Hello all. Thanks for the help. I have a G2x running Hellfire Sandwich v1.5. I cannot get my computer (XP SP3) to install drivers for MTP. I have downloaded the LG united usb driver and also the MTP drivers for Windows update and still no luck. Everytime I plug the phone into my computer it finds new hardware and tries to install drivers for it. I tell it it is ok to go on the internet for drivers and it still can't find anything. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and I have tried install with the phone plugged in during install and with the phone unplugged during install. I have gotten all the most recent drivers and still can't get it to work? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

have you flashed any kernels? (im not sure what comes in HFS) but some have issues with breaking MTP.
second, wikipidia states:
On Microsoft Windows, MTP is supported in Microsoft Windows XP if Windows Media Player 10 or later versions are installed.

so check to see if that is all there.
if after all of this it still wont work, try flashing another rom and try it on that.
Good Luck
Thanks for the reply. I saw that on Wiki and checked Media Player. I'm running v11. As for the kernel version:
3.0.26-p999-ics

I think I am going to try the Eaglesblood ICS ROM. Tired of messin with this...LOL
FYI -
I figured it out. Easy fix actually. Disable usb debugging and MTP works fine. Hope this helps someone else.

I was having the same issue as well with my evo 4g lte on my old work xp machine and disabling usb debugging was the solution as nothing else that I read was working, thanks everyone!
MTP Driver Issues with the LG (Tmo) G2X
After suffering my own issues with Sync and MTP, I can discuss my resolution:
I recently flashed Eaglesblood ICS for my T-mo G2x - all was well until I wanted to access the phone from my Asus EEE WinXP via USB.
Connected via USB and presented with an immediate popup to access photos only via LG-P999. No access to card.
Navigated to the USB options on device, 2 selections: Connect as a Camera or Connect as MTP Device.
When attempting to connect via MTP, I got a Driver Install Popup which could NOT install the drivers no matter what.
Here's what worked for me:
1. Make sure your Windows Media Player is updated to the latest version (>10).
2. Get the latest Driver Update from the LG Website and install it. If prompted, install the MTP Driver from Microsoft (automatic).
3. Disable USB Debuggging on DEVICE.
4. Connect the device, and you will once again be prompted with a DRIVER install FAIL. Now, navigate to the Device Manager on your PC.
5. Find the Yellow Exclamation point on the P999 Device in the manager. RIGHT CLICK the device and click UPDATE DRIVER.
6. Disable "Search Microsoft Update to Search for Drivers" then click Next.
Now, MTP Driver should successfully automatically install and you should be able to access SD. One caveat: I am only able to access SOME files as the ones that were previously associated with my last build (Gingerbread) do not always show, such as recorded calls from Call Recorder, etc.)
But this resolved the issue generally for me.
Good luck.

how do you disable the usb debugging? thanks
After flashing a kernel on LG G2, my MTP wouldn't connect. All I did was turned off developer mode and turn it back on and magic it worked again.
Thanks for the tip.

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I recently picked up a SGS4G and I immediately wanted to root it. When I plug my phone into the computer, however, the computer doesn't recognize it. The phone recognizes that it is plugged in (green android pops up, gives option of Kies, Media, or Mass Storage), but nothing happens on the computer end. I've downloaded about a million drivers and still no change. I've tried downloading Kies for drivers, but Kies doesn't even recognize a phone is plugged in. I've even downloaded drivers for the original Vibrant, but no luck. It's frustrating because I think that is the only reason my OneClickRoot keeps getting stuck on "waiting for device". Anyone have any ideas?
If you're using a 64 bit system, make sure you get 64 bit drivers.
Got a 64 bit system, got the 64 bit drivers. I even tried the 32 bit drivers just for the hell of it. Nada.
I dunno where you got your drivers, but here's the exact one I used.

I got mine from the "How to Root" thread in the SGS4G Bible thread

I had problems with my drivers before. I downloaded Kies Mini from Samsung's site. I used Kies to install the drivers and haven't had a problem since.

