So I have flashed many ics roms and all have worked fine, obviously I am on 3.32 firmware our whatever (most recent) and my question is, is there really any point in keeping a backup of the stock rom?

If something goes wrong somewhere down the line you can always go back to stock but besides that point, no?
Wow, I could have written that exact same question. I still have my stock GB (non t-mobile) backup on the phone. I'm thinking of just copying it off to my PC for archive. IF you ever need to go back to it, you need to reinstall the old kernel, etc. as well.
Last time I moved backups to my computer, for some reason the md5 sum nandroid.md5 completely disappeared, leaving me with no restorable backups...

4EXT will let you force the install without the MD5 Sum. I've done it. It works provided that the file is not corrupted, and that just the MD5 sum itself is lost.

If you have a nandroid backup of the Stock ROM (or any other ROM) the Kernel is included with it.
Now, you'll have to reinstall teh stock firmware, which is NOt included with the nandoird backup.
Ok, I knew that it could force install, just didn't know for sure if it was safe

download this nand backup
download the official update
extract the nand backup and delete the file 'recovery.img'
edit the file nandroid.md5 in wordpad (not notepad) and remove the line with recovery.img in it.
rename the official update to 'update.zip'
place the directory '2010-09-26.13.31.55' in the directory /nandroid/ht##########/ on your sdcard
place update.zip on your sdcard.
reboot phone into recovery and restore nand 2010-09-26.13.31.55
turn of check for signiture and flash update.zip.

1 is your phone rooted? If it is you need to make a nandroid backup first. Then you put this backup in. Also this backup is from an amoled desire so I don't think it will work on slcd desires.

So ste are you saying. I need to make a nandroid backup. Then delete the contents from my backup. And then copy the contents of this folder without the recovery.img and the line removed from the md5 into my backup folder???

Make a backup to create a android directory. Then put the folder you downloaded into the nandroid backup folder. Try and restoring from the backup without deleting anything if that doesnt work try your method.

It worked without removing anything from the posted nandroid. Thanks
I received the MD5 error as well, so I tried the process without removing anything from the Nandroid backup, which worked for me using the Clockwork Mod recovery without a hitch.

No your right it's not that bad I just want a phone that i can relax with. Everyday I am flashing the desire with different roms. I think i might go for iPhone 4 or maybe the Nokia n8.
At this point I've tried every method of flashing, and every version of cwmr. No matter what version or method I use, after about a week, I lose the ability to flash any roms that I havnt already flashed. I also can only restore certain backups due to.an MD5 mismatch. Has anyone else had these issues?

Ok if anyone is still having problems, id like to mention that I exchanged my 5 year old 2g simcard yesterday for a new one, and bought a new 16gb class 4 sandisk sdcard, and EVERYTHING is working great! so far maybe only 2 or 3 occurrences of data loss, easily corrected with a battery pull. And I borked some lib files trying to get the camcorder to work. So I installed the kanged version update-cm-7.1.0-RC0-G2x-KANG-signed.zip overtop of my build to get the rom to boot again, and now the camcorder works! Maybe only about 15fps but works nonetheless...

Can someone upload for me a Nandroid Backup? So I can restore my Sensation 4G ? (Tmobile) ?

I'd be surprised if anyone will upload a backup for you. Nandroid takes a complete image of the device and as such is likely to contain all sorts of personal data.
I read your thread hand will try to help. Am i right to think that so far you have:
s-off?
SuperCID?
3.30 firmware?
Non-booting from but access to bootloader and fastboot?
Can you also reach recovery, and what is your hboot version as of now?

It sounds like you've either got the incorrect firmware, or ROM, or it could be just incorrect check sums.
To save on re-writing everything that's been done thousands of times before, I'm going to provide this link to Android Revolution HD.
It describes how to do everything step by step. If you want to start from a clean base, just boot in to recovery, and wipe everything, switch it to USB mode, load your files on, and start flashing from scratch.
Remember, to make a nandroid every time you flash something new if you're unsure about anything. It's time consuming, but saves you a lot of time in the long run. I found out the hard way.
If you have any more problems, feel free to PM me, and I'll reply usually pretty quickly.

Agreed. SuperCID and s-off means you can run any ruu. If it doesn't run, something is stopping it:
Try the stock European ruu. Remove other software from PC that might sync with phone (HTC sync, double twist etc.) Check AV/firewall is not blocking ruu. Run ruu as administrator on your machine.

Yes, I did.

1. Why 2 threads on the same thing?
2. I assume you have the drivers installed on your PC?
3. Is your phone a TMOUS 4G Sensation?
1/ They're not the same, actually
2/ Yes, I do have the drivers
3/ Yes, TMO 4G Sensation
I assume you're S-OFF with Super CID? If so...
1. Download this RUU:

2. Download the guide attached to this post
3. Follow the guide, it may work for you

GOOD NEWS, I was able to run the Android Revolution HD Rom by downgrading to the 3.12 Firmware. But I still can't run the Virtuous Inquisition Rom (My favorite so far )

simply use the sammobile .tar instead of the k0nane listed in the thread.
Also...fyi: I just did this the other day...if you get lots of "force close" go to "settings"..."privacy"..."factory data rest"
that should get you back to stock...2.3.5
if you want to get back to 2.3.6, you can perform "software update" for OTA from ATT.
I was having lots of connectivity issues with ICS leaks, so I went back to GB too.
Thanks for the quick reply! Giving it a try now

The only issue with using the nandroid backup to go from ICS --> GB would be that the modem is not included in the backup, and therefore would not be restored. I'm not sure the ICS modems will work once the GB nandroid backup is restored.
If anyone can confirm or deny the above, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
If your concern is the bug reported in the ICS leaks then a full restore to GB would be what you want to do.
Use the Sammobile tar.
This thread (as previously pointed out) has the instructions for flashing the tar. You should read it completely.
This post in the thread explains that you have to extract the files from the zip you DL from Sammobile and then flash the file ending in .md5 with Odin. Partial quote:

Using a nandroid BU does not install all of the original files. As pointed out one thing not replaced by the nandroid is the radio. To get back completely to stock using the Sammobile tar and Odin appears to be the best way.

Awesome! Glad to hear that!
So I got the HTC One S on launch day and it's been working fine but now it has an available system update which I'm not sure applies to me as I don't use wifi calling.
My phone is already rooted with the stock rom and I just fixed my CWM recovery installation.
I have had experience with flashing new roms with my old mytouch 3g slide but I want to make sure I get it right on this phone.
I bought a copy of titanium backup pro so I assume I should just use that to backup everything (except recent calls and texts, never figured that out but feel free to suggest an app for that...maybe built in google account?).
If I got it correct, this is what I plan to do:
1. Backup everything
2. Flash stock rom
3. Perform System /update
3. Re-root?
4. Flash LeeDroid
5. Restore apps
Let me know if that's right, or maybe I don't need to re-root? Or maybe root after installing LeeDroid?
You only really want it for the radio update. Roms come with new bases and there's no reason to update the hboot.
Check out the dev section for a way to update the radio while rooted.
However of you want to go the long way, you will have to
Back up
Relock the bootloader
Run the correct ruu
Run the update
Repeat the steps you have taken to unlock and root
Then restore etc...

Just update the radio. Takes a couple of minutes.
No point going through that whole process if you are going back to Leedroid!!
