My mom just got an Atrix 2 and needs to have it carrier unlocked as she will be traveling overseas and uses prepaid sim cards. Does anyone know of a website that they know will unlock an Atrix 2 100% sure? Or if there an unlock exploit for this device like there is on the Sensation? Thanks!

I just called att customer service and gave them my imei number and got it for free....took 5 minutes and its now unlocked

You need to put a NON ATT similar card in it and when you power it on it'll request the code be typed in.

From what I've heard you have to enter an unknown sim (aka. any non AT&T sim card). I believe the will be some sort of dialogue that will appear when you power on the phone asking for the code.

Yup. Or you can also punch in #073887* in the dialer to get the same screen..

How much have you searched xda for this particular thing? For ME or MB865? There's several how-to's online for this.

No, those type of things are not allowed on XDA.
The ONLY way to unlock this phone is to call AT&T, or to buy an unlock code, period!
AT&T now has the policy unlocking it for free. But I think the procedure is little bit of complex. Just take a try.

Wait 6 months from when you bought the phone, call att and ask to talk to supervisors a few times, say you're going out of the country and hey should give you one assuming you've been with them for a while and are in good standard payment wise

Get the code from here http://cellunlocker.net
Once you pay for that code pop in your tmo sim and turn the phone on. Enter the unlock code and you're good to go. Then flash a tmo radio from the t989 section. And I think you need to enter a T-Mobile apn. Not sure.

Rooting won't do anything. You have to pay. Use the link I posted on the last page.

there is a cheaper option which is unlocking by cable as also mentioned before.

I started rooting it but when I tried to take backup using ClockWorkMod Recoverry, I'm getting an error:
Can't mount /sdcard
I don't have a SD card. Can't I root if I don't have one?
Can I simply get out of it and it won't cause any damange to the phone?

1. Yes, with or without ota.
2. Pretty easy, there's a 1 click tool available. Unlocking the bootloader should work with that tool but occasionally doesn't, but that can be remedied with ez unlock.
