[Q] Possible for ROM to be applied "half way"? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm new to flashing ROMs on the EEE Pad, but not new to flashing ROMs in general...have a Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket that I have flashed probably 50 times alrerady. That being said...I'm confused. I rooted my tab and flashed a ROM. It looks like the flash worked because checking the version in "about" shows the new rom. The strange thing is that all the apps I had installed prior to flashing are still installed. I followed the normal steps...factory wipe, format cache, data, system. Does this make sense to anyone? It feels as if some of the rom flashed and some didn't. Any help would be appreciated.
PS...I would have posted this unter the ROM's thread but since I am new to the forum I can't until I have 10 posts.
Examples of this are pandora (including my login info)...email accounts, facebook accounts, etc

are you positive you wiped your data? if you did, everything should be gone.

Well...I ran a super wipe script that was part of the rom download now that you mention it. I'll give it another go but wipe by hand and see what happens.

aha! I bet that is it, I have heard people saying not to use the super wipe scripts. I don't know much about it but I'm nearly positive that's the problem.

it may also depend on if you are using the full wipe which does internal memory or the light which i believe leaves your apps untouched

You cant use superwipe if you got a recovery that only reads from internal memory (/mnt/sdcard/), as superwipe will also wipe your rom file, leaving you with nothing to flash.

oh so that's the only reason? not because it doesn't work right or something?
Btw does the Rogue CWM let you backup/restore from a USB External Drive? or just /Remoable/MicroSD/ ?

As far as I know, yes thats the only reason.
The version Im using only allows internal (/mnt/sdcard/) and external (/removable/microsd), there might be some version that allows USB as well, but I doubt it tbh.

Thanks for the responses...I figured I would skip the superwipe and just do it all by hand. All good, but ran into a new problem. Apparently I don't have the option for mounting an external SD card. It's installed and when booted into the OS I can see it and everything, but the mount option is missing from clockwork recovery. This is both with the touch version (5.8.1.8) and the non-touch version (5.5.0.4). Luckily the manual wiping didn't clear out the internal SD card so I was able to just restore my nandroid backup.
A - anyone have issues with the "mount sd-card" missing in CWR?
B - Apparently the tablet version of ICS installs apps to the internal SD card so doing a wipe doesn't really clear out all the apps. Does that sound right?

Both those CWM versions does not support external SD card afaik. Only internal.

That would be why then I guess. Doh! I'll check around but I didn't see newer versions that worked with the tf 101. Thanks for the reply!

I use cwm 5.0.2.7 [via RecoveryInstaller.apk], and I have had no problems, I can mount my MicroSD

[Q] Superwipe/flashing ROM error (Sensation XE) (Answered)

Hi guys,
OK so I have had my first Android phone for 2 days now (Sensation XE) and I have rooted it last night with Revolutionary.
Had some hitches, but got there in the end.
Anyway so to play it safe I thought I would flash Android Revolution 3.6.8 for sensation
I have clockwork and made a full backup, which is now on my computer.
Anyway I copied over superwipe and the ROM to the SD card and booted into recovery.
I attempt to use Superwipe, this does start but then fails on its own package, Status error 1 Installation aborted
When I try to flash the ROM on its own (Wiped using clockwork) basically the same thing happens again
What could the the issue?
Redownload zip files.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e with Beats Audio using XDA App
Even if its happening on both?
I would give it a try.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e with Beats Audio using XDA App
Nope still the same issue
Also, I formatted my SD card and redownloaded again, it still states "E:error in /sdcard/android revolution etcetcetc
(Status 1)
Installation aborted
If you do the wipe manualy via CWM (wipe cache,boot,system,data...) does it work?

Good news! Seems as though I have fixed the issues.
Basically formatting (Even doing a full long format) of my Sd card wouldnt work, but would always show 1.6GB total space, the Card is 2GB, so I would expect around 1.8GB at least.
Anyway Superwipe wouldnt work, but the one from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280358
Is different, and did actually run.
Since it has run, its seems as though its deleted a hidden partition, I now have 1.8GB of free space on the SD. and I can now instlal anything without fault.
Hope someone else who is having the same issues as me see this thread, it would stop them from pulling there hair out!

I was having the same issue and this worked for me.
Thank you!
Glad I'm helping people!
Can you press the "Thanks" button for me?
I had the same issue on my phone, and it turned out that Android Revolution and the Super Wipe that comes with it do not work with ClockworkMod. They are instead built to work with 4EXT. If you try to install with ClockworkMod, it will get a failure in the package. The reason for the failure is because the cache is still mounted, and it tries to wipe it. You can work around this by going back and unmounting cache, then trying to run the Super Wipe install again. You'll have to repeat the same procedure for installing Android Revolution.
One thing though is if you do install Android Revolution with ClockworkMod instead of 4EXT, you'll miss some important prompts. Once you get your phone up and running again, install 4EXT, then reinstall Android Revolution with it.

:: DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE ::
..A DARKSIDE DEVELOPMENT..
My Original thread is found [HERE]
This is a small script i threw together a while back. I have incorporated in many of my ROMS, usually runs with a installation flag '-wipe'. The script does exactly as the title explains. It is SUPER.WIPE that does the most thorough wipe possible. This exceeds anything that CWM is capable of from the menu options. This will format and erase EVERYTHING on your /system, /data, /cache partions with EXT4 file system. It WILL NOT wipe SD CARD or EMMC... After it is complete with format and earse, it will align all disks partitions properly. This is a great tool to flash right before installing any new ROM on your device. No need to worry if you have wiped properly. Let the script do it for you! ENJOY!
Instructions on using DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE:
* WILL NOT WIPE SD CARD OR EMMC *
IMMEDIATELY BEFORE FLASHING ROM OF YOU CHOICE, DO THE FOLLOWING...
1. Place on ROOT of your SD card.
2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
4. Flash DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE
5. Stay inside recovery
6. Flash desired ROM.
7. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
8. Done!

This is not ground breaking material. Just does a more thorough wipe and will align disk properly after formatting partitons.

So is the 3e recovery wipe process in the fix force close thread still helpful to do too or does this give you the same result?
Also would it be even better to format sd cards along with flashing this? Or is there not really any additional benefit of that?
THis and 3e recovery is completely different. We have problem with CWM not wiping data correctly therefore file corruption happens. By formatting ur sdcard you will lose everything that's in there. No need to do format sd card. Just flash this when you are doing fresh rom installation.

Wiping/Formatting Internal Storage. How to perform a real....(read:actual) wipe.

Even after doing a factory reset....and after wiping every time of cache i could in recovery...my internal storage is still stuffed with stuff from the stock when my i first got the device. How do i actually perform a wipe.

As well, wiping the internal storage may be possible through the stock ROM under settings-> storage....but i was working with codename android. I tried the "Erase Tablet" under Settings->Backup and Restore-> Factory Reset-> Wipe all personal information.
However, after restarting, nothing was deleted.
I'm going to flash the stock ROM and try to look for a format option under Settings->Storage, and i'll try doing a factory reset under settings-> Privacy.
If that doesn't work, i'll have to reflash Revolver 4 beta, and try to look in the settings there.
But as far as trying to delete everything from a computer, idk if i have to have USB debugging enabled, or some settings switched, because browsing the contents of the internal storage over USB doesn't even show all of the folders.
if you have a SBK1 devics you can use NVFlash that wipes everything and repartitions it and i believe there is a superwipe script in the arhd thread that wipes internal storage

Will this wipe CWM as well? Was hoping this wouldn't be too complicated. This will be a joke if i have to redo EVERYTHING.
I really just wanna wipe the internal storage and then flash a ROM from my sdcard.
So if things do work out like i want them to, I can just use the ICS Nvflash and things will be wiped?
Or will this be convoluted---as in i'll have to use the script, install ARHD (which is honeycomb right?) install CWM, rewipe (at which point i'll have some crap from ARHD in my internal storage...grr), and then, finally, install my ROM?
BTW, i have a B70 transformer that was rootable via the one-click live CD. I assume that means i have a SBK1.
I can remove my MicroSD during this, amirite?
C'mon asus, this is such a basic feature.
If i recall correctly, wasn't there a feature in settings, that if you entered your pattern or password incorrectly a certain number of times, your data would be wiped? If this wipes ALL personal information, that feature would be really handy right now.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245892
Download the super wipe. Then use the recovery to run it. It will handle all things internal.
Not sure which CWM you are using but in Rogue XM Recovery, there's an option to format /sdcard under Mounts and Storage. IIRC the regular CWM has that option too. There is also an option to partition the SD card under Advanced.
You can also use the the superwipe(full version) script to delete everything on internal storage. No it doesn't remove CWM.

what is this one click live cd rooting? Some sort of linux live cd? Why didn't you just use ViperMod?
How did you come to the assumption that you have a SBK1? Did the author of the rooting method specifically say it only works for SBK1 devices?
FROM THE MODERATOR . . . Watch the use of profanity... please use respectful language in this forum--- THX
The One-Click live CD was in it's prime during intitial release. ASUS changed the bootloader encryption key during the second half of B70* production. Before the second encryption key was released, B70*+ users were in limbo.
I came to that conclusion because i had no issue rooting and installing CWM with the first batch of tools, while others, who had devices with serial numbers in the second half of the B70* spectrum did. So yes, there is a method to my madness.
And i used the Live CD One-Click method because i was rusty with a CMD prompt. To each his own. It rooted, partitioned, and installed CWM.
I might add...this was my first Android device, and it was certainly my first time lurking around root. It was perfect for someone with a limited knowledge of android and Linux (at the time).
Thanks! I might as well give ARHD a try while im at it! Will report back!
Oh I see. Yes you are right about having sbk1.
Not sure which version of CWM comes with it but it should have an option to format sdcard like I said earlier. I know this because I used that option to delete everything before flashing ICS.

