Tweaked 2.0 kernel options? - Verizon Droid Charge

Ok all...I know about the wifi issues and all but here's my dilemma. I want ext4 on my phone but to have wifi I need to have the stock fp1 kernel which in turn makes me have rfs. Is there anyway any of you know of I could have wifi and ext4?

Go back to an EP4D based ROM, like Tweaked 1.5. Otherwise, someone will have to either modify the stock kernel or we'll need to wait until the source is released for it. Is RFS that much of a problem for you? I don't really have any performance issues with it on FP1.

I've been running rfs since FP1 came out and haven't had any issues with it. I probably would run ext4 if it were available, but I don't have any lag or any problems with rfs. They've gotten it pretty solid in recent builds.

Yeah I havent noticed any real problems with it but its just the reputation rfs has for being laggy

I believe most of that reputation is earned by misinterpreting Quandrant scores. Yes ext4 is much faster in raw read/write speeds, but raw speeds don't matter that much in the grand scheme of things unless you're streaming large amounts of data off of I/O. You will almost never being doing that on a smartphone.

Yeah I didn't notice any difference after using it for a day now

I have read here where having FP1 and a custom kernal, no WIFI. I am on the stock FP1 and showing FP1 kernal and have Tweaked 2.0. I can connect to WIFI, but when I try to use the browser for the internet, every thing is coming up unavailable. Is this what people are talking about with no WIFI or is this something new?

Check your wifi proxy settings. It should be blank.

FP1 source is out now, so we'll hopefully have a source compiled kernel in the next week or two.

What affects the wifi, modem or kernel?

I Odin'd raver's stock kj6 and trying to flash either the kernel or modem because my voice signal sucks for some reason. I was on Valhalla ki3 and my voice signal was excellent. The wifi on kj6 is only slightly improved in my opinion. It can still get inconsistent and when I'm not too far from the router I still get 2 bars. Thanks

The short answer is both. Check the dev section & you can download different modems to flash via ODIN or CWM. Maybe try KI3 & see if it goes back to how ut was.

Could be many factors that affect the modem, such as geographic location. For example, KI1 and KD1 modems works best for me. Just ODIN the Ki3 modem, and you should be good to go.
As far as things affecting the kernel (or what things in the rom the kernel affects), I wouldn't know exactly, other than that it's the core part of the "OS" if you will. I'm sure there are a lot of things the kernel is responsible for, so maybe a dev could shed some light on that.
Thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping some devs will shed some light.

I'm not a dev but the kernel is in charge of what goes on (memory management, hardware access, process scheduling, etc). The source for the modem driver comes from the kernel source tree. When the kernel is compiled the drivers the dev asked the kernel to build get built.
Other parts of the OS can also affect the wifi operations though I don't know what all they are.

The modem, kernel and wifi bins all effect it.
I'm using octane with the wifi bins from kj6 and its working just fine for me

So basically I have to experiment both the kernel and modem. Thanks for the inputs guys.

[Q] ROMS with no kernel

I am new to android and trying to figure things out. I notice a lot of the ROMS say that they don't have a kernel. Do I need to download and flash a kernel as well as a ROM? What would happen if I just flashed a ROM? I was looking at Eclipse and Tweakstock as possible options, but both say they don't come with a kernel. I am running the stock kernel (2.6.35.7-EP4). What would happen if I flashed Eclipse or Tweakstock with the stock kernel? Would it work? If I do need to get another kernel, any suggestions?
Why would you look at Eclipse? It's extremely outdated. Also, TweakStock has a version with a kernel in it.

Eclipse was the only ROM i noticed that said TW4. I wanted to be able to resize widgets and I know u can do that in TW4. As for the Tweakstock, I see now that there r multiple versions, though to be honest i'm kinda not sure which one im supposed to use. I think the last one with the experimental repacked EP4D kernel, but im not entirely sure. Again, I'm new to all this. Been on stupid windows mobile for the past few years, so i apologize if this is "no-brainer" stuff.
if you're on stock then the repack kernel should work fine

new to the droid charge world

recent got a droid charge and was wondering what is the current crowd favorite for ROM/Kernal combinations. on the Fasscinate i've been usings TSM Res/SuperClean with KGB kernal so trying to see what the player picks of choice would be here.
thanks
I'm currently using Imnuts' PBJ kernel and the Eclipse ROM, and I'm loving it
A lot of us like the Eclipse ROM
http://eclipserom.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=82
PBJ kernel is popular as well due to CPU tuning options, although I personally use Imoseyon kernel because it has been more stable for me.

