Seidio Case Review for Skyrocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have been using Seidio cases for multiple generations of phones now going way back to the original Blackberry Pearl. I have given a few other styles a shot at times but I keep finding myself coming back to the Seidio cases. They have always held up well and the fact that they have a combination holster that works specifically with their cases was a bonus.
I have to backtrack a little before I get into this review. Had it not been for a miniscule moment of innapropriate anger, I would not have a new phone in my possession. Had it not been for the Seidio case on that phone, I would not have been able to get into it for all my needed information. So, in a matter of seconds I had taken a full pitching arm swing with phone in hand and aimed at garage floor. In all fairness, I had worn that Atrix out to the point where it was on its last leg(maybe subconsciously I was yearning for a new phone). Anyway, I digress, the phone ended up with its screen shattered and the shell slightly bent(I hit the concrete directly on the corner). To the credit of the case, it never came off and the phone stayed on the whole time without rebooting. I put a piece of packing tape over the screen, so as not to get cut by the shards of glass poking out, and I was able to swipe up, down, left and right. However ugly the situation, if that case wasnt on there, the phone wouldnt have been accessible. Now some might argue that having another brands case that rhymes with "hotter fox" might have saved it completely, I find it incredibly uncomfortable to use a phone that becomes 3 times its size because of a case. Nuff said.
I ended up replacing the Atrix with a new Skyrocket. This phone is downright awesome and puts the Atrix to shame in every department. However, we arent here for a phone review, so lets get on with it. I knew I wanted a case on the phone immediately so I picked up one of those slick rubberized cases(skin?) that stretches over the back of the phone and around the sides. This was a decent option but I am part of the 1% out there who wears their phone on their hip at work, I hate putting my phone in the pocket(unless Im wearing jeans). So, I needed a case that had a holster and thats where Seidio came in.
I looked through Seidios options and saw they had two types of cases for the phone and holsters that matched. Since this phone was pretty big, I wanted to stay with the slimmer type case that I had been used to in the past which was the "Surface" style. They also have an "Active" style which is apparently much more protective like the previously mentioned brand but more attractive. With this case I ordered it as a combo with the holster. One of my main concerns was how this phone would look on the hip, in a case, being how large it is in the first place. In retrospect, choosing a black case would have made the most sense for that argument. However, I chose the blue case because, well, I like blue, and I got the phone in white, so I figured I would nickname my phone the "Smurf".
A week or so later I received the package with the case and the holster. First thing I noticed was how absolutely cool the blue finish was on the case. It has almost a metallic hue to it yet is fully plastic. The feel of the case is as it has been in the past; not too grippy but not too slippery. It has a nice texture to it that lends itself to being able slide in and out of a pocket without pulling out lint but also not feeling like it will slide out of your hand when holding it.
I put the phone into the case and the pieces snapped together with authority. Take note, the first time you need to disconnect the two pieces will be a struggle. After that however, it will be an easy task. Just seems that the pieces need to get broken in for a bit before they come apart with ease. As I was holding the phone with the case on it, I noticed that it didnt feel that much bigger with it on. The case is really tight fitting and seems to just barely come off the "Surface" of the phone. There is enough protection above the front bezel though that you can place the phone face down and it wont touch the screen. The only thing that I wasnt too keen on was how deep the cut was to reach the power button. It seems to be at such an angle that you have to get your fingertip in there to press it right. Maybe over time that will change but at first it was an odd behavior.
Next up was wearing the phone to work on the holster. How did it go? Awesome! There is no denying that when you have a phone of this size on your hip, it does get noticed. There is no getting around the fact that nowadays, nobody wants a phone the size of the old V60, and because of that, you are hauling around a nice sized piece of web viewing real estate. I have to say though, I got tons of compliments on the case color. Everyone who saw it said they had never seen a color like that before, or as they held it in their hand, a case that looked so cool. The phone was light to begin with and the case did nothing to hurt that. The holster is very grippy but seems to disappear from the hip when the phone is in it. The weight distribution keeps the phone very close to the body and feels like its just there coming along for the ride. The holster is very sturdy and the phone clicks into it with a loud informative SNAP.
After about a week of wearing the phone daily to work in the holster and a few instances of slipping it into my jeans, I wholeheartedly recommend Seido cases yet again. After saving my old phone the way it did and the new materials they seem to be using, Seidio has a hit on their hands. With how well their manufacturing is and perfectly fit around the phone these cases are, theres really no reason to look anywhere else for something to protect your phone. Oh, and since my original rant, I have had no problems using the power key anymore.
And now the pics:

Thanks for the helpful review. I enjoyed the back story as well.
I think if I do end up purchasing this phone, the Seidio case is the first I'll try.

