I purchased an original HTC car charger a few months ago. yesterday I noticed that it wasnt charging my phone anymore. The tree letters "HTC" did light up so it had power. I tried another USB cable and it did charge again, so probably I have a broken wire somewhere.
I bought the original HTC because I heard rumours of phones not being charged while using a lot of resources. It actually did charge but couldnt keep up with the power demand.
Can anyone conform this or can I use any universal USB cable?

So I've got a bunch of these cheap ebay USB chargers. I was using them with my HTC Kaiser but now I have my desire - When the phone is on charge using one of these, the touch screen won't work properly. It goes crazy, registering its own "touches" so menus fly about, etc. and if I try touching it, it either doesn't register it, registers the touch about 10 times or in the wrong place!
As soon as I unplug, back to normal!
The HTC charger says output: DC 5v, 1amp
This charger says output: DC 5v+- 0.20v, DC500mA +- 30mA
Does this mean these chargers arent quite powerful enough or something? Could I be damaging my phone by using these? They do charge ok but seem to take longer than the HTC charger.
I had exactly the same problem with the G1 and after a fair amount of time researching that issue, I read, and was told that the voltage on many 3rd party charger are not as well regulated as on HTC charger's or pc's USB ports.
On my G1 the problem stayed even after unplugging the charger.
You'd be much better off with a genuine HTC charger or just using your pc's USB ports.
I have the same problem with my phone .. the problem still remained after unpluging and using my own charger.
Does it go away in some time? is your phone ok now?
Well, on my Dream, the problem wasn't constant, but it was there very often, it seem to occur less when I was swapping with some spare charged batteries.
On my Dream the trick was to turn the screen on and off, and it would work most of the time...
I suggest you try to charge of your computer, the voltage output is regulated properly and I was told several times that the opposite, i.e. cheap chargers, were messing with capacitance screens.
I have been charging my Desire with the HTC charger and my PC and haven't had any issues yet.
Better safe than sorry, I wouldn't have got an upgrade if my Dream didn't have that problem in the first place, and it quickly becomes a massive pain! Especially when you have no keyboard.
Problem didn't go away, so I sent my phone to the waranty service.
Using the original charger and original usb cable everything was ok, the problem appeared when I used an usb extender with my computer. First, windows didn't recognize my device, and then the touchscreen problem appeared.
I had the same problem with charger and usb extender but the problem doesn't stay when I take it out. I Won't be using it again that's for sure...thanks for the heads up

my guess is , STAY AWAY
I have a JMB branded car charger ([email protected]) with a mini USB connector, but with a Force branded mini USB to micro USB converter. I have no issues whatsoever.
I use a Samsung Micro USB charger and I notice no problems whatsoever, it's like an older version of the charger that comes with the Galaxy S in Europe.
Straight from the plug as it were, it's great, no issues and charges extra fast
So, I'm traveling (for a long period of time) with my TF. One day, it stopped charging.
I took apart the power brick and put it back together, I even tried to freeze it (on advice from some older "not charging" threads), nothing helps.
When I connect the TF to my laptop via USB - it recognizes the TF. When I connect my iPod to the power brick (with its own cable obviously) - it charges just fine. So what broke?!
I hate this, the local stores here don't sell the power brick separately and I don't even know if that's the source of the problem.
This sucks
Sounds like the power pin in the TF port has bent/broken or just has some detritus/dirt/foreign matter in it and is stopping it from charging properly. Have a look, but you might need to check the port with lots of light and a magnifying glass, so not easy while you're on the move.
If you are in the US Office Depot sells the charger and USB cable for $30.
strange thing is that sometime my transformer doesn't charge.
i have to reboot and it start to charge again.
Same happened here. Asus tech wanted me to wipe the device. After trying other options to get it to charge, I did but it didn't wipe... Go figure... But it booted up normally and now it has been charging.

