is there anyway to boost wifi reception on the shift? a lil bit of background info i just got my replacement shift back from sprint and rooted it thenks to indirects write upand prboy1969's help. but after rooting i have experienced horrible wifi range i have to be about five feet away from the box to have excellent strength but if im about 15-20 feet away it says poor and i have to have the shift pointed directly at the wifi modem. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

My replacement Shift has horrible Wifi reception also right now. Did you unroot and check to see if it's better on stock?
I know you probably already did this stuff. But did make sure nothing is blocking the signal coming from your Router ? I know that on my house soemone always wants to try and tuck the Router back behind something, or put something on top of it. Because it's Ugly. Also Routers give off a better signal when they're not on the floor. Did you go into Menu-Settings-Wireless & networks-Wi-Fi settings-menu-Advanced , and make sure you have Best Wi-Fi performance checked off ? Then Menu-Save.

I had a choice between a referbed epic the old one with the keyboard or a new in box EVO 3d so I went with the 3d. So sadly I won't be around the forums much anymore

Good choice but the only issue with the lastest EVO 3D is the newer hboot that has to be unlocked using the htc tool. It seems HTC is making it harder and harder to get S-OFF bootloaders

Well you choose well, if those were your only choices. But it kinda sucks as far as the way your going to have to use to gain root. But have fun with the new phone .

Did you get a white 3d or a black 3d? If they gave you a white one they screwed you... The white evo3d went e.o.l. the same day the shift did...

Just went to the local store and was going to by a g2x for my wife out of stock while I was there, guess who a LG REP I probed her for questions did not answer me why no longer on sale, could not tell me but she did assured me that LG will. Be pushing an update VERY SOON.. what ever that means

that was a bit un-necessary eh? you can see the "add to cart" button is greyed out. it's pretty much confirmed. The phone is no longer, for the moment at least, up for grabs on the t-mob site and I would guess in stores. just a guess tho

Do you think there will be 2 updates: one to fix the current issues and the other Gingerbread, or 1 update that combines the two? I hope it's both. Right now my phone is on it's way here. I will test to see if I have the same problems as others have.

Update is any day now...they pulled the remaining stock because of two reasons...
1. QC issues with the first few batches
2. The update will need to be applied OTA so it proly makes more sense to do that in house then sell the phones....

I hear you. I want to keep the G2x. I hate HTC Sense. I don't want the Sensation or any other phone or I would of waited. They need to send out a major update ASAP to fix all the software issues. As far as screen bleed. Replacement with a new batch if LG fixes ?

Weirdly enough my backlight bleed resolved itself. It was pretty bad now its not there at all. I agree it needs to be fixed and I think they're just processing the boatload of returns they got on the device.
And the Sensation is a rather large downgrade from the G2x... The Snapdragon's graphics capability is less than half what the G2x pulls stock, let alone when overclocked. I'd leave T-Mobile if they tried to force a Sensation down my throat.

Oh, I don't want the Sensation either. If I did, I would have already returned the G2X and used my Vibrant until then. I am sticking to what I said before and that is, I feel that the G2X is the better device that will hold me over until Tmo gets there SGSII variant. I have wanted that phone since I saw it.
I made my comment because I don't think T-Mobile would ever take our devices back, give us a different phone and discontinue the G2X completely. Thats a serious loss of revenue. No company in there right mind would do that. The most T-mobile will do is replace our phones with working ones from a new batch.
They can have my g2x.... when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. I ain't gonna update ****. My phone works perfectly. Even though I was a bit disapoonted with the can boasting 8mp and have suck ass features this phone rocks. I hope those who do have issues get some justice though.

Would anyone be able to link the post regarding the g2x being pulled? I'm just getting into the android world and the g2x is my first android device and I love it. I can't even find a example of the screen bleed everyone is talking about.
Guess I don't have the issue since I love my screen, but the constant radio bounce is annoying, so is the phone turning off in the middle of the night and not waking me when it's time to go to work. But that had only happen once.