Thanks for the review, man!

I can second a recommendation for this case.
To be honest I just found I enjoyed my phone a bit more without a case on it, admittedly having to be a bit more careful with it.
If I had any complaint about the case it would be that where the two pieces connect. I can see where that was going to potentially be an annoyance down the road.

I have one and it's to slick for me. I run my phone nekkid now. The case cured me of wanting a case.
my .02 worth.

I got one today and it seems pretty nice so far. As mentioned, it can be hard to get it apart (off the phone) to begin with until you can figure a method that works best. I already have a Seidio Active case and I like it alot, but it is a bit bulkier than the Surface case. I think I will like this one because it works in my phone side carry case that I use at work. The Active was to bulky to use so I had to change over to my Diztronics case during the week. With this case, I think I'll be able to use it in the side carry case as well as in the holster that I bought with it. Just for some information, it seems that the Active holster works as well as the Surface holster for carrying purposes while the Surface case is on the phone. The phone seems to fit into both of them just the same so you might want to save some money if you already have an Active holster.

Why in the heck is there no kickstand??
I LOVE this case and my friends are always bragging about theirs having an awesome kickstand so they can watch movies on their puny S2 screens... Can anyone explain why the big, bueatiful SkyRocket cant stand up like a rocket? A rocket needs a stand to fly!!! Come on guys! Show me how stupid I am and where to get a kickstand case

Indeed it does. Ive been using it since i got my SR in February. I love it. Very sturdy and protective without adding much bulk.
Sent from low Earth orbit with my Skyrocket.

I had this case but, returned it. The bottom part was a tad loose and would shift a bit in my hand. Not much but, enough to notice each time and make me give a grunt of displeasure. Also, the headphone jack area was just not large enough for a couple of my connections( I aux jack into home stereo and car stereo). Finally, the openings around the rocker switches just felt wierd to me. Low on the backside and high on the front side. A friend of mine has an Elago case for his Note. But, that they don't make one for the Skyrocket. That is the style I am looking for. I'm picky I admit. I would rather go naked than uncomfortable.

This looks great. I wanted something slimmer than my Seidio Active case.
Thanks!

Looks good, gonna switch it up.

Just fyi, if you have a Best Buy near you, Seidio sells under the brand name Platinum Cases and it's actually $10-15 cheaper for the combo set with the holster.
I've used seidio for a while too now and when I was searching for a case I found this out and saved myself a good amount of cash since I also didn't have to pay for delivery... Same construction, no problems. Although I think the only color they have is black... I did notice the bottom is a tiny bit loose but I ended up buying a ghost armor screen protector and since I was there ended up getting the full body so now the case fits like a glove.
Hyper, with ya on the 1% that like to carry phone in the holster...lol I even wear it with jeans altho shirts always cover it...lol

Quick Review of T-Mobile Gel Protector Case

I got my T-Mobile Gel Protector Case in the mail today for my G2.
I bought it from Daydeal. I guess I can't post a link here cause I'm "new" so here is the exact name info from the site:
OEM T-Mobile Gel Protector Case for T-Mobile G2, Black
Brand/model: T-Mobile SUPA35547
The material is very high quality and feels great in my hand(s).
It fits PERFECTLY on to the phone and does not pull off or slip at all.
It overs the power button/sleep button but has a slight indent/bumper for it which works perfect. It has not affected the functionality of the device whatsoever. This same "bumper" style button covers the volume rocker and camera buttons as well. Functionality is seamless.
The slight added thickness to the back of the phone makes typing on the slide out keyboard even more comfortable. It also makes the keyboard easier to flip back. The finish is not overly grippy but is not slippery.
If you rely on the trackpad some of the edges of the case may get in the way. I personally never use it, so I won't even notice the slight interference.
Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.
If you have any questions let me know and I will get back to you.
Thanks!
Pictures would be nice.
I agree, this gel case is amazing, I bought it last night from my local retail store.
Best investment byfar for this phone.

