G2x update

Just went to the local store and was going to by a g2x for my wife out of stock while I was there, guess who a LG REP I probed her for questions did not answer me why no longer on sale, could not tell me but she did assured me that LG will. Be pushing an update VERY SOON.. what ever that means

that was a bit un-necessary eh? you can see the "add to cart" button is greyed out. it's pretty much confirmed. The phone is no longer, for the moment at least, up for grabs on the t-mob site and I would guess in stores. just a guess tho

watch t-mo will probably say hey you can trade in your g2x for the new sensation. and watch everyone get pissed cause of the locked bootloaders and tmo will be laughing their asses off

Do you think there will be 2 updates: one to fix the current issues and the other Gingerbread, or 1 update that combines the two? I hope it's both. Right now my phone is on it's way here. I will test to see if I have the same problems as others have.

I would love to live in your dream world.

Update is any day now...they pulled the remaining stock because of two reasons...
1. QC issues with the first few batches
2. The update will need to be applied OTA so it proly makes more sense to do that in house then sell the phones....
these are my OPINIONS, btw...I know I come across as like I know something, but I'm actually an idiot...do not listen to me

I hear you. I want to keep the G2x. I hate HTC Sense. I don't want the Sensation or any other phone or I would of waited. They need to send out a major update ASAP to fix all the software issues. As far as screen bleed. Replacement with a new batch if LG fixes ?

Weirdly enough my backlight bleed resolved itself. It was pretty bad now its not there at all. I agree it needs to be fixed and I think they're just processing the boatload of returns they got on the device.
And the Sensation is a rather large downgrade from the G2x... The Snapdragon's graphics capability is less than half what the G2x pulls stock, let alone when overclocked. I'd leave T-Mobile if they tried to force a Sensation down my throat.

Oh, I don't want the Sensation either. If I did, I would have already returned the G2X and used my Vibrant until then. I am sticking to what I said before and that is, I feel that the G2X is the better device that will hold me over until Tmo gets there SGSII variant. I have wanted that phone since I saw it.
I made my comment because I don't think T-Mobile would ever take our devices back, give us a different phone and discontinue the G2X completely. Thats a serious loss of revenue. No company in there right mind would do that. The most T-mobile will do is replace our phones with working ones from a new batch.

They can have my g2x.... when they pry it from my cold dead fingers. I ain't gonna update ****. My phone works perfectly. Even though I was a bit disapoonted with the can boasting 8mp and have suck ass features this phone rocks. I hope those who do have issues get some justice though.

Would anyone be able to link the post regarding the g2x being pulled? I'm just getting into the android world and the g2x is my first android device and I love it. I can't even find a example of the screen bleed everyone is talking about.
Guess I don't have the issue since I love my screen, but the constant radio bounce is annoying, so is the phone turning off in the middle of the night and not waking me when it's time to go to work. But that had only happen once.

Switched to Sensation _ Thank You

Hey guys, I know that this is the millionth post about this but I gave in and switched to the Sensation.
I could not handle the reboots and the fact the TMobile and LG left me in Limbo for so long about what they were going to do.
I just wanted to thank all the Developers that made the phone usable and all the people who helped me out when I had questions. The G2X is truly a great phone and I hope that it comes back truly stronger with the Gingerbread update. Again. Thank you.

Well, I own both...and unless the news out of LG is totally bad..I won't be switching. It's slower and sexier and has the same problems every other phone has...
Both are good phones...I doubt the lack or reboots was the final decider. Its a Nexus style body that is fast and cool, and new, and it fit nicely in your hand.
If you like it, you like it. If not, you don't. Next !!!!
I did a test... I handed my girlfriend the Sensation...she goes...wow....this is nice. then I handed her the G2x. She goes...wow....this is nice. I see your problem now. All of that without once touching anything on the phone....only holding it.
Would you own a phone that didn't feel good in your hand? I owned an iPhone...bought it because it was cool. I gave it away to my son because he wanted it. The phone felt weird so I wasn't overwhelmed by it. Looked at the iphone 4 at VZW last week. It still felt weird. Didn't buy it.
So, bottom line....this is NOT about quality, this is about feeling good !!! hahahahah where's that guy with the bridge !!!

WHICH IS IT??? I never call anyone a deliberate troll, the term is most often only used on people who others don't agree with, vs the true meanings.

Whoa whoa so I am being accused of being a troll. I find it funny that you decide to include those 2 posts and not the other ones that I have posted in the G2X forum. That's hilarious. I was able to get my hands on a sensation and went with it. I still have a G2X but right now I am rolling with the Sensation. I could care less what phone you use. I only posted this to thank developers and the people who helped me with my questions that I had. I am sure that you can find those and post the TOM. GTFOH

I thought your original post was very thoughtful and took it the way you meant it. Using the "S" word seems to set some people off unless its followed by POS, horrible, slow, buggy, or inferior.

