dealt with a similar issue over this time that has passed. Thanks for reading and hope you can help!

did you do complete wipe of phone using super wipe
Yes. I don't use superwipe thought. I just wipe everything with 4ext Recovery. I used to use superwipe, but it did not help.

Make sure that your phone does not have a hardware issue. There's no reason for a custom rom to work and other not if you are S-OFF. Make sure that the roms are for your phone and not for a different device, that might explain that.

Yes, my phone is S-OFF as it says in bootloader and every ROM I try comes from the Inspire 4G Developer section in this forum. I am left to believe that this really is a hardware issue, but how can my phone be the only one? I have never heard anyone else have a similar issue. And it is also weird that LeeDroid 3.3.3 works no problem.

Some roms seem to take control of phone. I had and issue with a custom rom don't recall which one is was but it would not let flash any other rom I had to use the rooted att pd98 zip to back to rooted stock then installed a custom rom with no issues after that. Never used that rom again. Might be the issue your having.

Well I unrooted my phone using the ACE hack kit a few times and then rooted it again and tried to put on a different ROM each time but my phone still does not load the ROM. My phone loads up the backup LeeDroid no problem though. So I was wondering if something from LeeDroid changed my phone that it does not accept any other custom ROMs. I wonder also if I unrooted the phone with a new pd98 zip from a phone that didnt have LeeDroid on would possibly help?

No you need the rooted att pd98 zip. You are already rooted no need to mess with the ace hack kit. Power up with volume down and power button into hboot you should see s-off meaning its rooted just reboot and download zip then just place in root of SD card power off then power up to hboot with volume down and power button it will recognize zip volume up for yes to install let it do its thing then your back to rooted stock att gingerbread rom and radio. Then install whichever custom rom you want just follow their installation instructions on their page.

Do not rename it just place it in root of sd card
Do not use this if you are still s-on

You can't download from fileserve anymore unless you are the one who uploaded the file.

Sadly, the link you gave me will not allow me to download the pd98 zip. By any chance do you know where else I could get it?
Get the rooted 2.3.3 PD98IMG here in the 4th post.

Be sure to read Gene's instructions in that post before flashing with that file. It will need renamed.
I have it in drop box give me a few.

Ok so i have the htc inspire and i tried to root it today, which didnt work out lol... but anywase whenever i try to play music or do anything that involves sound on the phone it dosnt work? i have a feeling that it may be a kernel issue but im not sure... my kernel is 2.6.32.2d now i dont know what the stock kernal is but im pretty sure this isnt it, so if you guys know anything about this or what has happened to my phone please tell me... thanks
It might help if you state what method you used to try to root, how far you got, and why it failed.

You need to elaborate a little more if you want some assistance.
Do you have s-Off?
What is your baseband number? That will indicate what radio you have and will give others an idea of where in the process you are.
Assuming you made it far enough in the process to get s-Off, you can just flash the ota stock ROM by attn1, which will have the OTA radio in it, if it turns out you are on the downgraded ROM/radio.
If you have anything other than the stock kernel/ROM on your phone, then the rooting was at least partially successful. You probably just need to get clockworkmod recovery installed correctly so you can install custom roms.

Yup, that looks like the downgraded radio the hack kit leaves you with.
S-Off basically means you can flash stuff. "Security off"
So as Gene said, you're partially through the process. You just need to get a good ROM/radio on.

ok man i just want to get my phone back to stock... is there a way that i could just do a FULL wipe of the device? ive tried doing it through the hboot way and going through the settings and doing the restore but both were unsuccesful
Just flash it eith rom i had same problem i use attn1 method i flashed with rom coredroid and all is fine
htc desire hd/inspire
Now that you are basically rooted there is not necessarily an easy way to get back to plain stock.
It can take a while for the average user I believe using the s on tool... but considering I do not have all of the info I will let someone else answer your question in full.

Go back to h boot, if it says "Ship s-off on the very top of the screen you should be all set. Make sure clockworkmod is installed. if not download rom manager from market and flash cwm through rom manager. Next go to the development form and find attn1's stock OTA update with radio. Download the file to your computer, place it on the root of your sd card. Make sure the file is named PD98IMG.zip, turn off phone and boot into h boot, when it says apply update? Press vol up and watch the magic happen. Also make sure there is no other files named PD98IMG.zip on your sd card as this will cause trouble. You will still be rooted with s-off but that's ok, I mean your were already trying to root, just cause you lost sound doesn't mean you should be afraid of rooting. Once you fix your problem and get a good handle on things, you'll be in love!

