[Q] Weird MMS bug since ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Doesn't matter which ROM I'm running, but since I installed ICS, any time I get a MMS, I get spammed with tons of little messages from "Hidden Sender Address"
It happens over and over again...sometimes I can get it to stop, other times I have to disable data completely
Anyone else seen this?

Once in awhile ill get the hidden sender address. It seems to happen when I'm in a very bad service spot. I don't get slammed with them though. I've had the hidden sender randomly happen since gingerbread. Mainly from a froyo user.

If you're using a 3rd party messenging app, disable the auto-retrive MMS. Go to Stock messenger and enable auto-retrieve MMS. This worked for me! It was so annoying before D:
Hope this helps!

Google Talk - Delayed Incoming Notifications

Hey guys,
Tried searching for this, but nada.
Anyone else having issues with your phone being idle but powered on ans upon bringing on the screen you receive a google talk notification that's old? Is been happening to me lately, and I can't tell if it's the phone or the fact that my desktop version is intercepting the message and preventing the phone notification.
I'm tempted to no longer use the desktop built in gmail version, but I wanted to see if others are having similar issues.
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Can't guarantee this, but I have a feeling it may have something to do with the phone letting the Google talk process close when the phone is in it's sleep state. I've noted that I keep having to re sign in to gtalk when I wake up my phone and suspect that it is an issue with the horrible multitasking that HTC has bundled into sense 4.0.
I assume both of you also get delayed notifications with push email using the native Gmail app? I also frequently get logged out of Google Talk when I put the phone in standby mode. When I am logged out of Google Talk, my push emails are delayed in the Gmail app until I log back into Google Talk.
So it seems to be some problem of getting disconnected from google services when the phone is asleep.
I don't think i've been getting delayed notifications, but I do notice that my chat gets out of order a lot. My replies will be above whoever is talking to me no matter what order each was sent in.
Almost every phone that comes out gets a google talk going eventually so there is lots out there, but each phone has it's own issues. Here is a thread that was pretty good from the Galaxy Nexus Forums.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400367
With the HOX I have had issues with Google Talk not working great when the wifi is dropping, so this might be part of the wifi issue that pretty much everybody is having with this phone. The wifi stays connected but seems to go to sleep so your phone only gets the notification once it is woken up. Try turning off the wifi and seeing if you have the same problem.
As for Google Talk, there are some oddities that go along with using it on multiple devices. Here is some stuff I figured out playing around with it on multiple devices and computers at the same time. (I posted this in the GN forums as well)
"Google Talk is my main means of communication it seems so I have played with it a lot. Here are my observations.
1. To keep it "up" all the time in the Talk App hit the menu button (three dots now) >settings>uncheck automatic away status. Also make sure your phone has automatic syncing turned on for your gmail account: Setting>Accounts and Sync>ON (for your chat gmail address anyway). Additionally make sure your mobile data is turned on if you are ever off wifi: Settings>More>Mobile networks>Data Enabled (checked to turn on)
2. You can have up to 6 devices linked to your talk account at once, after that they just stop working.
3. When you receive a IM it appears on both your phone and your gmail account. If you start typing on the gmail account (or G+) it hijacks the whole session and you phone no longer gets the notifications, but the conversation still shows up on the chat window on the phone. When you are done with the IM session make sure you close the window on gmail (or G+) and send one last message from your phone or tablet to take the session back over, if you don't your phone will not receive future chat notifications. You can also just log out of your gmail/G+ session and it will automatically return everything to your phone/tablet but who ever does that?
4. To figure out how it all worked and tinker with it I use both of my gmail accounts and chat back and forth with them. You can do it from separate browsers or just open an incognito window in Chrome and log into your other gmail account. I would recommend this so you can see all of this stuff in practice.
Good Luck, hope this helps"
Gtalk and gmail delays
Hi all,
I have performed tests and discovered that if i disable WiFI and only use the phone's data connection "4g" or LTE that i receive all my messages with no problem even when the phone locks/goes to sleep. However if i leave wifi turned on, within 5-10 seconds i stop receiving them and will only receive them when i wake up the phone/unlock or wait for the delay which can be anywhere from 5-15 mins.
Trying to figure out a way to by pass this, but can't seem to figure it out. I don't want to keep my wifi off when i'm at work or home so i don't use data as i have 3GB and not unlimited so it kind of sucks that i have to keep wifi off for now. Any thoughts/ideas would be great, thanks.