Yea, using the "S" word here is a no no. It's kind of funny because over in the Sensation forum, you don't see anyone talking **** about the G2X and trying to justify why the Sensation is the better device.
Usually when you need to start justifying something......well....you figure it out!

I have both devices and they are both great in my opinion. The best anology I can make is by comparing them to cars. The g2x is a lamborghini, the sensation is a porsche.
The g2x is faster and more exotic, but difficult to live with on a daily basis due to instability and "high" maintenance.
The sensation is plenty quick, just not as quick, but the great trade-off is that it is reliable and predictable.

I want to jump in here a sec, i have a G2X, im on my second one. First one was rebooting and driving me crazy, Amazon as always is awesome. Got my replacement with no screen bleed but it randomly reboots also, does it less but it still does. Called them up and got them to send me a Sensation. I've tested it before and saw some very minor lag, but the phone is a beaut. Come Monday i will have them both in hand and have 30 days to decide. I love the G2X but my wife who has a Nexus one and my son who has a Nexus S both tell me the same thing why keep a phone if you cant have it reliably answer a call or make a call. I'm tired of my wife and son telling me there phones are so stable. I know already, both of them where mine lol. Just last night we where watching a movie on the tv and the G2X was sitting there on the table and it just reboot again and my wife just laughed. Im so lucky to be able to just switch to whatever phone i want and not worry about things like reboots. LG you have 30 days to fix, HTC you have 30 days to unlock or i hear Smasung has a SGS2 i can import.

So you write to me telling me you like and love your G2x, comment on people who have Sensations, clearly showing you are not part of that group.
THEN only 6 hours later, you create this thread as a swan song that you are ditching the G2x and went to the Sensation.
From loving the phone to dumping the phone in 6 hours flat. I only noticed the smell because you posted by name to me, and you created this thread 6 hours later. So I thought I would ask you why you bought a 600 dollar phone replace a phone you had loved just 6 hours earlier.
Sorry to have a sense of smell, thought you might want to explain/bluff more....no need as yes they are both great phones, both with about the same level of problems, with the biggest difference being most of the G2x will be resolved and speeded up by 2.3 that the Sensation already runs that.

Why can't he love his G2X but use another phone?
I love my G2X but I love my Sensation more. Am I a troll as well because I don't use the G2X anymore as my daily driver?

I just got off the phone with customer care. This is my 3rd phone in a week. Each one with different problems. (Dim screen, buzzing earpiece speaker, dust in the FFC, etc) I think my total is 5 different MT4G's...
They tried to send me some piece of crap 3g phone as a replacement. After blowing the whistle on that scam...
They are sending me an LG G2x.
It's been great times on this forum. Thanks again Evil D and Zinx I'm glad we donated to get both of you a device.
Hope to be supporting the G2x development. Thanks again all...

The LG G2x is buggy as hell!!!
TMO and LG are promising an update to GB to fix ALL the issues....but haven't released it yet.
I have both the LG G2x and MT4G....MT4G is virtually flawless....I love it.
I would wait for the GB release on the LG before jumping in.
As of today with the G2x, you will be dealing with:
1.) Multiple random reboots
2.) Bluetooth connectivity issues
3.) Hung operating system (i.e. - phone will freeze and you will need to pull the battery to recover)
4.) Hot running battery and short Battery life
5.) Wifi connectivity issues
6.) Screen light bleed
7.) etc, etc, etc...this is what I have so far...don't know about everyone else.
I would wait for the GB released version...patience is a virtue, and GB on LG will prevent you from from throwing the phone out the window from the top of a 30 story building.

Just because other people have had issues with any type of phone doesn't mean you will have the same experiences - common sense, enjoy your new phone and good luck.

Obvious choices are either Evo3D or Nexus S 4G. I would probably go with the Evo3D.

I'd go with probably one of the 2 already mentioned: evo3d or nexus s 4g...I actually prefer the nexus s aesthetically, but after everything I've heard about Samsung android phones, I'd probably go with the evo3d...can't beat HTC when it comes to solid builds.
To the OP, good luck with your new phone. I for one am going with the same MT4G for 5 months and couldn't be happier. I did initially have to trade it ONCE to get a 'good' screen at the very beginning, so I understand the frustration of having to exchange it when you just want a solid phone...but it's so worth it when you do get that good unit.

I've gone through my share of phones in the past year and the MT4G has treated me right from day one, a good friend of mine is on the Evo 3D and loving it all day, (Reported that it in fact has been rooted) but HTC is to release the bootloader soon anyways but good job in the exploit.
The phones I've found to have the least amount of issues so far was the SideKick 4G, MT4G, G2 but obviously found what I was happy with here. Sorry to hear you had such a hard time with the phone as the devs here are great at their work and take pride in what they do, I've been around and so far I have no complaints on either end here.
Good luck on what ever you choose, sometimes you have to break a few screens before you find one your less apt to whip against the wall or out the car.

