[Q] Gamepad solutions? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Since the Infuse has a beautiful 4.5" screen I figured it'd be perfect for emulators. While they seem to run very nicely, I know that i'm not the only one who completely HATES touch screen controls.
1) They're not super responsive
2) Your hand covers part of what you're playing, sometimes interfering
So has anyone found/come up with a solution for the Infuse that solves this problem?
I understand that the WiiMote apparently doesn't work on Samsung/HTC phones due to their bluetooth stack. I don't really care what the solution is, but has anyone found ANYTHING that is actually working for the Infuse yet?
Yes, I've researched the internet, both Google and XDA, and i've yet to see one instance of anything that works.

Wiimote that's funny, even though in works in some smartphone, I find it very weird if you're an adult. Just saying.
But anyway I think you need this, not a wii mote.

Your posts typically don't make sense anyways... "just saying"
I'm 24 and don't know many guys my age that don't enjoy starting up an emulator to play an old classic once in a while.
I would venture to guess that you are in the minority if you don't play games/emulators on your phone every once in a while.
I'm interested in any solutions you guys may find to this. I came from the Atrix and used my wiimote + classic controller a great deal. Not having it has stalled my emu gaming on my phone for the time being.

I do play games but I can't imagine playing games in Starbucks or some place where people can see you looking at the Infuse 4g screen and holding a wii remote!
I am just saying my take on this okay relax.

I've been back here a couple of times, but I didn't want to dignify your original answer for a response. While I appreciate the links you've provided, your idea that a "Wiimote" is not something very "adult" is asinine.
Studies show that the average age of a person who plays the Wii is 29 [LINK]
In fact, it's pretty much the opposite if you ask me... for some of us, emulators are the only way that we can play the games that we grew up playing. For example, my SNES broke about 3 years ago. I still own about 45-50 SNES games, but no way to play them, and I truly don't want to invest anything more than I have to for a system that will more than likely break, seeing as how nearly every SNES in existence is nearly 18 or so years old.
Do I understand that your idea that sitting at a Starbucks, playing an emulator with a Wiimote is "childish" looking? Sort of, but usually it draws attention in a positive manner when people see me playing games like FF on my Smartphone. They think it's kind of "cool" (not just children).
Again, I do appreciate the links you provided me, and I will definitely look into those as an option.

Lol......i agree with both of you..tech. Is fun,,and can be very dangerous to mankind..but for now its still fun to mess with that is until its used upon people wanting liberty and freedom...go to the market and download sniper vs sniper..i wanna shoot your assr

How about a reply to the question. There is an app on the market for bluetooth controllers. Search bluez ime. It supports zeemote, msi bgp-100, and icontrolpad. Look on amazon for the controllers. I have a bgp-100 works with FPSE which I highly reccomend from market. Icontrolpad would be the best option for emulators but it has a nasty price tag. If the silly ranting banter between people doesn't stop I will request the mod suspends posting for those that are not helpful on these forums. I hope this info helps you. PM me if you have any trouble.

Thanks for the response!
I would actually have no problem dropping $75 on the icontrolpad if i could just guarantee that it would work/fit my phone, but from what I understand it doesn't fit the larger screens.
I thought about buying the zeemote because it's very pocketable, but I don't know how good it would be with only one handed control, I don't think my years of game playing would allow that for games like NCAA for SNES.
I've also looked into the MSI controller, that's what i've been leaning towards. My only concern with that is that I have large hands, and I don't know how well I'd be able to grip it.

this may be a bit off topic as I am interested in finding a good controller as well since I also came from the atrix and loved the wiimote deal. What emulators are you currently using, the ones I paid for are gone. I see a bunch of new ones but hope you might give me some insight as to what you use. I will also continue to look for options and if I find anything of value I will be sure to post.

Go to youtube and try to find a video of a guy modding the MSI controller. I believe he removed the internals and inserted them into an old SNES controller. Also, if you choose to try the icontrolpad, you don't have to mount your device in it, you can use it just like you would the MSI controller. Hurry, icontrolpad is on sale for $50, sale ends today supposedly! FPSE is the best emulator in my opinion.

Waiting for a good solution..

Wiimotes and sixaxiscontroller will only work with CM7 and derivatives (like MIUI). Not with anything Samsung-derived.