I just want to add that this gel case clips on to the phone. It is textured so there's added grip.
Definitely a problem if you use the track pad (who would?? )
In comparison to OEM Blackberry cases, this is more thick, stronger and clips in. The Blackberry gel cases just kinda wrapped around and was flimsy.
Definitely worth it, but adds bulkiness to your phone. Everyone that checks out my phone--that's their first comment.
I like the feel of the gel case, but it is more difficult to remove from my pants pockets when compared to the Body Glove or OEM plastic cases.
I bought this from t-mobile but I may return it for a regular pouch... the bulkiness doesn't bother me... and I love the snug fit of it... however... with BatteryLife installed, it reports the temperature of my batt as above 100 degrees most of the time where as i teeter between 70 and 90 degrees with it off... I'm thinking this might be burning my battery more than I want it to but idk... anyone else experience the heat?
No heat increases for me so far. If so, I really don't notice it. I can get through a whole day of browsing, games, music, and downloading with WiFi enabled and still have 40% left at the end of the day.
I have been using this case since G2 purchase(9/24, I have friends on the inside). LOVE IT. Great grip.
I already dropped my phone (fell off my lap when getting out of the car) and it saved my ass. Just a tad bulky, but well worth the safety. Doesn't interfere with any operation cept for pressing the "P" on on-screen Swype keyboard. (I have fat fingers).
There is almost no need for a screen protector with this case if you are fairly careful when handling expensive gadgets. Unless you put it in a pocket with keys, or drop it in a gravel pit, the screen is very well protected. (I still use one though)
This protector is well worth it if you like saving your device from damage

I like the track pad - provides precise navigation. Thanks for the info - I'll pass on the gel case.

yeah figured out Tango kept running in the background and heating it up.. once i uninstalled that, everything is back to normal. Definitely keeping this case.
I also have this case and it does feel great in the hands, it isn't too bulky as well as protects the phone everywhere...HOWEVER....
I have a question for I noticed a potential flaw or it could possibly be the device.
My hinge wasn't loose or anything like that known hardware flaw. Pretty solid device out of the box and the screen was flush to the keyboard. I got this case from a retail store the 2nd day I had my G2. Used it for 24 hrs and the following day, I took it off to show someone how nice the phone looked without it (I didn't have any issues or struggled removing the case btw). I noticed that the screen wasn't so flush to the keyboard and seemed raised a bit. Also, when I pressed home or search (or any area near the bottom left/right of screen) it seemed to be a tad loose, where it would tap the keyboard. Place the case back on, back to a solid device that doesn't repeat what I noticed with it off.
I also tested 3 different G2s to see if their screen did that and it didn't. They weren't using any type of case/protection....
I did call T-mobile and already ordered another G2 through my buyer's remorse. I'm not so sure if I want to continue using the case "IF" it is raising the screen from its out of the box, snug fit with the bottom of the device. If any of you could try to remove the case, and see if what happened with mine happens to yours. If not, I can call it as a defective device and continue to use the case. As of now, as much as I like it and NEED to protect my phone, I am also considering returning this as well.
Please share your findings, I'm very interested in this potential issue.
Effect on hinge
I noticed this too. The snaps that connect between the front and back pieces of the phone cause a tiny separation. With the case on the hinge is much looser. I removed the front part of the case and it does snap tight again. It also feels much better overall. If you do use the gel case, I recommend not attaching or removing the front. You'll still get the nice grip on the back and the most tightness of the device without it.
On mine, the gel case clips are so thin that they don't interfere with the hinge operation. I actually was reading this post at T-Mobile, talking with my buddy who works there about it. He pulled out a fresh G2 from a box and compared it with mine and there was no difference whatsoever. The fresh out of the box had a small gap already because of the "bumper pads" installed on the corners.
Maybe you guys that are experiencing troubles could take an emery board(fingernail file) and file the down the thickness of the clips. Take the case off and use the file to shave off as much as you need.
Good luck!
I had read about separation on gel cases for other slider type phones, which is one reason I didn't spring for the t-mo gel case. Can anyone else confirm? Maybe take some edge-on shots of the phone with and without the gel-case on to compare the width of the gap between the two halves.

