I've just won a used HTC Sensation z710a (Bell) on eBay! I've been using an Acer Liquid E for 1.5 years, so I've never had to deal with any of this confusion with these "submodels".
As I understand it, the T-Mobile phone is the z710e, and the Bell one is the z710a, and these phones are exactly the same except for the HSDPA frequencies. Are there certain mods that can only be used with one submodel and not the other? I'd love a specific answer for each of ROMs, kernels, radios, etc.
I've also seen some posts about "firmware". With respect to the Sensation (and maybe all Android phones), is this referring to something different than the ROM? If so, again, is it submodel-specific?
If the answer to the above Q's is NO (i.e., z710a vs. z710e doesn't matter), what about mods for the Sensation XE?
Thanks for the help!
Edit: I know about SuperCID, I'm asking if there'll be any problems even with SuperCID.

From what I have found here on the forums, no, there is no submodel specifc ROMS etc. like what you are worried about. There are differences between the sensation and the sensation xe, but only in terms of ROMS.

Firmware is what is used to run the ROMS if you want to put it that way. The latest version of android - Icecream sandwich (ICS) - requires certain firmware to run, a different firmware to gingerbread. Firmware is dependant on your CID, not model, but if you're super CID'd then any 3.32 firmware will do.

ROMS can be based on the Sensation or the Sensation XE. The only difference is the XE has beats audio and runs it's cpu at 1.5GHz, while the non-XE at 1.2GHz.
Custom ROMS however give you the choice of running your cpu at 1.5 if you want, even on a standard sensation device (as the cpu chips are exactly the same). Mods and other themes are based on the ROM you chose to install (i.e. ARHD or Insertcoin), not hardware as there is no real difference between xe and non-xe devices.
I have a standard sensation running an xe version of ARHD 6.5.5. with my cpu at 1.5GHz. no problems to report yet, so i can assume you're good to go!
Thanks for all the info!

Yeaahhh Super Mods!!!
very good for a XE Forum!!!Thanks XDA are the best!!!
It's not good idea, imo it's just making life harder for developers. Both devices are nearly the same, using the same ROM's. XE can flash regular Sensation ROM and regular Sensation can flash XE ROM. Those devices are the same, why subforum?
Not sure of this sub forum, surley XE roms will work on my normal Sensation. Well they have so far, so why the seperate forum
Is this really necessary? Same Hardware, just no OC für XE ROMs...
Wo should post in this subforum? You could post everything in both development forums, so this may be obsolete?

Well...imo maybe not totally bad idea though. We can write something here to tell XE owners to go to the regular Sensation thread. After checking this sub forum then they know where to go.
I guess it would be better to rename Sensation Android Development forum to something like " Sensation and Sensation XE Android development". No need to create separate subforum as both devices are the same and can run the same ROMs.
lol.. Its like separating twins from dinner table... Its gonna cause more confusion especially for newbies...
Forum will now become flooded with posts like " will it work on Sensation?", "will it work on XE?"
Not at all a good idea...

+1 for both
And this is why devs are flocking from xda...
Well I think its a good Idea, Im not sure what roms etc work with the XE so would rather know by having a section dedicated to the XE. I see were your comming from with the sensation / XE being almost the same but they are not, So IMHO this is a better Idea

that may be so,
but when your running an XE like me, the flashable roms like insertcoin/arhd have no real improvement over the stock xe rom (comparing to the normal sensation) apm and theming aside.
looks like rehab 4 me since i gaven my DZ away, just waiting for the nightlies to kick off..
I can understand a sensation xl or subsection, but an XE subsection? They have the exact hardware minus the beats audio, underclocked processor on the sensation, and the red XE case. Makes no sense.
Which ROM is the bes for XE do you think? I prefer Energy and Revolution HD.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one that mixes-up German and English sometimes. ^^

+1 IMHO that was a bad decision. It's going to cause even more confusion.
This subsection is now dedicated to the Sensation XE's red hardware buttons.

No good idea in my opinion! Reasons see above..

I don't want to be rude or sth, but I did some digging into those two roms and they are both kinda slovenly build-up. I even remember Energy roms from WM development and they had probably the worst memory management I ever saw.
Hi guys
since yhesterday been reading all the posts and threads regarding the sensation xe
Apart form using pyramid3d rom i felt as if the roms designed are a step lower than stock rom. I have a samsung galaxy s2 and have had many android phones so i do know abit. Even though i still found it confusing in original section.
Iv been reading reviews and emailed HTC according to the reviews and HTC the XE is hardware 1.5 and not software overclocked and from what iv been told are slightly different. Plus i noticed that the audio beats on most roms is not as good as the stock XE rom closest i got is pyramid.
Devs prob know better than all of us would realli appreciate if some of the experts who have been here for a while to clarify this once and for all.
Thanks for Reading guys.

