Does anyone have a script or any solution to do this? I have a 32GB class 10 Samsung microsd card and would love to use it for my main SD card.
Moderator: If this is in the wrong place please move it. Thanks!
Since this is a question and not Development, I moved this to General.
Does anyone know of a way to do this
being trying this once and this might be the only way...

So my question (since it kinda pertains to this) I could technically move the Google Music Folder to the Sd Card instead of having my google music take up my internal storage? Or am I looking at that program wrong...
Thank you so much edan1979 for your suggestion. I love the Overcome guys so much but I meant something like this in the Razr forum

I'd like something like that too, particularly if it was just a switch to flip. I don't feel comfortable tinkering around with programming if I don't have to.

Hey, Im stuck! One of the first steps to jailbreaking the G1 is to change the SD card's format. So first mount the phone via usb to the computer. did that. right click the removable disc and go down, click Format, change to FAT32.
Everytime I click Format tho, my phone somehow dismounts my connection to the computer! Everytime! I dont know what to do or why its doing this. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Why did you post this here? Should have posted here:

You'll get a much faster response considering this is the G1 forum.
And for future reference: We don't "jail break" G1's. That's for the lesser apple folk. We Root G1's.
lol im sorry about that, but thank you for the link! and the correction on the lingo here. peace.
Specifically for an EVO is my main interest, but if it is possible at all with a droid phone I'd like to see info on that.
I was thinking about getting another SD card and just keep movies on one, and TV series on another or something like that but instead I just thought... I wonder if I could just some plug an external HD into this phone some how and watch the stuff off that.
With the location of the SD card on this phone I don't really look forward to taking the back off, and battery, and then the card itself if a little tricky to get out.
Any ideas on this? With the sales on 1-2 TB HDs that are going on occasionally it would be pretty awesome to get this kind of set up.
I did find an archive post which I can not link that seemed to be on the right track but is for WM devices.
Did search for external hd, external hard drive, hard drive and a few others and couldn't find an existing thread on this. If this is the wrong forum for this kind of post just people me in the right direction
Thanks
Someone enabled USB Host Mode for Nexus One so in Future its Possible for us Desire Owners too, but for other phones i dont know.
I found two articles showing it to be possible, or that is what it seems to be saying it is possible... I just can't really follow the technical jargon
I would link them but I can't, but you can just google "enable host mode EVO" but since most of the stuff I read is from Feb, I imagine somewhere someone hit a wall on this idea.
Just rooted my captivate. Was about to install a rom(installed rom manager via market) and forgot I haven't purchased an SD card since it didn't come with one for some reason
Can I not treat my 16gb internal storage as my 'sd card'? ie. put my roms on it etc or do I HAVE to have an SD card?
Your thread caught my eye as I have been completing my daily ritual of skimming through the days XDA threads and I thought I would respond. First off congrats on the phone and congrats on rooting. Just a little advice you really should do some research and just when you think you are ready do a little more. I say this in the nicest way I know how and please don't take it the wrong way I am just trying to save you a lot of heartache if something happens to your new phone my friend. There are a lot of things that can go wrong when you get into the rooting world as you have root to every thing on your phone. I have no idea what you have read or done, but currently there are a hundreds of roms out there, but there are none currently for the Captivate (unless you count the JM series for the i9000). That is the reason that this thread caught my eye as it kind of sounds like you are about to flash just any ROM. I may be way off of third base and if I am please forgive me. Like I said before I am just trying to save you a lot of heartache. ROMs have to made unique for every platform. For example, Nexus One users can only use ROMs that are made for their phones. There is a lot of misconception out there right now as tech blogs and places make it seem that every phone out there can run Sense or flash Froyo. This is not always the case. Those ROMs have been created by awesome developers that have taken the time to port those features over to their respected devices. So like I said just do yourself a favor and do some research. I will be checking back on this thread or you can PM me anytime with questions I will be more than happy to try and answer questions you may have as I was also once in your shoes. Let me know if you want some help finding some threads that explain things a little better as I have a bunch bookmarked. I have spent probably around 100 hours getting to know Android and how the mod community works, and the "Search" field is honestly your best friend so use it.

