(Q) Which is the best Music Player for our Trannies? - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Got prompted to post this due to a line in one of the threads read recently.
"winamp is a battery hog"
So which one suits your needs?
To my way of thinking it is a "must" that is can read music and album art from the MicroSD
As nothing worst then having to reload music each time you flash a new rom. Plus not be a batt hog.
Personally at the moment I am using winamp pro, as I have been using it on the desktop for years
And old habits die hard..
But I do like the carousel of Google Music app. But I am finding it didn't play nice with the MicroSD pickup, and in that
It will only show a few albums.
Open to suggestions and comments on what others use.
So I hand the floor to other users to let us know their preferences.

It's a pun.. A bit of aussy humor..
As sometimes we are just a bit too serious on here..
Anyway..
Which do you listen to your tunes with?

My friend's music player he developed is pretty good, at least I think it is.
Has a lot of custom features and supported formats.
I use it mostly on my phone but works great on my transformer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gonemad.gmmp
Also on sale for April

I hate being "that guy" but if you do a quick search for "best music player" in this subforum you will find a few older threads discussing this. I think PowerAMP is pretty popular. I personally also like ³ ("cubed") which has pretty cool features. Then there's the N7 player which has a very unique UI. At the end of days it's a matter of preference

FC..
Understand the thought pattern..and search is a good thing.. also I did spend a good 10 mins scrolling back through posts..
but we also have come along way since some of those threads..
What I would like to know from music buffs is how is the batt life now on ICS with the new programs.
And which new ones haven hit the market that are better then a year ago..
So for my own experience. Today I did a road trip, had Winamp playing and teethering for about 6 hours..batt was down to about 44% by the end of it.

The PlayerPro is very good, and its reads the sdcard, i use ubermusic!

+1 i've tried a few but i keep returning to poweramp

EDIT: I am speaking solely from the standpoint of an audiophile.. if you prefer convenience and the ability to modify album art, id3tags, etc. then PowerAmp has proven to be a little better.. PlayerPro is good with the album art too.. possibly better.. imho it's a toss up between those two (PowerAmp and PlayerPro for music organization and customization).. if you only care about the actual music that is playing then Neutron is your friend.. it has professional grade 32-bit audio rendering.. and is really made for high end devices.. our "trannies" (still love that) would certainly meet those criteria..
Neutron MP hands down.. there is literally no comparison.. you might have to tweak it for a while, but it is unbelievable.. I will be in heaven when SuperCurio has Voodoo stable in ICS.. i might switch all of my audio work onto my tablet when Voodoo is ready..

Isn't Neutron amazing? I love it! It takes a while to get used to, but it is hands down the best player on the market.
As far as PC apps go, I love Foobar2000. It's another app that can take a long time to get used to, but you can do amazing things with it. Head-fi.org has some pretty good info on it as well as setups you can download.
Also, to compliment those apps, you need some good cans. I actually prefer earbuds, but the point is the same. I'm not sure how much money you have, but I will assume that you are like me and you like nice things, but don't necessarily love spending entire paychecks on them. To that end, here's a nice brand not many people know about for headphones - Nuforce (http://www.nuforce.com/hp/reviews-headphones.php). Grab a set of those (V-Moda and Shure are awesome too) and use them with Neutron or Foobar2000. You will hear sounds you never knew existed.
Cheers..

I just use Google's Play Music and stream from the cloud.

It's the best and should get advertised alot more people need to know about it!!
Also on the website it mentions 64-bit real time rendering aswell as the 32 but im guessing this is only for devices with neon???? Would love to have that on the tf but 32 is also great.
I did use Foobar2000 for awhile but the UI I just could not live with. I tried winamp meh wasn't that great then tried Music bee currently im on music bee because I cannot for the life of me find anything that sounds better with a nice UI.
I contemplated J-River and the J-Player plugin but could not justify the price of either.
I currently use a pair of sennheiser headphones and was considering a pair of klipsch headphones but they where to expensive for now.
Just had a look at the NE-700x Nuforce headphones and a couple reviews they seem like an amazing set for the price. Are these the ones you have?
Also there is only one distributor in NewZealand and his website does not show the 700's I will ask if he can import but if not I may have to ask you or someone else if I can send money for them plus shipping just to get them to my country.
EDIT: NZ IS USELESS!!!!!! I spoke to the nz importer who does not stock them
Thanks

