[Q] Superwipe/flashing ROM error (Sensation XE) (Answered) - HTC Sensation

Hi guys,
OK so I have had my first Android phone for 2 days now (Sensation XE) and I have rooted it last night with Revolutionary.
Had some hitches, but got there in the end.
Anyway so to play it safe I thought I would flash Android Revolution 3.6.8 for sensation
I have clockwork and made a full backup, which is now on my computer.
Anyway I copied over superwipe and the ROM to the SD card and booted into recovery.
I attempt to use Superwipe, this does start but then fails on its own package, Status error 1 Installation aborted
When I try to flash the ROM on its own (Wiped using clockwork) basically the same thing happens again
What could the the issue?

Redownload zip files.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e with Beats Audio using XDA App

Even if its happening on both?

I would give it a try.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e with Beats Audio using XDA App

Nope still the same issue

Also, I formatted my SD card and redownloaded again, it still states "E:error in /sdcard/android revolution etcetcetc
(Status 1)
Installation aborted

If you do the wipe manualy via CWM (wipe cache,boot,system,data...) does it work?

Good news! Seems as though I have fixed the issues.
Basically formatting (Even doing a full long format) of my Sd card wouldnt work, but would always show 1.6GB total space, the Card is 2GB, so I would expect around 1.8GB at least.
Anyway Superwipe wouldnt work, but the one from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1280358
Is different, and did actually run.
Since it has run, its seems as though its deleted a hidden partition, I now have 1.8GB of free space on the SD. and I can now instlal anything without fault.
Hope someone else who is having the same issues as me see this thread, it would stop them from pulling there hair out!

Odd though - SD comes with a partition from factory?

Thank you so much. I was having the same issue, and this one works!!!

I was having the same issue and this worked for me.
Thank you!

Glad I'm helping people!
Can you press the "Thanks" button for me?

I had the same issue on my phone, and it turned out that Android Revolution and the Super Wipe that comes with it do not work with ClockworkMod. They are instead built to work with 4EXT. If you try to install with ClockworkMod, it will get a failure in the package. The reason for the failure is because the cache is still mounted, and it tries to wipe it. You can work around this by going back and unmounting cache, then trying to run the Super Wipe install again. You'll have to repeat the same procedure for installing Android Revolution.
One thing though is if you do install Android Revolution with ClockworkMod instead of 4EXT, you'll miss some important prompts. Once you get your phone up and running again, install 4EXT, then reinstall Android Revolution with it.

cyanogen with a2sd, partitioned, dalvik on sd

Could somebody PLEASE give me walk through of the holy grail here? I have rooted my aria and loaded cyanogen nightlies many times, but when it comes time to format and get a2sd working on a partitioned card I fail miserably. I seem to run into issues when the guides mention to go into recovery and partition the card. I am running clockwork and can't find the right partition menu. I tried a method involving adb and could not get a file to push, downloaded darktremor and got an endless htc screen boot loop, and at this point my phone may as well be a missile to my computer screen. I am a noob, but not entirely unfamiliar, just some sort of help getting to that last screen where I see lots of phone memory and can finally lay off deleting apps to add one.
Thanks and I hope someone is out there willing to help!
Can't give you a link from here, but I can encourage you to look for a forum that discusses Ext3 partitioning using a live ubuntu cd. You may have rooted using a similar method. I'll try to remember to send you a link when I get home. Search until then. Post if you find it.

Why not just use Rom Manager to partition the card?
I tried that many times but it never worked. It always hung up on the ! triangle screen. I had no problems with the live cd method.

I did this but went with ext3. I actually practiced with an older SD card until I got it right. The order of partitions is important. Fat32, ext, then lswap. Read around about recommended sizes. For an 8GB card I went with 6.5gb/1gb/32m.