If you can deal with a few bugs and want all the cool features of a pure Google experience and want to use wiimotes then CM7 is recommended.

well i just bought this. I dont know when it'll come in but according to all reviews and information this is a gem.
- based off of ps3 controller (looks like they just stole the ps3 controller and modded it)
- runs on regular samsung/htc stock firmware (no need to root or change anything)
- FPSE support, old emulator support (snesoid, gensoid, etc)
Description from their own website below:
They are using the standard Bluetooth protocol RFCOMM which unlike the L2CAP protocol (which is used by Playstation 3 controllers for instance) can be used in theory with any mobilephone that supports Bluetooth. This means that even Samsung and HTC devices running their stock rom support Phonejoys.
Furthermore no root is required. To use Phonejoy all you need is to download "Bluez-IME" from the Android app market or go to the developer site here.
The gamepad comes with the standard 14 Buttons (D-PAD, Select, Start, Cross, Triangle, Square, Circle, L1, R1, L2, R2) just like the original Playstation controller. The Phonejoy response without any noticeable delay, and range can be depending on your device up to 2m / 6ft. Every Phonejoy comes with an internal Lithium-ion battery which can be charged through the supplied miniUSB cable. The battery usually lasts several days of moderate gaming.
On top of that the controller is supplied with a stand which can be used to hold your mobile phone. For Tablets we recommend buying a bigger and sturdier stand.
For further setup instructions please head to the "Instructions" page. Bluez-IME allows a gamepad experience with all apps that support Android's Input Method Editor (IME). Working apps include the emulators FPSE, PSX4Droid, SNESoid, Gameboid, GBCoid, NESoid, N64oid, Gearoid, Gensoid, and various Android games such as Zenonia I, Zenonia II, Samurai II: Vengeance and Illusia. Bluez-IME can also emulate Xperia Play's gamepad controls which should grant Phonejoy access for more than 150 Xperia Play supported games.
after shipping and price of the unit, 50USD

please, do share how you managed to do it when no one else has.
from what i've heard so far, you cant use the wiimote as it uses the old bluetooth 2, while the sgs uses the newer bluetooth 3
But if you've found a way, do share
There are a fair few controller threads around identical to this.
The ZeeMote is rumored to work with the SGS and looks like a nice option.
MyMemory.co.uk are selling them for £11.99 but are out of stock.
Some guy on the 'android modaco' forum bought one and is trying it tonight. I cant post a link to the thread but if you Google 'zeemote samsung galaxy s' you should see it in the hits.
Aside from that, you could wait for the new update and see if Samsung have included support in their Froyo release for HID devices so you could use a WiiMote.
I'm the guy with one at Modaco, already had it actually. You can get 'em really quite cheaply, finish my night shift in a few hours so will give it a crack then.
I'm really waiting for the cyanogenmod ROM for our Galaxy S (they have announced they are working on it), then I'll be able to use my Datel Bluetooth Wireless Wii Classic Controller for emulators, which is quite a bit better than the Zeemote.
That would be great. I have tried playing games using the on screen controls but it just doesn't work. Without a physical control to feel my finger keeps drifting into no mans land. And besides, why would you want to obstruct one of the best features of thee phone, why?

what do you mean by controller. as in emulating the keyboard/mouse functions or are you saying Remote Play client app?
my answer would be a yes in both regards. and like above poster, max $3. its a niche app.
Yeah if your talking about letting us pair a ps3 controller with the phone, hell yeah I'd buy!

im talking about for emulators mostly like ps1 snes genesis what ever pretty much
if i was going to pay for it, it should have full analog controls too not the emulated like the wii controller app. some games need to beable to use the full analog stick not just on or off like emulating a keyboard
thanks xargon il make sure thats a priority!

Ditto. I have a Bluetooth gamepad now that emulates a WiiMote. It has analog joysticks but they only emulate up/down/left/right.

Really looking forward to this, I hope you are still working on it. I'd pay $5 easily for it if it works well.
Seems like a paid application would quickly become irrelevant. Almost not worth the effort to even start, considering that support is already present in Android 3.1 kernel
You'd be better off trying to backport that.
yes but not all phones have the ability to have a controller plugged into it this seems like it would be a bluetooth deal.

No it's because you don't have an android phone

PSA: Xperia Play's game library has grown over 200% since my review.

