Welcome to the forums. You should be fine removing widgets without them borking others. None of them should be dependent on eachother. When I'm on sense, I delete half of them with no problems.
However, if you have a question post it over here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=652 from now on, as that is the QnA forum.
Is there really a reason to do this (free up space on the system partition) unless you are making space to install another app in system? I guess what I want to know, is, do I risk problems with stability, etc if the system partition is nearly or completely full? I would think not, since the this partition is normally read only when the phone is being used.
Thanks. Sorry for posting here.

I've been getting constant FC's while opening my contacts list lately (process.android.acore, or is it android.process.acore, it's either of those) and I'm running out of ideas on how to fix it. I've applied all the ROMs available for this device (yes factory reset in recovery, wiped and reformatted the usuals, fixed permissions, etc) and regardless of each fresh install, each ROM always FC's with the same .acore crash when going through my phone contacts. The rest of the system apps and everything else works fine, just no access to contacts for longer than 5 seconds. Was hoping I could find an answer from someone more tech savvy than myself, as I do not know where in the system directories .acore files reside, let alone how to alter them. Thanks to anyone that can help me through this annoyance.

I guess Its possible it could be a hardware issue. Out of curiousity do you use titanium backup or anyother backup service?

Ofcourse But the last time I manually restored using Norton Utilities, only installing the apps I used the most, and got the same result. I even tried using a contacts app from another source, moved the original app to the sdcard and renamed the new one in its place using root exp, changed the permissions to what they needed to be, then I found myself without a working dialer app...lol

It would seem that the contacts app is deeply rooted in the sense build, although it still FC's while using other launchers.

Yes the Contacts apk is deeply rooted in sense framework. You cant just use another apk to replace it.

Can I remove the browser, email and messaging apps? I currently have them frozen in TB with no negative outcome. I simply don't use them, ever.

Short answer, yes.
Long answer, yes but it's probably not a good idea to do so.

Why wouldn't it be good? Serious question not cocky.

A lot of things rely on then to function. Freezing isn't the same; I freeze Wifi Calling with no issues but when I try to uninstall it I get constant force closes every second until I do a battery pull, and that's on a bit of propriety software! I sincerely doubt letting Messaging or the like exist is hurting you enough to warrant risking potently annoying problems

I just hate having things installed I don't use, like rom manager and dev tools. Never use either.

+1
Those apps are tied to android system dunno why it wont give fc on freeze since its almost the same as uninstalling them. But ya if you did delete those you would get tons of fc on startup and be forced to do a battery pull and reflash rom or backup.

Because you also need to delete the corresponding .so file in the lib folder.

If you are on a stock rom and delete system apps you can never install any future OTA updates. The updates check all system files first and make sure they are unchanged. If you freeze apps you just defrost them before installing an OTA. If you deleted them then no chance of OTA update, period. If you are not on a stock rom then it doesn't matter. You might wind up with a continuous force close issue that requires reflashing the rom.

I just froze them instead. Maybe before I flash my next rom I'll give it a go.

I got rid of stock browser and tmobile stuff off of my phone and didn't receive FC's.
The downside ro this is if you remove the browser or anything when you do a hard reset it won't be there so you have to rely on a back up and be careful what you unistall.
I learned that the hard way when i first started with android. I unistalled swype since i use SwiftKey but did a hard reset to clear everything out and well i couldn't log in to my google account at the beginning because there was no virtual keyboard to use.

Ever since I flashed the newest humble I have the plain white sms and I want to know how I can get the original sms that had the green and orange messaging blocks.I hope this is a clear question.

You would need to get a hold of the Samsung messaging app .apk for starters. There may be more to it than that though since the Rom is themed and danalo made a lot framework changes. Somebody more informed than I will probably weigh in. You could always pm danalo himself and ask about it. I know I've replaced .apk's in the past or added ones back in with relative ease. Just not sure about the messaging app.

Yeah you would just replace mms apps
Sent from my Gummy Charged GBE 2.1 using XDA App
you need mms.apk and mmsprovisions.apk from the rom which has the look you want, make copies of old ones as backup then delete them and put new ones in /system/app and reboot
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
Ok i will try it out thanks.

I have been using the mms_cyan.apk
Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901216
And have been quite happy with it, with a couple exceptions. 1) It does not show the notification on my lock screen like my stock mms app does and 2) found out last night than anytime I go to send an audio or video file, the app FC's. If anyone could help me either figure out how to resolve these 2 issues or if it's too complex for someone who had little to no experience working w/ apks perhaps resolve it and tell me what had to be done so that I can learn from the experience I would be greatful.
I have included my stock mms.apk, the mms_cyan.apk, as well as my framework-res.apk in the zip file.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: I am using a LG-C800 on 2.3.4 if that matters
Any idea guys? And this may need to be moved to the Android specific forum?

Maybe the mms.cyan is missing files from your stock mms.apk

But where would I begin to try and resolve the issue? I'm pretty computer savvy, but programming and the like has never really been my strong suite; although not afraid to try if pointed in the right direction.
The files u downloaded, r they designed for your phone?
Sent from my HTC_A510c
I haven't been able to find anything designed for my phone yet. Newer model. But everything works aside from being able to send audio or video sends pictures fine.
That might be why then, maybe
Sent from my HTC_A510c
Actually, just tested it and I can't send any mms with this app... can receive just fine though. Where would I have to start to make the mms_cyan compatible? Cause the stock mms app sucks horribly, cannot even choose what folder to download attachments to. Really like the one I'm using but the limitation of not being able to send an mms just isn't a viable option...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
A dev could probaly help you on that, I have no dev experience
Sent from my HTC_A510c
Well here's hoping some dev responds.. lol
Mod, please move this post to the android dev questions forum.

Ok so after looking at the logcat I'm seeing that for picture messages it's being denied by the server for some reason... as for the problem with adding audio and it crashing I'm still at a loss... any dev able to possibly offer some insight?
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
if it worked in ur phone place the apk in the rom and reload it, if never worked, the apk might not be for your phone
Maybe the mms.cyan is missing files from your stock mms.apk
Any idea as to where to start? After decompiling both apks with autoapktool and looking in the folders the stock has a lot more folders inside, but don't know where to begin narrowing it down as to where the problem may lie. Thanks in advance...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
what its mms.cyan can change skin?
It appears to be a modded stock mms.apk with the option of a white or black background and with the black background the names on the main conversation screen as well as 'new message' are colored cyan as well as the default contact image is modded, really like the app and wish I could get some help to mod it to work on my phone properly...
Sent from my LG-C800 using xda premium
I'm in about the same boat as you as far as skills go. If we can get dev attention to a ClorkworkMod recovery, then CyanogenMod (which I assume is where your preferred MMS comes from, judging by the name) opens up to us. The MyTouch Q is supposed to get an OTA update to ICS second quarter of this year, so it can definitely run the latest stuff-- even when bloated down with T-Mo apps and CarrierIQ. It's really a neat slider.
Yeah, after tweaking the phone some its pretty quick and love the fact its a slider... keep checking into the post hoping they will figure out cwm for the c800 but no such luck so far.
And judging from the original post where I found the mms_cyan, the OP has a lot of posts for HTC so thinking it was from one of those roms... but having no luck so far figuring out where to start so I can mod it to work fully on my phone.... not that I have any programming knowledge anyhow but... lol

Ok, so since I've been unable to figure this out on my own... I would gladly donate to whoever can figure this out so that I can have the Mms.apk that I want.

Almost hate to bump such an old post of mine, however still have been unable to figure out how to modify my prefered mms.apk to work as the stock mms does. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tried the alternative messaging programs out there and none are what i'm looking for...