I actually got mine from Amazon. I believe they come from NuForce, but Amazon ships them. They came pretty quickly too so I'm guessing Amazon keeps a couple laying around. And yes, I got the NE-700x. From what I hear they are all good though. They have a $25 pair on Amazon that are pretty good too.
Here's the 700x link:
http://www.amazon.com/NuForce-NE-70...NDDG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335582059&sr=8-1
And yeah, Foobar is not the greatest from a UI perspective. I have a bunch of sweet skins for it from deviantart. They actually do wonders for it. I love that player, but when I get a new laptop or new headphones I don't like spending hours tweaking everything so it's just right. There is literally too much you can do with it!
Anyway, good luck with the search and PM me if you need anything...
Cheers..

[Q] Gamepad solutions?

Since the Infuse has a beautiful 4.5" screen I figured it'd be perfect for emulators. While they seem to run very nicely, I know that i'm not the only one who completely HATES touch screen controls.
1) They're not super responsive
2) Your hand covers part of what you're playing, sometimes interfering
So has anyone found/come up with a solution for the Infuse that solves this problem?
I understand that the WiiMote apparently doesn't work on Samsung/HTC phones due to their bluetooth stack. I don't really care what the solution is, but has anyone found ANYTHING that is actually working for the Infuse yet?
Yes, I've researched the internet, both Google and XDA, and i've yet to see one instance of anything that works.
Wiimote that's funny, even though in works in some smartphone, I find it very weird if you're an adult. Just saying.
But anyway I think you need this, not a wii mote.

Your posts typically don't make sense anyways... "just saying"
I'm 24 and don't know many guys my age that don't enjoy starting up an emulator to play an old classic once in a while.
I would venture to guess that you are in the minority if you don't play games/emulators on your phone every once in a while.
I'm interested in any solutions you guys may find to this. I came from the Atrix and used my wiimote + classic controller a great deal. Not having it has stalled my emu gaming on my phone for the time being.
I do play games but I can't imagine playing games in Starbucks or some place where people can see you looking at the Infuse 4g screen and holding a wii remote!
I am just saying my take on this okay relax.

I've been back here a couple of times, but I didn't want to dignify your original answer for a response. While I appreciate the links you've provided, your idea that a "Wiimote" is not something very "adult" is asinine.
Studies show that the average age of a person who plays the Wii is 29 [LINK]
In fact, it's pretty much the opposite if you ask me... for some of us, emulators are the only way that we can play the games that we grew up playing. For example, my SNES broke about 3 years ago. I still own about 45-50 SNES games, but no way to play them, and I truly don't want to invest anything more than I have to for a system that will more than likely break, seeing as how nearly every SNES in existence is nearly 18 or so years old.
Do I understand that your idea that sitting at a Starbucks, playing an emulator with a Wiimote is "childish" looking? Sort of, but usually it draws attention in a positive manner when people see me playing games like FF on my Smartphone. They think it's kind of "cool" (not just children).
Again, I do appreciate the links you provided me, and I will definitely look into those as an option.
Lol......i agree with both of you..tech. Is fun,,and can be very dangerous to mankind..but for now its still fun to mess with that is until its used upon people wanting liberty and freedom...go to the market and download sniper vs sniper..i wanna shoot your assr
How about a reply to the question. There is an app on the market for bluetooth controllers. Search bluez ime. It supports zeemote, msi bgp-100, and icontrolpad. Look on amazon for the controllers. I have a bgp-100 works with FPSE which I highly reccomend from market. Icontrolpad would be the best option for emulators but it has a nasty price tag. If the silly ranting banter between people doesn't stop I will request the mod suspends posting for those that are not helpful on these forums. I hope this info helps you. PM me if you have any trouble.