So the biggest request I've received since I started xperiaplaygamer is a sort-by date option. Putting that system into place would be easy...hunting down release dates for 367 games, however, would be a nightmare
On an insane little whim, I decided to see what all related info I had to see if I could turn this request into a reality.
While doing so, I noticed that my Xperia Play review (from November '11) noted 173 games under Xperia Play's belt. Then I had a major "holy crap!" moment. Between then and now; not only did Xperia Play's library do more than double, it jumped 6 shy of 200 games! While these are typical numbers for the smartphone app scene, this figure is not typical for the higher tier of smartphone gaming where physical gamepads come into play. While they'd solve a ton of problems, most gamepad solutions get ignored so badly that they fall into the "Totally goddamned useless outside of emulation" pit of oblivion.
...and through some form of psychotic paradox (that I can't even make sense of), Xperia Play manages to not only have quantity, but has a breathtaking 334 out of 367 games scoring between 70%-100% (going by Google Play Store ratings, of course).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's not been a single gaming handheld released in history that lasted over a year and had positive reception on 91% of it's entire library - that in itself may be even wilder than the near 200 game growth!
Just sharing the tidbits of optimism & good news

You're right all over the place. This device just feels brand new, I mean... It replaced ALL my mobile gaming. I mean all of it. Accounting for the fact that I also love emulation... Anyway, I think it could be put actually above other portable consoles. All of this without even considering the smartphone functionalities. As soon as I heard it coming out, I knew it was gonna be mindblowing. But now this much. I mean, we will probably get Aralon. That's not something you're going to find on portable consoles so easily.

Hardly consider it a failure , its the definition of a NICHE device and YET , its still getting tons of support from the indie devs and even big publishers like Gameloft and Rockstar. Not to mention that with GameKeyboard , the library is even bigger.

I'm trying not to accept this, but it really has. My PSP and DS are long gone, and after all that hyping up I did for the PSVita, it's been taking a backseat to my Xperia Play just because Xperia Play offers so much more! PSVita has one online shooter and one online RPG and... well... they're both fairly terrible compared to what we have on Xperia Play.

Also very true... I remember back when Aralon first got it's release and PSP owners (myself included) dropped our jaws because we not only had nothing of that caliber, but no open-world adventure RPGs whatsoever... Aralon wouldn't even be the first of that genre for Xperia Play :\
I also see myself sticking around for the long haul 'til we see something that can truly replace everything Xperia Play brings to the table.

I can relate to this, I left my PSP all alone since I bought the Play, I only use it to play Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, my NDS is next to my PSP without use too.

Would you recommend the tab 2 7"or the nexus 7?

I'm in the market for a 7 inch tablet. I've narrowed it down between the two. I've done a lot of research, and wanted to know your opinion. I know the nexus has the better processor, better resolution, and better os support. It doesn't have an ir blaster. I want to be able to use it to control my home entertainment setup. Does it work will with the tab 2? Thoughts?

I had this same question when these were still new. I chose the Gtab2 based on local availability and the included SDcard slot. I probably should have purchased the Nexus based off of better overall hardware and "real" updates. Touch Wiz blows and I got rid of it almost right away. Which then rendered the ir blaster worthless which actually worked well for me with the Peal app. There are some Roms available that have been customized and still have a functioning IR blaster but I haven't tried those yet and from what I've seen probably won't.
With that being said, I don't pay any attention to what is thought of being obsolete. Everything I own is obsolete. I'm sure its the same with most people. In spite of my growing annoyance with Android in general I'd say that my GTab2 running PacRom 4.2.2 is going quite well.
Gotta choose what fits your needs. There's enough differences between the two tabs that makes this decision a no brainer once you decide what your device needs to do. Now you got me thinking I may go buy a Nexus 7 and flash this tab back to stock to use as just a remote and maybe some lite surfing. With my theatre setup Peel can eliminate 5 remotes just in one room

Thank you for your input. I know the nexus is probably the better choice as far as hardware goes, but I really want the ir blaster to control my living room. I already have a Logitech harmony to control, but I think a tablet would be much cooler, and more practical. I have a lot of components (computer, ps3, cable, network receiver, and a Wii) I hate touchwiz, but there are other launchers I can use. Does the tab 2 work as a remote well? Can you program it to do one touch commands? (As in hit one button, and have all the associated peripherals turn on and to the correct input)?

I wish I could give you more info on Peel. But I didn't spend much time with it. Day one while I was getting familiar with the tab I had only gone as far as getting everything to turn on and off. I was impressed with that because many reviews complained that the app didn't support the equipment they had but it seemed to support everything I have which is a mix of brands and quality levels. With that being said I don't remember having any issues using it as a remote. Not like some I've had years ago that need to be aimed like shooting at a target and I do remember being able to turn on all my gear with one button. Except the PS3. For the PS3 I used an app called BlueputDroid which turns your device into a keyboard or six axis controller.
I agree a tablet makes for one cool remote control but unlike most remotes you will need a outlet handy. Still very much worth it by getting rid of multiple remotes or at least being able go hide them away for all but the most rarely used functions. Keep in mind the device is not pretty but its not ugly either. The screen isn't going to blow you away but it won't make you want to puke. It won't win any benchmarks but it seems to handle everything I throw at it.