Ditto, Had a g2x and traded it (had no issues except for minimal screen bleed. I still have another one but it's at LG for repair rma due to excessive screen bleeding) Really am loving the sensation. The G2X is faster for sure, but we shall see which is faster once we get S-off and root and a vanilla android rom Once I get my G2X back from LG I think I will switch between the 2 for a few days then the g2x will probably become my business line phone. I'm on flex pay and here is the strange thing.. with my g2x it let me forward my VM to google voice, with the sensation it doesnt. I read that flex pay customers are barred from using conditional forwarding so not sure how it worked on my g2x and not on my sensation.. smh

If you happen to get that weird black box on the lock screen, place your finger where the circle would normally be and flick up. It'll unlock the phone without a battery pull (don't know if you saw my topic on that on moco).

I am on my third Sensation and so far this one has been quite good. I have a G2x which I really like as well and also a Vibrant (that I thought I would always keep) and if the Sensation continues to perform flawlessly I will sell my Vibrant. There is just something about the Sensation, I really do not know what it is, but even though the G2x is faster at this point and seems smoother to me, I just keep picking up the Sensation. I hope that s off comes very quickly so we can see what this phone is really like!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont have G2X, BUT I use to have O2X which I think is similar phone, with some dimension different and signal processes only. Anyway, I ditch my O2X due to its poor design body, and its crap software UI..I'm not deny, O2X is faster compare to sensation, but I could not stand it when I hold in my hand and play with its UI...Grrrrrrr!!!!!!

Smash welcome to the dark side lol. And to answer your question, no I'm not having any issues loading large sites. I tried engadget (full site), cnn, and a couple others and it loads fine on or off wifi.
I'm going to jump on this thread instead of making a new one... Just returned a family member's G2x for it being the most buggy production phone I have ever seen, shame lg.
Anyway, looking at the sensation as a replacement, anything a huge issue? The g2x had such a software rebooting problem it was absolutely unusable. Just want to make sure software and hardware are working fine for most people...

Well since both the G2x and the Optimus 2X suffer from reboots, we can only assume that it is hardware and not software. The LCD panel is generally crap, the phone randomly freezes for multiple seconds...
And its sad that an overclocked Nook Color gets better benches than our G2x's.
My Sensation should be here today (Tuesday) or Wednesday at the latest... We'll see how it performs... You know there is something wrong with a high end phone when you call T-Mobile retention and tell them your phone is rebooting and they say it must be a G2x and immediately ask what other model you would like to replace it with...

Ok, not wanting you to suffer any more than necessary....I reached over and grabbed my Sensation off the nightstand. I do have both. After reading all the hype, again, about the Sensation, I put my sim back in...fired that baby up.
I started reading comparisons about how great the qHD screen is. Processing speed....how you can play, almost every game. How internet was great...blazing speed, etc...
Ok....I really need to give this another shot...after all, I paid for it.
So...turned it on....No Wifi....reboot...No Wifi and no bars...hmmm...checking to make sure I removed the cone of silence....switched over to the LG....no wifi...duh...its off...but...2 bars 4g. Ok..maybe I'm holding it wrong...you know..Death Grip...so I grab a pencial and hold the the LG with just a pencil...4g 2 bars....Sensation....0 bars.

I have a Optimus 2X the AWS 1700 version which was released here in Canada on Wind Mobile and it suffers absolutely none if the issues which I have experienced with my G2X...one thing different I have seen while comparing the version info is my baseband version is dated Jun-05-2011 where as all the g2x's ive been through have a baseband date of March-27-2011

Is this because there are more people with that phone and more developers or is the Sensation not the hot pick? more people bought the evo 3d, more devs there.. thats what happens
We'll have to keep an eye on the EVO 3D for hacks. Most of T-Mobile USA's best tinkerers aren't on the Sensation yet, while many of Sprint's have jumped from the EVO to the 3D. Thankfully the phones are similar enough that we should benefit pretty well.

I think it's a function of the difficulty of jumping carriers in the US. The 3D is the first tempting Sprint phone to come along since the first EVO so the devs are moving to it. On T-Mobile, we've had the MT4G, G2, and G2x as hacking options, so the community has been splintered a bit. I think once we get the Sensation cracked open, plenty of devs will come work on it. They're just not leaving their other root-friendly phones yet.
Ok let's get back on subject. Has anyone tried this yet. I'm at work, but I can try when I get home.