Thanks for the response!
I would actually have no problem dropping $75 on the icontrolpad if i could just guarantee that it would work/fit my phone, but from what I understand it doesn't fit the larger screens.
I thought about buying the zeemote because it's very pocketable, but I don't know how good it would be with only one handed control, I don't think my years of game playing would allow that for games like NCAA for SNES.
I've also looked into the MSI controller, that's what i've been leaning towards. My only concern with that is that I have large hands, and I don't know how well I'd be able to grip it.
this may be a bit off topic as I am interested in finding a good controller as well since I also came from the atrix and loved the wiimote deal. What emulators are you currently using, the ones I paid for are gone. I see a bunch of new ones but hope you might give me some insight as to what you use. I will also continue to look for options and if I find anything of value I will be sure to post.
Go to youtube and try to find a video of a guy modding the MSI controller. I believe he removed the internals and inserted them into an old SNES controller. Also, if you choose to try the icontrolpad, you don't have to mount your device in it, you can use it just like you would the MSI controller. Hurry, icontrolpad is on sale for $50, sale ends today supposedly! FPSE is the best emulator in my opinion.
Waiting for a good solution..

Wiimotes and sixaxiscontroller will only work with CM7 and derivatives (like MIUI). Not with anything Samsung-derived.
If you can deal with a few bugs and want all the cool features of a pure Google experience and want to use wiimotes then CM7 is recommended.

well i just bought this. I dont know when it'll come in but according to all reviews and information this is a gem.
- based off of ps3 controller (looks like they just stole the ps3 controller and modded it)
- runs on regular samsung/htc stock firmware (no need to root or change anything)
- FPSE support, old emulator support (snesoid, gensoid, etc)
Description from their own website below:
They are using the standard Bluetooth protocol RFCOMM which unlike the L2CAP protocol (which is used by Playstation 3 controllers for instance) can be used in theory with any mobilephone that supports Bluetooth. This means that even Samsung and HTC devices running their stock rom support Phonejoys.
Furthermore no root is required. To use Phonejoy all you need is to download "Bluez-IME" from the Android app market or go to the developer site here.
The gamepad comes with the standard 14 Buttons (D-PAD, Select, Start, Cross, Triangle, Square, Circle, L1, R1, L2, R2) just like the original Playstation controller. The Phonejoy response without any noticeable delay, and range can be depending on your device up to 2m / 6ft. Every Phonejoy comes with an internal Lithium-ion battery which can be charged through the supplied miniUSB cable. The battery usually lasts several days of moderate gaming.
On top of that the controller is supplied with a stand which can be used to hold your mobile phone. For Tablets we recommend buying a bigger and sturdier stand.
For further setup instructions please head to the "Instructions" page. Bluez-IME allows a gamepad experience with all apps that support Android's Input Method Editor (IME). Working apps include the emulators FPSE, PSX4Droid, SNESoid, Gameboid, GBCoid, NESoid, N64oid, Gearoid, Gensoid, and various Android games such as Zenonia I, Zenonia II, Samurai II: Vengeance and Illusia. Bluez-IME can also emulate Xperia Play's gamepad controls which should grant Phonejoy access for more than 150 Xperia Play supported games.
after shipping and price of the unit, 50USD

[Q] Do you use your Charge as an MP3 player?

I just wanted to get the idea of how many people use their phone as their MP3 player. I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen (32GB) that I am thinking about selling, I haven't used it since I got my phone. The Touch is still a pretty powerful device to me and not sure if I want to let it go (I put it on craigslist for $130 and have been getting replies out the y-zoo).
It's def my portable mp3 player. I don't have a touch mp3. I have a shuffle and an old samba. Both are never used now. It would be nice to have a second device so I can let my wife FB and Angry birds on her own device. I am assuming one can do that with the touch. But if you have no need and have room for cash in your pocket maybe selling is the right choice. Good luck.
Ive been using my phone as an MP3 for years. i remember when I had a razr i would have the phone, an mp3 and a pda to lug around, NO MORE!
If you would like to dedicate your phone to music I would suggest UberMusic from the guy who made Launcher Pro. Its got a great Metro skin that makes it look and act like a zune.
I use my smartphone as an mp3 player. I don't have an iPod, and see no reason for one. My daughters on the other hand, have both, smartphones & iPod Touches. They carry both devices everywhere. Kids.
I said bye bye to MP3 players when I got my first smartphone.