Skip swap. Should not need/use it on a 512K ram device.
Edit: I know specs say less - specs are wrong! Liberty has the same memory as the N1.
I did it as a precaution. My SD is waaaaaay oversized and figured I could afford to waste 32mb.

and I am running out of space on a 16 gb card. 12gb mp3s and 600+ pictures will do that.

thanks for this attn. i had seen posts about swap on other devices and wondered if it would help my aria. i'm glad i didn't try to set it up...
Thanks everone for responding. This is where I am with the partition. So when I put the card the phone and mount sd card it shows the same amount of memory in the phone (77.26) when I added a gig of ext2 in gparted.
Do I need to go back into gparted and charnge the ext2 to ext3? Or is this an issue where I need to change something in the phone I am missing. I did reboot after putting the card in.
You won't see any increased capacity there. What you will see after apps2sd is working is that the amount of internal used will go down. I had to reinstall apps2sd after I did the partition, even though darktremor's apps2sd came with my ROM. It defaulted to off because it saw no ext partition upon ROM installation.

So I wipe data and flash a cyanogen nightly it will automatically pick up a2sdext and show the proper storage data?
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I haven't been in this position myself (always clean installs since using a2ext) but I believe if you have darktremor's a2sd installed and have ext on your sd card, but apps are still on the device, you can do:
su
a2sd reinstall
in the terminal app on the device and it will move all apps from device memory to the ext partition. not sure how this behaves if you have any apps on sd via the standard froyo method....
I don't have a problem wiping data, dalvik and cache since I backed up everything. Going to give it a shot here...
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Fwiw, I have been using this method up until this release candidate. Seems broken now.
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Ok, so I tried wiping data/cache/dalvikr then flashed cyanogen nightly 99 and it still only showed 138m internal memory. So then I tried downloading darktremor and flashing the zip from clockwork which gives me infinate htc white bootscreens. Then I tried wiping again and flashed the darktremor zip and then cyanogen 99 and the phone booted up, but when I check internal memory I am at 123m. Am I just completely missing something here?
You are likely seeing dalvik. If you have a good SD card, do su in a terminal and then a2sd cachesd. The phone will reboot.
That moves dalvik to SD as well.

Says a2sd not found. If anyone has any ideas, I am willing to start from scrap to get this running. BelacNongaw, how did you get yours running? If you don't mind I could try tracing the steps you took and that might work?
Did you type:
su
system/bin/a2sd cachesd
in terminal?

[Q] Flashing Rom can't find sd card in recovery.

First off, I have never had a rom for this phone that works well for a long period of time. Every single one slows down eventually and will get random shut downs and other problems. This time, I decided to reflash it to a fresh start and put Valhalla Black edition on it. And I mean completely fresh. I backed up my few files, formatted the sd card, factory reset the phone, and flashed stock KD1 in Odin. Up until this point, everything had been going perfectly fine and the ROM installed just fine. At this point, I put Valhalla onto the sd card to flash and boot up into CWM. This is where I am lost. First, I go straight to "install zip from sd card" and almost get ready to install, but then remember to double check my mounts. Mounts good, but as soon as I select "install from sd card again", I get the error that the sd card can not be mounted. I restarted the recovery and tried to install, and I got all the way to selecting "yes" to install the ROM. But still, Error: can not mount sd card.
So basically I have figured out that I can navigate to the rom and attempt to install before I get the error, or I can just check my mounts and not even get past "install zip from sd card" before I get the error and have to restart the recovery. Could this just be the card's problem and I need a new one, or is it something else? I need help, I am completely lost at this point.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: I may want to add that this same sd card completely crapped out on me about a month ago and I had to reformat it to get it working again.
Also, does anyone else always have their roms slow down after awhile? I would say that the average time for one of my roms to start getting random restarts and constant app closings is about one months time.
Format it on the computer. Fat 32
If that doesn't work try using Panasonics SD card formatting utility.
If that doesn't work maybe try changing voodoo.
Okay I am finished cutting and pasting what I found regarding this issue using search.
Hope one of them helps. If not... utilize the search in the forum. It is pretty neat!
Edit: Wait... do you even have a Galaxy S 4G?