Honestly, i'm not a dev, but as i know in hardware part original Sensation and XE one are the same. The difference is in CPU speed, but chipset is the same and in original sensation CPU speed is just underlocked with sofware to 1.2 Ghz.
Which part of this question is to do with the development of a ROM? Same rules apply to the normal Dev forum - it's for ROM threads only. Questions go in Q&A or General
Hello all,
I have a few quick questions to ask. I had recently "test-drived" the Sensation XE and found it to be a really good phone for me, therefore I will be purchasing it very soon. Although, I really dislike the ROM and Launcher as they drain battery like mad. Just wondering, currently what is the best ICS rom for the Sensation (XE) and also are there any problems that may occur when it comes to actually using an ICS rom on a Sensation (as all the roms i've looked at are currently in their beta stages).
Thank you for any answers provided.
Comprehensive thread of ICS problems and fixes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405457
I'd probably say ARHD is the best but do have a look around and see what is best for you.
I'm having trouble deciding if I should get the XE or SGS2, what do you rekon?
Both phones are very good. My wife has SGS2, I have her tmo employee 1st ed. sensation. ( i believe 1st ed., prob same as 1st retail shipped) i digress.
The sensation is rooted and has been through the works with almost every customer rom/kernel here.
We recently switched phones for two days and I went to work on her SGS2. For me its personal preference. After 2 days with juggernaut-sgs2, I missed the sensation.
Both phones work well and both companies have updated versions of them both.
If your willing to wait a month or two I'm sure that another phone will be around to outdate both the SGS2 and Sensation.
The sensation XE uses the same roms as the Normal sensation as the screen size is the same and stuff.
I'd say the best rom is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408351
The best thing to do for is to try all the roms till you find one that you like.
I prefer insert coin. A lot of updates and the forum thread is more clean. Because mike(dev of android revolution hd) gives the changelog before dating up his rom, there is alot of trash to be found in his thread and a lot of double posts. But in the end its a question of your own taste. Greets
Hi just ordered a htc sensation anyone recommend the best roms (performance/battery life), i don't know if this is true but i heard that the XE version is just a overclocked HTC sensation so can you recommend me any Roms based on the Stock XE ICS,
Yeah, the XE "just" has an overclock to it, as well as integrated beats audio EQ.
I prefer the stock rom, because of battery life and stability. As far as i know, there is no easy root method for the sensation with ICS, so i have to wait till i get root access. I switched from an xperia x10 mini pro, where the rooting process as well als recovery installation was simpler then simple. The HTC sensation is, compared to that, quite difficult to handle.
I would recommend you to just stay on the stock rom, because of battery life and stability. Not that the ROMs are crap or something, but you have to know what fits your needs. Just look around and read carefully any root/unlock instructions
viper
try viper s rom and faux kernel 9 and enjoy your phone
If you are aiming for battery life and stability I suggest you go for a senseless ROM like HyperNonSense or Virtuous Inquisition
For battery life any sense 3.6 Rom and flash stock kernel on top.

Welcome aboard ! To be honest its all about personal choice but for speed and battery life i love to use virtous inquisition rom make sure to check stickies in dev section and do alot of reading before doing anything its really easy to mess up :/

Its subjective, the best ROM for you might not be the Best ROM for someone else, same goes with kernels.
This is because everyone uses the phone in different ways and not all phones are made equal (eg some can overclock more than others). Therefore its pretty useless to ask which is the best ROM or which ROMs should you try because people are going to tell you what works best for them, the only way to find the best ROM for you is to try a few and see which one you like best.
As for sensation and xe. The XE actually is not overclocked, the XE just runs the qualcom CPU chip at its stock speed (1.5GHz) whereas the sensation is actually underclocked to 1.2GHz. The other hardware differences is the red LED and speaker grill instead of grey/white.
Software differences, the XE has a beats wallpaper, no dice app and 2 values changed in the code of ext.jar and widget.jar in the method of get_PyramidLE_flag, it returns a value of 0x1 (true) whereas the normal sensation returns a value of 0x0 (false).
If your woundering about beats audio, its just an EQ profile, nothing special and its not exclusive to the XE either because if you replace the ext.jar and widget.jar files on a sensation ROM with the ones from an XE ROM, HTC music app will let you have beats audio effect even on normal sensation
Hello Dear(s),
I had my device updated last year, nearly this time, and been having serious problems with its function, features and efficiency. As to name some of them, I can refer to Bluetooth malfunction, recurring system resets whenever turning the Bluetooth on, slow processing speed. Due to the fact that this model (HTC Sensation XE) wasn't included by the XDA classification, I came to ask if there's any difference between a previously released model, namely HTC Sensation, and the other, HTC Sensation XL. I severely ask for some guideline on how to root my device and install a new ROM. Do the usual Sensation ROMs fit my XE model?