It says that because alpharev recovery it's a different version of recovery. If you want to use rom manager you need to flash the one that it wants. And don't worry, I'm using it and it works
thats what i had to do
The version rom manager will flash has the charging bug. Just boot into recovery and back up from there. Not that hard

I wouldn't worry about the bug... I'm using that version and I have no problems, I also know people who flashed the "bugless" cwm, and they experienced the charging issue.... Its a case by case scenario, see what works for you... Just make sure you keep your battery from completely dying and monitor charging....

My first question is: is it possible to get the OTA update on a rooted phone?
The 2nd question is there something I can do to get the Software Update check work?
I realise that my first question may answer this one as well, it's only just that all of the other ROM's I've tried did at least seem to contact a checking service and come back with a response that No Updates have been found. This one just keeps waiting for a response and never gets one.
Want to at least try the official OTA ICS update from Vodafone UK if possible, without having to load a stock ROM and locking my phone again.
Thanks

It has always been traditionally said not to apply an OTA on a rooted phone as, historically, it's caused nothing but problems. Whether the same is true now I can't say BUT I would not recommend it personally
do i need to uninstall only SU, or su and clockwork to install ota?
sorry for my bad english
thanks
CWM needs to go as well - you need the stock recovery
Thanks for the advice. I'll have to go stock if CM9 is a long way off. Or try 7.x again, although I'll really miss ICS.

I think as long as you have stock recovery but are S-OFF; it shouldn't be an issue. I looked at some previous posts , albeit from the Evo forum and it seems to be fine. I could be wrong, though.
I keep seeing people post about being rooted and flashing the OTA update. Now someone please, please, please correct me if I am wrong, but when you flash as new ROM, unless you just flash a new system via ADB fastboot commands, you flash a new kernel and all every time you flash a new ROM. So therefor it does not matter if you are rooted cause the rooted kernel will be replaced with a new ROM. For those out there that do not know the kernel is contained in the boot.img of a ROM. Now in a s tock ROM it is. Of always named boot.img but it is still pretty much the same thing with maybe a little more than a custom TOM's would be. So please people stop wording about being rooted, it does not matter. If you are on the correct stock ROM and have the stock recovery you are good to go to flash and run the OTA. It does not matter if you are S-off or S-on either.
It does 100% matter as otherwise the SU app/binary will still be present and potentially cause issue to the 'stock' ROM. Go look at the Desire forums all over the net for examples as to why you shouldn't flash an OTA onto a rooted handset

Ok I well look into this further when I get home from work. I have not looked at the Desire forums yet, bit I will later today. My question is though are the Desire users having to use the stock recovery, or has someone made a flashable .zip file for them of the OTA? If so this could have something to do with the troubles. Like I said I will check into this further this evening. I still say it should not as the kernel is replaced when you flash the OTA update, bit I could very well be wrong.
It's not that you can't do it, you can, it's just not recommended. By all means try it but should it go wrong flashing an RUU is all that would work

I totally understand what you are saying, but flashing stock is not the only way to fix it, it is just the easiest and most user friendly way to fix it. It is pretty much a one click fix, and that is because of the RUU it self. When you flash via a RUU the utility runs a Task 28 on the NAND memory first meaning the NAND is totally wipped, meaning all partitions, before the ROM is flashed. Now you can also use ADB to remove and reflash all partitions,Splash 1(mtdblock0), recovery(mtdblock1), boot(mtdblock2), system(mtdblock3). cache(mtdblock4), userdata(mtdblock5).
Now back to the question about being rooted, I still have not got home yet to get on my computer to look at the desire forums. Now from what I know root is acheived on the kernel level cause that is what root is. It allows for direct communication with the kernel, again correct me if I am wrong. Now I understand that Superuser app binaries would still be present if you flashed just the system. But if you flash a whole new ROM wich is what the OTA update does, then the kernel is replaced with the kerneel in the OTA update, which by is either a completely new kernel or a modified kernel that HTC has made to work with ICS. I have not had time to look into wich one it is, but from my experience of trying to help port the SDK of ICS to the Sensation it is probably a completely new kernel.
Anyway I will have to do some research on the differences between stock recoveries and custom recoveries. Specifically the processes the recoveries run when flashing a ROM from SD card, and just what all is in the OTA update files. Once I get to do this I will be more able to give a hard core answer to this question. Oh and thinks to the EddyOS for helping to get me back into digging around in ROM files and learning more about how Android works.
Edit: I totally forgot to mention JTAG, this is another way that you could fix the problem, all be it sort of a major over kill for the problem, but still a fix.

