Can't restore Lumia 710.....flashable ROM? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I forced 8107 onto my T-Mobile Lumia 710, and the light sensor doesn't seem to be working (screen doesn't brighten in direct sunlight), so I wanted to restore to my old point. The problem was, the only restore point I had was on my work machine. So I remoted in, downloaded DropBox to my work machine, made a zip of the backup from my work machine, and uploaded the zip to my DropBox account. When I moved the backup zip to my user/AppData/Microsoft/Local/... on my laptop Zune didn't recognize it as a backup and kept deleting it.
So I figured I would just wait and come to work to restore my backup and now my backup from WORK is deleted as well. I still have the file on my laptop at home, so at least I still have it.
My question is, is there a way I can use my restore point, or is there a flashable 7740 Stock ROM for the T-Mobile Lumia 710 I can use?

I believe the phone must have the primary sync relationship with the computer that you're trying to restore on. Sync the phone with the PC (and make it the primary PC) and then try copying in the restore point to the correct location (make sure it's the right location! You may need to close Zune before you can overwrite the folder that is automatically created when you sync the phone). Then, try restoring again. Ideally, you'd be able to Syn with Zune, copy over the restore point while Zune is running, and then go to Settings - Phone - Update and hit Restore.
For another way to restore the phone, try the following:
Disconnect from the PC and turn the phone off.
Press and hold the Camera button, then press Power. The phone should boot into the backup/update/recovery mode (mostly black and white).
On the PC, start Zune and copy the restore point. If you can't copy the restore point while Zune runs, close Zune, do the copy, and then start Zune again.
Connect the phone (still in recovery mode) to the PC (with Zune running) via USB.
Zune should prompt to restore the phone, tell it to do so.

updating rom ATT tilt connection error

just tried several times to update without success. I have Vista. My problem is not one I have read about yet.
I USB connect the phone and start the ROM program, as soon as I hit run on my laptop, I get the rainbow on my phone... but, as I progress through the steps my phone some how is dumping the USB connection. The wizard gets up to a point and keeps saying no connection. I go back to the laptop and check with the sync and it shows disconnected???

Try a different USB cable, make sure you have firm connections, then touch nothing until flash is complete or error message shows - don't even breathe on it, let alone move it an inch! I think the connection port is fragile or unreliable.
My Tilt has the same issue with my real PC and my Virtual Machine on my Mac (via Parallels). It just won't flash reliably.
I now flash from the MicroSD card. No problems at all doing that. Much faster too.

HardSPL loaded prior to 'imaging'?
I finally did it. Alls I had to do was uninstall active sync then reinstall it. Now when I try to restore via my storage car and sprite backup it tells me that "this back up file was not made on this device or operating system. Restoring from this file may cause significant problems. Do you wish too continue?" Not sure what to do. Anyone?

Yeah . . . you don't want to restore a backup from one ROM onto a new different ROM - it will make a big mess.
If you didn't sync your data with your PC before you flashed this new ROM, I would flash back to the original ROM and then restore your backup, do a sync to your PC, also copy \My Documents to your storage card, and also run dotFred's PIMBackup - you can use that to restore data from one ROM to another.
All of this has been discussed on the forums here before, so I would also suggest you do a lot more reading before embarking on ambitious but potentially dangerous things like flashing a new ROM as you are doing.
TY, for the heads up. I did do the sync. So contacts and such will be ok. Just have to redo my tweaks. Thanks. again for the advice.