This. I have issues with timely/accurate reception of notifications from GV. I only use my account for voicemail, but typically I only get voicemail notifications if I open the actual application (which I do because my gmail account receives an email notification now, as well). Sometimes I notice GV as a running task, but often times not, so to me it seems that (possibly) multitasking or some other form of process management in ICS or Sense is not prioritizing the GV process and it's associated actions. I dont mind the aggressive multitasking, but it would be nice to have the option of protecting some processes, such as GV.
I removed google + app completely with titanium backup, and the problem is gone., I get the messages immediately
Push Notifications Fixer can fix it

I'm running the latest Viper, I've never had an issue receiving or sending msgs. The only time the phone won't alert me is if I am actively typing in the browser window.
I'll note though that I never have wifi on, it's always on the mobile network.

I tried everything not even this works for me
Same problem, screen off - phone disconnects, unlock the phone - messages start to appear
Same problem on 2 different phones and 2 different numbers
I don't use G Talk, but I see the same thing with G Voice. I almost never get voicemail notifications on my HOX (they show up instantly on my old GNex). I blame Sense (for this and other things).
Same problem, but with Nexus 4 when I am on WiFi. With data connection, it works without problems.

MMS Images Will Not Send

Hi all, I have a recurring issue with sending MMS images with the stock messaging app on my G2x running CM7 stable. Sometimes, but not every time, when I hit send, the gray notifier box shows up, saying "Currently unable to send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available." This has happened even when I have service. Regardless, the box persists. Even when I can clearly see that I have bars, the box simply won't go away. The message refuses to send, and usually I can't even delete it. No matter what I do, the box stays, so I have to reboot every time I have this problem. Any ideas? I've done a good bit of searching and haven't yet found anyone with the same problem. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I occasionally have the same problem and the only thing I've found that helps are multiple hard reboots. Eventually the mms image will send and all will be well untill the next time it happens again...then more hard reboots.
I have a similar issue on CM7, try turning airplane mode on then off and then sending. Also, I use Handcent, not stock mms.apk.

I recommend backing up your apps with titaniumbackup and do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and flash the newest nightly version of cm7

Sometimes for similar issues, deleting telephony.db in something like data/providers/??telephony had helped me in the past. (And reboot)

I find that this problem persists even when I'm not using the stock mms.apk...for example, I've also used go sms pro and still have the same result which requires a reboot
Hmm, if you have tried airplane mode, I don't know what to say. For me, it seems to be connected with hitting areas of no reception. I may have a perfect connection, but something thinks I don't. What I mean is, for example I will launch Browser, say from Xda, and browser will give me a message telling me I have no connection (when I do) but still function. I think what ever causes browser to 'think' I have no connection is related to the mms issue. It's also apparent in an app called Clock Sync (which I use to keep my phone on a stable time, versus assuming the network will provide accurate time) and this app won't pull up the info from the time server and allow me to synch.

I don't know who your carrier is, but if your apn is split into two parts, one for accessing the internet and one for sending mms, then try this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484489, I posted it a while back and mms works perfectly for me, of course the only downside is that you have to manually switch apns depending on what you want to use your data for.
Good luck
I get that error message here and there... I learned to live with it... What you should do is after sending mms and that message appears; long hold that picture you're trying to send and select edit; this will bring that picture back to your text box... From there, like everyone said, airplane mode off then on... Then try sending it again... If that fails... Go to setting, applications, development and select long hold back button to kill app... So when that message appears and you want to get rid of it... Long hold back and it will kill that mms process...

Notification/Internet Issues... Everyone Please Read This

Has anyone else been having weird notification problems the last few days? Internet problems? Please read this whole post, especially the bottom paragraph.
So far I've been getting double and triple notifications.
Sometimes nothing at all.
I've noticed on a few messaging apps that I would receive a notification showing the person's I'm talking to photo and name but the text would be the text I just sent them.
Also my eBay notifications just turned themselves off without warning and I actually lost 2 items I bid on because of it.
I have my gmail set to vibrate on notification and it hasn't when I get an email.
Sometimes I delete an email and then login to gmail on the PC and it's not deleted out of my inbox.
It doesn't matter if I'm on wifi or 3g, it still happens.
Besides the phone I've noticed google.com in general being very slow and sometimes just not loading at all on my PC and a few others are having the same slow internet issues.
I have a N-7100 on AT&T running stock 4.1.1 rooted with the latest cwm and my FrankenBeats audio installed. I haven't done any modifications or installed any new apps to cause an issue, yet I'm having these problems.
This may be the conspiracy theorist inside me talking but I'm starting to think there is a massive cyber attack going on in the USA. Four of my family members (that I know of so far) have been experiencing slow internet (sometimes to the point of a time out) and their router logs show numerous back to back DoS attacks. I've done traces to the IP addresses that show in the logs and some are coming from GoDaddy servers, Cox ISP, Comcast, and all around the country? The four people are all located in different parts of the country. All different ISPs. But I find it hard to believe that Google's servers are being slow. In the history of the internet I don't think it ever has been acting the way it has in the last 2-3 weeks, and it's only getting worse. Not to mention the recently published articles of Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple being hacked or infected with viruses. What do you guys think?