Mine fits perfecft as well. Biggest complaint being the interference with the track ball/pad. Just a matter of getting used to it is all.

TPU Case from Amazon Review

Picked up a TPU case from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054HA45A
It's pretty much the bomb if you are looking for a TPU case. Cutouts for surround sound mic holes on back and all of the cutouts line up near perfect.
It fits the phone perfectly. I recommend. It's only 8 bucks and they have a few different colors. I got the gloss black. Free shipping if you are a prime member like me.
Sorry, there is dust all over my phone in these pics. It's not sparkly. The case is super rigid TPU. It's not the dust/lint attracting silicon BS you get at T Mobile. I was in a dusty environment when taking the pics.

As I stated in the cases thread, I also own this very nice case.
I also mentioned the downsides it has for me so far, which are the pretty hard to use volume rocker and hard to reach power button. Volume rocker might be due to the way I used to press it on my DHD, there seems to be a position when it actually works pretty easy. But the power button will always be a pain.
Yet, it's actually a failure of HTC, the power button on the side is the only thing I like about the SGS2 which I would LOVE to see on a future HTC phone.

I didn't see your post. I am having no issues with the volume rocker, but I really don't use it much I guess. I never listen to music on my phone.
I would love for this phone to have the power button on the side. All of these Android phone manufacturers should follow Samsung's lead and put them on the side. Everyone is putting them at the top these days! It's pretty awkward pushing a button on the top to lock it every time you put it down.
Loving this case!

Its funny you all complain about the Volume on the top. I remember when the Galaxy first came out there was A LOT of complaints about the power button being on the side. I dont mind the where the power button is on my Galaxy or Sensation... Shrugs.
I do have a question tho. The 2 holes on either side of the camera and the 2 holes near the bottom, what are they for? The TPU case i bought from Amzer (SP?) dont have those holes free. I wonder if they will cause a problem.
Google told the holes are for the antenna connectors.. So it shouldn't be a problem when it's covered.

I do.... Ha!
Thanks for the review! It looks pretty good in the pics.
Hard shell is never my thing.. I don't like silicon cases because of the friction and lint accumulation. Just ordered it on Amazon, I will wait and see if I can live with the added thickness.
I've gone naked for the past few days, I've never used any cases with my blackberry or previous HTC phones. I've never tried TPU cases before, I guess it doesn't hurt to try for 8 bucks.

It adds almost no thickness to the phone. My brother asked me why I didn't have a case when he was playing with it today.
Someone gave this a one star review on Amazon because the volume rocker is harder to press. It's not that hard. Plus you could easily get an exacto knife and cut it out yourself. You will like this case dude.

Yeah, you won't regret it
You won't notice the extra thickness in width, maybe in height, but it doesn't really matter there.
I picked one up before getting the phone. Fits nicely, you can barely notice the thickness. I just wish they had clear one instead of the smoked one that I've got.
Hi!
For people who can't order on Amazon.com (I'm in Belgium and I can't order this item via Amazon), it's also available on eBay. Object numbers are : 260799343153, 260799345693, 250834600173 (inexpensive delivery).

