[Q] ROM Manager what elements should be Mounted? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

When I open rom manager, one of the options is to install rom from sdcard.. When you select this, I basically find most of the files that I have downloaded.. ie darkside's wipe, the leaked rom zip etc... But if I select Reboot into Recovery from within Rom Manager, I don't see darkside's wipe OR the leaked rom zip??
I'm not sure which elements should be Mounted amongst the various choices, once you have rebooted into recovery.. Currently some are Mounted & some are not???
Thanks

Thanks! I'll check this out know... It'd be great to be able to get a screenshot of your CWM settings... Especially for the flashing virgins...

At the moment.. this is the state of mounts in CWM;
efs: unmounted
data: unmounted
system: unmounted
cache: MOUNTED
emmc: unmounted
sdcard: unmounted
usb: unmounted
So I mounted sdcard, and tried to find the zips that I have downloaded... Nadda.
What I do see, is Data... Reware.. Clockworkmod.. Titanium backup.. DCIM????
The downloaded zips that I am looking for are located here: /sdcard / download /

no, unser flash zip from sdcard, there is a internal sd cadd option. And mount emmc, that's internal phone storage. Use esexplorer and go to /sdcard/external_sd

So mount emmc, got it.
When you say to use esExplorer, do you mean move the zips, ie; rom zip & darkside's wipe zip to the external sd card?
Sorry, I didn't quite understand the first few words of your reply?
Hey! Thanks for all your help!!

OK, so I found the zips that I was looking for in CWM in downloads.
Got another question.. In CWM, on the screen that has "choose a zip to apply" at the top (font is white)... And at the bottom of the screen I see "CWM Recovery v5. 8.1.3 AND below that I see "no files found" Is this because I haven't selected a zip.. OR do I have a problem??

[Q] Can't find zip in recovery mode when trying to install rom

Hi All.
I'm new to this and trying to install my first rom (aiming for cynagenmod 7- it has the language support i need, or so they say)
I rooted my phone and followed a yourtube video titled "How To Install CyanogenMod 7 Nightly on T-Mobile G2x after Nandroid Backup"
When i get to the part where i need to install zip from sd card, i can't find the file. I went back and copied the zip file into a few different folders, and although i can locate the folders, it tells me that the file cannot be found.
How do i get around this? Your help is much appreciated.

How did you download it? Through rom manager or from the phones xda app, browser? Look in folders with xda or rom manager?? Next time just copy and paste it to the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Downloaded it on a computer and then copied it to sd card
and you can't find where you put it? did you place it in a certain folder already created... you can plug your phone in to pc then enter recovery mode, go to storage and mounts at the bottom select mount usb then copy the zip to your sdcard in no folders.
When i try to do that t tells me unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory).
From recovery mode there are some folders i can't see when i browse the folders on the computer when the phone is booted up normally - and vice versa. Is this an indicaiton of a problem?
Silly question: do you actually have an SD card inserted in your phone? If so, what did you use to format it?
i do have an sd, and i actually didn't format it. should i format? if so, what is the best way?
Your help is much appreciated

Did you try, while in recovery, taking the back off your phone, pop out the sd card, wait 1 second, then pop it back in?
Stupid question, but it's a mistake some beginners make, but did you unzip it by any chance? That could be a reason CWM isn't seeing it. Once you DL the ROM you need to leave it untouched. Then place on SD.
After that in CWM go to choose zip from sd.
And you attained CWM via NVFlash correct?

Maybe you accidentally copied it to internal memory instead of the sdcard. You can check in cwm under internal sdcard I believe is what it is called.
When you connect the phone through USB it mounts both internal and the sdcard.