Ditto what Jerry said. They work like a charm.
Well I finally got my computer to recognize that my phone exists, but now I keep getting a message saying that the drivers have malfunctioned. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now, and no change. I can't get Kies to see my phone, or I'd try to download through it.
I'm at work so I don't have my Kies with me lol but you should be able to install the drivers. You can't do anything with Kies because the drivers aren't installed.
Look at the "options" in Kies to install drivers.
Sorry for the non technical directions. I only used Kies to install the drivers that one time.
Kies doesn't give me any option to install drivers. There isn't even an "options" tab. Even with my phone plugged in, Kies stills asks me to plug in a device. I've tried connecting my USB through Mass Storage, Media Player, and Kies. I've also tried all the above in USB debugging mode. I've even plugged it in in download mode. Still nothing. I keep getting the message that the drivers are malfunctioning.

Try this (sorry if I made this seem novice-like, but I just want to try and be clear):
Open a command prompt
type this, followed by Enter: set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
type this, followed by Enter: devmgmt
Once Device Manager opens, click View on the menu bar and select Show Hidden Devices
Expand both "Modems" & Universal Serial Bus controllers" & uninstall anything that has Samsung Android USB Composite Device, Samsung USB Composite Device, Samsung Mobile Device, Samsung Mobile Modem, etc.
Once the devices are gone, maybe reboot (probably not necessary, but why not?) and try the USB driver install again.

Ya, I didn't think there was an actual Options tab that is why I put options in quotes. I remember hitting install drivers when I installed mine months ago. It was very easy.
It sounds like you need the kind of help Steven is giving.
When you do get your computer to recognize your device I highly recommend installing the drivers through Kies. After many many flashes the have never let me down.
I wish I could be of more help. I've seen your problem in here before and our Helpful Members always get it figured out.
Best of luck!

Try USB Debugging
Oddly enough try only using the same USB port you originally installed the drivers on. I have noticed with windows 7, it tries to install the drivers when you change USB Ports, then again it should do this if they are on a separate controller.
As stated above, use USB debugging.
Hopefully we'll get you an answer that works.

Well, I tried Stephen's method, but still got nothing. I keep getting the error message. I just don't understand why the phone will recognize that it's plugged in, the computer will recognize that SOMETHING is plugged in, but it won't recognize WHAT.

Bummer, I Really hoped that would work. When you go into Add/Remove Programs does it show that the USB drivers are listed? If so, remove them there and re-try the installation.

I've tried that too, multiple times
I tried something different this time. In device manager, under USB Controllers, instead of deleting all the Samsung stuff, I deleted EVERYTHING (based on an idea I found on a Windows 7 help page dealing with error code 43). When I plugged my phone in, every one of the items I uninstalled reinstalled, except for "Unknown Device" (I'm assuming that's my phone), which came up failed. I'm not sure if this helps at all with diagnosing the situation, but I thought I'd throw it out there...

You need to remove all the Samsung drivers and kies if present in your PC and install Samsung USB drivers (find them from xda or Google or install kies)
Connect your phone in download mode and let the system detect your phone

This is a NEW problem that is affecting many thousands of people and it happened after the last update.
I have a GT 19300 v4.1.2 and all was well until I installed the update.
Now when I connect the phone to my PC (W7) the system sees it and tries to install drivers but then gives a message saying the it failed to install them.
Device manager now shows my phone as an unknown device and it didn't before.
I have tried lots of fixes and there are now dozens and dozens of them on different forums and none of them work.
This is not a cable problem and not a Kies problem. Lots of people including me have installed and uninstalled it.
I have the Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit an it installed the latest drivers today 1.5.15.0 and they didn't help.
Many people have tried a reset and all it did was waste their time so don't bother.
It looks like only Samsung or Google can fix the problem but I'd love to here of another fix.

I got a message on my cellphone "the software does not exist on your phone to allow it to connect with your phone. You need .. XP with Windows media player ..." I don't remember the exact words". I'm using W7
Then when I unplugged my phone W7 said drivers are being installed and then said successfully installed. I plugged the phone in and it was recognized.
I opened Samsung GS3 Int ToolKit but it didn't show a serial at the top. I attempted to do a back up of all programs but gave up after a message, "waiting for ADB mode" appeared on the screen for over an hour. My phone isn't rooted; is that why?
The phone is no longer being recognize