My gf has the evo 3d and ive never been a fan of the evo screens(4g and 3d) compared to a good screen mt4g, The evos felt like looking at my old washed out screen mt4g. I hope the galaxy s2 comes out soon. Id rather get that

I went through four different boxes of the G2x at my T-Mobile store (my local store has awesome reps, lol). Every last one of them had horrible screen bleed in two or three corners.
My MT4G, which is like the effin' magical unicorn of MT4Gs (good screen, perfect power button, no creaky buttons, OCs and UVs like a champ), is almost AMOLED-like in the dark on a black screen. Not even the slightest hint of screen bleed even in a pitch-black room.
Which is a shame. I really wanted to bump up my screen size, and the G2x is a sweet device on paper, but sadly so many manufacturing issues with this one...
Guess I'll just wait for the SGSII or whatever else T-Mobile gets. Sensation's a bust with its locked bootloader.

My MT4G has been the best phone I've had - I have the good screen and none of the issues, nothing. I really hate to part with this phone in favor of Sensation, and already having second thoughts about it. I'll probably end up keeping it

I have the good everything except the eMMC chip. I hope it doesn't go out on me. I really do not want to play return-roulette with T-Mobile. I really love my Glacier, but I would trade/sell it for a Nexus S in a heartbeat if the Nexus S had an sdcard slot.
Actually, I would have just bought the Nexus S to begin with... lol

Yeah - they did that for me too. The G2x was so bad, I called yesterday and they are overnighting me another MT4G. Good luck!

I MISS MY G2X :( Im trying to come back

I had good experience with my G2x until it rebooted once a day after about a month, I then game it up for the sensation and loved it.
Until I realized I cant foking get wifi in landscape. Ive had 3 already and all have the issue. The 2 different type of screens suck, it has a screen issue, etc.
Basically im finding out that all phones have issues, it just depends on the issues your willing to deal with. ME, Id personally rather see a lil bleed and have a reboot once a day then have wifi Crap and Unreliable. In the next room it dies covering it.
DAAAAAAMN. are the G2xs good yet? Have they been in stock again? Im thinking about exchanging the sensation 3 more times online and seeing if they can give me back a new g2x, because I know that the sensations I recieve will still have this issue.
Im also wondering if those that dont just have a good router N, and I got G, so maybe thats why theres is ok and mine dies completely.
ITS TRUE, THE GRASS ISNT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. THAT AND NO DAMN ROOOOOOOOOOOOOT. I DIDNT THINK HTC WOULD DRAG THIS LONG. BUT I THINK THIS PHONE IS WIFI DEFECTED AND IS WORSE THAN ANYTHING THE G2X HAS.

I had good experience with my G2x until it rebooted once a day after about a month, I then game it up for the sensation and loved it.
Until I realized I cant foking get wifi in landscape. Ive had 3 already and all have the issue. The 2 different type of screens suck, it has a screen issue, etc.
Basically im finding out that all phones have issues, it just depends on the issues your willing to deal with. ME, Id personally rather see a lil bleed and have a reboot once a day then have wifi Crap and Unreliable. In the next room it dies covering it.
DAAAAAAMN. are the G2xs good yet? Have they been in stock again? Im thinking about exchanging the sensation 3 more times online and seeing if they can give me back a new g2x, because I know that the sensations I recieve will still have this issue.
Im also wondering if those that dont just have a good router N, and I got G, so maybe thats why theres is ok and mine dies completely.
ITS TRUE, THE GRASS ISNT ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. THAT AND NO DAMN ROOOOOOOOOOOOOT. I DIDNT THINK HTC WOULD DRAG THIS LONG. BUT I THINK THIS PHONE IS WIFI DEFECTED AND IS WORSE THAN ANYTHING THE G2X HAS.

At this point, I am very happy I did not make the jump to the Sensation. You would think finding a cheap, used G2x would not be that hard with all the goodbye G2x threads.

Sensation definitely has more issues than G2x which are hardware and not software.

Really guys, really. The wifi issue is huge. I didnt have the death grip with data, just wifi. Others dont but I think its cause they have nice new N routers or something. But where my sensation dies just by covering, I could sit on my G2x and it would never lose signal all the way down.
THE G2x to me is starting to look like a better device.

I think im gonna trade on craigslist for one. Cause i cant take this any longer. And no one can post proof theirs does not have the issue. They keep saying you need to trust me. LOL Ive trusted my own results where the mo fo dies.....

Yea u should def try craigslist Idk bout where you're at but in Dallas I've seen quite a few g2xs for trade and some even with cash on top lol so goodluck dude

Selling my G2X and keeping my problem free Sensation. My G2X doesn't have a scratch on it, has never rebooted, has a decent battery (not quite as good as my Sensation) and only has minor screen bleed but in my opinion doesn't touch the color or clarity of my Sensation.
Make me a offer I can't refuse.