My file explorer sees it in both the root and the folder I created in the root - both can't be seen in recovery mode.
Should i list the directories i see in both views?

you may have put it on the "internal sd card" instead of external sd card, however this is not an issue if you flash CWM 5.0.2.0 or later, it has an option to install zip from internal sd and external. i renamed my external sd card to avoid future confusion (otherwise i see two "removable disks" when i plug my phone into my computer)
Check your file names on your SD card. Check what you see listed in Recovery. If you see differing file names, then you're accessing the wrong memory.
I'm going to assume you tried booting with the physical buttons. Try booting with CWM which should give you a blue menu.
i did try to boot both ways and both times i did not find it... for the millionth time i took the sd card out and put it back in and rebooted using cwm, and funny enough, it found the direcotry... and yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, cynagenmod7 is my new rom
thanks for all your help, support and commiseration... really, much appreciated. i do ve a few more issues that i have to research now... again, external sd not found though... will probably solicit more help
again, thanks

Don't unzip the file. When you flash anything via clockwork, it flashes using .zip files.

[Q] In ClockwordMod Recovery but no Cyanogen Mod update zip

Galaxy S2 GTi9100
Hi,
I rooted my phone today and am now trying to install Cyanogen Mod. I followed all steps on their Wiki but now am facing a problem.
- The wiki says "Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card. "
- I placed the update .zip file on the root of the external sd card. Seems like that was not what was intended.
- I followed these steps successfully:
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Optional: Select backup and restore to create a backup of current installation on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.- The next step is "Select the CyanogenMod update.zip. "
The problem is I don't see the CyanogenMod update .zip file anywhere in that list. Seems like I may have placed it in the wrong sd card?
When I try and reboot it just comes to the screen with the giant S and goes no further.
How can I resolve this problem?
Adding some more information after reading a few other threads.
- Looks like I placed the cyanogen mod update .zip file in the external sd and not the internal one (stupid!!).
Now I cannot get back inside the phone to try and place it in the internal sd.
How do I solve this?
Connect the phone to the PC and mount usb in recovery. You should see a storage device in windows & then just copy the files on it.
Ok. Just tried that. After I select 'mount usb storage', the next screen says on the top:
USB Mass Storage device
Leaving this menu unmount
your SD card from your PC
I then see an option to unmount.
On Windows explorer, I don't see the device.
Thinking back, I may have unchecked 'USB Debugging' before I started the process (for some reason that I cannot remember now). Would that cause a problem?
USB Debugging should not matter because you're in recovery.
I've not understand at well the question. You want flash the CM9 from clockwork mod? I've a Galaxy Gio, but in my case i have only to:
1 - copy the ROM in the root( after flash with manager of Android, with an SD adapter or in the other possible way)
2 - backup the old rom from cwm;
3 - reboot in cwm and if i have mount errors of /cache /data or some other partition i format it and mount it manually from cwm
4 - flash the zip i've copied at step 1
Then you have to wait and at the end, reboot.
What goes wrong in these steps for you ?
EDIT: If you don't see the .zip try to remove SD and use a SD Adapter, so you can copy files manually. Or if you want use CWM you can mount the device connecting device with USB cable, go in clockwork and do "mounts and storage -> mount USB storage" and copy files in the root "/"
You can use adb push command in recovery to push files to the phone.
You can also use fastboot to flash image files to the phone.

I copied the ROM in the external SD instead of internal sd. Now trying the adb option to push the ROM into the device root. Hoping that works.

Thank you my friend. This worked!
Little did I realise that this simple sounding statement above would require me to set up a complete android development environment on my computer.
I'm still not sure if all that was needed but I was finally able to get the files on my device by doing an adb push.
Lovely education for me today!
Glad it helped. Sorry I forgot to mention that ... it's kinda natural to me (having the sdk installed).

[Q] CWM "no sd-external found..."?

When I run CWM backups, at the end there's a brief message saying "no sd-external found, skipping backup of sd-external"
Can someone please explain why I get this message, since CWM backs up TO the external sd card & I can install zips from the EXTERNAL sd card? So clearly CWM must be finding it...Which makes me wonder why it's not backing up the external sd card?
Thanks

In case anyone else has this question...
Here is the answer from:
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ter-no-sd-ext-found-skipping-backup-of-sd-ext
" This means you do not have an ext3/4 partition on your sdcard. This really ins't a big deal, this is like a legacy part of the nandroid backup process. CM doesn't "officially" support the sd-ext partition any more anyhow."
Hope it helps someone else... In the end, the answer is pretty straight forward.

