Dependant on the ROM, You need to go to /data/local/ and replace the bootanimation.zip with one of your choice.
you will need root explorer (or similar) with system mounted RW

On galaxy s2 and resurrection remix rom, i went on /system/media. Better backup first renaming the original.

right now i havent done any upgrading with the firmware or installed a rom. So my question is, say i do all that after i change the animation. What will happen?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA

if you have root access you will be fine... On some ROMs the bootanimation.zip is in a different location...
If it does not work, Delete it, And reboot, It will restore the original...
But make a copy of the original anyway, Place it on the SD card for easy finding.

Ok. I just didnt want to interfere if say i use a rom. Thanks.

If you flash a ROM, it will come with its own Bootanimation so it will overwrite the one that you change to

I'm also interested in this.
On my previous phones, all that was needed was to replace bootanimation.zip in /system/media
When I shelled into my Sensation, I couldn't find the file in that directory. Did I miss something?
I wanna know this too ...

Make sure you rename the sound to:
android_audio.mp3
And place it in:
data/local

Using ADB from your pc
$ adb push android_audio.mp3 /data/local/
Or you can use root explorer on your phone. But do recommend using ADB coz if you use Root Explorer you have to take care of the permission setting of your file.
I tried root explorer and coudnt copy file from sd card to phone. I will try adb, thank you.

You have to go at /system/media or /data/local with root explorer from an application and delete the bootanimation.zip

Look in the Themes & Apps section (bootsplashes).
There's also an app on the market that I can confirm works (I've used it several times before).
BootFlash Pro

Boot Animations

Just wondering if anyone is smart/talented enough (lord knows I'm not) to make a new boot up/down animation.
What I'd like to see is the AT&T animation totally gone, replaced with a nice black screen logo with beats logo.
I'd assume a new black splash image I think they are called too...
Any takers??

Here you go.
Copy both to /system/customize/resource and change permissions using root explorer or ES file explorer. Reboot and enjoy.
Also, you can find some other great boot animations formatted for the One X here. Just make sure you rename the bootanimation.zip to ATT_bootanimation.zip
Thanks for posting that. Exactly what I was looking for!
Awesome man... Many thanks... Any thoughts on replacing the bright first HTC splash screen??

I think that might be kernel/bootloader related but I could be wrong. Seems like on my Infuse it was a kernel thing if I remember right.

Does the Rom have to be de-odexed to use this? Keep trying to copy using root browser and will not let me
Edit: figured it out thanks

Also forgot to mention this is for AT&T. If you have the Rogers version, I think you rename them to hTC_bootup_one.zip. Someone with a Rogers phone might have to verify.

hTC_bootup_one.zip is also the name you need to use if you debranded your phone using these steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634171
I just installed some bootanimations and can confirm that it works.

So can that not be flashed since bootloaders aren't unlocked... I remember my inspire could be flashed by just putting a ph39 zip on the sd, I thought??

You can't flash through cwm...You just kinda plop the bootanimation into the correct folder (with the correct filename) and it works.
I'm talking about the splash screen...

Make sure to rename the bootanimation.zip to ATT_bootanimation.zip or to hTC_bootup_one.zip depending on which version phone you have. Then copy to /system/customize/resource
