Does anyone know when custom roms will come to 2nd gen devices?
There are custom ROM's for second gen HTC's on the way if DFT can get a few things worked out, and if things keep going well there will be custom ROM's for Nokia Lumi 710's and some 800's.
More specifically:
Unlocking the SPL for gen2 HTC phones is underway, but hacks like that take time and some luck, so there's really no way to know in advance when it will happen. Once it does, though, custom ROMs should be easy to make (lots of experience with HTC).
Technically, custom ROMs for the first Lumias are already available. They're just very simple right now (inter-unlock and not much else, although somebody claims they have a full-unlock one now).

I'm a noob to this so if I come off sounding ignorant please forgive. It looks as though the G Tab may be coming to an end of life from Viewsonic. I'm looking to purchase one and am wondering something. It looks like the custom ROMs all come from people changing ROMs from other devices that use the Tegra-2 chipset. Is that the most common factor? I mean, there are a TON of new tablets coming that use the Tegra-2. Would it be possible that some of these new devices will have their ROMs ported to the G-Tab? I know we will not "know" until these new devices arrive, but can someone with more experience making custom ROMs than me chime in on it?
thanks.
I was hoping to find out why there is only one custom ROM (that I know of) that works for the D2G, that one being Fission, I understand that the D2G is new, but shouldn't it be similar to the Droid 2 (and theres quite a few ROMs for it) except for the dual radio bands (GSM/CDMA). I heard something about devs having a hard time with the D2G's main kernel...is this the only problem or one of the problems ? I'm Really interested in learning a lot more about custom ROMs for android phones, specifically the D2G (since thats the phone I have right now) and maybe even attempt to make my own (I know a lil bout linux and I'm decent with programming), but I'm having a hard time finding any guides or material talking about the process of making them for the D2G.
I understand there is some proprietary hardware in the Atrix 2. What features of the phone would be unlikely to work in a rom (when the bootloader is cracked)?
Reason I am asking is I recently bought an Infuse 4G in auction, and was disappointed to find Bluetooth would not work in a rom. I am currently looking to sell and get a phone that's robust and CM7/9 modifiable with all features working and not in a SGSII price range.
Thats a hard question to answer since there is no "list" of hardware in each phone. But whenever a ROM is built for any particular phone, the developer will need drivers that will work with the phone and the ROM. Certain phones have drivers that have trouble with certain ROMs...so that means that the developers will have to try work arounds and patches to try and get them to work. As far as the Atrix 2 goes, I don't really know if anyone knows if anything will present any problems since there are no "really" custom ROM's (ie CM7/9, MIUI) available for the phone yet.
Hello.
I've been reading alot in this topic, and i would like to know wether its possible or not for me .
I bought Nokia Lumia 800, and got the newest update. Im really new at W7 phones, since ive always used iPhone. Been JB'ing alot etc, but this is very different and i dont want to brick my lumia.
So my question is; is it possible to follow the guide, and install this rom on my Lumia 800, with the newest update?
Thanks!

You say "this ROM" but don't mention any ROM... kinda confused. You can install official ROMs on the Lumias, I assume, and you can certainly send update CABs. However, custom ROMs are not yet supported on the Lumia.
Your subject line asks about changing themes. Creatinga custom theme requires at least registry access, and for a full theme it requires filesystem access too. So far, nobody has managed to get either one on the Lumia phones.
On the other hand, they just came out. Give it a little time - they're among the most popular WP7 phones and I'm sure there will be hacks for them soon enough.

Thanks for your reply.
I apologize, i was supposed to link this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271118&page=148
I Moved from a Treo 650 to a Sprint Mogul then switched out for an Android G1 that i upgraded to an iPhone 3GS and then an Atrix 4G and now I have probably my favourite phone to date (excepting the SE T616- legendary!) an HTC Titan.
I am familiar with custom ROMs, unlocking bootloaders and jailbreaking.
Outside of steps to developer unlock legit (woohoo for my edu address!) I have seen very little information on how to get this baby purring.
I am volunteering to write a how-to on the parts I accomplished but I still don't know how to do things like install custom ROMs and get interop-unlock working.
Anyone care to assist?

On second-gen HTC phones, like the Titan, neither custom ROMs nor interop-unlock are currently available. HTC appears to be putting some effort into keeping it that way, too... we're working on it, but nobody has had a breakthrough yet. These things take time, and there aren't that many people really trying to break open the devices. Of those who are, for some of us it's just one of many projects.