That is why you need to uninstall all drivers for phone, reboot, install drivers, reboot, plug phone in DO NOT let computer search windows update.Once you stop it from downloading from Microsoft it will load drivers you installed.
I just tried it again. deleted drivers and rebooted.
Installed Kies mini and rebooted.
I have had driver search turned off, but double checked and rebooted for safe measure and it still installed the the generic drivers.
deleted drivers and devices the way i know how and used the link above to make sure.
I even went in Deview and made sure that the any generic driver was gone as well.
Still getting the issue.
Any other suggestions.
I'm at a loss not

That did not work for me, but i did find this:
You can get the results above in Windows 7 Home Premium through the registry editor ... not going to tell you how to edit the registry... I'll assume you know how...
Add/update the following DWORD value in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions]
"DenyUnspecified"=dword:00000001
I had to manually add the "DeviceInstall" and "Restrictions" keys, then add the dword value "DenyUnspecified" and set it to 1.
To turn enable again, change DenyUnspecified to 0.
Now that i have stopped the automatic windows driver install, I thought i would be Ok but I'm still having issues with the proper infuse drivers. this just sucks odin will still not recognize my phone.
Ok any help.
I was able to stop windows 7 from installing the generic drivers by editing the registry, but the computer will not recognize the drivers from Samsung direct download or kies mini.
When doing a search to choose the driver windows 7 will not detect the drivers
I have tried the drivers from above, kies mini, kies, and samsung. no luck.
with the generic drivers it will still mount the storage cards no problem, adb works i just cant get odin or kies to work.

Hi, I'm running windows 8.1
I've installed nexus root kit with appropriate drivers. I've rooted my nexus 5 which still runs 4.4.
But since a few days, I can't see it anymore using USB connection, neither as a multimedia neither as a photo device.
A bit disappointed with this since I need it !
I've tried to follow NRK steps without success.
Any idea or suggestions ?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm having the exact same problem.
It's literally like earlier today I had my Nexus connected to my computer and it showed up as a drive as per usual. Then I disconnected it for whatever reason and a bit later when I tried to reconnect it, it no longer showed up at all. I've tried it on multiple computers, in both media and camera mode with usb debugging on and off. Basically I've tried the obvious stuff, but it just no longer shows up.
If you guys used ABD to sideload 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 then you will need to take off the drivers for that before your Nexus will be recognised as a standard media device in My Computer - it's because the ADB overwrites standard Google USB drivers
Had same issue yesterday

Interestingly enough I had the problem with the PC not recognizing my phone.
When I turned USB debugging ON, *tada* it worked. I don't know the background why this even makes a difference.
However for me it worked.
Disabling debugger change just nothing, neither than disabling developer tools...
I used Wugfresh's Toolkit to get the drivers. Make sure you use the usbdeview tool to delete any other drivers on your computer associated with the device. Then I did the install of the PDAnet drivers through the toolkit. When installing the drivers, there is actually a prompt that comes up on your phone that you have to "ok" as well. After two hours, that is how I got the drivers to work on Windows 8.1.

I did this. But my phone now is only detected as a Camera and not a Media Device. Any idea why this is?
I tried to access my phone's internal storage but the phone doesn't show in My Computer. The Portable Device in Device manager says MTP USB device and it has the yellow triangle on it. The Samsung driver is the Android Composite ADB Interface with no triangle. I have debugging on but the MTP device driver always fails whether debugging is on or not. I used Koush's drivers found here on XDA but same old thing. The Portable Device used to show up as A0001 and /or One but now it doesn't and I don't understand how that happened. Can someone enlighten me and perhaps solve this problem? It's been very frustrating as I just spent 13 hours trying to get my phone working (Thanks Heisenberg for fixing) and now another 6 trying to figure this out. Please HELP if you can. Thanks!

Even I had faced this problem on Windows 8. I had installed drivers 4-5 odd times. But later I just flashed CM11S zip via recovery and enabled USB Debugging Mode and it finally got recognized on my laptop.
I was facing many issues with all lollipop ROMs. Hence I reverted back and now everything is working fine.
I, too am using CM11s as Lollipop has too many bugs for me at this time. Maybe I'll try re-flashing CM and see what happens. Thanks for the reply
My question is: How can one flash from recovery when the file that needs to be flashed cannot be sent to the phone because it's not recognized by the computer?
Nevermind...I figured it out and flashed 11S successfully! Everything shows up now on computer. WOOT!