I definitely use my phone as a mp3 player. With Google Music and my 32 gig memory card, I basically have more available music than I know what to do with.

Make that +2.
Absolutely.
Napster was one of the main reasons I moved to Android. LTE + Napster is fantastic.
I would like to. But, unfortunately, the head unit in my car does not recognize my phone as a storage device.
If I could get my phone to do that, I would have no use for my iPod touch.

Android device as a PMP?

Anyone got a suggestion on some good android phones I could look up ebay/craigslist to use as a PMP?
My budget is $100 or so, and I realize I won't get top of the line, but used is fine.
A used Optimus One on various prepaids seems to go for $40-$50, so I'm hoping for something that has a tad better spec.
Pick up a used vibrant and enjoy awesome sound quality with a voodoo sound kernel.. Can be bought for like 125 if you catch a deal.

There's a Samsung Galaxy media player...but it's a bit pricier.
Does it have to be a phone?
Why not just buy a PMP? Where's the necessity that it be Android?
If you looked hard enough, you could probably find a Philips for that price, especially if you're willing to buy used.
But my thoughts are, well, if it doesn't need phoning capabilities, you could probably get more GB for your buck.

You would think, but it's not true. Most MP3 players in the $50 dollar range suck.
Also the galaxy players are, as you saw - pricey. I'm looking for something cheap.
And I want it to be an android because I have a galaxy nexus, so I own paid apps that I could use on it as well.
I found a galaxy S for $65 on craigslist, seems like a pretty good deal as long the phone isn't in terrible condition.

Sounds like you could just use your Nex, but instead you'll then be carrying around a lot of extra functionality (carrying a Nexus around to be used as a phone/surfer and another Andy as a PMP), but I'm not one to judge. To each his own. If it were me, I'd buy another battery for the Nex and use the sh*t out of that! The PPI-count on that thing is sensational!!
An HTC HD2 may be just the device for you, but scoring one for a C-note will be a challange, I'd bet. Hack Android onto it, and BAAAAMMM!!
don't get htc, the audio sucks, even on beats models
(sucks in a comparative sense, not subjective)

The sound on the HD2 sucks. Even with decent headphones. It's not bad over BT stereo, though, considering how bad BT stereo is to begin with. I'm not really an Apple fan, but the iPod Classics have a tremendous sound and enormous capacity. I use a 160GB iPod to tote around a chunk of my collection. The built in EQ is pretty handy as well. You can pick them up used for less than $100 also.
Well I picked up a bootlooping galaxy S for $40. Hopefully I can get it working
The stock recovery was corrupted so the volume keys weren't working.
Oh yeh, got me a working galaxy S! Sure beats any $40 PMP out there!

S2 just lying around

I got a s3 for christmas so I got a bonus s2 doing nothing. can anyone think of something cool to do with it? Like set it up as something a server of some kind or I dunno give me a idea?
Or is there a reason to keep it beside for testing new apps and roms... what about a good place to sell it ? I dunno I got no clue I tried already
one though was to use it to download torrents all day so i don't gotta leave my computer on... I have a wd live media center maybe something combined with it?
You could mail it over to me
Use it as a music player.
get an mhl adapter and hook it up to a tv and use it as a upnp server/client through WiFi (media, music, pics etc...). so you could stream media FROM it to a tablet or u could install xbmc and stream content from your computer TO IT, and use it for watching movies wirelessly as an entertainment device.
Setting up a vnc server on the phone and leaving it running opens a TON of possibilities. You could then dial in from your computer remotely and do anything. A torrent server as you said would be really easy this way, as well as an ftp/http/ssh server.
using it as a portable hotspot
testing out ROMs and experimental stuff for devs, so if u bricked it its not a big deal
gaming device, again by hooking it up to TV and using a Bluetooth gamepad or keyboard, surfing the net would also be easy this way
donate it to a high profile dev get some more custom ROM love.