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I have it setup to control most of my components, but I still need to play with the settings. I'm not really impressed yet with the peel app, but I haven't given it enough time to figure it out. The tab 2 is a little sluggish, but nothing a root and custom rom can't fix. That's next on the list. I really appreciate your comments though.

Very few custom ROMs support ir blaster, I've found that the ones that do are more buggy than stock, which is what they are based off. To be honest, i also wasn't impressed with peel, always had issues, so i haven't been on stock or stock based in som e time.

i haven't experienced Nexus 7, my girlfriend got me my Galaxy Tab 2. i must say that i've spent literally hours and hours of my life with this sh*t.
do not waste your time and money, get the Nexus 32gb and do not deal with this microSd slot ****.
first it wouldn't let you use the 32Gb for everything, so you have to do a "swap" so you can install stuf in the microSD, then the frkn sh*t has ****ed up 2 microSD's, (the 2nd one today) i won't get a nother from the store because i lied the first time saying that it wasn't working from the begining and it would be suspicious to think that i got 2 bad microSD's from factory in less than a month.
so now i must get another one :S!
do not waste your time, nexus is the one.
Home entertainment set up is better with the GTab 2 but otherwise N7 is the better one.
When it comes to quality apps and smoothness I can't recommend any of todays android tablets.
Thanks for all the input. I appreciate it. I'm not disappointed with my purchase. I knew it's not the fastest out there, but it serves it's purpose. I'm still not impressed with the remote feature. Peel just doesn't do what I want. I'd like to be able to set it up like my Logitech harmony, so one button will turn on everything to the correct input. It does this for cable tv, but I'd like it to setup all the correct inputs for my ps3, computer, and Wii. Plus, I'd like an on screen remote, not just buttons with pictures of tv shows. Can anyone recommend a better app?
Also, I also rooted, and thinking about installing the latest sungsonic, but will it stop the ir blaster from working? I know most rom's do.

There are other remote apps, but i think they cost around 50 or so, and i have never used one, perhaps someone else on here has. I wanna say someone said they liked it better, but it may have been another forum.
Just looked it up, its Samsung remote touchsquid, or something along those lines. Either way, that's a hearty price.

Edit: yeah it does stop it. Tab2lite, and at least one of the newer stockRoms has an it add-on. Sorry, i forgot what its called.

Thoughts?

I think it's too late, I recommend you to wait to the tab 3 and the next generation of the nexus 7

I was considering either the nexus 7 or tab 2 also after my kindle fire broke about 2 months ago. I ended up choosing the galaxy tab 2 due to the sd card slot, the rear camera, and the ir blaster. I personally love it and it is working great. I mainly use it for gaming, music, and youtube and it handle all of those tasks great. I love how i can store my music on an sd card which allows me to have more storage space for apps and games. It plays all the games i have tried great ( which include gta 3, dead trigger, survivalcraft, scribblenauts, mini motor racing, riptide gp, and star wars pinball, which are fairly demanding games) and video playback is great. The peel app works great and is easy to pair with your home entertainment system. With all these features and good performance i dont see the need to get a nexus 7 and i would definietly recommend the galaxy tab 2.
The tab 2 is also $20 cheaper than the nexus at the moment at $179.

The more and more I use the tab 2, the more I love it. I really appreciate the touch squid app suggestion. I have the demo downloaded, and so far, it's working great. I also have my receiver (which is network capable) setup with my tab, so I can stream pandora anywhere in the house, and have full control without being in that room. I'm currently installing zone 2 speakers outside in my patio area. Anyway, 50 bucks to spend on a remote app is a little much, but if there isn't anything else that is better, I might just bite the bullet. I'm still searching, but if anyone else has any other programs they want to suggest, I'd love to hear it.
Another side question, I know you guys said most of the roms break the ir blaster. Any way I can tell which ones will break it? I'm rooted and itching to flash one, but I need the ir blaster.

Tab2lite and microdelta(maybe haven't tested it) are the only jelly bean roms , that i know of, that have ir support. There may be some ICS stock ROMs, not sure. Personally, i would suggest trying microdelta if it works, because tab2lite is based on an early leek and was slower than stock, for me anyways.