Just got it and put it on this morning.
Gotta say I love the fit and finish. Everything fits perfectly without being too tight or lose. It definitely does a great job of preventing scratches or bumps. Now I could toss and slide the phone all I want without worrying scratching the back. The case also doesn't pick up too much pocket lint like silicon cases, while adding friction while holding the phone and minimize incidental drops.
Minor negative is that the power button and volume rocker is noticeably harder to control/press than before without using the case. The added thickness does not subtract from the user experience, but it does add ever so slightly to the bulk.
Then again, which case doesn't have those cons? For 8 bucks, it is a great case. I'll keep using it for now till I find myself using the volume rocker more frequently, which I do use quite often for music and in-call volume adjustments.
If only it wasn't so shiny
I purchased this case as well, it is absolutely fantastic. It fits so perfectly, and I can't believe the price. I was worried I wouldn't like the shine, and that it would be loose, but I've gotten used to it, and it fits tight to the phone. Definitely one of the best cases I have ever owned for any device.
I got mine off Amazon, from TPU Case. Very nice black, I can't complain. I always get TPU cases for my phones but I never got black. They sell the exact same ones on eBay for $8.95 except the shipping is free.
I used the camera on my camcorder, very bad quality but hopefully you can see the holes and what not.
Just got the all black one today, I must say it is a perfect fit, never had a case that fitted this well. No bulk at all, feels just as slim.
I purchased this on Amazon last week. Note it was $7.98 and now it's $8.90. Crazy the price went up, haha!
Here's my review:
I've never used a product before made out of "Durable Flexible TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane)" but it seems to do the job quite well. It's an extremely hard durable plastic with just a tiny bit of flex so you can get the case on the phone. (A word of warning: you won't be taking this case off too often because it's really difficult to do so! Once it's on, it's meant to stay!)
As for protecting the phone, it seems like it will do the job. It's sealed *extremely* tight, so hopefully it won't let dust/lint in there like those cheap rubber cases do.
It looks great too, since it's a shiny/glossy black color. That means it's also easy to slip in and out of a pocket, unlike the cheap rubber cases that will stick to the inside of your pocket.
The only bad thing I can see is that it gets kind of greasy easily, even if you wash your hands often. And over time, scratches might show easily as well. (I'll update the review if the case gets scratched or something in the future, but so far so good.)
Overall though, for the price (which was actually a tiny bit lower last week when I bought it) I am extremely satisfied with this case. I want maximum protection and Otterbox is currently refusing to put out a case for the Sensation (not to mention their cases are expensive too). So in the mean time, this TPU case seems to be handling the job quite well. Hopefully my phone remains in perfect condition for the next year so I can resell it easily.
I would highly recommend this case to other Sensation owners, especially for the price, and even more so if you are an Amazon Prime member for the free shipping. It is a pretty great product and I would certainly consider purchasing their cases for my future phone(s).

not a fan of that color, but the design is really nice, i wonder how durable the case & stand are
Yes, I don't like the color but pretty cool design. I wish they had the same in black
The kickstand thread had the link to an ebay seller which had this and two other colors, neon friggin green and some other out there color lol. No basic black at all from the ebay seller anyways. The seller sold it for like 30usd IIRC. Too expensive for one of these types of cases IMO but for 12 bux I may get one. lol
EDIT: Got the green one and also a 'white' cover. Pretty cheap too! Will post pics and also mini first impressions when received. Most likely within a week or two.
thanks you OP. FINALLY something to contemplate. much appreciated.

Nillkin kickstand case
Just got this in today and slapped it on and took a few pics. The case is like the barely there cases with a slide out kickstand built in. The build is good for 10 bux and the green is ok. It's almost android green so it works for me LOL....
Putting on the case was like putting on the barely there case. Taking it off is the same. Now using the kickstand....well....it's a hit or miss. You can't really use it in portrait, and I am not sure it's supposed to be used that way. That's because the bottom is exposed so the curve of the phone makes it rock back and forth slightly. Now the beauty of this is the portrait mode. This works the best and most stable.
As for flipping the kickstand out, you just take the bottom part and pull straight out. And that's the easy peasy part. Just pull until you past the notch to 'lock' it in place. However, for me, to put away and fold up the kickstand is a bit of a pain. There should be some sort of press release to push the tab that initially locked the kickstand down so that the stand can fold back easy. I just press the track down and push the kickstand to fold. It's scary to do but is the best way I found to fold.
Edit: also note that this case came with a screen protector as well, but I have the HTC one on so now I have a spare if needed.
UPDATE 8/25/11: One thing I found on the Nillken case is that if you use your OEM charger which is pretty bubbly at the connection to the phone; the cable does not seat very well. However, I am using craigsdocks.com's dock and that aftermarket charger cable has no 'bubble' at the end so that seats into the case rather easily with a little filing down at the opening. Just a fyi for all who are looking at this case.
Anyway, here are the pics...

That case actually looks really nice. I'm unexpectedly a fan of the green. Might have to shell out a few bucks to get one of these (even though I just ordered the Case-Mate Tough Case).
Great pictures, kpjimmy!
That's a nice case, I like it. I thought that the green was going to be much brighter but it's a really nice color actually, I might order one just to have one around
Thanks for the review and the pictures, man.
My wife has a case just like this for her myTouch 4G except it's clear. Fits really snug to her phone and I like how it hardly adds much bulk at all.
She actually got hers directly from the tmobile store though.
--- Correction... it's actually the myTouch 4G Body Glove Protector. Looks the same though even down to the kick stand. It just has rubber sides for gripping. Take a look for yourself. http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns...4253-85e0-1bf1e4506a5e&inCart=True&catCode=-1
You notice they hardly released any cases for the sensation.