I have a chance to get an S3 (trade for an iPad 4) and would then sell my S2. I do love my S2 though.
Since you've upgraded, can you tell me is there a bid difference in speed, options, etc with the S3? I'd hate to make the switch only to find there's not much I've gained. If that's the case I'd just sell the ipad and keep the S2.
Hope you can provide an opinion. If the s3 is MUCH better than the Skyrocket... I want it
Thanks for any advice!

The s3 is not faster or better than the skyrocket. I have played around with one many times and I'll take the Pepsi challenge with my little skyrocket. The s3 has potential but it's prior tickets have just as much spunk. With the recent devs we have had it gives our little device life. Wait for the s4

Would you recommend the tab 2 7"or the nexus 7?

I'm in the market for a 7 inch tablet. I've narrowed it down between the two. I've done a lot of research, and wanted to know your opinion. I know the nexus has the better processor, better resolution, and better os support. It doesn't have an ir blaster. I want to be able to use it to control my home entertainment setup. Does it work will with the tab 2? Thoughts?

I had this same question when these were still new. I chose the Gtab2 based on local availability and the included SDcard slot. I probably should have purchased the Nexus based off of better overall hardware and "real" updates. Touch Wiz blows and I got rid of it almost right away. Which then rendered the ir blaster worthless which actually worked well for me with the Peal app. There are some Roms available that have been customized and still have a functioning IR blaster but I haven't tried those yet and from what I've seen probably won't.
With that being said, I don't pay any attention to what is thought of being obsolete. Everything I own is obsolete. I'm sure its the same with most people. In spite of my growing annoyance with Android in general I'd say that my GTab2 running PacRom 4.2.2 is going quite well.
Gotta choose what fits your needs. There's enough differences between the two tabs that makes this decision a no brainer once you decide what your device needs to do. Now you got me thinking I may go buy a Nexus 7 and flash this tab back to stock to use as just a remote and maybe some lite surfing. With my theatre setup Peel can eliminate 5 remotes just in one room

Thank you for your input. I know the nexus is probably the better choice as far as hardware goes, but I really want the ir blaster to control my living room. I already have a Logitech harmony to control, but I think a tablet would be much cooler, and more practical. I have a lot of components (computer, ps3, cable, network receiver, and a Wii) I hate touchwiz, but there are other launchers I can use. Does the tab 2 work as a remote well? Can you program it to do one touch commands? (As in hit one button, and have all the associated peripherals turn on and to the correct input)?

I wish I could give you more info on Peel. But I didn't spend much time with it. Day one while I was getting familiar with the tab I had only gone as far as getting everything to turn on and off. I was impressed with that because many reviews complained that the app didn't support the equipment they had but it seemed to support everything I have which is a mix of brands and quality levels. With that being said I don't remember having any issues using it as a remote. Not like some I've had years ago that need to be aimed like shooting at a target and I do remember being able to turn on all my gear with one button. Except the PS3. For the PS3 I used an app called BlueputDroid which turns your device into a keyboard or six axis controller.
I agree a tablet makes for one cool remote control but unlike most remotes you will need a outlet handy. Still very much worth it by getting rid of multiple remotes or at least being able go hide them away for all but the most rarely used functions. Keep in mind the device is not pretty but its not ugly either. The screen isn't going to blow you away but it won't make you want to puke. It won't win any benchmarks but it seems to handle everything I throw at it.