Here's another simpler solution
I downloaded the app Volume+ from the market. There is also a free version at the developer's site: androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
I was able to raise the media volume so high I had to lower it some.
Downloading QPST now will feed back in a while.
it's a no go for me.
QPST is software for CDMA handsets.
T mobile is offering me a choice between a Sidekick 4g and a myTouch 4g slide.... I've read the specs and seems the mytouch is higher end but want to know opinions from users who know whats what. like I said I've read the specs already so I am trying to look past the black and white.

Pretty sure the Sidekick has reported A LOT of hardware problems.... check there forums here as well, but I do recall it being a high-problem phone.
You can't possibly go wrong with this device.
Developer "Blue61X" has even bought two of these devices because he loves it so much. if that helps

Yea, it's great. I can't see anything else coming close to it for a while in it's class ( hardware keyboard )
The stock battery is not great - and that's being polite.
You can find links to the battery threads in the contents page of my sticky in dev - basically you have the cheaper Anker or the more expensive Mugen to choose from to replace it with.
If you have/want to spend the money, the Mugen is great - I rock an Anker myself and love it.
Make use of the tv-out through the headphones jack, I play a lot of games output to a tv screen and the device stays alive and active while you are hooked up. I'm sure you can imagine how much more fun racing games and many others will be like this.
You can also find links to the tv threads in the dev reference, which will tell you what cable to get.
I have a Trident case on my primary, and love it. There's a decent thread on cases, but I've been pretty busy around here and haven't had the chance to update it in a while. I'll get back to it sometime.
Once you change a few keymappings, update with my gps fix and start really playing with it you'll love it.
Any specific questions just toss 'em out there - but there is no other device now or that we know of coming that I would trade this for.

Depends. For the new update, which you'll have, you got a chance with the HTC unlock tool - if that works you can do most stuff.
We are actively working on a downgrade to S-OFF option - this led to me getting S-OFF to S -ON for us a couple hours ago and I'll be bringing one of my devices up to the S-ON locked state you'll get it in later tonight.
Then I'll be able to actually try stuff instead of us guessing - all the devs working on the fix were S-OFF already so figuring out how to flip it S-ON was a big step in productivity. Once I update in S -ON, I'm stuck until we figure it out - so don't worry man, right there with ya.
HTC should have the issue resolved and restart the OTA in the not too distant future.

DO NOT SIDEKICK 4G i have that phone and its slow as ****, no roms, very hard to put clockwork mod on it,
the olny good thing about it is the keyboard and i personally prefer the mytouch 4g slides keybaord
@ Blue: looking forward to the success of your work and all that I can learn from you and the other devs. I personally use the Samsung galaxy s 4g and am getting this phone to replace my wife's mt3gs and think I'm going to be jealous from the little bit that I've read.
@wiswis: already placed the order for the mytouch. I posted something similar to this in the sidekick forum and plenty of people have viewed but no post. They made the decision very easy.

Just a little word about the GPS. On the 1.28.531.10 stock ROM, your GPS fix was a huge improvement. However, now that I'm on the 1.55.531.3 stock ROM, the GPS is lightening quick and accurate without any adjustments on my part. HTC must have done some serious tweaking to the GPS code in this ROM.

You know, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that - there was a bunch of GPS stuff that was pushed for the new update, a new SUPL cert and gps.conf file. I meant to take a look at it to see what they did and if it still needed help or not, but haven't had a chance to yet.
Hopefully I'll have the presence of mind to pull them from my other phone now that it's up to date stovk

If you read the specs alone it should be nothing but obvious what phone to choose its like asking should i go with a free geo or a BMW .........
i think you get the idea by now, but i'll just say, the keyboard is the ONLY POSSIBLE reason you might choose the SK. i've had both, and there is no comparison... MT4GS all the way.
LMFAO! Screw the damn keyboard. I can't wait to dig into this phone and see what it can do. Only downside is my wife said I only get one weekend to set it up before she takes it away. NOW that I have the phone on order and I'll only have the weekend to mess with it any suggestions on what I should start with until s-off is achieved?
Depends what hboot u get. If u get the older one, ur in business. Ez to root and s-off.
Use rubix ics 5.2 with my directions on page 148 of its thread on rootzwiki, if u want stability with everything working and super fast. If she wants ics, tbalden's rom probably. But all the 4.0.X roms are still a work in progress.

I want the stuff that lets me dig in.... my wife doesn't care. she just wants it to work. as far as getting 4.0 on it, don't really care yet either way yet.