Can't revert back to Nodo on VZW HTC Trophy

I have the Verizon HTC Trophy with mango beta 2, and I'm trying to go back to NoDo. When I click on my backup file, I get the error, "Error: The installed version of the tool (4.7.1404) needs to be updated to match the Zune version (4.8.2098). Please install the tool version 4.8.2098." When I go to the Zune settings, phone update, there is no restore option. Any suggestions?
I have had the same problem and I have figured out a way to get around it.
1. You have to uninstall the zune client.
2. Download the zune client 4.7.1404 I cant provide links cause it wont let me so you have to find it. google zune client 4.7.1404 download.
3. Make sure that your restore folder is in the c: Drive it will be named premangostate2
4. Install the 4.7.1404 without having the internet connected. Having the internet connected will update to a higher version.
5. Make a copy of the the contents inside this folder. (it will have a series of values) copy this folder to the the windows phone update folder. this folder will be in appdata/local/windows folder. If done correctly you will have 2 copies.
6. run the restore.bat file that should have came with the mango beta 2 update.
7. when asked to overwrite select yes.
8 This should restore your HTC Trophy back to the NODO so you can update your phone to Mango from your carrier.
I have tried everything around and this is the one that worked for me. I know you asked a bit ago but if anyone else needs this then they will find it by search.
If there is no windows phone update folder you may have to connect your phone or restart your computer.

Restore option not available

I want to restore my HD7 to older version (7720), but Zune is not showing restore.. Is there any other way for rollback??
Sent from my HD7 T9292 using Board Express
Hi,
sorry to hear that your Zune won't show your backup. This usually means, that it has been deleted.
Please do the following to be sure:
Ensure, that it is the same computer, from which you updated your phone. The backups are saved on your pc, nowhere else.
Ensure, that it is the same phone which has been connected to your pc and been updated. AFAIK Zune will only offer the backup to its original phone.
Look on your pc under %appdata%\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update if there are really no backups.
If you checked all those points, I'm afraid you cannot restore your backup since someone/something deleted your backup.
Greetings
relexx

Lessons You've Learned

So I thought it would be fun to compile a list of lessons you've learned while working with your smartphones, as I just had a doozy last night.
Updated my radio last night and forgot to remove the zip from my SD card root.
Flashed a fancy new ROM, and see that it was stuck in a boot loop.
Realize that I can't boot into Recovery because it tries to auto-load the radio update.
Go buy a card reader to delete the radio zip.
Realize that I can't remember the generated password for my new Windows 8 PC installation (live.com linked account -- had been using a password manager on my phone). Email associated with the account is a gmail account with an authenticator, and the backups stored on the PC... so no way to reset the password from a different computer since the authenticator was on the phone I just screwed up.
Dug up an old-ish linux gparted live cd, loaded it up, deleted the radio zip, booted the phone into recovery and restored a good rom.
Tried to restart the computer into Win8, only to realize I'd somehow managed to hose the installation with the live cd (maybe locked partition, dunno, wouldn't boot)... gave up and reformatted the Win8 machine.
So lessons learned:
1. Delete the radio file as soon as you're done with it.
2. Don't use a web-linked password for your home desktop pc.

Backing Up phone (incl. apps)

Yes, i know of titanium backup
however, i find it extremely cumbersome. especially for my nexus 5, where the backups will NOT show up in the folder when i connect it to my pc, although i created a folder in TB in a location visible on my pc.
anyway, i was wondering if there is an itunes-like program for windows that allows me to connect my phone to the pc and use that program backup everything, including apps, to the computer and restore when needed? does something like that exists?

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash or boot into TWRP recovery, it supports MTP.
This means if you are in TWRP recovery, you can view all /sdcard files on phone and backup any folder, including
Titanium Backup folder via windows explorer directly to PC.
Also, it is a good safety practice to make a full backup in TWRP. Again with the MTP capability of TWRP recovery , you can view and backup
the TWRP directory directly to PC via windows explorer.
Simple:good:
If you have any connection problems between PC and TWRP MTP, it is likely driver related.
You will need to look in Device manager on PC while phone is connected.
Download the howto_driver.zip from the "15 seconds ADB Installer thread" and follow the picture tutorial contained in the zip file. This should fix your connectivity issues.
If you are sill having connection issues, You could try and install ADB drivers . It might help the pc detect.

32bit
Then go back through the picture tutorial in the howto_driver.zip
Best of luck
Use Titanium Backup. But I prefer Helium
Use NexusRootToolkit. It is somewhere here on XDA. Cannot give you the link now, but search and you'll find it.

This is a problem with MTP not TiBu. Even on a good day, it's flaky.

Yes,
I meant to say In TWRP recovery, you can view all /sdcard files on phone.
Not all /Root files
You can also MPT from Android. But for me, transfer seem more reliable from TWRP.
