Why do you need to partition buddy? Do you want multiple internal storages, or another reason? I may be able to help here with just a little more info.
i would like to partition the micro card.ive read that its better to have it partitioned?

In some cases, putting a separate partition on your SD card and formatting to etx3 can be beneficial, especially with the Galaxy S devices. In day-to-day use with others phones though, you'll benefit far more from the extra storage than having multiple partitions. Do you have a Galaxy S mate?

I found this for you, from the Aria forum:
To Enable A2SD:
Backup your applications
Backup your sdcard
Partition your sdcard with ROM Manager with an ext partition option. (ROM manager is in Market)
This should start a special mode of clockwork recovery, which will partition the sdcard.
That's the only reason you'd want to partition your card, so that if you're running out of memory you can move some of your apps to the SD card. ROM Manager is very easy to use, but I'll be here if you need me Good luck!

To follow onto this question. 1st time droid user, limited linux knowledge. I am running 2.2 on a brand new optimus t(mobile). I plan on rooting using z4root and flashing ROM (maybe megatron). Sdcard new (unused) only thing I have done with the phone is install a bunch of apps (which I can replace) and load my contact/gmail account.
I notice that my phone indicates 143kb internal available, so I assume I will have space limitations soon. It is my understanding that one of the benefits or rooting and putting on custom rom is the ability to have your phone recognize portions of the sd card as internal memory and, thus, "create" more internal space.
Considering my phone and my desire, can I go through the process of 1) rooting (z4root) 2) backup (custom recovery) 3) flash new rom/kernal 4) dump back up from sdcard onto PC via card reader 5) Use your above method to partition card?
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, including partition types/sizes, process, procedure....or just tell me if I am an idiot and am way off base.
Thanks a lot
When I open rom manager, one of the options is to install rom from sdcard.. When you select this, I basically find most of the files that I have downloaded.. ie darkside's wipe, the leaked rom zip etc... But if I select Reboot into Recovery from within Rom Manager, I don't see darkside's wipe OR the leaked rom zip??
I'm not sure which elements should be Mounted amongst the various choices, once you have rebooted into recovery.. Currently some are Mounted & some are not???
Thanks

Thanks! I'll check this out know... It'd be great to be able to get a screenshot of your CWM settings... Especially for the flashing virgins...

At the moment.. this is the state of mounts in CWM;
efs: unmounted
data: unmounted
system: unmounted
cache: MOUNTED
emmc: unmounted
sdcard: unmounted
usb: unmounted
So I mounted sdcard, and tried to find the zips that I have downloaded... Nadda.
What I do see, is Data... Reware.. Clockworkmod.. Titanium backup.. DCIM????
The downloaded zips that I am looking for are located here: /sdcard / download /

no, unser flash zip from sdcard, there is a internal sd cadd option. And mount emmc, that's internal phone storage. Use esexplorer and go to /sdcard/external_sd

So mount emmc, got it.
When you say to use esExplorer, do you mean move the zips, ie; rom zip & darkside's wipe zip to the external sd card?
Sorry, I didn't quite understand the first few words of your reply?
Hey! Thanks for all your help!!

OK, so I found the zips that I was looking for in CWM in downloads.
Got another question.. In CWM, on the screen that has "choose a zip to apply" at the top (font is white)... And at the bottom of the screen I see "CWM Recovery v5. 8.1.3 AND below that I see "no files found" Is this because I haven't selected a zip.. OR do I have a problem??

Yesterday I inserted the old microSD card Form my previous phone into my A700 and I wanted to format it, but I could not find a way to do so in the settings menu. It is no problem to format cards in all the android phones I recently used.
Erstellt mit Acer Iconia A700.
Show hidden files within file explorer and delete everything by hand.
You really need to format only if the card has problems.
If it does not, then deleting files is enough.
But you are right, there is no way of formatting the card from anywhere in the tab.