The Super-Wipe script worked perfectly for deleting the data, but the ARHD thread says that it reformats the partitions as EXT4. i installed ARHD after using the super wipe script and during the restore (Google's cloud restore), iI immediately got swamped with Google Play Store errors- Error 403 every time it tried to install an app.
Codename Android installed, restored, and ran fine...including app installation, so im not sure what was the problem, but i have a feeling it has to do with the file system change. If this is true, be aware. The script may function well, but its also possible you'll end up having to reformat anyways to change the filesystem back. Ill post this as well in the proper thread...but i thinks it's also relevant to this discussion.
I suppose XDA and Android have led me to my next topic of research--filesystem usage in Android with stock and custom ROMs.

Help I accidently formatted the internal SD

Fat fingers the touch recovery......I just killed the internal SD,
Can I just reinstall ROM ? or do I need to do something else, first...
I tried to reinstall rom from external but stuck on boot animation, but not boot looping.
Thanks
Ignore!
Its almost like it cant find the internal card.
I tried to instal from internal SD...just to see if I can see any directories
and say no files found, and kicks me out.
When I do mount USB storage, only my EXT shows up, no internal no longer pops up.....am I screwed ?
How can I confirm my internal SD card is mounted/unmounted properly.
Thanks for any help
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
If you can get into download mode I would probably just reflash stock firmware and start over.
I tried that, I did ODIN to stock, it loaded the bootloader, but was stuck on boot loops again.
As far as I can tell, phone isnt seeing the internal SD card. Or I am missing the steps to make the phone see it via clock work.
I can access CWM, and DL mode.... in CWM, I can do mount USB, only my EXT shows up.
I format the internal sd(emmc) before every rom flash. Just install rom from external sd card. There is nothing left on the emmc, you wiped it
I think I m hosed....
I think something went wrong with format.
I tried to reinstall ROM, and during install
error: cant mount csdard.adnoird.secure etc...
what version of cwm?
It touch clock work mod recovery. v.5.8.1.3
Error message is

I don't use that recovery. I use 5.8. I don't use internal to do anything, I always use external to flash from and store my important stuff. After a while of flashing things the emmc gets jammed up with nonsense.

The 5.8 is actually a hercules version for the tmo variant. The sk8er 5.5 or whatever it is, is a version adapted specifically for the rocket, and supposedly it performs the wipe and fix functions correctly. As long as you set it up right and put the hiddenprocess folder and mount sd every time you use it. Last I knew it still won't see both sd cards at the same time. I just don't like dicking around with all that stuff.
Sk8er could probably give you a better explanation of them, I think it even mentions it throughout his thread. I have no problems with the 5.8 version and I couldn't recommend the OP on how to navigate the version he had because I don't use it. So I just moved him to the version I use. Lol

Are you asking how to get CM10 working correctly? Or just how to get your TF101 working fine again? If the former, I can't really help you there, and that's just going to be difficult because CM10 is still in development, so there could be a host of problems. If you just want to get it working again, I would suggest finding a different (preferably STABLE) ROM and flashing it onto your device. That should work.
Also, if you're flashing a completely different ROM onto your device (not an upgrade or root, or whatever else,) I would go by the general rule of ALWAYS wipe your system, dalvik cache, normal cache, and if you're flashing files from an SD card, be sure to wipe your internal memory too. This will ensure that none of your previous files conflict with the new ones.
This happened to me when i ran one of the JB roms and then tried to nandroid back to revolver. By default the mounting for /data/media/ which is the internal memory is supposed to be at /sdcard/, but for some reason it got switched to /storage/sdcard0/. Nandroiding back to Revolver didn't help as the change was to something before the rom, so even twrp was acting funny because the mountings were present there also.
After some confusion i flashed superwipe lite and all was well. I ran lite since its supposed to leave /data/media/ alone, while reparitioning the rest of the system, so i thought that at some point its got to change the mountings back to the way it was supposed to be in HC and ICS.
Now if i could only remember where those mountings were originally saved i can just go in there and edit the file directly if this happens again.

Here's what I would suggest (assuming you have a microSD card):
Load your ROM of choice onto a microSD card and Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) to your internal memory. Reboot into recovery and flash the TWRP .zip to install it, and then reboot back into recovery. After that, go to "Wipe" and run Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, and System, and DO NOT REBOOT Then go back and choose "Install" from the menu and make sure you're viewing "using external SD," and there should be your ROM .zip. Flash it and reboot.
Let me know what happens or if you have any questions.

This is a TF101 we're talking about, right? You didn't just flash that onto a different model of Transformer?

Alright, well, I'm not sure why your touch would't be working if you're using a TF101, but here's my last idea: Go here and do this. Make sure to read it carefully, as that basically just wipes your drive COMPLETELY and reinstalls the STOCK firmware. If you can't figure out how to do that, then I have no idea how else I can help you. I'm sorry.

Can you not just download a file manager app from the Play Store? There's several out there...