Wow, that green does look pretty good, haha.
Here's an update: The 'correct' way to unfold the kickstand as per nillkin's site. This didn't come in with the instructions so I am glad I did it right! lol

8/26/11 Update
Just to let you all know that the plug cut outs are a bit off. The volume rocker I do not care too much with, but the rocker is close to the case and not centered. But that could be just so you wouldn't accidentally hit it.
However the plug port is in fact a nuisance. I had to take out an sharp knife (exacto knife is preferred) with a small slim blade and slice away at it like cheese lol. Then filed/sanded the area a bit to smooth it out and now all my usb cords plug in fine oem or not.
Off topic a bit
Along with the kickstand case, I also got a tpu like case. Here it is listed in the market if anyone wants it for cheap.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17011817#post17011817
I purchased one of these but doubt I'll get any more.
Inside the package is a diagram of how to open the kick stand and still it was hard to pull out. Then putting it back I accidentally put a crease in the stand. It's just too hard to move in and out without damaging it. I also don't like that the case does not cover the top or bottom at all. If it had a squared off bottom it could be used for portrait mode. But the way it has nothing on the bottom, the slightest touch causes it to tip when in portrait mode. I don't even know why they show the device in portrait in their advertisements.
It's a very nice concept, but it still needs a little work to be really good.
Also, they include a lent free cloth in the package, in addition to that screen protector .
They do give you a lot for the price though.
I think it would be perfect if they used their TPU case for the body covering. (With a flat bottom for portrait.) And a kick stand that was also TPU or didn't snap so rigidly into place. So it would be a little easier to open and close the kick stand.
As for the colors, I got a golden one. It actually looks like a blend of brown and gold. The case is not as BRIGHT as the pictures. They are not as obnoxious in the actual color when you actually have one. The advertising seems to put a bright spot light on them, to make them appear brighter than they actually are.

I tend to agree with you on this. As for the track, I have to litterally take the case off and retract the stand. Otherwise you would likely break something lol.
For the price, not too shabby. Build quality the case 4 stars, kickstand concept 4 stars, however, using it is way to difficult= 2 stars. Overall rating for me is a good 3 stars.

I just got mine and to correct the problem with the retraction while the phone is inserted, I pulled the kickstand back a little more (not much) to shave the angle piece down a little (the ridge portion) into more of a triangular shape. Now it retracts while the phone is inserted on still locks into place when pulled out.

Nice fitting belt-holster?

Anybody have a suggestion for a nice-fitting leather belt holster for the N4? I want to avoid buying something on Amazon that is either too large or too small.
See my earlier post on a case that I bought from Amazon. I'm very happy with it.

2 questions if you don't mind---reviews indicated that the clip fails easily and that the case is bulky, can you comment on either of those?
I've only had it for a week so I can't say anything about its durability; seems solid enough initially, and I don't see any indication of incipient failure so far. (Besides, for $5, if it falls apart after six months, I figure I will have gotten my money's worth! )
As for the size, it's no bigger -- in relation to the phone -- than any other case of its type. I.e., it's about 1 cm longer than the phone and maybe 3 mm wider. It is, of course, a good deal thicker than the phone, since you have three layers of case -- back, front, and flap, each of which adds a couple of mm; maybe that's what that reviewer was referring to? Anyhow, I certainly don't find it to be unreasonably bulky, and I don't see how it could be much smaller and still fit and protect the phone.

This is what I got. I had something like this for an iPhone for 3 years and it still has a lot of life left in it. I think it should fit the phone even with a slim Rearth Ringke case.
I too must use a holster type case, I don't like carrying the phone in my pocket.