[SOLVED] Can't mount SD Card in red or blue CWM

I'm new to the SGS4G (been rooting for years since the early CM days on my G1), so please pardon my ignorance here. I'm unable to mount my SD Card with CWM. Yes, my card is formatted as FAT32 and is known-good in other devices.
If I boot into GB (VUVKJ6), then it has no problems accessing the SD Card locally or in Mass Storage mode via USB to my PC.
To get to the point where I'm at now, I followed this (to make sure I was fully stock KJ6) and then followed this beginning at step 6 (to get CWM on there so I can flash ROMs) but I get stuck at step 11 since I can't mount SD-Card.
I've tried at various stages with both red and blue CWM without luck. I've tried simply letting it mount it itself by trying to choose an update.zip from the SD Card and I've also gone into the Mounts menu to try and manually mount it.
Any thoughts?
-----------------------------
UPDATE: Solution was to format the SD Card within Android and on this specific device. I had cards formatted within Android on 3 different devices and they all had this same problem.

I just went to Red CWM (which I thought handled this but I've also tried manually adjusting it). By default (when I first boot into CWM), it displays:
- unmount /cache
- mount /data
- mount /sdcard
- unmount /system
It doesn't work this way. When I go to choose my update.zip to flash, it errors:
"E:Can't mount /sdcard"
I've tried to select "mount /sdcard" in the mounts menu and it errors:
"Error mounting /sdcard!"

Step 11 of this guide says: "11) Flash the GB rom you put on your sd card". When I select "install zip from sdcard" -> "choose zip from sdcard", it tells me "E:Can't mount /sdcard". I don't even get a directory structure to go find a .zip file in.
My goal: I'm simply trying to flash a ROM + GApps at this point.

Currently running CROMi-Xeno 5.2 . I have downloaded a couple of ROMs, and they go to the default Downloads directory. However, when I boot to TWRP, I navigate to sdcard/downloads and I see a bunch of old .zip ROM files, but not my new ones. It's like I have two different /sdcard mount points or something. From TWRP, I tried internal and external. It's weird, because in TWRP, I have a Download ( only one Download directory, not another download ) and I see older ROMs I've downloaded. But while it's running...if I plug into my laptop, I see only two ROMs, CROMi-X DEODEX 5.2.3_Signed.zip and CROMi-X DEODEX 5.2.4_Signed.zip, which I've just downloaded.
Disconnect USB from laptop, on tablet, using file manager, browse to /sdcard/Download, I see what I saw while it was plugged in, just the two ROMs. When connected to my laptop, I even created a new directory called ROMs.
I have a formatted ( to 200MB FAT ) MicroSD to use with Data2SD...which shouldn't cause any issues.
So now rebooting to TWRP, I select Install and see "Storage: Internal Storage", scroll down to select Download, and I see all my old ROM downloads, not the two new ones I mentioned above. And I don't see my new ROMs directory.
If I select Storage at the top, my options are Internal Storage and my MicroSD card.
If I go back to the main menu, then go to Mount, these are checked MicroSDcard, Data, Cache and System is not.
Any idears?

Well, if you are on Data2SD, your data partition is on your microSD. So the directory /sdcard/ is also on your microSD. Your internal storage is /sdcardi/. But TWRP doesn't know anything about Data2SD. It's treating your /sdcardi/ as /sdcard/ and it doesn't recognize the ext4 partition on your microSD, just the fat32 partition.
Copy the new rom to your internal storage or to the fat32 partition of the microSD (actually, if your fat32 is only 200mb, it's too small for the rom zip) and you'll see it in TWRP