Ok. Also, I have a question for you. I noticed that you are using your device on AT&T. Did you have constant notifications popping up about a Tmobile contacts backup or anything else? That is another thing that I need to find a way to get rid of.
I am on t-mobile. But I uninstalled t-mobile back up and use google. The Panasonic sd card format worked for somebody else. So did following the gb starter pack. There are a lot of posts regarding this issue. Different things have worked for different people.
System Toolbox is my preferred app to uninstall system apps like t-mobile back up.

Yup, just use the KJ6 Debloater, or whatever program, to remove the T-Mobile Contact Backups apk
Edit: I just uninstalled T-Mo Backup and Wifi Calling using the debloater right now

Thanks for all the replies! Ill attack the phone again in awhile and see what I can do.
I had this problem too after a failed restore sent my phone into a bootloap. When I odin'd a new kernel, it wouldn't mount, even though I had CWM. It wouldn't work until I odin'd a new rom. I used FB's starter pack and it fixed it perfectly.
Also, about the T-mobile contacts, it's annoying as hell because I don't have T-Mobile either. Once you load a KJ6 rom, use FB's debloater to get rid of T-Mobile contacts backup. You will notice a large amount of ram is freed up from deleting all of the t-mobile items.
Also, if you are starting from KD1 froyo, you need to follow FB's starter pack to make sure you get the proper gingerbread boot loaders on your phone.
Your SD card may be going bad, is there another one you can try?
I've had the same rom for months and haven't had issues or slowdowns. It might be caused by a specific app you are using. Though it may not be a bad idea to go into CWM every now and then and wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions.

[Q] Possible for ROM to be applied "half way"?

I'm new to flashing ROMs on the EEE Pad, but not new to flashing ROMs in general...have a Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket that I have flashed probably 50 times alrerady. That being said...I'm confused. I rooted my tab and flashed a ROM. It looks like the flash worked because checking the version in "about" shows the new rom. The strange thing is that all the apps I had installed prior to flashing are still installed. I followed the normal steps...factory wipe, format cache, data, system. Does this make sense to anyone? It feels as if some of the rom flashed and some didn't. Any help would be appreciated.
PS...I would have posted this unter the ROM's thread but since I am new to the forum I can't until I have 10 posts.
Examples of this are pandora (including my login info)...email accounts, facebook accounts, etc
are you positive you wiped your data? if you did, everything should be gone.
Well...I ran a super wipe script that was part of the rom download now that you mention it. I'll give it another go but wipe by hand and see what happens.

aha! I bet that is it, I have heard people saying not to use the super wipe scripts. I don't know much about it but I'm nearly positive that's the problem.
it may also depend on if you are using the full wipe which does internal memory or the light which i believe leaves your apps untouched

You cant use superwipe if you got a recovery that only reads from internal memory (/mnt/sdcard/), as superwipe will also wipe your rom file, leaving you with nothing to flash.

As far as I know, yes thats the only reason.
The version Im using only allows internal (/mnt/sdcard/) and external (/removable/microsd), there might be some version that allows USB as well, but I doubt it tbh.
Thanks for the responses...I figured I would skip the superwipe and just do it all by hand. All good, but ran into a new problem. Apparently I don't have the option for mounting an external SD card. It's installed and when booted into the OS I can see it and everything, but the mount option is missing from clockwork recovery. This is both with the touch version (5.8.1.8) and the non-touch version (5.5.0.4). Luckily the manual wiping didn't clear out the internal SD card so I was able to just restore my nandroid backup.
A - anyone have issues with the "mount sd-card" missing in CWR?
B - Apparently the tablet version of ICS installs apps to the internal SD card so doing a wipe doesn't really clear out all the apps. Does that sound right?
Both those CWM versions does not support external SD card afaik. Only internal.
That would be why then I guess. Doh! I'll check around but I didn't see newer versions that worked with the tf 101. Thanks for the reply!