It's easier to remove the card and format it with a PC or phone. The tablet did not mount it correctly because it was exFAT formatted I guess.
Has anybody tried to use an SD card with NTFS filesystem?
And maybe there is a way to format cards in the Iconia tab with some app or busybox, I will post my findings when I find some time to try.
Erstellt mit Acer Iconia A700.
There is a guide, thou a wee bit longhaired, but its a complete working guide on how to do partitioning from the device itself, using the Busybox part Fdisk.
Remember that your build of Busybox might not have everything included, eg. mkfs.vfat, mkfs.ntfs or other parts mentioned in the guide, so a full or partial update of Busybox might be needed before you can proceed.
Remember to be carefull about the exact details, as you might brick da **** if you make mistakes and partition/format a system specific mmcblk you shouldnt mess with.
Another detail to keep in mind is the Print command, for committing the actual changes, not just lining up the changes you wish for.
But check you bin/binx dir for the parts you need so you know your Busybox has them.
The guide is in the HTC Legend part of this forum right in the top, its by BlaY0 and thread is called [GUIDE] SD card partitioning for rooted phones
Dont skip checking the Requirements and other details, as you can do serious fckups if you dont.. Eg. DO BACKUP BEFORE you dig in.
And you will have to know for certain, the complete layout of the mmcblk's of your device, eg. Exact mount points so you do not mistake internal and external SD.. You are "visually" blind, compared to graphical tools where you can "see" what you do, whereby Busybox and terminal jobs is by written commands only.
And yet another edit:
You must understand that if you choose to have other partition types on your external SD, that while Android on your Acer tab might be able to read and write to those partitions, your recovery very likely will not. So if you suddenly have to flash a new Rom with update.zip to reset your setup or any other flashing from Recovery, dont expect it to work with anything but standard Fat32! Not ext not ntfs not much else but that.
So you see, from several but's, notes, eg's and warnings, do it with a visual tool on a PC unless you absolutely have to mess with commandline tools.

It does, but not how you'd think. What are you trying to do? Use your external as titaniums storage?

Yes so I don't have to move the backups it makes before wiping and flashing. Forgive me still learning the android system.

You actually do not need to store them on the external sd. Titanium stores the backups by default on the root directory of the internal sd card (memory) and are safe from being wiped when wiping data/resetting to flash a rom. People do choose to change that location to the external for swapping backup to a different phone and for extra security in case of a brick or some other issue that could arise, but it is not required to do for general flashing of different roms.
If you do want to change the location, go into preferences and select storage location, the back button will navigate to different locations available. Choose external sd and make your batch backup..that's it. If you already made a backup on your internal before switching to external, you'll need to use a file explorer (I like ES, but others are just fine too) to move the entire Titanium folder to the external card. Then go back into preferences and be sure to select the titanium folder you just moved as the backup location.

NONONO DO NOT DO THIS!!!
Well you can if you don't then move your backups to your ext or a computer.
I believe TWRP wipes the WHOLE internal card when doing a factory reset as the Samsung Recovery does. ClockworkMod I believe is the only one that doesn't.
You probably need to format your 32gb ext to Fat32 instead of exFat that it comes with. See HERE It doesn't hurt to do this either way, unless you plan on putting files that are larger than 4gb each onto your card.
I don't use twrp, I use cwm with zero titanium issues on internal card. I find it unlikely that twrp would wipe the entire root directory bank of files because that would also wipe its own file including backups made. I'd like some verification on this, though I don't not use twrp, nor have seen any reference to not using the default location in any of titaniums guides.

Quick note: I hate speculation. Please someone else chime in on some verification so that the op is getting accurate correct information.
My directions above ARE 100% correct if using cwm as your recovery. Titanium makes no mention or warning that you should change titaniums built in default storage location based on various recovery options. But again, I do not have any intimate knowledge of the workings of twrp, but certainly want to know so that my help is verifiable and accurate in the future.

Okay, if TWRP CANNOT wipe the internal card cuz of it's own files, then how the hell does the stock version do the same thing???
DUH!!! recovery is on a DIFFERENT partition! Know your phone!
Let's put this into basics. Do you know for a fact that twrp will erase a titanium backup stored in the default titanium storage location on the internal card, or do you need to change the storage location to external when using twrp recovery risk losing the backups?
All I got from you is telling the op to not use titaniums default location based on a speculation you had on twrps possibility to wipe it without any definitive info to back it.
My cwm based info is un-arguably accurate. So let's not confuse the original op's question here, and be sure your not rewriting the book on titanium.