Apparently charging has some history of issues on the TF101.
I just had mine act up on me, went around the house trying different wall sockets and checked that it worked fine via USB to PC. Ended up taking a can of dust-off to all the pins, then shoving the plug hard into the TF101 socket. Now it works.
Should have mentioned I have a dock as well, which doesn't charge either (so problem is probably with cable/brick)
I'm trying to get new ones (nowhere to be found here, but I'm trying to get one sent to me). I tried looking for dust/dirt and different wall sockets, no luck.
Weird thing - I left it plugged in to the wall overnight and it grew from 5% to 15%, so looks like some electricity is trickling.
I had the same problem with mine after I had it for 5 weeks, I just RMA'd it and everything is fine.
Im having the same exact problem. I left it charging over night by mistake the night before yesterday. I only let it charge 3 hours the most because I know the Transformers have known issues.
I tried to charge it this morning and nothing. I plug it into my PC. The PC recognized the Transformer but no charging. Turned it on and off, nothing.
Just put the power brick in the freezer, waiting to dry up to see if it works .
Although the tf charger and cable has a usb connector it is not usb compliant. the charger brick looks for a gnd signal on pin 7 of the usb connector ( normally a usb 3.0 data line) to determine it should supply 15V to the positive charge pin vs standard 5V. The slow charge you are seeing is from the 5V supply . check to see if pin7 is seeing the gnd signal. Are you using a usb 2.0 extension cable as it doesn't have have pin 7 conductor. be careful connecting your ipod as it could accidentaly see 15V vs the 5V it is designed for.
Hi guys! I have a USB problem that's been haunting me for over two months now and I still don't have a solution.
After the repair center refused to replace my broken micro-USB connector under warranty because of alleged water damage, I decided to do it myself and ordered a new connector on eBay. Once it arrived I was discouraged to carry out such a repair myself by my uncle, who is quite experienced with micro electronics, and that he would do it for me.
I gave the phone and the new connector to him last Saturday and he had done the repair by Sunday evening. I went to his home to pick it up and found it charged to a full 100%. However, when I came home and after some usage wanted to plug it in again for the night, I could not get it to charge from my home charger.
I've tried the following:
-LG wall plug with LG usb cable (came with the optimus pro that I'm using as a temporary phone)
-Dedicated aftermarket 220V to micro-usb charger (good quality, not the cheap chinese kind)
-NS original USB cable connected to computer
-NS original USB cable connected to LG wall plug (different that the first mentioned wall plug)
So far the first two were unsuccessful and the latter tow only work if I pull cable to the right, while the phone is off. I have not been able to charge while on. An expectable reaction would be to buy a new charger because probably all my chargers and cables are broken, but the strange thing is that they work perfectly on the charm. The phone can not be the source of the problem either, becauee it was charging fine at my uncles place.
What possibility am I not seeing here people? What am I missing?
Hello everyone,
Since a google search did not reveal other people having the same problem, decided to ask around here.
Purchased the Moto G a few days ago and only had to charge it once since then. Really happy with the phone as value for money is amazing.
This morning I used it with Navigation and when I got the 14% left of battery notification, connected my old car charger which worked fine with every device until now. To my surprise, the phone did not show any signs of charging and battery kept on discharging.
Got home, tried the cable that came in the box and same results. Connected the phone to a USB port on my PC and it charges. Tested my old phone with car charger and that works just as I knew it would.
Obviously, there's nothing wrong with the car charger which has an output rated at 5V and 500mA (same as USB port).
Asked moto support about this issue and they advised to turn off the phone for at least 5 minutes and try charger again. This time, when connecting the phone, it just turned on as I had left it turned off and after boot still no signs of charging.
The moto support website states that it should work with pretty much any charger.
Any advice besides from testing other car chargers?

motorola branded. Around 6€ if I remember correctly
I found an odd youtube clip from an aussie on the road complaining that none of the chergers he kept buying were working, what he eventually did was short out the green and white points in the charger as they apparently are left dead or have resistors on them but you could do the same by splicing a regular cable and twisting the green and white wires to the phone.
tried it earlier and it seems to work, so am adapting a cheapo usb wired charger first then will tinker with some cables.
My Moto G charges on every wall charger except Kobo's, the only 2A one. My generic auto charger has 1A and 2A sockets which both work. I suspect your auto charger is out of spec, 5V +/- 0.25V (USB 1/2). My Walkman didn't like my desktop ports, and support says custom computers may not work.
Wikipedia has a good section on Power (7) in the USB article. Forum won't let me post the link!
sure I have replied to one version of this anyway although a bit late this does come up first in a google.
so the issue is the phone has its floating point thingy locked so it it doesn't work with most in and out chargers even the posh ones only provide power.
so taking a hint from a crazy aussie who was butchering chargers I took a different approach and butchered cables.
the principle is the same the white and green wires in cable or the white and green terminals in the charger need to be bridged or joined together. if you feel the wires are a bit thin to cut into or you like me break them a lot then you can use a USB extension cable and splice that instead.
I chopped off the end off a data cable and patched one directly into a standard micro usb charger where I'd broken the tip and it works a treat as indeed do the other mods.
much easier than hacking the phone IMO.
Hi everybody,
I have recently bought the htc CAR D170 car kit (the original of htc, with possibility to charge the device) and I noticed that, after charging it in the car, when I try to charge it with the usual usb AC adapter/cable, it doesn't seem to get the electrical connection as good as it was before.
The usb plug seems to be more "loosely" plugged into the phone's socket, if you move the cable it looses connection, and the bad thing is also that if I plug another usb AC adapter, the usb socket of my phone seems to damage the adapter's plug so that, when used with another phone or micro usb device, the connection gets unstable, too.
It seems to me that the usb plug of the car kit has somehow twisted the device's usb socket...
Did anyone also try this car kit? I don't even know if this is covered by the warranty...
The usb port on the One mini seems to be a little weak. My usb port became very loose after just 2 months, and after another month it stopped working with my usb data cable and OTG cable. Also took twice as long to charge using the mains charger.
My phone is currently with HTC to be repaired ...I hope, as this is the second time i've sent it in. The first time they didn't bother to do anything to it and sent it back to me saying there was nothing wrong work it!.. I'm hoping they don't charge me for this as this is clearly a fault with the phone. The usb port needs to last at least as long as the contract your on.
I had my previous Samsung s1 for over 3 years with heavy use and the port on that is still going strong. I'm using that phone now while I wait for mine to return.