I use cwm 5.0.2.7 [via RecoveryInstaller.apk], and I have had no problems, I can mount my MicroSD

Help I accidently formatted the internal SD

Fat fingers the touch recovery......I just killed the internal SD,
Can I just reinstall ROM ? or do I need to do something else, first...
I tried to reinstall rom from external but stuck on boot animation, but not boot looping.
Thanks
Ignore!
Its almost like it cant find the internal card.
I tried to instal from internal SD...just to see if I can see any directories
and say no files found, and kicks me out.
When I do mount USB storage, only my EXT shows up, no internal no longer pops up.....am I screwed ?
How can I confirm my internal SD card is mounted/unmounted properly.
Thanks for any help
Can you get into recovery or download mode?
If you can get into download mode I would probably just reflash stock firmware and start over.
I tried that, I did ODIN to stock, it loaded the bootloader, but was stuck on boot loops again.
As far as I can tell, phone isnt seeing the internal SD card. Or I am missing the steps to make the phone see it via clock work.
I can access CWM, and DL mode.... in CWM, I can do mount USB, only my EXT shows up.
I format the internal sd(emmc) before every rom flash. Just install rom from external sd card. There is nothing left on the emmc, you wiped it
I think I m hosed....
I think something went wrong with format.
I tried to reinstall ROM, and during install
error: cant mount csdard.adnoird.secure etc...
what version of cwm?
It touch clock work mod recovery. v.5.8.1.3
Error message is
Formatting /sdcard/.andoird_secure...
Error mounting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Question, are able to mount and see internal SD, after the format emmc via usb storage on PC ? Right now only the EXT shows up for me if I USB mount

I don't use that recovery. I use 5.8. I don't use internal to do anything, I always use external to flash from and store my important stuff. After a while of flashing things the emmc gets jammed up with nonsense.
Just use 5.8 touch, the have to mount and put hidden process folders in that version you have sucks.
Any chance you can link me to the recovery you use, I want to make sure I have the same one.

Good to see a potential train wreck that I'm not part of, get fixed so quickly & expertly!!
Just curious, what's the difference between the two versions of CWM Touch, I'm wondering because I am also using 5.1.8.3? Is it the recovery image, or is this Touch the one developed on xda?

The 5.8 is actually a hercules version for the tmo variant. The sk8er 5.5 or whatever it is, is a version adapted specifically for the rocket, and supposedly it performs the wipe and fix functions correctly. As long as you set it up right and put the hiddenprocess folder and mount sd every time you use it. Last I knew it still won't see both sd cards at the same time. I just don't like dicking around with all that stuff.
Sk8er could probably give you a better explanation of them, I think it even mentions it throughout his thread. I have no problems with the 5.8 version and I couldn't recommend the OP on how to navigate the version he had because I don't use it. So I just moved him to the version I use. Lol

The data for the apps are still on the sd, however the app itself was wiped with the installation of the ruu because it's stored in the /data partition of the phone

there is two options then:
1. you`ve installed them to <ext> partition,
which stock rom doesn`t support,
that is why you cannot see it...
2. they were put on to sdcard in a normal-stock
kind of way,which means:
an app stores only its parts and/or its data on an sdcard,...
While flashing RUU, the part of the app remaining on internal
(phone`s memory) has been wiped with all else,
so, an app has lost its integrity,
in such a state is no longer usable or recognised...
if the second case is what you`ve done,
then- i do not promise anything, but...
you may try to install the apps again,
and see whether they`ll find and recognise their belongings
remaining on an sdcard...
...never have done it, but it wouldn`t harm anything if you try...
Edit: as @jugg1es sugests,
even if there is something,
left behind, it just is a bunch of random files,
that system does not realy care about