That holster is great for about 6 months, but then it starts to break down. Its a generic holster that has been sold forever. I used it with my Galaxy Nexus for months and with my previous phone for about a year before that. The elastic tore away from the leather on one side after 6ish months which I sewed back together terribly and the leather began to peal a little bit around the edges.
That said, I have never had a holster do much better than this. 6 months seems to be the limit for me before it starts really going downhill. This holster was great during its functional life. And its certainly cheap enough to just buy 2 a year.
Edit: Oh yea, the most annoying thing by FAR about this holster is that the magnets come loose in the flap, which at first just means 1 magnet sticks and its very loosely kept closed, but then after that other magnet slips there is nothing to really keep it closed before you shove a pin or knife through the leather to force the magnets back into proper position.
I know I sound harsh on this holster, but its not awful. Reading about it I just ordered another one from Hong Kong for $2.88. Will be here sometime next year probably.
Seidio needs to come out with a spring-loaded holster. I have one for my Evo 3d (waiting on Nexus 4 shipment...) and it's been great. Easily one of the best investments I made for my phone - including the extended battery beast and case.

Got both the holster and the slim Rearth case. I like them both very much.
The Rearth is really slim and it seems very well made (made in Korea, not China, for a change). Not sure it adds any impact protection but that's fine, it will at least protect the back from scratches.
The holster seems decent too, well made, and it fits the phone well even with the slim Rearth case on the phone.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the combo. How's this for a mini-review?

If anybody else is interested in this, I received the holster and I'd give it an "okay" rating. As the Amazon reviews warned it is a bit too big. I could probably fit two N4s in there side by side. I am looking in to a Ringke case as well so maybe by the time I add that on there won't be so much space inside. I may try the holster sirxdroid recommended.

Still happy with mine. It's a bit tight with the Ringke case, but not bad at all and it seems to "give" some so it will get better with use.

Hmm, I'm wondering if you got the same case I did; sometimes these generics have multiple suppliers and different lots can be variable. I definitely couldn't fit two N4s into my holster -- it's not a tight squeeze (I don't have to push the phone in), but the N4 is certainly not rattling around in it. Here's a photo of what my phone looks like inside the case. I think it's just about right for ease of access while not being overly roomy.

Yeah I think mine is different than that, the stitching doesn't look the same and my phone isn't in there nearly as snug.
As a side note I also bought the holster recommended by sirxdroid. I like it much better, the fit is perfect.
However....
It has the most unfortunate side-effect of either unexpectedly rebooting or shutting down my phone. I don't know what causes this, if the buttons are somehow getting mashed just right or if maybe the magnet has an effect on the phone. So sadly this case is unusable and I'm now back to Big Bertha.

That is strange, the case is not rebooting my N4, though the phone itself does reboot once in a while for me too but I suspect it's related to bluetooth use and it has nothing to do with the case. Not sure whether you use bluetooth or not, it may be worth keeping it completely off for a while and see if the phone still reboots.
I also have the Rearth case on my phone which makes the buttons a bit harder to press, so maybe that helps the holster not press on the phone buttons inadvertently.
this looks intersting

Hello,
I didn't see this case mentioned and considering the LOW supply of actual quality cases I decided to start this thread in case I wasn't the only one who didn't know about it lol. Looking through the pics what I like the most is that it allows you to touch/use the actual buttons and the center dimple and camera have their own circle rather than an oval like in other cases (hate that oval design). I just ordered mine today and will post pics once it arrives but in the meantime check out the link below. I got it for $16 shipped from amazon.

2014-12-15 updated with review:
I didnt even use the case for more than a day and went back to the tudia case. I really wanted to love the SATIN case but the edges make the case feel cheap. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the back of the case for the brushed aluminum pattern on it and the dual circles, but the cheap feel is a deal breaker. The sharp edges that they put in place for grip really just make it feel cheap in the hand. Also the risk of the honeycomb actually damaging the back cover of the phone is a concern for prolonged use. After a day there was a honeycomb pattern on the back cover but with a damp towel it came off. I might use it on occasion, but by no means will it be my 24/7 case.
pros:
-Love the dual circle opening for camera and M logo rather than oval
-brushed aluminum pattern on back of cover looks great
-has openings to touch actual power and volume buttons
-sharp edges on sides for grip
cons
-adds SLIGHT bulk to the phone compared to a thin case like the tudia
-the sharp edges for grip make it feel cheap (maybe if it was made of something other than TPU it would be ok)
-openings for power and volume button SLIGHTLY restrict access to buttons (smaller fingers wont have this issue) and compared to the extra firmness of the tudia cases sealed buttons, I say both cases are comparable for ease of button pressing
-honey comb pattern inside the case CAN POTENTIALLY damage the phones back cover

Added the link to the OP just now. I didn't even receive the shipped notice yet but it said I think monday-thurs of next week it should arrive. Hoping it actually comes friday or saturday though.
I purchased this case from eBAy a couple of months ago. I like it, I switch between this case and the Hula bumper.
Thanks for the pics but you said a few months ago? Lol man I have been checking for new cases a few times since I got the phone and never saw this case. Think the biggest problem is perhaps finding cases due to the official name being the same as last years.
Think motorola needs to make an official name sequence or something like htc did with the HTC one m7 and m8. I think making the model year part of the name would be cool; like cars and most other things with wheels.

