Any hopes for ubunto for Android? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

When I first saw the demo of Ubuntu for Android I was ecstatic. Its essentially what I want from my mobile device. I havent seen it since then and was wondering whats the latest everyone has heard about ubuntu for android. I know the release isnt slated until later 2012 but I mean they have to have a beta release lingering out there?

Next year at the earliest on this phone.

Welcome to XDA! Nothing official on a date but maybe by the end of Oct.
What device are you using and planning to upgrade?
i personally wont expect it for months yet. even more so to be ported to existing devices.

Froyo was running / ported on the motorola droid within a week of the Google I/O announcement. The nexus one had it officially released 24 hours or so after the announcement.
Any build of 3.0 will get ported to most major phones (well the phones that aren't locked down, thanks so much moto droid 2 / X and the new HTC g2) in less then a week from any build released.
I thought the rumoured date was Nov. 11th or something like that
No source because i forget where i got that one from
This might shed some light

Anyone have any word on new builds of Mango coming soon?

Any news on when new Mango builds are coming?
Also, any news on tethering being added to future build of mango?
Nobody has any idea right now. We do know that beta 3 exists but it's for internal testing. If mango RTM comes out late August, I wouldn't be surprised to see it within a couple weeks.
For tethering, it won't be a native app in mango. I also am not sure if devs have access to an API to build one. Most phones have a method of doing it right now though.

Ubuntu for Mobile announced!

So Ubuntu announced some new stuff for us yesterday.....
http://www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone
22 min video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cpWHJDLsqTU
At the 21 minute mark he says if your phone works with Android then it will work with Ubuntu.... I wonder how that process will work. I also am interested in how to get all our awesome Android apps working too. Another problem will be the lack of video out for us... Anyways, discuss!!
I myself am getting pretty excited about this, I wasn't planning on getting a new phone til the flexible phones came out but this is big news! I might even trade for a Nexus if the dock is small and portable. I wonder how quick it will be ported to our phone?
I'm very excited myself. However in a few months I leave on a LDS mission and will be out with no tech. For 2 years. So I'll only hope this gets put on our phone

ZDNet had a nice article on it but it sounds like it will be an option for the manufactures to offer than a ROM to port.. Ubuntu offers an arm version that you can install and run from within android and that works great, it already works WITH android, this would basicly be an option for the carrier to provide, at Ubuntu there is a link to get their assistance in building ubuntu for specific devices if someone with more time wants to chase it a little. it would be pretty awesome tho.

Yea I think they chose the galaxy nexus because there is full source release instead of the nexus 4. I am hoping that wont be too much of a problem and we can just mod the original release and it wont be too much of a problem. I'm pretty sure android stuff will work with it too, just we will have to download an emulator or some sort. I'll be keeping an eye on this one...

Hello All

Hi everyone. I'm pretty new here, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm a Cisco guy, but am currently a Data Security Analyst at a "global top 30" bank here in B'ham Alabama. I have been with Android since I traded in my iPhone 3GS for the Moto Droid II back in 2010, and LOVE IT!!! I had an iPhone 4S for a while after I lost my Verizon GNex, and that simply solidified my allegiance to Android. I am currently using the Verizon GSIII (white), running on my self-compiled version of CM10.1 from source, which I have dubbed Firecracker_AA. Firecracker after my gf, yeah yeah I know.... and AA being the build number. Nomenclature as follows: AB, AC, AD, etc being patches/updates, and BA, CA, DA, etc being full builds. I have not posted it anywhere, yet, as I have not finished customizing the original build to my liking. I build on Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my desktop. I've been using Ubuntu since 2006, and absolutely love it!! I definitely recommend trying it, if you're the least bit interested. I am NOT asking, but I was just kind of hoping that a few friendly, experienced dev's out there would through me some helpful do's and don'ts. Just some of the kick-in-the-teeth ones that will save me hours of pain and a few hairs on my head... lol.
If you compile a ROM I would love to test it.

What's up with digging through all these old threads? You must really wanna test something. Haha

Well I'm new to the root scene. After I rooted I lurked for a long time. I would hate to see a young Dev not make a ROM due to lack of testers. Also since I am not the least bit knowledgeable in making a ROM I feel that testing would be a great way to contribute.

if you build a rom make sure u get help from cm or something similar

Anyone think heartbleed is the reason for 4.4.3 delay?

This update is becoming like the Sasquatch. Plenty of rumors, but nothing for months. Just around the time the update was first rumored, heartbleed was found, and this update has gone past all rumored dates which is rare. What do you think?

Nope. It's easy enough for them to fix.
4.4.2 was not affected by heartbleed. And Sprint announced the release date of 4.4.3 after heartbleed was announced publicly. So, no, I don't think it has anything to do with it. For all we know, 4.4.3 is right on schedule.

just like every other update. and it going past all rumored dates.. again, just like every other update. rumors are rumors, nothing else. they arent based on anything factual, just what people THINK will happen. only google knows when the update will come, no one else.

"Android
All versions of Android are immune to CVE-2014-0160 (with the limited exception of Android 4.1.1; patching information for Android 4.1.1 is being distributed to Android partners)."
android is, linux at it's *heart* afterall, lol
I dont think we will see 4.4.3 soon...i think they release it close to their I/O and then wait for 4.5/5.0 version!!!
lol.. that's my prediction also..
way too much time has passed for a measly 4.4.3 bump, to think or expect that this far in the timeline, is sleeping on google's development team;
i think their working in over drive, to bring a 4.5 to fruition for the nexus 5, not to supersede a 5.0 i/o, & nexus 6,
THEN bring the 5.0 update to the nexus 5 afterwards..