I would choose Eclipse or Tweakstock with PBJ kernel.

I'm currently using Eclipse v1.1 EP4D and imnuts' 115 PBJ kernel converted to ext4 filesystem.

I'm also using Eclipse with Imnuts PBJ kernel. Make sure to use one of Imnuts's older kernels to convert to EXT4 before flashing the newest one.
been seeing people saying to flash imo's 4.x kernal for the conversion, then flash the pbj kernal
I've tried all thats available... Keep going back to Tweakstock with experimental kernel.

That's the way most people go. Post a thread in the Q&A if you're not sure about something. There's a lot of knowledgeable here people to help you out.

This. Exactly this.
I was all TweakStock until the new Eclipse came out. I haven't even considered anything else since, and my battery life on PBJ is beyond anything I've ever had on this phone. There's no comparison for me now: Eclipse on PBJ.
Good to know I have considered re-rooting now there are more roms out. Sounds like eclipse is the wary to go.

FP1 modem

Is it bad to run the new FP1 modem with the pbj kernel? I thought I read using a kernel that's made for a different modem can cause problems.

Im doing it now and have no wifi. Its a trade off for better battery life.
I'm using Fp1 modems with pbj. Wifi working here. I'm on eclipse. Stock Fp1 ROM with pbj on the other hand I heard breaks Wifi.

I'm running the exact same setup with zero issues. Seems to be a good combo for now.

wifi problems on tweaked 3.0

I installed tweaked 3.0 on my wife's droid charge and thought everything was fine cause she had not compained about it. After four months of being on this rom she comes up to me and says her wifi is not working. She cant remember if it ever worked or if it was just after I installed tweaked on it. I tried to enable wifi and it turns on and starts searching for a wifi connection, after a while it comes back saying "unable to scan for networks" and then disables wifi. Any tips will be appreciated, thanks.
Have you checked to see if there is anything in the proxy settings? There seems to be something adding some proxy server info into some peoples phones. Go to advanced under wifi then proxy and clear it if there is anything in there. The fact that it is being disabled is odd though. Maybe an app? :what:
. :: TSM Tweaked 3.0 . FP5 Kernel . Pirated Theme :: .
We'll thanks for the quick reply, but there was nothing on the proxy to clear.

Yeah I'm stumped on this. It could be a app like Antoneus said. Maybe Dwith has some input?
FP5 kernel?
Still Charged Up

sounds like the kernel. what kernel are you using? tweaked 3.0 only works with stock FP5. some other custom kernels have been known to break wifi.

I have been running FP1 PBJ custom kernel over Tweaked 3 FP5 for a couple months now with no issues. A couple weeks after Tweaked 3 was officially released I tried it, and I am loving it still.
(~: Tweaked out on Peace :~)
There have been some reports with wifi and general network connectivity issues, but it seems somewhat hit-or-miss. That being said, it prompted me to dig around a bit and I noticed some things were not quite right in the updater-script I was using. These things have been corrected in what will be 3.1, and from what has been reported to me it seems this resolved the situation.
That being said - if you are using an EP4 kernel on tweaked 3 wifi will not work. As tmanschuette said though, when using fp1 wifi will work fine.
Ok here's my info, build number:sch-I510.fp1
Kernel:2.6.35.7-ep4
I can't find which tweaked I'm running..
Thanks for the info

OK - if you are running tweaked then its a 2.x version, and that ep4 kernel is what's making your WiFi not work. Try flashing the fp1 pbj kernel - its a good one

ah, thanks. thought that might be the case - did not know if a custom FP5 was in testing mode...
which PBJ are you using, 0524, 0502? Tonist?