Yeah I was searching on eBay for cases and came across the listing. I was nervous that it was going to be for the 2013 model but the description said 2nd generation so I gave it a try. It's really hard to find cases for the phone, one thing I look at in the pics are to see which wallpaper they show in the phone. Sometimes that helps to distinguish the different models. Try searching with 2014 and/or 2nd generation in your searches.
Motorola definitely should update the naming convention on these phones.
The funny part is that some case makers are too lazy to update their wallpaper image. My tudia case arrived with a cardboard of the gen1 wallpaper and initially thought they sent the wrong one until I opened it. Also body glove on the moto x shows the gen 1 for the moto x but only has a case for the gen2 which is funny and maybe why I didn't notice this one sooner since I literally went on their site a few weeks ago.
Yeah the naming needs to be easier to tell which model year. Oh well. Love the phone lol
It doesn't look too shabby but historically, body glove's cases haven't been the best quality. Will wait to hear impressions before I decide if I want to order it or not.
Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk
Well it came in earlier than expected (woo hoo!) and I updated the OP to include some pics.
I like the look of the case, it seems to add some bulk compared to the Tudia case I have though. It seems and feels thicker I think due to the flatter lines (back is still curved) but both cases on the table visually cant be more than 0.5mm difference. I have mixed feelings about it, I wish the case was thinner honestly but I do like it. Really need to use it a day or two so I can form an opinion on it. There are "sharp" edges which really help the phone feel secure in the hand. The shock factor would be no greater than any other TPU case. Overall fit of it against the moto x is solid though. The power and volume buttons are I would say for a normal adult moderate/easy to press due to the size of the openings. The Tudia requires extra force to overcome the case materials flex and the body glove one your physically pressing the button but the opening can be a bit of a restriction for some (and I dont have sausage fingers either lol).
I would say the one flaw I saw is the molding is a bit off on one of the mics which is seen in one pic. The hole is technically in the right spot and honestly its probably fine but its like there is some molding that needs to be cut a bit which I will do to my sample.
Overall Im looking forward to using this case for the next few days and see how it goes. Cosmetics wise I think it beats the Tudia hands down, lets see how it goes functionally.
of what material is the honeycomb pattern inside made. I ask because of a picture posted by one Amazon reviewer.
I don't have a leather back, but do you think it would be pressing too hard on a soft touch back. ?
Wow thats bad but with leather I could have seen that coming. Yesterday I saw a honeycomb on my soft touch back but looked like some oils from the case since it wiped off. After a full day today I will update.
Worst case it will give me a good excuse to mod my back. I have been googling carbon fiber material to make my own back but havent had the courage to do it just yet lol

Ok so after a day of use with the base soft touch moto x I could see a pattern on the back cover but when wiped with a towel it came right off. It didnt feel like it made an impression but the honeycomb was visible until I wiped it with a damp towel.

Also the risk of the honeycomb actually damaging the back cover is the deal breaker from being my go to case. I might use it on occasion, but by no means will it be my 24/7 case.
pros:
-Love the dual circle opening for camera and M logo rather than oval
-brushed aluminum pattern on back of cover
-openings to touch actual power and volume buttons
-sharp edges on sides for grip
cons
-adds SLIGHT bulk to the phone compared to a thin case like the tudia
-the sharp edges for grip make it feel cheap (maybe if it was made of something other than TPU it would be ok)
-openings for power and volume button SLIGHTLY restrict access to buttons (smaller fingers wont have this issue) and compared to the extra firmness of the tudia cases sealed buttons, I say both cases are comparable for ease of button pressing
-honey comb pattern inside the case CAN POTENTIALLY damage the phones back cover