My son has a pretty funny thing going on with his...funny to me...not him.
He has a pretty cool case for the Sensation...works great, very minimal. Does not have any Death grip issues...case seems solve this.
He has WiFi Case grip issues In order to get WiFi in his bedroom, he has to remove the case.
So, go to work, put on the case, no problems. Come home from work, remove the case...no problems.

Theres a ground issue.

id rather have a g2x I think. The sensation IMO is better, but the issues are more sever.

lol I never had a issue with reception, just the wifi. I actually put a piece of PT in between my case and phone and it fixed it..... lol Ill post a video later on it cause I want people to see it.

I hit up Youtube and there are tons of Sensation issue videos. Doubt any of those are repairable via software.
G2x + CM7 = heaven. This phone is blazing fast.

What kind of screen issues are you having with the Sensation? I might be interested in trading for my G2X straight up. Mine is relatively problem free. One time I had an issue with my GPS not getting a fix but a reboot fixed the problem. I've never had a single reboot and there is minimal screen bleed.

Great to have you back to the G2x side of the house. I just got into Droid after trading my iPhone4 on Craigslist for the G2x and the dude threw in 150 cash. Definately check CL.

Have you thought about joining the dark force? If you sold the Sensation the difference between it and the SGS2 would be about $150. Pretty much unlimited everything on AT&T is about $82 (plus tax) a month. If you're stuck with an ETF than I'm guessing it would be too pricey to switch. Just something else to ponder.

I am glad I got a less trouble unit and keeping it. I was reluctant to get Sensation after I tested it.
It seems that HTC phones have wifi reception problem from my touch pro 2, nexus one, and to mytouch 4. They have hard time to get signal from upstairs.

this thread has convinced me to pull my g2x off of clist. Kudos sir.. i shall be patient for either cynogen to get a2dp or for the fix/update from LG sometime before i die.
does anyone have an opinion on how the galaxy s stacks up to the g2x? I was giving that some SERIOUS thought.

if so, what did you say. i just got off the phone with corporate and all she could do was waive the 20 dollar exchange fee and tmobile is now sending me my 4th g2x.
when this new g2x is buggy like i'm sure it will be, what should i say so that customer care will send me a sensation instead. After going on a 14 day roadtrip where my g2x's gps refused to work i can't stand having to deal with this phone anymore.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side. Trust me. Going through three sensations I realized the g2x issues aren't that bad especially on cm7... Read my previous posts also as JW. Mines a completely different experience ...

If you have returned it 3 times within 90 days on the warranty you can just ask them to exchange it for you. I think they call it their "multiple warranty exchange program" or something like that.

Unlike Smashpunks, the grass was greener enough to make the Sensation my daily driver. My G2X didn't have any problems by the way. I just like the bigger display, crisper looking text, better camera and the phone feels better in my hand.

Again OP. This gentleman has proven his sensation to be worthy and have non of the wifi issues I had. So moral of the story is. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, always, but you may find that green patch like JW did.. lol
I love my g2x. I would have loved the sensation also without the wifi and screen issue after a week. So if the both were flawless which would I pick? Honestly if I had no issues on either. I think I'd still go g2x. Something about the tegra chip that foking rocks. Also that extra dead space at the bottom of the g2x by the capacitive buttons that everyone hates, well, I love it.... this phone looks sweet. Sensation was a great phone. Just 3 bad in a row gave be bad joojoo.
Oh jw is right. The camera on the sensation destroys the g2x, not only in quality but features. Like the video camera can refocus while touching the screen, genius ..

A: Last I talked to customer care they did say something along the lines of "well, what phone would you want instead?" when I said, "I have little confidence that another G2x will be any better." But I never followed up on that and just got another G2x on the way. It's my first replacement, and now my phone is working fine again after the backlight got stuck on dim and then refused to boot.) So I may keep the original since the bleed is minimal and I've never gotten an auto reboot. I have had to manually reboot a lot to cure failing wifi and other such issues.
B: The annoying, but effective GPS cure for me was to get "GPS Test" from the market, it's free. After I turn on the GPS I open GPS Test and I watch as it gets a lock in seconds. If I go right to Google Maps or Navigon after turning on the GPS it sometime takes a long time or never locks. Stupid extra step to get around some lame bug someone should be fired for letting ship with the phone, but it's working for me. WMMV. Good luck.

They replaced mine with a Sensation. I refused to leave the store without a fully working product or my money. I literally pulled a chair up to the manager an asked him to fix it or give me something that works.
I certainly liked the G2x a great deal but the Sensation is really reliable and the battery life is fantastic. I really mean that. I would happily use a G2x again...but not until I can rely on it.