First make sure your SD Card is formatted correctly (as FAT32, not NTFS)
Then make sure your TB is actually backing up to that drive. Meaning, go into a file explorer and make sure that the Titanium files are there.
If those don't work, try using a different Recovery.
Annoyingduck thank you for always answering my questions.
I would gladly read any info I could on the android system. I admit I don't "know" my phone. I haven't been able to find info to get intimate knowledge of my phone. I just assumed the entire phone was wiped when I told it to in recovery. I can see where the storage drive can get rather cluttered over time then. Is there a way to do a full wipe to kinda clean things up in the future?
I'm going to have to buy the book android for dummies.
My mem card is stock 32gigs sandisk class 10. Straight out the package. The phone reads it. File manager sees it. Idk if I would need files greater than 4gigs. Didn't realize there was issues with the 32. Thought it was just the 64. That's why I got the 32 and not the 64.

That's what these forums are for, and hopefully getting the RIGHT info!
Your correct, the 32 should have no issues, the problems come along with the 64's. My SanDisk 32 class ten has no problems with files over 4 gig. Appreciate the support!

I don't know for a fact that TWRP will wipe everything or not... I was meaning that the OP should copy his backups to his ext manually or to a computer JUST IN CASE. I thought I had read that the TWRP Factory reset/wipe did the same thing as the Stock's Factory Reset/wipe(Which erases ALL app data from the internal SD including TB's backups!

@OP: The problem with the 64gb cards that I was referring to is their format. I know for a fact that 64gb cards are exFAT. I "think" that 32gb cards are doing the same thing. I dunno for sure. The problem with these cards is that the phone will read them, any file explorer will read them, but Recovery's have an issue reading them. Along with AOSP ROM's from what I've been told(I dunno for sure because I've always fixed my cards before going to AOSP).
If you dont see yourself using any files over 4gb(which usually are just bluray rips) then you might as well just format your card to FAT32 just to be safe. Go to and follow the GUI option of this THREAD. This is how I did my card and it's caused me no problems. Like I said the only downfall to formatting it this way won't allow you to use files that are over 4gb in size.
Now, there has been other problems with 64gb cards as far as stability. This is all speculative since I have not experienced it first hand, but I guess a lot of people were having their cards fail period. Meaning they were un-readable in any format on any device. Like I said, I have not experienced this.
I definitely would like to know more, especially about whether twrp does a full format. And just so I know, for cwm to erase root files, you would have to choose the format system option as opposed to wipe data/factory reset (which does not erase those files)?
Thanks man for the clarification

TWRP does not wipe /data/media which is the default save location for titanium, this location is the main directory of your internal storage. I have used TWRP on my SGS3 and my transformer prime and it has never erased this directory when doing a factory reset.

So you were formatting your sd card and for some reason or another it was interrupted, and now your sd card can't be mounted by android or cwm, making it "impossible" to format and resolve the issue.
Some say nothing is impossible. I disagree with those people, lots of things as impossible. Recovering your SD is not one of those things.
SIMPLE FIX:
Install TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) v2.2.0 (sorry, no help with this step here, read their instructions [can be found within the development section for our devices])
touch the "Wipe" button
touch the "External Storage" button
Slide the "Swipe to Wipe" indicator to the right and watch the impossible happen
congrats, if your corruption was due to an interrupted read/write/format, your issue is now resolved.
BACKGROUND:
I was formatting my sd via pc to get the trash off my phone, using a crappy cable, and it got interrupted. I spent an hour or so on the interwebs, trying different things, then read that this method worked on some htc device, so I figured it should work for us too since the configuration is similar, and it did.Because of this, I take no credit for this tut, simply sharing/rewording what iI found.
Thanks for the informative post.
Thank you for the post but TWRP doesn't seem to support many devices!!
I need to try this! I have a few nonworking cards and they're not even good for paperweights. Thank you!