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I have it setup to control most of my components, but I still need to play with the settings. I'm not really impressed yet with the peel app, but I haven't given it enough time to figure it out. The tab 2 is a little sluggish, but nothing a root and custom rom can't fix. That's next on the list. I really appreciate your comments though.

Very few custom ROMs support ir blaster, I've found that the ones that do are more buggy than stock, which is what they are based off. To be honest, i also wasn't impressed with peel, always had issues, so i haven't been on stock or stock based in som e time.

i haven't experienced Nexus 7, my girlfriend got me my Galaxy Tab 2. i must say that i've spent literally hours and hours of my life with this sh*t.
do not waste your time and money, get the Nexus 32gb and do not deal with this microSd slot ****.
first it wouldn't let you use the 32Gb for everything, so you have to do a "swap" so you can install stuf in the microSD, then the frkn sh*t has ****ed up 2 microSD's, (the 2nd one today) i won't get a nother from the store because i lied the first time saying that it wasn't working from the begining and it would be suspicious to think that i got 2 bad microSD's from factory in less than a month.
so now i must get another one :S!
do not waste your time, nexus is the one.
Home entertainment set up is better with the GTab 2 but otherwise N7 is the better one.
When it comes to quality apps and smoothness I can't recommend any of todays android tablets.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I'm not disappointed with my purchase. I knew it's not the fastest out there, but it serves it's purpose. I'm still not impressed with the remote feature. Peel just doesn't do what I want. I'd like to be able to set it up like my Logitech harmony, so one button will turn on everything to the correct input. It does this for cable tv, but I'd like it to setup all the correct inputs for my ps3, computer, and Wii. Plus, I'd like an on screen remote, not just buttons with pictures of tv shows. Can anyone recommend a better app?
Also, I also rooted, and thinking about installing the latest sungsonic, but will it stop the ir blaster from working? I know most rom's do.

There are other remote apps, but i think they cost around 50 or so, and i have never used one, perhaps someone else on here has. I wanna say someone said they liked it better, but it may have been another forum.
Just looked it up, its Samsung remote touchsquid, or something along those lines. Either way, that's a hearty price.

Edit: yeah it does stop it. Tab2lite, and at least one of the newer stockRoms has an it add-on. Sorry, i forgot what its called.

I think it's too late, I recommend you to wait to the tab 3 and the next generation of the nexus 7

I was considering either the nexus 7 or tab 2 also after my kindle fire broke about 2 months ago. I ended up choosing the galaxy tab 2 due to the sd card slot, the rear camera, and the ir blaster. I personally love it and it is working great. I mainly use it for gaming, music, and youtube and it handle all of those tasks great. I love how i can store my music on an sd card which allows me to have more storage space for apps and games. It plays all the games i have tried great ( which include gta 3, dead trigger, survivalcraft, scribblenauts, mini motor racing, riptide gp, and star wars pinball, which are fairly demanding games) and video playback is great. The peel app works great and is easy to pair with your home entertainment system. With all these features and good performance i dont see the need to get a nexus 7 and i would definietly recommend the galaxy tab 2.
The tab 2 is also $20 cheaper than the nexus at the moment at $179.

The more and more I use the tab 2, the more I love it. I really appreciate the touch squid app suggestion. I have the demo downloaded, and so far, it's working great. I also have my receiver (which is network capable) setup with my tab, so I can stream pandora anywhere in the house, and have full control without being in that room. I'm currently installing zone 2 speakers outside in my patio area. Anyway, 50 bucks to spend on a remote app is a little much, but if there isn't anything else that is better, I might just bite the bullet. I'm still searching, but if anyone else has any other programs they want to suggest, I'd love to hear it.
Another side question, I know you guys said most of the roms break the ir blaster. Any way I can tell which ones will break it? I'm rooted and itching to flash one, but I need the ir blaster.

Tab2lite and microdelta(maybe haven't tested it) are the only jelly bean roms , that i know of, that have ir support. There may be some ICS stock ROMs, not sure. Personally, i would suggest trying microdelta if it works, because tab2lite is based on an early leek and was slower than stock, for me anyways.