[Q] Delayed mobile data access @ Android 5+

Hello,
so i used the search for this but could not find anything @ google or here... So since I updated to 5.0 (or higher versions) i experience a big delay in receiving messages over the internet. This does not appear when i'm in any wifi.
It's something like "disable background data" => only if i start an app it will connect and get messages / mails or whatever. When i just leave my phone somewhere (without wifi) it won't receive messages (like from whatsapp) [or only with a big delay]. Where does this come from? Background data is enable and no network restricted. And as I said, it works perfectly in WiFis.
Thanks and have a nice weekend,
Cloud2F
It works fine for me.

How often are you rebooting? I think it happens with a runtime of some days. I have the feeling that Apps are closing in the background. This happend for me on stock and custom Roms. But again strange, that on Wifi i still get messages....

Enable RCS on any carrier!

Someone on Reddit figured out how to enable RCS on any Android phone on any carrier!
https://www.reddit.com/r/UniversalP...a2v8r?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
You'll need an app called Activity Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher
I suggest you turn off WiFi before setup
Steps:
1.) Enroll in Messages Beta and install
2.) Download Activity Launcher
3.) Clear the data of 'Carrier Services' and force stop 'Android Messages.'
4.) Open Activity Launcher
5.) Tap 'Recent Activities,' and in the menu choose 'All Activities.'
6.) Look for 'Messages'
7.) Tap it, then scroll until you find 'Set RCS Flags'
8.) After pressing it select 'ACS Url"' and in the menu select 'http://rcs-acs-prod-us.sandbox google.com/.'
9.) Select OTP Pattern, and in the menu click, YourlsMessenger\sverification\scode\sis\sG-(\d {6}).
10.) Click Apply
11.) Follow setup in Messages. Will take around three minutes.
Step 9 doesn't save in the OTP area. Not sure if that's important but messages was able to enable the advanced feature for messaging over wifi, read receipts, typing notifications etc. Now if I can just find someone else with the feature to text with lol.
Set it up on my 4 xl, and my girlfriend's 4. Left wifi on the whole time. It took me a couple of tries to get it to work. It was easier on my girlfriend's phone. For me, I had to turn on airplane mode with WiFi on

I set it up on my wife's Note 8 and even though it activated we couldn't see typing notifications for each other and her texts wouldn't come through. Working fine on my phone though.
What is the benefit of rcs over sms?

Text me! I'm dying to try it! Dm for number
Group text?
I'm down. Nobody I know has RCS and I want to see how it works
Worked great! I'll try it tomorrow.
I wonder if it'll show on iMessage when I read things and what not. Guess I'll find out soon
Seems to be activated on my 4xl. Will try my wife's phone and then play around tomorrow.
is RCS supposed to work with other RCS users over-seas?
if so can someone PM me their number and see if it actually works
I can't verify my number. How to fix that
my pixel 3xl is eternal activation
I've tried it with my Coral, not working. I may try it this evening again, as well as on my Taimen, and see if either one works.
From Coral, with Tapatalk
I got mine to work and shows the additional chat features. After enabling, the only way I could get it to work is by going into a specific persons contact and toggling on/off the "only send SMS/mms " option. It then worked for me. It will revert back to standard after a bit but if I toggle that option again RCS comes back.
Don't know if this will help anyone else. Don't k ow how to get it to stick permanently

Yes. Overnight it drained more than usual. I rebooted and it looks like it settled down. I wonder if there is a way to undo what we did.

I have this working on two devices and after some testing I have to say unfortunately it is not working enough for day to day use. The RCS communication does work between the two devices if you are actively having a conversation but if you set them down and then try to message one the message will say sent but not be received on the other device until you pick up the other device and send a message to the sending device, then the message will come through and RCS will be working. Basically it works but it is not working to push the message through when not active. I re-tested using sms and all was good. Anyone else experience this?
