Hello all, I`m new to Android and also new to XDA. I`m just starting to understand what rooting, roms etc. are! I just won a contest from a local company(On The Go Solutions) that is offering to Root/upgrade my phone and add add custom rom and remove all of the bloatware, for free. Since I`m just understanding all of this should I do it and just learn as I go. Beacuse I don`t want to mess things up or screw up my phone! Im nervious that learning on a already rooted phone and not understanding it fully could be disasterious. Any input???????? Thanks guys for you time you guys rock.
Rooting is just giving root access to your phone so that you can work with its os.in the beginning you will feel some fear of brick.but when u learn all these things you will get crazy..don't worry we are all in a learning process right?

Hello and welcome to XDA...
First, I recommend reading the stickies posted in the forum and learning as much as you can about the inner-workings of the community... from there, things get easier.
Points of advice...
- Flashing Roms and Kernels can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be... meaning, if you search the forum well and learn what you're doing, it becomes as simple as ever...
- Never flash anything without making a nandroid backup first... if you don't know what that means, use the search function for XDA and lookup "nandroid"
Lastly,
Most people are going to recommend you flash yourself Cyanogenmod 7. The latest stable build is RC1 and can be found here and other "usual places".
Once you flash CM7 (a "rom") then you can flash a Kernel if you want... I'd be willing to put my neck out and say that faux has the most reliable and most popular Kernel out right now in conjunction with CM7...
The best thing you can do for yourself is read... take the time to read as much as you can and answer your own questions slowly over time... there is no reason to go flashing away until you fully understand what it is that you are doing.
Hope that gets you started in the right direction... good luck and have fun!
Hi, first of all, my English was not good and if any grammar mistake or broken English, please don't scold me. Secondly, I does not know weather i post in the correct place.
I have a new phone which is custom made by the 4G provider.
The phone is fully custom made to support it 4G connection.
Phone model: Yes Eclipse
The problem is the phone was come with Android 2.2 which is abit too old for me. And I am planning to root the phone and upgrade it.
The 1st problem is, i cant even root the phone. So anyway I can learn how to root? I am willing to learn more.
I googled and found that the phone cant be room in any method
Secondly, i would like to learn making a rom since my holiday is near, i have knowledge on Java coding, but where can I start?
Thanks.
Ok soo I am thinking about rooting my Sony Ericsson and I wanted too know if it's worth it or not.. I know there are alot of great apps that you can get.. but I heard that you can get free 3g when you root you're device, is this true? and also I wanna know if I shouldn't root my phone and just not take the risk..
I also have a problem with the phone typing by itself sometimes and I have to restart it a few times and it quits and goes back to normal.. any help on this?

lol.. u won't get free 3g after rooting..someone trolled you!!
rooting will void ur software warranty of phone!
But it has it's own advantages, u could use custom rom and save battery, RAM through tweaks!
you could get hardware acceleration via Cyanogenmod and play certain games which are not compatible with ur phone!
Find ur device forum for more details! Just use search bar on the top right corner!
as for ur problem, dust and moisture can cause this..remove screen protector and wipe the screen and apply new protector
if problem persists, show it to service if u are under warranty!
My advice is always the same.
Find a reason to root your device before just doing it.
A custom recovery can be nice, but do you really need one ?
Custom ROMs can be nice, but do you want to take the risks they come with ? Just scroll through these forums and see all the posts about people who have bricked their devices - even people who had good experience and knew what they were doing. Sometimes things go wrong - are you willing to pay to have your device repaired if you brick it ?
Rooting alone opens you up to some security risks - so there's really no point in rooting unless you have a plan about what you want to do with it and understand the risks and what you can do to make sure you don't do something bad.
Yeah, these things can do some cool stuff - and if you would like it it can be worth it. But if you don't really care, it's not.
Do some research. Decide what you want to do.
I rooted my Desire for two reasons: 1 To upgrade to ICS
2 To run many apps without
filling up my internal memory. I'm really happy with the result and
if i find support for Android 5.0 in the future i'll go for it.
If you use it as a phone only don't risk it.
I have another question.. If I root my phone.. will I get the latest updates? Cause my phone only has 2.3.3 and I see alot of people will 4.0 and I was wondering if I do root it .. is it possible to get 4.0 or greater than 2.3.3?
and thanks for helping me

Okay, there are two kinds of "updates". You can still get OTA carrier updates with root only, but you may lose root in doing so.
Then there are custom ROMs. I have no idea if an ICS ROM is available for your phone - Google it or search the forum and see. Beware that these typically do not work 100% perfectly. If there is a custom ROM depends in if someone put the time into making it or not.

If you root your phone you won't have to worry about updates from your carrier, nor will you want it. All you will do is keep up with the thread of the ROM of your choice and see if the developer has updated the ROM. As far as getting a certain version of Android for your phone it's all entirely on the phone you have. Look around for a forum for your specific device and check their development section to see what ROMs they have available for you.
Soooo, i'm new to this rooting android whatever stuff.

Hi guy's,
I am thinking about buying the fold 2 and I am a little bit concerned about the root.
Is it really needed to make this thing working?
How are your experiences? Are you happy with the device? Did you have rooted it and If yes why?
Thanks a lot
Rooting is not needed it. But rooting the phone give you a better experience like most android will work. For me after rooting the phone I can't go back to unrooting
It's not obligatory but it will be the best choice if you want different language than English cause morelocal translation isn't very good in this device. Don't worry though it is very easy to root.