Yea, that's my way of doing it. It pushes it from your computer to your SD Card so you can flash it in CWM from there.
If you have no /data/ on your SD Card, that's ok. I did the same thing. Once you get a ROM installed and working, you'll be fine.

Thanks for the replys. I acutally got ADB to work by using the mount feature in TWRP recovery tool. However now any custom rom I run will only crash and get stuck in continous boot cycle if I try to activate wifi. This whole issue started when my stock phone got an update two days ago, and it completely messed up my wifi. I should of waited and taken it to the T-mobile store but now its too late. I have unlocked, rooted and put a custom rom on it. I tried using the RUU file to go to 1.53 but i keep getting 155 unknown exception error. For now I will just have to use my phone without wifi till I have more time to look into this wifi issue.

Unable to locate 1.84 RUU, but I heard that a user named "football" has it but requires a donation. The next best step I think is to try a rooted Nanorid of 1.84 that I found in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698861&page=4. Ill try this when I have more time. Right now using Zydroid 3.5 rom which works fine except for my wifi. Loading my wifi will crash my phone and put me in a crazy boot cycle.
Alright so I have use a 1.84 rooted backup and successfuly installed it on to my phone. However I still have my wifi issue, also my blue tooth does not work. I also loaded the boot.img file from the backup through fastboot but still having the same error.
I flashed different radios, tried nanoroid backup of 1.84, but wifi does not work. Wifi stopped working while I was still on stock rom. In the end I paid 20 bucks for tmobile to ship me a new phone, hopefully I wont have issues and I will stay on stock rom.

When you sent it back you went back to RUU and locked bootloader, etc?
I haven't sent it back yet, I will be getting my new HTC ONE S in the mail in two days, and then I can ship my old phone back. Right now my phone is on a nanoroid back up of 1.84 stock rom with root. I tried going back to 1.53 but we dont have S-off so unable to do it. If i try to do that i get 155 unknown error in the RUU launcher. The t-mobile techs didnt know that my phone is rooted cause it basically is the stock rom. I have relocked the phone and I hope that the real techs dont notice that I unlocked the bootloader and it that its still rooted.
Im cancelling my order, some how my wifi works now. Yesterday I did a wifi radio install from europe, but it didnt seem to work. I also relocked the system and rebooted couple of times, this may have helped solve the issue as well.
hi all, i am a novice at all this stuff, and i am sorry for posting probably a similar thread to what others may have said but my problem is a little different. i am having a problem with my wifes att network htc inspire 4g. i rooted it last year with the ace hack kit. the problem is that it is stuck in ace hack kit clock work recovery. it will not start up at all unless it is attched to the computer, and thats when it will go to cw recovery. it will vibrate 3 times and blink a red led and the screen goes blank unless i press the volume down button but it doesnt stay lit up only when i hit the vol down button. then when i hit an option by hitting the power button the phone resets to cw recovery again. if i try to acess hboot, it vibrates 5 times and lights up yellow. i have tried wiping, formatting, and everything but reboot to cw recovery again. from the posts that i have read similar to this problem, everyone says to get another rom and flash from hboot. being that i cant get to hboot any other ideas.

If you wiped and formatted, then you've probably erased whatever ROM you did have. At this point I'd probably use the ACE Hack Kit again, using the option to return everything to stock.... then use it again to re-root the phone. Then I'd install 4ext Recovery instead of CW. Then use 4ext to flash another ROM. I'd recommend Ice Cold Sandwich, found in the DHD development forum.

This is my wifes phone. She said that she didn't get any error messages that she knows of. She went to use her phone one day and it was stuck in clockwork recovery. I believe the phone had froyo installed when it came factory but I updated it to the att gingerbread before I rooted it. The phone worked fine till just recently. Was there another update from att recently? Any who that's where it is stuck. No error codes just the lights like I explained above. Thx

There was an update from AT&T recently. Did she apply that update? Is that when the problem started?

That's probably what happened. If she didnt iniate it then it probably auto updated. She's not to technical about that stuff she probably ly was hitting button's like she does. Any ideas on what to do from here. I could probably get a older romantic for it but the way it is now I can't flash it.
Best guess is to flash a ruu.
Try uninstalling the htc drivers (if you have them) and install them again to see if the computer recognizes the cell.