Holy **** you're a nice guy.
Oh yeah one more thing I should at least answer your question for you, right lol. Samsung graciously gave us 16gb of internal memory. 2 gb of that is partitioned for apps and the other is used for anything else like music, videos, and whatever else you want to load on your phone. You also have an SD slot that will fit up to 32 gb (I have not tested the 32gb card only the 16gb on the Captivate so if you plan on the 32 do some research to make sure as I read somewhere that Eclair 2.1 phones have had problems recognizing 32 cards). The 16gb is currently more than any Android phone has built in so theoretically we can store 48gb on the phone (again, with 32gb card if indeed that does work with our phones I did read that it can from the official specs). Have fun man this is a great phone and Android is the best platform around.

I try as I used to be in the same situation. You never know who you help out this could be the next Cyanogen or Paul O'Brien lol.
You can, to a certain extent, use your built-in 16GB of storage as an SD card. That extent, however, in all likelihood does not include usig it for upgrading ROMs. Practically every guide I've read so far warns that the internal memory will be erased, and that could be bad if a ROM upgrade program erases itself before the upgrade is complete. Considering that a 16GB MicroSD card can be had for $50 pretty easily, and smaller ones even cheaper, it would make sens to me to just get the damn card and not risk bricking your phone. Also, I think angermeans' caution is well advised, unless this is not your only phone, or your only Captivate, and you like tinkering with phones for fun.

I also read that same thing and I should of added that info. The way that Samsung built this phone is still done in a way different way that all other Android phones before it. I am still wondering why the leading company in flash memory decided to go with an internal SD card for memory. I hope I am wrong about this little bit of info, but from what I have read that is exactly what they have done.
thanks for the replies. i learned last year how to root my g1, install recoveries, roms, etc. even learned how to turn my sd card into ext2,3,4 partition, etc.
it's just been a while and i just assumed people busted ass to get some polished roms out for the galaxy s phones. i really appreciate your post and will just give the community some more time before i jump the gun again.
i was hoping to flash froyo on it
and i don't mind getting an sd card, just didn't want to run into town yesterday afternoon just for the memory card.
thanks guys!
This is everything on the SD Card - Stock. May help people who have reset their phone and have wiped the data. Includes all the pictures, ringtones etc..

Kind of worthless since Android makes all of these folders itself. The only thing with such a very little bit a worth in that zip is the PDFs, which are still useless. The only thing on there is a couple sample songs...
And wallpapers, ringtones etc.. but hey, no ones forcing you to download it.

Wow thanks for shooting down someone who is just trying to help.
Thanks for the post and don't let people discourage you from sharing, it's the WHOLE purpose of this forum, to share.
Besides, it's not like you jumped in the dev section and posted a question on how to customize your lockscreen. Right section, and probably useful to some people.
ain't no porn on here...i downloaded it just to get porn.

There are some software programs that retrieve data from wiped/formatted data cards. Not a hundred percent sure when formatted. I have seen some people post good results with them.
A little late--but always have a fairly recent backup of card--

Agree, XDA should have a No Thanks button for comments like that.
So, after reading through all the issues some of us have had on these cards..... I was feeling pretty darn good about myself, as I had none.... Well, I have since swapped to a new phone. I now have 2 micro sd cards that can not be reformatted in anyway shape or form.... I have tried (I think), just about all tricks and software. The big question that I'm unsure if anyone has asked is, does anyone think these can be locked by the Kitkat upgrade some of us did? It just strikes me a little odd that, nothing I do will allow me to clean these cards. I have a new card in, and I'm able to read and write like normal. But I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Thanks for any insight
I also asked this in the General section, and got no replies. If a mod would please delete that, or let me know if I can? Thank you.
